Enhancing Brand Safety: X Unveils Creator Targeting Feature for Advertisers

0

Elon Musk’s X platform has introduced a new feature called Creator Targeting, allowing advertisers to choose specific content creators for their ads. This move aims to prevent ads from appearing next to controversial or offensive content, providing advertisers with greater control over their ad placements.

The Creator Targeting program enables advertisers to use X Ads Manager to run ads against the content of their chosen creators. This development follows past instances where brands pulled their ads from X due to concerns about ad placement next to controversial content.

X also plans to add the ability to serve ads only on individual creators’ profiles, further enhancing brand safety. Since launching the ad revenue sharing program last year, over 80,000 creators have joined X to monetize their content.

Google is gearing up for substantial updates to its artificial intelligence (AI) models, with reports suggesting a name change from Bard to Gemini. A leaked change-log by Android app developer Dylan Roussel reveals this shift, indicating that Gemini is positioned as Google’s response to compete with OpenAI’s GPT-4.

The change-log states, “Bard is now Gemini. Gemini is the best way to get direct access to Google AI. All the collaborative capabilities you know and love are still here, and will keep getting better in the Gemini era.”

While an official statement from Google is yet to be made regarding the rebranding of Bard to Gemini, the document mentions an evolution in UI to reduce visual distractions, enhance legibility, and simplify navigation.

Notably, Gemini will introduce voice chat, along with a new “Ultra 1.0” model accompanied by “Gemini Advanced,” a premium plan offering features similar to ChatGPT Plus, including file uploading capabilities.

“Gemini Advanced gives you access to our most capable AI model, Ultra 1.0. With our Ultra 1.0 model, Gemini Advanced is far more capable at highly complex tasks like coding, logical reasoning, following nuanced instructions, and creative collaboration,” as per the document.

Gemini Advanced, a paid plan, is set to expand with new exclusive features, such as enhanced multi-modal capabilities, improved coding features, and the ability to upload and deeply analyze files, documents, data, and more.

This paid plan, available in over 150 countries and territories, is slated for further expansion in the coming months. The Gemini app, initially launching in English, will roll out soon.

In a move to extend its reach, Google has made Gemini Pro, initially introduced into its AI chatbot Bard in English last December, accessible in more than 230 countries and territories across 40 languages, including nine Indian languages—Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, and Urdu.

Instagram Threads Surpasses Launch Peak, Reaches 130 Million Users

Instagram Threads Makes Surprising Comeback

After a promising launch that saw 100 million users register within the first five days, Instagram Threads app faced a decline in interest. However, it seems the platform is experiencing a resurgence. During Meta’s recent earnings call, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Threads now boasts 130 million monthly active users, marking a 30 million increase from the previous quarter and even surpassing its initial launch peak.

Zuckerberg expressed optimism about the app’s trajectory, calling it a “major success” and highlighting its steady growth. This news comes alongside another positive indicator for Meta: the company’s family of apps, including Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp, saw a daily user base of 3.19 billion in the fourth quarter, up from 3.14 billion previously. The monthly active user count for the entire family of apps also experienced growth, reaching 3.98 billion, marking a 6% increase year-over-year.

Financially, Meta reported strong results for Q4, with $40.1 billion in revenue and $14.02 billion in net income. However, the company did see a slight decrease in headcount compared to the previous year, with 67,317 employees as of December 31, 2023.

Meta’s commitment to advancing AI and the metaverse appears to be yielding positive results, as both Zuckerberg’s remarks and the financial figures indicate continued growth and progress. While it remains to be seen whether Threads can maintain its current momentum and become a truly successful platform, its recent performance is undoubtedly encouraging for the company.

X Platform Fixes Bug: Incorrect ‘Sensitive Media’ Labels Resolved

0

Elon Musk’s platform, X, announced on Monday that they fixed a mistake that caused many posts to be wrongly labeled as ‘Sensitive Media.’ The company revealed that a bug in their system led to the incorrect labeling of several genuine accounts. They assured users that the issue has been resolved, and they are working to remove the labels from affected posts.

Musk also mentioned that a spam/scam bot on X mistakenly flagged many legitimate accounts, and the company is actively addressing this issue.

In response to user feedback, one follower suggested Musk address the problem of porn bots on the platform. The follower proposed a system where users can choose whether to allow or disallow flagged accounts from following, reposting, or commenting on posts.

Additionally, users pointed out concerns with the Community Notes feature, urging the company to fix that as well.

Last October, Elon Musk announced measures to combat bots on X by introducing a $1 per year fee for new users to post on the platform. While reading posts remains free, this small fee is intended to deter bots and make it more challenging for them to manipulate the platform. The program is currently being tested in New Zealand and the Philippines before a global launch.

Bengaluru Welcomes Apple: New Office in India

0

On Wednesday, Apple revealed its plans to grow its presence in India by opening a new office in the center of Bengaluru, solidifying its position in the country by increasing local manufacturing.

Situated at Minsk Square, a key location in the city, the new office can accommodate up to 1,200 employees. With 15 floors, the office includes dedicated lab space, areas for collaboration and wellness, and Caffe Macs.

“Bengaluru is already home to so many of our talented teams, including software engineering and hardware technologies, operations, customer support, and more,” an Apple spokesperson told IANS.

“Like everything we do at Apple, this workspace is created to foster innovation, creativity, and connection. It’s an amazing space for our teams to collaborate,” the company spokesperson added. The interiors feature locally-sourced materials like stone, wood, and fabric in the walls and flooring, and the office is filled with native plants.

The new office follows best practices in energy conservation, running on 100 per cent renewable energy, and aims to achieve a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum rating — the highest level of LEED certification.

Apple has been carbon neutral for its corporate operations since 2020, and has run all Apple facilities using 100 percent renewable energy since 2018.

The office is the latest addition to the company’s corporate office footprint in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Gurugram, marking another important milestone in Apple’s more than 25-year history in the country.

Apple has nearly 3,000 employees in India and collaborates with Indian suppliers supporting hundreds of thousands of jobs across the country.

The company works with partners advancing critical work to protect the environment and expand access to education and employment, including Frank Water, which helps empower communities to protect their own watersheds on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

Apple’s teams in Bengaluru work across a wide range of Apple’s business — from software, hardware, services, IS&T, operations, customer support, and others. As India focuses on local manufacturing, Apple assembled iPhones worth more than Rs 1 lakh crore in India in 2023, according to industry data.

However, industry sources suggest the actual market value of the iPhones manufactured/assembled in India could be much higher, depending on taxes in other countries.
