Vijay Mallya says, Rats, Cockroaches & Snakes in Indian Jails. The lawyer who argued for Vijay Mallya in the extradition case had hired the UK- based prison service expert to complain about Indian Jails are overcrowded and known for its poor hygiene.
Vijay Mallya failed to pay over Rs. 9000 crores in loans from Indian banks. The government of India assured a fair trial and better treatment for the liquor baron in Indian Jail.
While, Mallya’s Counsel, Clare Montgomery ousted Prison Service Expert Dr. Alan Mitchell to the court for making him present the situation of Barrack 12 of Mumbai Central Prison on Arthur Road where Mallya is supposed to stay after his extradition to India. A dispute has been made that jails in India will have rats, snakes, and cockroaches. Mitchell even told about an occurrence where Jail Superintendent had beaten up Prisoner with a lathe (police baton) without any valid reason.
The trail is going to return on January 10th, 2018 as both defense and prosecution had finished their arguments on Thursday. It is understood the Chief Magistrate Arbuthnot will pass the ruling within a timeframe. Home Secretary of UK will have to approve Mallya’s extradition order within 2 months if the Judge favors Indian Government. Both Indian Government and Indian will have a chance to appeal to the higher courts in the UK if the verdict in lower court is against them.
