‘The Broken News’ trailer shows the reality of what goes behind news business

0

Mumbai, May 27 The trailer of web series ‘The Broken News’, which marks the OTT debut of Sonali Bendre, was unveiled at a five-star property in Mumbai’s Santa Cruz area on Friday.

The trailer of the show, which is adapted from the popular British series ‘Press’, presents a tale of the clash of these two disparate worlds, conflicting ideologies, and their incompatible ethics.

It shows what goes behind the business of daily news as the journalists try to balance work, ambition and integrity, amid the never-ending pressure to deliver ‘Breaking News’.

Commenting on her OTT debut, Sonali Bendre, who has starred in films like ‘Sarfarosh’ and ‘Zakhm’, said: “I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction on OTT platforms than with ‘The Broken News’ on ZEE5.”

“I connected with the concept as soon as I heard it as it’s so relevant for the times we’re living in. The entire crew and my amazing co-stars Jaideep and Shriya made my return to acting such an amazing experience. I’m so excited to share what we’ve created”, she added.

The show also stars Jaideep Ahlawat, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Taaruk Raina, Indraneil Sengupta, Faisal Rashid, Kiran Kumar, Aakash Khurana and Sanjeeta Bhattacharya in pivotal roles.

Sharing what appealed to him about the show, actor Jaideep Ahlawat said: “I love exploring complicated and nuanced characters and Dipankar Sanyal is one such dream character. We are poles apart and maybe that’s why it was so much fun walking in his shoes. Also, it was a pleasure collaborating with ZEE5 again and with BBC Studios for the first time. I am excited for the show’s premiere, and I am certain it will make a strong impression on public consciousness.”

The series revolves around two rival news networks and reveals the lives, lies, love and struggles of a dynamic group of journalists. Awaaz Bharati is an ethical and a credible news channel, headed by Editor-In-Chief Amina Qureshi (played by Sonali Bendre) and Josh 24/7 News, headed by Editor-In-Chief Dipankar Sanyal (played by Jaideep Ahlawat), is India’s No.1 news channel as per TRPs but believes in sensationalism and invasive journalism.

Between these two extreme characters is Radha Bhargava (played by Shriya Pilgaonkar) who believes in ethical journalism but is frustrated with the restrictions which come along.

Shedding light on the show’s relevance and its narrative, Shriya said a series like ‘The Broken News’ is incredibly relevant today. I like stories and characters which not only entertain but also raise poignant questions. Playing Radha Bhargav did just that which made it personally very exciting for me.”

“To add to that, it was an absolute privilege working with Jaideep Alhawat and Sonali Bendre, two actors that I admire immensely and whom I can now call my friends. ‘The Broken News’ was a creatively fulfilling experience”, she further said.

Produced by BBC Studios India and directed by Vinay Waikul, ‘The Broken News’ will drop on OTT platform ZEE5 on June 10 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.

Twitter abuzz with complaints of unhappy ‘F3’ viewers

0

Hyderabad, May 27 The Telugu film ‘F3’ starring Venkatesh Dagguabti and Varun Tej, which was released in theatres on Friday, has left a mixed impression on audiences.

Reports emanating from the early screenings suggest that ‘F3’ falls short of the expectations set by ‘F2’, the first installment of the ‘Fun & Frustration’ franchise.

The film had a good first half, with Venkatesh’s night blindness as his comedic streak and Varun Tej’s stutter as his entertaining aspect, but it falls flat as the narrative relies solely on the lead actors and lacks a strong story.

The second half consists primarily of old-school slapstick comedy. What the audience perceives is that Anil Ravipudi has tried to imitate the approach of EVV Satyanarayana, the late Telugu director known for his parodies, but he seems to have failed to recognize that it is nearly impossible to replicate the old master’s style.

“‘F3’ may impress a segment of the audience, but it offers nothing new to the general public,” one Twitter user complained. “With the exception of Venky and Varun, this film isn’t even close to ‘F2’. Dissatisfied,” commented another.

“You’re daydreaming if you think #AnilRavipudi will make a sensible comedy,” said yet another tweep. “#F3Movie demonstrates a shocking level of complacency. In a recycled plot, every character is an obnoxious, paper-thin caricature. At the very least, none of the jokes are up to the level of #F2Movie.”

