Women’s T20 World Cup 2023
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023, held in South Africa, became the most-watched women’s event to date, with global viewing hours of 192 million, an increase of 44% from the 2020 T20 World Cup in Australia.
The event concluded with Australia defeating South Africa in the final by 19 runs, with Beth Mooney’s match-winning 74 leading them to a three-peat for the second time in the competition’s history.
The ICC also stated that the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 left a long-term legacy for women’s cricket in South Africa, as well as remarkable numbers of spectators from India.
It’s great to see the growing interest and engagement in women’s cricket around the world. The ICC’s efforts to promote and showcase women’s cricket seem to be paying off, as evidenced by the significant increase in viewership for the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2023 compared to previous editions.
It’s particularly encouraging to see the demand for women’s cricket in India, which has traditionally been a cricket-crazy nation focused mainly on men’s cricket. This bodes well for the future of women’s cricket globally, and hopefully, we’ll see even more growth and progress in the years to come.
