Galaxy Note 10 has added an interesting link” feature and thus becomes a popular smartphone and does sell well. Samsung and Microsoft have been contributing well.
If a person has been watching Samsung’s Unpacked event last week, the person may have got surprised to see Microsoft being a big focus. CEO Satya Nadella had spoken on the occasion and Samsung highlighted a few Microsoft integrations for the Galaxy Note 10. One of those features highlighted is a “Link to Windows” Quick Settings shortcut. It is already operational on older Samsung phones too.

The “Link to Windows” tile works in conjunction with the Microsoft Your Phone app. Tapping the shortcut quickly does activate a connection to one’s PC. Users on Reddit did discover that single APK from the Galaxy Note 10 can indeed bring the feature to older Samsung phones. They need to side-load the APK.

Up-till now the APK has been working for users with the Galaxy S10 series, Galaxy Note 9, and others. One’s Samsung phone will indeed need to be running One UI (Android Pie). A person will also require the Your Phone app from the Play Store. It is only a matter of side-loading the “Link to Windows service” APK, going into the Quick Settings edit menu, and dragging the “Link to Windows” tile wherever one wants. Samsung and Microsoft have announced an expansion of their strategic partnership at the Unpacked event last week. As part of the deal, Samsung will be preloading or continue to preload much depending on the market scene some of the Microsoft apps on its Galaxy devices. Beginning with the Galaxy Note 10, the list of preloaded apps will include Link to Windows as well, which happens to be Microsoft’s Your Phone Companion app under a different name.

From what we have seen so far, the Link to Windows feature on the Galaxy Note 10 is a glorified shortcut that does hide the Your Phone app icon and does offer a toggle in the Quick Settings panel to connect to one’s PC instantly. Currently, the app does not seem to offer any extra features on the Note 10, but that could change in the future on account of the partnership between Samsung and Microsoft.

The Microsoft Your Phone app has indeed been around for some time but not offered some essential functionality. However, the app was rather updated in July to add the ability for connected Android users to see their texts, notifications and social media alerts on the PC.
