Toxic OTT Deal: Yash’s Film Faces Fresh Setback Amid Reported ₹30 Crore Offer

Date:

Yash’s highly anticipated gangster action drama Toxic is reportedly facing challenges in securing a lucrative digital streaming deal following its theatrical release. According to industry buzz, several major OTT platforms had previously offered around ₹150 crore for the film’s digital rights, but the deal did not materialize as the makers reportedly expected a higher valuation.

The film subsequently arrived in theatres without a confirmed OTT agreement. However, reports suggest that the movie received a disappointing response from audiences, affecting its box-office prospects and reportedly prompting streaming platforms to reconsider their offers.

Amid these developments, ZEE5 is said to have offered approximately ₹30 crore for the digital rights, a significant reduction compared with the earlier reported offers. The latest buzz also claims that the platform has proposed a payment structure in which only half the amount would be paid upfront, with the remaining portion linked to a pay-per-view arrangement.

If these reports are accurate, the proposed deal could pose a financial challenge for the team, particularly given the film’s reportedly substantial production budget. The difference between the initial reported offers and the latest figure highlights the potential risks associated with delaying digital-rights negotiations until after a film’s theatrical performance becomes clear.

For big-budget productions, OTT agreements can play an important role in recovering production costs and managing financial risks. Securing a deal before release may provide greater certainty, while waiting for theatrical results can leave the final valuation dependent on audience reception and market demand.

However, neither the reported ₹30 crore offer nor the alleged payment conditions should be considered confirmed without an official statement from the makers or ZEE5.

The focus now remains on the film’s digital release prospects and whether the producers can secure terms that align with their financial expectations.
