These ‘honey bees’ prevent hundreds of elephants from dying!

From long ages, honey bees and elephants have been against each other. Nature itself has carved the relation between these two species that way. Most often, elephants run away the moment they hear the buzzing sound coming from a swarm of the honey bee. The mighty elephants are afraid about the honey bees going inside their sensitive trunk and giving them immense pain. So they often are away from these tiny little, but stingy dangerous bees.

But now, the Indian Railways officials have made great strides in innovation. They have once again proved how can we learn from our mother nature. Usually, elephants die while crossing the railway’s tracks. This is most common in the north-eastern part of India, where most of the railway network is through the forests. After carrying out various studies to limit elephant passing’s on the railway tracks, the railway officials along with a group of engineers and scientists came up with a unique solution. They developed a ‘sound generating machine’ that exactly produces the frequencies of a ‘honey bee buzz’.

This equipment is capable of generating the ‘buzz’ sound frequencies up to 600 meters from its installation point. After testing this for a couple of months, the officials found that no elephant deaths have been reported while crossing the railway tracks. This equipment costs Rs. 2000, and is able to save hundreds of elephants annually. Thanks to the ‘Honey Bees’!
