Rajini’s party members are ‘free’ to join any outfit

With three of its District Secretaries and a couple of other officials joined DMK on Sunday, Rajini Makkal Mandram (RMM) on Monday said its members are free to join any political party of their choice after submitting their resignation.

In a statement issued here, RMM leader V.M. Sudhakar said those who are in RMM wanting to join a political party can do after submitting their resignation.

He also said RMM members should not forget that those persons who resign and join a political party are fans of actor Rajinikanth.

On Sunday, three District Secretaries of RMM joined DMK after the actor categorically said he will not be entering active politics.

On December 29, 2020, Rajinikanth announced his decision not to get into Tamil Nadu politics, citing the Covid-19 pandemic as it would risk his health condition.

His volte-face came a few days after he, earlier in December, sounded his poll bugle against the ruling AIADMK as well as the major opposition party DMK.

On January 10, fans of Rajinikanth held a peaceful demonstration here demanding their screen idol take a plunge into Tamil Nadu politics.

Responding to that the actor had reiterated his earlier decision not to enter politics on health grounds.

Divyanka Tripathi recalls when she chose ‘dignity’ over a TV show

Telly star Divyanka Tripathi Dahiya says years ago, she quit a TV show to avoid a traumatic experience.

Today, Divyanka is a star in the television space thanks to her work in fiction as well as reality shows such as “Banoo Main Teri Dulhann”, “Ye Hai Mohabbatein”, “Nach Baliye” and “The Voice”. But there was a time when she was desperately looking for work, and even though she got an opportunity she didn’t take it up.

Commenting on harassment at work, Divyanka told IANS: “Many men think it is a man’s world, but it is not. Women are ruling in all the ways possible. They are on par with men. But some men feel they can get a free pass. They think they can tease someone or pass lewd remarks and get away with it. It used to happen, it also happens now. It’s just that I always knew where to set a boundary. Since the time I started working, I knew what I didn’t want.”

“I knew that I wanted to do good work, but not at the cost of my dignity. In fact, I left a show. I won’t name the person, producer, or the channel. I had signed a show, and the maker made a pass at me. He was very indecent. I left the show because of that. I knew that it would be a traumatic experience for me because any daily soap continues for a certain number of months or years, and I couldn’t see myself in that kind of a situation,” she shared.

Even though she didn’t have any other work offer at that time and was “desperately” looking for work, she refused to continue working on that show.

“I was not so desperate to still continue, so I left the show. Saying no at the right time is extremely important. You deserve respect. Your position doesn’t matter. If you’ll respect yourself then others will respect you,” said Divyanka, who made her acting debut in the 2006 show “Viraasat” with a small role.

“This happened a year or two before I got ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’. At that time I was in need of work. I bagged the show, but I backed off. I was told by the makers and channel that I’ll have to do the show, but I told them that I have enough proof on my phone so, don’t push me. I was allowed to walk away. The channel didn’t go against me after this incident, after seeing the stupid conversation. They didn’t say anything because they knew I was right. One should never shy away from taking a stand,” she added.

After her debut, she played the lead role in “Banoo Main Teri Dulhann”, which ran from 2006 to 2009. Later, she appeared as a guest or contestant in several shows, including “Comedy Circus”.

Then, Divyanka took up the lead role of Dr. Ishita Bhalla in the long-running show “Yeh Hai Mohabbatein”, which aired from 2013 to 2019. She also starred in the 2019 web show “Cold Lassi Aur Chicken Masala”. She recently hosted a special series, “Crime Patrol Satark: Women Against Crime”.

In the year ahead, she looks forward to lots of work. “I want to do different kinds of roles. Doing ‘Crime Patrol’, for instance, was so refreshing. I always wanted to spread awareness about women and give a message to the entire society, not just women. I would like to do films and web series, too,” said Divyanka.

When Olivia Cooke binged on ‘Game Of Thrones’

Actress Olivia Cooke says she became obsessed with Game Of Thrones after she auditioned for a part in the upcoming prequel series of the blockbuster show.

Cooke had shared that she did not watch any episode of the hit HBO fantasy series until she landed the role of Alicent Hightower in the upcoming spin-off, House Of The Dragon.

“When I read the script, I hadn’t seen any ‘Game Of Thrones’. But then I binged it and now I’m obsessed,” Cooke said, according to a report in femalefirst.co.uk.

The actress also talked about the audition process, where she said she had to do “so many self-tapes”, and was “on hold for ages” before she was finally given the role.

She was sworn to secrecy when she was confirmed for the role before an official announcement of her casting was made in December.

“People would ask, ‘What’s up for you next?’ And I’d have to be like, ‘Nothing’,” she recalled.

The shooting for House Of The Dragon is currently paused due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Cooke said the only thing she’s done so far is attending a “preliminary” costume fitting.

