Meera Desothale: I had inhibitions entering the entertainment industry

Television actress Meera Deosthale reveals she was skeptical when she came to Mumbai for the first time in June 2014, but the support of her mother helped her realize her dream.

The actress who hails from Vadodara tells IANS: “I am from a small town and I had a lot of inhibitions about Mumbai and the entertainment industry. But since the time I came here, I had the support of my mom, who has been living with me. She is always there and her guidance has been incredible.”

Recalling her initial days, she says: “I remember she would accompany me when I would go for three to four auditions in a day and we would only return home at night.”

Things got easier for her when she bagged the role of Chakor in “Udaan” and later made a mark in the title role of “Vidya”.

“Udaan was a great show and it made me who I am. I remember my mom would often get calls after my episodes in Udaan. My parents were also apprehensive about me being part of the industry, but seeing me in Udaan actually helped them understand my career choice,” the actress says.

Bigg Boss 14: Salman Khan loses his cool on Rakhi’s antics

Bigg Boss host Salman Khan is irked with the antics of Rakhi Sawant in the ongoing season 14 of the show and has asked her to leave the show if she cannot stay within limits.
In the latest promo of the upcoming Weekend Ka Vaar episode, Salman is seen lashing out at Rakhi for losing control of her language and saying mean things to contestants. He is so angry that he simply refuses to even listen to Rakhi’s justifications.

The latest promo shows Salman scolding the housemates for their behavior. In the clip, he also asks Rakhi to go into the theatre so that he could talk to her.

During their conversation, Salman tells Rakhi that he has always supported her, and then goes on to criticize her for crossing her line in the name of providing entertainment. He declares the show doesn’t need the type of entertainment she is engaging in.

“Logo pe lanchan lagati ho, unke character pe sawal uthati ho (You accuse people, question their characters),” Salman says.

Rakhi starts to explain herself, saying: “Bolna sahi nahi hai sir, but (It is wrong to state, but)…”

Salman stops her midway, and angrily continues: “Maine humesha support kiya, agar ye entertainment hai toh humko entertainment nahi chahiye. Agar aap apne aapko line cross karne se nahi rok sakti toh aap is waqt ye show chor kar jaa sakti hain. Please darwaza khol dijiye (I have always supported you. If this is entertainment, we do not need it. If you cannot stop yourself from crossing the line, you may simply walk out of the house right now),” he said.

In the promo, the superstar host is seen getting angry at others in the house, too, slamming them for belittling someone’s emotion and outburst as a way to create “content” and seek “footage”.

He says: “Ye kyu sunayi deta hai is season ke andar ki content ke liye kar rahe ho. Kya mai ye content ke liye kar raha hu? Bhad me gaya content! Jo harkatein ho rahi hai ghar ke andar, aap log bol rahe hain aur wahi humlog dikha rahe hain (why do we hear that you are doing this for content? Am I doing this for content? Let content go to hell. We show what you guys do and say in the house).”

Actress Taapsee Pannu is not letting her fight with actress Kangana Ranaut come in the way of her work and says she is focusing on the shoot of her upcoming film, Looop Lapeta, amid all the chaos. On Friday, Taapsee used Instagram to share her state of mind along with a picture where she looks at a scene being shot.

“When you are in between 2 perspectives, in middle of wired up chaos and what you do in the frame is going to matter…….. chin up, feet up and just focus! Coz not everybody gets this privilege ….(Also coz u r getting clicked by the lens man doubling up as producer @atulkasbekar) #LooopLapeta #SetDiaries #SaviTheChiller,” she captioned the image.

Looop Lapeta is a Hindi adaptation of the 1998 German film Run Lola Run, starring Franka Potente and directed by Tom Tykwer. Bollywood has already adapted the concept in 2003, by way of late Anant Balani’s Ek Din 24 Ghante, starring Nandita Das and Rahul Bose.

Looop Lapeta is directed by Aakash Bhatia and slated to release later this year.

On Thursday, Kangana had slammed Taapsee for supporting farmers.

Taapsee had tweeted: “If one tweet rattles your unity, one joke rattles your faith or one show rattles your religious belief then it’s you who has to work on strengthening your value system not become ‘propaganda teacher’ for others.”

Kangana commented on Taapsee’s tweet hurling adjectives like “B-grade person”, “dumbo” and “freeloader”.

