Pooja Zaveri can’t stop gushing about Telugu star Allari Naresh

Actress Pooja Jhaveri feels Telugu star Allari Naresh has great comic timing and says that he can make people laugh even with a straight face.

The actress got a chance to work with him in the Telugu-language romantic drama, Bangaru Bullodu.

“Naresh is a fantastic actor and he can make people laugh even while having a straight face. He has superb comic timing. Working with someone like him makes you work hard on your own timings to ensure that the comedy scene remains intact. Apart from being an amazing co-star, he is a good soul,” Pooja told IANS.

The film revolves around Prasad (essayed by Naresh), who is a gold appraiser at a local bank, and his grandfather (Tanikella Bharani) who is a goldsmith. The story starts when his grandfather lets him in on a secret and puts Prasad on a path to fulfill his wish.

Talking about the film, she said: “It is a story with a village backdrop, in which I play a character named Mahalakshmi. At home, I am addressed as ‘Buddu Kanaka Laxmi’. The name itself is hilarious. It is out and out comedy! I am depicting the role of a typical village girl who dreams to get married to a guy in the US and enjoy her life.”

“She wants to flaunt a happy life to her village friends. The film is about how she falls in love with a village guy and her dreams of going to the US remain unfulfilled,” added Pooja.

Rithvik Dhanjani’s YouTube channel a platform for ‘creativity to flow’

Actor Rithvik Dhanjani, who is also a well-known show anchor and dancer, has launched his YouTube channel where he will produce dance videos.

“Creating a fun, relatable content was something I always wanted to do and in whatever free time I had, I did manage some for my social media. I for one spend my free time watching videos online. These could be (videos of) dance or stand-up comedy or life hacks. I was baffled by the kind of views such content gets, in millions! It gave me the idea that people, in general, like to move towards lighter content after spending stressful screen time on work or just mindless scrolling on social networking apps,” Rithvik tells IANS.

The actor, who shot to fame with his roles in the TV shows Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani and Pavitra Rishta, is currently focussed on the creative aspect of his channel.

“Looking into it as a commercial outlet is not my scene currently. Rather, it is a platform for my creativity to flow. I want to be more organized and also consistent. There is no specific thing I want to restrict myself to. As far as people who liked my work on the small screen go, they can always turn to my channel. My channel will be like a medium I own, where I can go by my rules and liberty to create what I like,” he says.

Rithvik’s recent maiden venture on the channel has been a dance cover video in collaboration with Suresh Mukund from the popular dance group Kings United. The video was of a dance performed on a Jay Sean cover.

‘Tandav’ row: Konkona Sensharma takes a dig

Actress Konkona Sensharma is bewildered by the stir around the web series Tandav. She wonders if the entire team will be held accountable for making the series.

Reacting to the Supreme Court’s decision to refuse to protect the makers and actors of Tandav from arrest, Konkona on Thursday tweeted: “Almost all involved in the show have read the script and signed the contract! Let’s arrest the whole cast and crew?”

Set in Delhi, Tandav revolves around the themes of power, ambition, and greed in the world of politics.

Soon after it dropped in OTT space, the series drew the ire of a section of politicians as well as public who claimed the show provokes communal disharmony and hurts Hindu sentiments. According to the complaints, a scene featuring Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub performing a college play insults the Hindu deity Shiva.

The series features Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Sunil Grover, Kritika Kamra, Sarah Jane Dias, Gauahar Khan, Dino Morea, Kumud Mishra, Shonali Nagrani, Anup Sonii, Neha Hinge, Sandhya Mridul, and Amyra Dastur.

The actors and makers of web series Tandav on Amazon Prime had on Wednesday urged Supreme Court to grant them protection from arrest in several FIRs registered across the country, but the top court declined to accede to their request, and instead made some sharp observations on the show’s content and stressed that freedom of speech is not absolute.

India ranks 86 out of 98 nations in Covid handling: Report

With more than 11 million Covid-19 cases, India has ranked 86 in a performance index of 98 countries for their handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, a report said on Thursday.

