Rajya Sabha MP and Bharat Ratna holder and the legendary Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar rose to speak in the House after it re-convened at 2 pm, Congress members once again created a ruckus in the house disrupting the smooth functioning, which ultimately led to an adjournment for the day.
The proceedings were disrupted by the opposition for the fifth consecutive day, where they have been demanding PM Narendra Modi clarify his stance on the remarks he made against the former PM Manmohan Singh during the Gujarat Poll campaign.
Former Cricketer had moved a short discussion motion about the future of sports in the country and the right to play. But his maiden speech in the House was, marred by the Congress members stalling the session.
Sachin remained standing for about ten minutes, tight-lipped as opposition members raised slogans ignoring Chairman Venkaiah Naidu’s calls to come to order. While Naidu reminded the parliamentarians that the nation is watching and asked them to let Sachin speak. He even went on saying that we are discussing sports and don’t have the sporting spirit.
The upper house was adjourned until 11 am, Friday.
Celebrities like Jaya Bachchan questioned, is this the way the upper house functions and are only politicians allowed to speak? She also said it was a matter of shame that Sachin was not allowed to speak.
