Former US President Barack Obama is in New Delhi for the HT Leadership Summit. He made a comment on India’s Muslim population and asking India to cherish and nurture its Muslims. He reinstated the fact that Indian Muslims are integrated part of the nation as he addressed the media event here on Friday.

Mr. Obama said he always had emphasized about the need for religious tolerance and the right to practice one’s own faith during closed-door talks with Prime Minister Modi during his 2015 trip to India, eight months after Modi government came to power in May 2014.

This is the first time the two leaders met after Obama left the White House in January 2017. He was quoted by websites as saying, “I like Modi, and I think he has a vision for the nation, he is making every effort to modernize some elements of the bureaucracy”. But I was also great friends with Dr. Manmohan Singh he concluded.

Obama is the 44th President and he held the office from January 20, 2009, until January 20, 2017. He made strong comments in favor of diversity in New Delhi, at a public interaction against the backdrop of a debate over religious conversions on the last day of his January 2015 visit.