According to the performance index compiled by the Sydney-based Lowy Institute, neighboring Sri Lanka was in the 10th position in handling the Covid-19 outbreak.

The performance index showed that New Zealand handled the pandemic more effectively than any other country in the world, while Brazil sits at the bottom of the list.

New Zealand was closely followed by Vietnam, Taiwan, Thailand, and Cyprus, while the US was the fifth-worst performing country, The Sydney Morning Herald reported on Thursday.

In the report, the Lowy Institute revealed that smaller populations, cohesive societies, and capable institutions were big factors in successfully dealing with the pandemic.

The study measured a number of key indicators, including confirmed cases, deaths, cases per million people, and deaths per million people.

China was not included in the study because all of its testing rates are not publicly available.

With 11,666 new Covid-19 cases getting reported in the last 24 hours on Thursday, India has continued its streak of low single-day cases, even as the overall tally mounted to 1,07,01,193, health officials said.

For the past 21 days, the country has been recording less than 20,000 new infections daily. Also, the death toll remained below the 300-mark for the past 31 days.

On January 19, India had reported 10,064 new cases, the lowest so far this year. Last year, the lowest was recorded on June 3 at 9,633 cases.

The nationwide immunization drive began on January 16 after the approval of two Covid vaccines — Covaxin and Covishield — in the country. As many as 23,55,979 beneficiaries have received the first dose of the Covid vaccine in the first phase so far.

Actor Nakuul Mehta urges men to be allies to women

Popular television actor Nakuul Mehta has pledged his support to a campaign that encourages men not to be “silent spectators to violations of women safety and be an ally in this demand for safety”.

Mehta recently featured in a video promoting the importance of a woman’s consent and was also seen in an Instagram Live session, offering his support to #AllyUpForHer, a campaign jointly run by child rights NGO Save the Children and Yuvaa on Change.org.

“Standing up for respect and safety of women is something that must come naturally to any man. For years, we have been speaking about treating women as equals, but unfortunately, the balance has been tilted for far too long and the struggle to stand up for fundamental rights such as safety has been a single-handed battle fought only by women. It is time that we as men are at the forefront of this conversation and shoulder this responsibility to ensure that women don’t feel insecure in the presence or absence of a man. As men, we need to give a fillip to this movement and lead by example.”

According to Nikhil Taneja, Co-Founder, and CEO of Yuvaa, allyship comes out of compassion and this allyship is about listening to and understanding women. “If women feel consent is a concept that is poorly understood by men, then it is our responsibility to ensure that behaviour change happens within us.”

“When we speak about safe spaces, it cannot be made safe if we don’t talk about the role of everyone. That’s why men need to see that their participation and allyship is extremely important. It is time, men must stop being mute spectators when women are being abused and assaulted – be it online or offline as this only slows down our fight for justice. It is a reality that our behaviors are ultimately influenced by the popular culture and content we consume. And when we speak of men’s allyship, the role of influencers and public figure plays a huge role in modeling public behavior and action,” adds Pragya Vats, Head of Campaigns, Save the Children.

The petition also saw support from Badrinath Singh, Nirbhaya’s father, earlier who said a permanent change will only come when the collective mindset changes. “Men must stop being mute spectators while women face abuse online and on the ground,” says the campaign.

Recently, on National Day of the Girl on January 24, the partner organizations, in collaboration with a range of other cohorts who joined in this initiative, released a video Tum Akeli Nahi’ featuring male content creators in a spoken word video.

The petition urges popular OTT (over-the-top) platforms like to create content that promotes and encourages allyship and bystander intervention. It aims to catalyze change in mindset and mass media on the representation of men and boys and strives to engage men to partake in voice and action as equal stakeholders. The petition has garnered about 90,000 signatures so far.

#AllyUpForHer is urging your support in ensuring no girl anywhere must live in fear or pay with her life, said the organizations.
