The Sri Lanka bowlers were once again put to test on the first day of the 3rd Test. After winning the toss, Indian skipper Virat Kohli chose to bat. Sri Lanka started the day decently well after breaking Vijay – Dhawan partnership at the last ball of the 10th over. Sri Lanka made second-strike after Gamage dismissed Mr. Dependable Pujara for 23.
From that point, Virat Kohli and Murali Vijay completely took the match away from the Sri Lanka. They both added a283-run partnership for the 3rd wicket. Murali Vijay was stumped-out just with 4.1 over to the close of the day. Murali Vijay scored his second consecutive century in the series. He scored 155 (of 267 balls) before getting stumped in the bowling of Sandakan.
Ajinka Rahane was also stumped in the bowling of Sandakan. The dismissals of Vijay and Rahane seemed very similar after they both failed to get back into the crease.
Virat Kohli has continued his sublime form by scoring his 20th test century. The day ended with Virat Kohli batting on 156, and Rohit Sharma on 6.
Sandakan was the pick of the bowlers with the figures 2/110 in 23 overs.