“I’ve had one sort of preliminary fitting when they just draped some fabric on me but that was it,” the actress told Variety magazine.

House Of The Dragon also stars Matt Smith as Corlys Targaryen and Paddy Considine as Viserys Targaryen. The 10-episode show is expected to debut in 2022. It will tell the story of House Targaryen and is set a few hundred years before the events of Game Of Thrones.

“That whole idea of transformation is at the heart of what I’m interested in as a performer and not least through the idea of gender. It’s a very personal matter. I can categorically say that as Orlando does in the film: Yes, I’m probably a woman,” she added.

‘No Time To Die’ delayed again?

The wait for No Time To Die, which brings back Daniel Craig as the iconic spy James Bond, might get longer with the film reportedly set to be delayed again.

At the moment, the film is slated to be released on April 2, but Dutch publication BN DeStem has claimed that according to cinema owner Carlo Lambregts it will be delayed to November, reports dailymail.co.uk.

Deadline, too, reported that the promotional partners of the film have been informed that Craig’s final outing as 007, is likely to get a date change.

The publication suggested that a new release date has not been set yet. It claimed that while a specific date has yet to be decided, there is a strong possibility that the film is moved to a new date in autumn.

The film, directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, was originally scheduled for release in April 2020 but was pushed back to November due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was once again changed to April 2021.

The 25th Bond adventure will see Craig revisiting his past, bringing it to the present in order to save the future. The trailer comes with a tagline: “The mission that changes everything begins”.

The film also features Rami Malek as the new Bond villain, Safin, and brings back Lea Seydoux as Dr. Madeleine Swann, Ben Whishaw as Q, Ralph Fiennes as M, Naomie Harris as Moneypenny, and Jeffrey Wright as CIA agent Felix Leiter.

Actress Emma Roberts has shared the first photo of her baby, whom she welcomed in late 2020.

This is the first child for Roberts and her boyfriend Garrett Hedlund.

“Thank you 2020 for getting one thing right,” she wrote on Instagram, alongside a photo of herself holding her baby boy, reports people.com.

Roberts also revealed her son’s full name. “Our bright light Rhodes Robert Hedlund,” she wrote in the caption.

In the photo, Roberts is seen wearing an orange dress and matching heels and holding the infant in her arms.

During an interview with a magazine, Roberts said: “At 16, I thought, ‘By the time I’m 24, I’ll be married with kids’. And then I was 24 and I was like, ‘Remember when I said I would be married with kids by now?’ … It sounds cheesy, but the moment that I stopped thinking about it, we got pregnant.”

According to the actress, she faced issues surrounding her ability to get pregnant after learning she had undiagnosed endometriosis a few years back.

“I was told, ‘You should probably freeze your eggs or look into other options’,” she recalled a doctor telling her.

Disha Patani redefines fitness goals for fans

Bollywood actress Disha Patani redefines her fitness goals for fans in a new workout video on social media.

In the clip she has posted on Instagram, Disha is seen doing a Lat pulldown workout for her back. The actress chose a sloth emoji to caption her picture.

Disha will next be seen in “Radhe”, co-starring Salman Khan and Randeep Hooda. The film is directed by Prabhudeva.

She is also looking forward to reuniting with filmmaker Mohit Suri on the set of their next film, “Ek Villain 2”. The actress has earlier collaborated with Mohit on their 2020 film “Malang”.

Keira Knightley: Sexual objectification of women still exists

Actress Keira Knightley, whose new film Misbehaviour celebrates inclusivity, feminism, and beauty of all kinds, said sexual objectification of women still takes place.

Misbehavior tells the true story of feminists who disrupted the broadcast of the Miss World contest in 1970.

Commenting on the issue of sexism that the film delves into, Knightley said: “Sexual objectification of women still exists, and often women are still valued primarily for their looks. The only industry in the world where women are paid more than men is modeling. I think there is a conversation to be had over that.”

“Wherever your sympathies lie, I think the film will make you question your views, and that’s really interesting,” she added.

Her interest in the project grew as it told the story through various perspectives.

“What I really loved about the script is that it is told from three different points of view; it’s told from the point of view of the Women’s Libbers, it’s told from the point of view of Bob Hope – the host of that year’s Miss World – and it’s told from the point of view of the Miss World contestants,” said the actress.

Knightley also appreciated getting to know the real Sally Alexander, an activist.

“I think humor always helps to address quite serious political subjects, but you can’t really make a film about the storming of the stage at the Miss World competition without it being quite funny. When you talk to Sally about it there’s always a kind of a wry smile. They had flour bombs and water pistols, and there is something inherently funny about that,” she said.

The film also stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jessie Buckley, Keeley Hawes, Phyllis Logan, Lesley Manville, and Greg Kinnear.

The Philippa Lowthorpe directorial will be released on January 22 in India by PVR Pictures.