Kangana commented in Hindi: “Teri maa ko main gali doon it will rattle your belief dumbo? National platforms pe uska apman karu… I know you will strengthen your love not do anything tabhi toh tere jaise dusaron ki rotiyon pe palne wale paltu hote hain…kabhi kuch aur nahin ban pate, chup kar aab. Namak Issk Ka lead actress Shruti Sharma recently spent a couple of minutes inside a coffin to shoot an episode of the show, and she says it was definitely challenging.

“This is the first time that I have shot for a scene that was so spooky. Though it seems quite easy, it was definitely challenging for me to stay in the coffin for a couple of minutes, but I am glad that it all went well,” said Shruti, who plays the role of a dancer named Chamcham in the show.

She added: “I had a memorable time shooting for it, and I am sure it is going to be a very interesting, action-packed track.”

The series is about Chamcham, a dancer, who is looked down upon by society for her means of livelihood. However, the story takes a dramatic turn after Chamcham gets married into an affluent family.

Homegrown movie and events ticketing platform BookMyShow on Friday rolled out a transaction video-on-demand (TVOD) streaming platform in India that offers users the option to rent a movie for a finite duration or buy it for unlimited access.

The move comes at a time when the Covid-19 pandemic greatly disrupted the movie viewing experience as restrictions kept theaters out of bounds for the audience for months.

With over 600 movie titles and over 72,000 hours of content, BookMyShow Stream will feature films and content from around the world along with India, the platform said.

With over 22,000 hours of content being “Exclusive” to the platform at launch, BookMyShow Stream will feature multiple marquee Premieres every Friday, it added.

“‘BookMyShow Stream’ is a natural extension of our cinemas business and respects the existing theatrical windows for content. It empowers users to pay only for the content that they watch — a prevalent trend in other global cinema markets, as yet untapped at scale in India,” Ashish Saksena, Chief Operating Officer — Cinemas, BookMyShow, said in a statement.

“With flexible purchase options and a seamless user interface, this new offering furthers BookMyShow’s journey from being a gateway to an evolved curator of tent pole content experiences.”

Starting Friday, the new service will be home to Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet”, Gal Gadot starrer “Wonder Woman 1984”, horror fantasy “The Craft: Legacy”.

Besides these, films like “Alone”, “Yes God Yes”, “The Peanut Butter Falcon”, “The Guilty”, “Les Miserables”, “Unhinged” and the acclaimed Russian Sci-fi thriller “Coma”, from premium independent studios will premiere exclusively on the platform.

The platform is designed to offer a personalized experience based on a user’s preferences, transaction,s, and behaviour on BookMyShow.

It will be available for viewing on BookMyShow’s mobile app and website as also Apple TV, Android TV, Firestick, Chromecast, and desktop browsers, the company said, adding that the platform will allow users to experience features such as downloads, offline viewing, and casting.

Ever since she entered the 14th season of Bigg Boss, Rakhi has managed to grab the audience by their eyeballs thanks to her eccentric mannerism and uncouth behavior. IANS traces a few defining traits of Rakhi the drama queen on Bigg Boss from season one when she was a housemate, to the ongoing season 14 when she is back as a challenger.

Catfight champion

In the first season, Rakhi managed to generate news with her fierce catfights with Kashmira Shah, whom she had at one point befriended in the house. They engaged in many fights and gave each other tough competition and a lot of the limelight, and, of course, quick ratings for the show.

The foulmouth

It won’t be wrong to say that Rakhi has the tendency to unleash verbal diarrhoea and she does not know when to draw the line. It is a trait she has imbibed and mastered over the years. The highlight about Rakhi, as we have seen over the years, is that she does not believe in filters when it comes to her antics. Rakhi definitely does not understand what not to do or say on national TV. She has openly spoken discussed her “botox” job during her entry, her nose implants after her fight with former contestant Jasmin Bhasin, and shared shocking revelations about her life claiming that a man had forced himself on her when she was young, in return for money. Bigg Boss had to intervene and ask her not to share such details on television. Rakhi also shared details about her marriage with someone called Ritesh, saying that her husband was already married and had a child when they got married.

The obsessive housemate

When she grabs on to something, she only leaves it after literally squeezing it dry. Rakhi is currently holding on to her “crazy love” angle with Abhinav Shukla and has crossed the line of decency several times while playing the game. From pulling Abhinav’s pant strings to calling him a pervert, Rakhi has reveled in the nasty acts to turn the focus of the cameras towards her.

The possessed entertainer

In the name of “cheap” entertainment, Rakhi can go to any extent. During the 14th season, Rakhi suddenly got an idea of playing a ghost in the house. She behaved as she got possessed by a ghost named Julie and during her act, she again crossed the line of decency and tore former contestant Rahul Mahajan’s clothes on national TV.
