Pooja Hegde: With every industry, reason of nervousness changes

Actress Pooja Hegde currently has projects announced and rolling in the Tamil, Telugu and Hindi film industries. The actress says that being part of big budget films and high expectations from fans make her nervous. However, her reasons to feel jittery change with every industry.

In Bollywood, Pooja will be seen alongside superstar Salman Khan in “Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali” and with Ranveer Singh in “Cirkus”. In Tollywood, she has “Radhe Shyam” alongside Prabhas and in Tamil, the actress will be seen with Vijay in “Beast”.

Talking to IANS about how she deals with these expectations which come with taking big leaps with her choice of films, the actress says: “Does it make me nervous? Yes. I think with every industry my reason of nervousness changes. With Telugu now, with ‘Radhe Shyam’, my role is fantastic. There is a lot of scope for me. So, with Telugu I want to know how the audience thinks I perform. So, my nervousness is that I give my heart and soul into my performance for this film.”

The actress, who made her film debut with Tamil film “Mugamoodi” (2012), eventually went on to give many blockbusters in Telugu films too. She made her Hindi debut with director Ashutosh Gowariker’s “Mohenjo Daro”.

Further elaborating on what kind of nervousness she feels with Hindi and Tamil industry, Pooja says: “With ‘Cirkus’ and ‘Kabhie Eid Kabhi Diwali’, I feel that I have so much to show to the Hindi audience of who I am and that is something, which is making me nervous. With Tamil, the nervousness if very different because it’s a new market for me and now I am going back after many years. So, the nervousness is different.”

She also feels that coming from a non-filmy background affects how she looks at every film.

“When you come from a non-filmy background, the whole thing is whatever film you have, becomes like a golden treasure. It’s like you have found treasure and you need to make the most of the role you have been given in the film and hope that it helps you in capturing people’s attention. Unfortunately, I am a classic example of an over thinker but I think nervous energy is good,” shares the actress.

From Allu Arjun, Mahesh Babu, Akshay Kumar to now Salman Khan and Vijay, Pooja has worked with the most bankable actor in the film industries across India.

Does having popular co-stars affect her craft?

“I think it would affect my craft because a lot of acting is reacting. So, when they bring in their years of experience, it kind of helps me understand my craft more, it helps me may be perform better,” she says.

“It’s also about learning other things, which are not directly related to acting like tips about the way they lead their lives. For me, it’s always about learning something new, besides acting also. So, it’s always been a mix of everything and it has made me a better actor for sure.”

Mena Suvari on ‘miraculous’ experience of becoming mother

Actress Mena Suvari, who is known for portraying the character of Heather in the “American Pie” franchise, welcomed her first born, a son named Christopher Alexander with husband Michael Hope in April. She says that becoming a mother was “wonderful and it’s everything miraculous you can think of.”

“But it’s been challenging for me too because I personally never felt like I had that type of mother figure. So I don’t know how to be that one, and I worry over it a lot. Also this is a big process for me in accepting that something so beautiful had happened for me,” Suvari said, reports people.com.

The 42-year-old actress added: “It’s like the universe’s next challenge for me. It’s now my biggest lesson because it’s interesting when you experience a lot of trauma you can become very controlling because you can establish that behaviour to feel safe. Well, having a baby, all that control just goes right out the window.”

Suvari says she is trying to connect with her newborn baby “each and every moment.”

She said: “It’s sort of like the way that my life had been going with lessons sprinkled. Now, it’s just like 24/7 lessons! Like, ‘Okay, I’m learning. I can do this. I’m good enough.’ It’s literally triggering all my stuff, but I try to use it, and I know it can make me better. I try to in each and every moment just connect with him.”

In her new book titled, “The Great Peace: A Memoir, Suvari talks about past trauma, revealing that between the ages of 12 and 20 she was the victim of repeated sexual abuse. Suvari escaped into the rave scene, clubbing and eventually hard drugs to numb the pain she shares in the memoir.