Varun Dhawan, and Kiara Advani enthrall fans in Delhi with ‘The Punjaabban’ song

New Delhi, May 27 Bollywood stars Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani got a warm welcome in the national capital as they were greeted with loud cheers, hoots, and whistles.

The actors were in New Delhi on Friday for launching their new number ‘The Punjaabban’ song from their upcoming film ‘Jug Jugg Jeeyo’. Officially dropping on Saturday, in an exclusive showcase to media and fans of the two stars.

Varun and Kiara also danced and showed their fans the hook step of the number, which also stars Neetu Kapoor and Anil Kapoor, in the Connaught Place area of New Delhi.

‘The Punjaabban’ song is the same number that recently got pulled into a controversy as Pakistani singer Abrar ul Haq accused filmmaker Karan Johar on Twitter of “copying” his song ‘Nach Punjaban’ in his upcoming production without his permission.

Addressing the copyright issue at the song launch, Varun said: “T-series has put out an official statement about this they legally licensed the rights. I think when you have international companies like Youtube, and Spotify … When they are playing music they have very strict laws about copyrights. It’s no joke. All the processes have been followed.”

Slated to release in theatres on June 24, ‘Jug Jugg Jeeyo’ is directed by Raj Mehta.

Scorsese, Kevin Costner, De Niro mourn Ray Liotta’s passing

Los Angeles, May 27 Hollywood tributes are pouring in for Ray Liotta, the distinctive ‘Goodfellas’ actor, who died in his sleep at the age of 67. The actor was in the Dominican Republic at the time of his death shooting for the movie ‘Dangerous Waters’. Liotta went to sleep and never woke up, the actor’s publicist confirmed, according to ‘Variety’.

‘Goodfellas’ director Martin Scorsese remembered the actor in a statement: “I’m absolutely shocked and devastated by the sudden, unexpected death of Ray Liotta. He was so uniquely gifted, so adventurous, so courageous as an actor.”

Scorsese noted: “Playing Henry Hill in ‘Goodfellas’ was a tall order, because the character had so many different facets, so many complicated layers, and Ray was in almost every scene of a long, tough shoot. He absolutely amazed me, and I’ll always be proud of the work we did together on that picture. My heart goes out to his loved ones, and it aches for his loss, way too early.”

Liotta’s ‘Field of Dreams’ co-star Kevin Costner tweeted: “Devastated to hear the news of Ray Liotta’s passing. While he leaves an incredible legacy, he’ll always be ‘Shoeless Joe Jackson’ in my heart. What happened at that moment in the film was real. God gave us that stunt. Now God has Ray.”

His ‘Goodfellas’ co-star Robert De Niro shared a statement, writing: “I was very saddened to learn of Ray’s passing. He is way too young to have left us. May he Rest in Peace.”

Another of Liotta’s ‘Goodfellas’ co-stars, Lorraine Bracco, wrote on Twitter: “I can be anywhere in the world and people will come up and tell me their favourite movie is ‘Goodfellas’. Then they always ask what was the best part of making that movie. My response has always been the same … Ray Liotta.”

‘F3’ director Anil Ravipudi releases video, targets trolls

0

Hyderabad, May 27 In the middle of the buzz surrounding Anil Ravipudi’s Telugu family entertainer ‘F3’, the director has released a video in which he attempts to silence his trolls.

Ravipudi and his film have been the targets of troll attacks on social media. Unfazed, Ravipudi has stated that he will continue to make films in his signature style and therefore does not take the negative feedback to heart.

The debutant director compares trolls who try to bring down his films to non-vegetarians who shame vegetarians by comparing each individual’s food choices.

“Non-vegetarians have no idea of what vegetarian food tastes like and vegetarians will not stop eating the way they do just because they are being trolled,” Ravipudi said. There is an audience for all types of films as long as they are well-made.

With his over-the-top films that pack in a lot of fun, Ravipudi has carved a niche for himself. His latest, ‘F3’, is out in theatres and early reports suggest that the movie is an entertainer.
