Maharashtra most corrupted and Delhi most unsafe – Centre

The National Crime Records Bureau’s data showed that the state of Maharashtra is the most corrupted, while the National Capital Delhi is ‘most unsafe’. According to the data, 1,016 cases of corruption have been registered in Maharashtra for the year 2016, while Delhi accounted for more than 40% of rapes and 33% of crimes against women that took place in 19 Indian cities in the year 2016.

The only positive thing in the data published by NCRB is that the number of cases pertaining to corruption has come down in the past two years in Maharashtra. 1,316 and 1,279 cases of corruption were registered in 2014 and 2015 respectively in Maharashtra.

Following Delhi, Bangalore was placed second in the total number of crimes, while Mumbai with 39,617 cases against crime was in the third place. The data showed that the number of reported crimes dropped from 42,940 cases in 2015 to 39,617 cases in Mumbai.

Delhi also topped the list for attacks against the foreigners. Maharashtra came second in this list with 38 cases of ‘attacks against foreigners’.

In the list of most number of cases affecting the human body, Uttar Pradesh topped the list, with Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra in 2nd and 3rd places.