Now, Suvari said that her focus is solely on raising him.

“I look for myself in him and I just want to do him justice. Another thing that’s happened too is that I don’t have time anymore to feel bad for myself. It’s a beautiful gift, having my son, because I don’t have the time to do that anymore,” she said.

The actress said that it is not about her anymore.

She added: “I’m always looking for the ways I can grow and learn. I’m looking for the ways that I can learn through him.”

Suvari also shared that it’s not lost on her that she once thought motherhood wasn’t going to be in her future.

Shakira wants her children to have normal childhood

Singer Shakira says she is trying to give her children a normal childhood and that she avoids playing her own music.

The “Waka waka” singer has two sons, Milan, eight, and Sasha, six, with her partner and football star Gerard Pique.

“I don’t make (my kids) listen to my music. I try to avoid playing my own music in my house. I try to give them as much normalcy as I can,” Shakira told ET Canada, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

The 44-year-old singer says she cannot deny the fact that she is a “public person”.

She added: “I can’t deny they can’t escape the reality that I’m a public person, as well as their dad. But we try to provide as much normalcy as we can, and live really as very simple people.”

Shakira had recently written a powerful essay about child separation to shine a light on the children who have been separated from their parents and detained at the US border.

She wrote: “I am the daughter of a New Yorker who was born to Lebanese immigrants amidst the great economic depression of the 1930s, immigrants who, thanks to their entry into the US, were able to build a solid foundation for themselves and their family before they finally settled in Colombia, where I was born and grew up.

“Colombia is one of the most beautiful and diverse countries in the world but rife with inequality and lack of social mobility. America, in contrast, seemed to me a place that was always held up as a paragon of equal opportunity and limitless aspirations, where anyone could succeed.

“How, then, could a nation built on the shoulders of immigrants, one that purports to hold family values in such high regard, have such unimaginably cruel immigration policies?

“What rationale could justify separating children from their families, with no intention of ever reuniting them, when the US has prided itself on being a beacon of hope for those who come from places where not even basic needs or safety are a guarantee?”

Diljot Chhabra opens up on her role in upcoming show ‘Ziddi Dil’

Actress Diljot Chhabra, who will soon be seen in upcoming show, “Ziddi Dil”, says that she has tried her best to keep her character as natural and realistic as she can.

In the show Diljot plays the role of a special training officer who hails from Bundelkhand called Sanjana a.k.a. Sanju.

Talking about her character, Diljot tells IANS: “I am the only lady officer amongst all the prominent characters in the group full of confidence and determination. She is tough and always ready to get into action at any time.”.

Diljot finds the character relatable with her own personality as she says: “In my personal life there have been circumstances that made me more driven, responsible and thick skinned over time.”

The actress feels that it is up to the audience on how they are going to connect with it but she has put in efforts to keep it realistic. “I had really tried to keep it natural and realistic as if Sanjana could fight for her dreams, her duty with so much passion and confidence then all the girls or even boys out there who come from a restrictive family can do it too.”

She adds: “It is for the audience to decide how much they relate with the character. Although I would like to mention here that my character has had her own journey and experiences that made her rough and tough.”

Since the show covers various sentiments, Diljot feels that the versatility of all the characters will be highlighted in the show.

“It covers various genres from romance, action, comedy and drama. The show tries to keep the authenticity of an army camp alive. Every character brings you something new, be it dreams, passion, proving themselves or simply their ‘Ziddi Dil’,” says the actress.

Diljot finds her role challenging as she explains: “It is very demanding physically as I am playing the role of a lady officer. You know performing all those action sequences, drills and staying true to the character at the same time is a little challenging.”

Moreover language is also an issue for her as ‘Sanjana’ comes from Bundelkhand so getting the accent is a bit tricky and tough.

“Your accent is most important while playing these kinds of roles to look authentic and it is never an easy task. But being an adventurous and confident person, it was easy to get into the skin of character and give my best shot.”

“Ziddi Dil” is going to start in August on Sony SAB.
