The Gujarati devotional drama ‘Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate’ became a sensational box-office success last year. Despite opening on a modest note and featuring no major stars, the film went on to become the highest-grossing Gujarati film ever, crossing the Rs. 100 crore mark on a limited budget.
Given its remarkable success, reports of a Telugu remake have been doing the rounds for some time. While recent speculation suggested that Ram Charan could portray Lord Krishna in the Telugu adaptation, a latest report from Bollywood Hungama claims that Vijay Deverakonda has actually secured the coveted role.
According to the report, the Telugu remake is currently in development, with Ram Charan not being part of the project. Vijay Deverakonda is said to be playing Lord Krishna, while reputed producer Dil Raju has reportedly acquired the Telugu remake rights. Optimystix’s Vipul D. Shah is said to have played a role in finalising the deal.
The original film follows an auto-rickshaw driver who attempts to steal from an isolated mansion but unexpectedly becomes trapped inside. As he desperately searches for a way out, he encounters a mysterious stranger who helps him escape. The stranger is eventually revealed to be none other than Lord Krishna.
Directed by Ankit Sakhiya, the Gujarati original stars Karan Joshi in the lead role, with Shruhad Goswami portraying Lord Krishna.
If the latest report turns out to be true, Vijay Deverakonda stepping into the role of Lord Krishna could make the Telugu remake one of the more intriguing projects to watch out for.
