High Court’s approved ‘Price hikes’ for theatres

Honorable High Court of Hyderabad gave temporary orders allowing cinema theatres to increase their prices in both Telugu States. With this directive from the court, the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh theatre owners are allowed to increase the hike in prices for all classes.

In the year 2013, Andhra Pradesh has issued a G.O approving theatres to increase their prices but the High Court made it null and void and asked the government to form a committee to set regulations on the price increase. Court gave a deadline of March’2017 to form such committee and take a final decision on the same. Still, neither the United AP nor the twin states post bifurcation took any action on the court directive.

Now, the theatre owners have approached High Court for approving them to increase prices until the government takes a final call on this issue. Contrary to its earlier orders, the High Court has now considered the petition of theatre owners.

While hearing the petition, Justice S V Bhatt, pointed the inaction of governments of both Telugu States in the issue as per the court directive and gave orders in favor of theaters owners. However, they have to inform the authorities about the hiked prices and pay taxes as per hikes. High Court also asked ordered the governments to file the counters as soon as possible and adjourned the case to February. Surely with prices hitting rooftop, it will impact the filmgoers.

While Television and controversies go hand in hand there is no shock that Kathi is always seen on prime channels. Kathi surely cashed this weakness. We can see him repeatedly commenting on Pawan Kalyan, and other few celebrities. It now became a daily habit to him. Earlier fans countered his absurd comments, but recently even celebrities are surprising with their replies.

The latest one was actress Poonam Kaur. She attacked him in a series of tweets and even went on to call him ‘fatso’. She tweeted ‘Beggars are better than people who are making ‘money criticizing others. Change the man or the topic, we are bored to see the same fatso (on TV).’ She further tweeted-“Don’t tell me commenting on being fat is personal, I am worried about millions watching him and getting inspired. I am concerned about people’s physical and mental health”

Earlier, Film writer Kona Venkat too tweeted- “Some jokers are taking the silence of Pawan Kalyan for granted…don’t ….”

But does it matter to this deadly self-proclaimed intelligent man? People are wondering, will there ever be a vaccine for this intelligent disease?

Yes, photos featuring Megastar Chiranjeevi, ‘Angry Young Man’ Rajasekhar and ‘Dialogue King’ surfaced online. Though it is hard to believe, it is absolutely true. The families of the three heroes reportedly participated in a New Year bashed exclusively held at Park Hyatt Hotel, Hyderabad.

Everyone knows the rift between Chiranjeevi and hero Rajasekhar, and similarly between Chiranjeevi and Mohan Babu. Though, Jeevitha Rajasekhar dismissed that there were not issues between Chiranjeevi and Rajasekhar, and it is the media who has created them all, the fans very well know the truth in the comments.

Similarly, Mohan Babu rubbished the claims that there are deep misunderstandings between him and Chiranjeevi. The actor went on to say that he and Chiranjeevi are more like ‘Cat and Mouse’ type. But the actor is very well-known for his left hand comments on various public platforms about Chiranjeevi even in the recent past.

After the release of Baahubali, the Telugu film industry can broadly be classified as, before and after Baahubali. Undoubtedly, there is no other film in the near future that could possibly surpass the collections of Baahubali. It won’t be surprising if it takes two to three decades for a Telugu movie to break Baahubali – The Conclusion records.

Given this kind of situation, few people made popular the term ‘Non-Baahubali Records’. Leaving aside Baahubali, Megastar Chiranjeevi’s re-entry film ‘Khaidi No.150’ currently tops the Tollywood box-office records. Trade experts believe that Power Star Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Agnathavasi’ is likely to break ‘Khaidi No. 150’ records.

The film is a milestone in Pawan Kalyan’s career; one for being his 25^th film, and the other for probably being his last film. And given his previous venture with Trivikram Srinivas, there are sky-high expectations on Agnathavasi movie. The movie has already generated a Rs.200 crore pre-release business. Given its wide release in over 600+ locations in the US alone, and wide release in the Telugu states, the film is likely to surpass all box-office records.

Interestingly, Khaidi No.150 which broke all the existing records released for last Sankranti and, Agnathavasi, which is expected to break Khaidi No. 150 records is also releasing for Sankranti.

Director SS Rajamouli has taken the Telugu cinema to the next level with his film series ‘Baahubali’. Reportedly, the film has also impressed many Hollywood screenwriters, directors and production houses. Baahubali took the box-office collections by storm, and surpassed almost all the Indian movies, released till date, in collections.

Post the release of ‘Baahubali – The Conclusion’, Rajamouli did not announce about his next project. He only stated that he wouldn’t be using CG and VFX in his upcoming film. Surprisingly, few sections in the film circles claimed that Rajamouli is busy script-preparations for the rumored multi-starrer movie starring Ram Charan and Jr. NTR.

But the latest buzz is that Rajamouli is likely to make an announcement regarding his upcoming project. It is learned that the director will be holding an official press meet, to announce details of his upcoming movie, its cast, shooting date and even the film’s release date.

Unofficial sources have already confirmed that the regular shooting of this rumored multi-starrer film will commence from September, and the film will be releasing for 2019 Dusshera festival. Surprisingly, Ram Charan and NTR are also learned to finish their current shooting schedules by August, official sources said.

In the past five years, the ticket prices rose between 50% to 150%, given the theatre’s location, and theatre’s setup. With the increase in ticket prices, the moviegoer was forced to think twice before he wanted to watch a movie in a movie theatre.

Even then, the producers still demanded the increase in ticket prices. After the Andhra Pradesh government said it is not possible to increase the ticket prices, prominent people from the film industry approached the High Court.

After hearing the proceedings, the High Court overruled the government’s decision and allowed the producers to the increase the ticket prices. This ruling came as an ‘imminent’ order, with the High Court requesting the government to submit its petition on why shouldn’t the ticket prices increase.

The recent ruling from the court came as a shocker to the average moviegoer. In the past, the average ticket prices were between Rs. 40 and Rs. 60. After the increase in price, they shot up to Rs.80 and Rs. 150. Given the latest ruling, the minimum price of a movie ticket could touch Rs. 100. It costs Rs. 1000 and more for a family of 4, to watch a movie in a multiplex in the theatre, given the ticket prices and high prices of eatables.

2018, A Special year for Trivikram Srinivas!

It has been close to two decades since ‘wizard of words’ Trivikram Srinivas began his film career. With the film Athadu (2005), Trivikram turned to direction. Despite such a long career, the star director only directed 8 films to his name. One of the main reason for directing less number of movies is the amount of hard work he puts in developing the story, screenplay and writing the dialogues of the film. Given his 8 films in 12 years, the director’s average is less than one move per year.

Shockingly, in 2018, Trivikram is coming up with three films. His latest movie, ‘Agnathavasi’ starring Pawan Kalyan is slated to release on January 10^th. The director also planned to complete his next feature film with NTR within 4 months, and release the film for 2018 Dusshera festival. Post the completion of the film with NTR, Trivikram will be directing Venkatesh in a new movie. Even the Trivikram-Venkatesh movie is slated to release in December 2018.
