Rajasthan Royals put up a formidable total of 202/5 against Chennai Super Kings in Match No. 37 of IPL 2023 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Thursday, thanks to opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s blistering knock of 77 off 43. Along with Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel (34 off 15), Jos Buttler (27 off 21), and Devdutt Padikkal (24 off 12) also contributed to the Royals’ mammoth score on a batting-friendly pitch.
After winning the toss, Rajasthan’s openers Jaiswal and Buttler got off to a flying start, scoring 60/0 in the Power-play. Jaiswal was particularly aggressive, hitting Akash Singh for three boundaries in the very first over, while Buttler targeted Tushar Deshpande and got two boundaries in an over.
Jaiswal continued to attack, hammering Akash for 18 runs in the pacer’s next over. However, CSK skipper Dhoni brought in spinner Maheesh Theekshana, who did well to concede just three runs. While this, after 2 overs bowled with Deshpande and Royals got 19 runs from Theekshana
Even after the Power-play, Jaiswal maintained his attacking approach and reached his half-century in just 26 balls. However, Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Buttler in the 8th over to give CSK some respite.
With Jaiswal and skipper Sanju Samson at the crease, it looked like Rajasthan was heading toward a massive score. However, Tushar Deshpande removed both set batsmen in the same over to bring CSK back into the game. Rajasthan was left reeling at 132-3 after 13.5 overs.
Despite the setback, Rajasthan’s finishers, Dhruv Jurel, and Devdutt Padikkal, stepped up and scored 56 runs in the last four overs. when a session of superb cameo, Jurel well down game with shots as well as Padikkal played well.
Rajasthan eventually posted a record-high total of 202/5 in 20 overs at this ground in IPL history.
