First Female President
Halimah Yacob is the first female president in Singapore. She elected unanimously and from Muslim Malay minority. Halimah is a former speaker of parliament. In Singapore, which has a combination of different cultures. Now this time the presidential elections Malay community reserves. Five are nominating for this elections. The election commission rejected the nominees because two of them belong to Malai community and other two are not qualified.
Halimah said in her speech ‘I got this presidency by the reservation selection but I’m not reserved president I’m peoples president’. And some are criticizing Halimah elections. Oppositions are questioning, without holding elections the most crucial president position how to give Halima. And they blaming without following the rules how they appointed as a president. In Singapore, People’s Action Party has been in power for decades. This time they allocated and hand over all the assignments from various communities to the Malay community. In social media, some netizens are criticizing Singapore president power without elections.
