Actress Krishna Kumari Passes Away at 85

The whole of Tollywood is mourning as Yesteryear actress Krishna Kumari passes away at 85. She breathes her last in Apollo Hospital, Bengaluru today morning. Krishna Kumari was one of the leading actress’ of her time. Despite, the presence of Legendary actress and her contemporary Savithri, Krishna Kumari still made her presence felt on the silver screen. Born in a traditional Telugu Brahmin family in West Bengal, Krishna Kumari made her debut with the film ‘Navvithe Navarathnaalu’ in 1951.

She is a famous for her acting, coupled with her charm and beauty. Though the actress starred in both Telugu and Tamil films initially, she later devoted herself mostly to Telugu films. Krishna Kumari made her Tamil debut with ‘Thirumbi Paari’ (1953). She rose to fame in a short span with all-time classics like Bharya Bharthalu (1961), Vaagdaanam (1961), Kulagothralu (1962) and Gudi Gantalu (1964). She is often seen acting alongside ANR (Akkineni Nageswara Rao), NTR (Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao) and Lakshmi Kantha Rao.

Krishna Kumari essayed many social roles along with historical and mythological characters. She also acted briefly in Hindi films but opted to be a part of Telugu film industry, more than anything else.

The actress has been receiving treatment for bone-marrow cancer since May 2017 in the Apollo Hospitals, Bengaluru. She is the younger sister of another famous Sowcar Janaki.
