Los Angeles, May 21 A woman protesting against sexual violence in Ukraine was removed from the Cannes Film Festival red carpet during the world premiere of George Miller’s ‘Three Thousand Years of Longing’.

Video footage from the carpet saw a woman trying to crash the event while screaming at the top of her lungs. She was quickly removed from the carpet by a handful of security guards.

The topless woman was wearing only panties and had the word “scum” written on her lower back, reports Variety.

The radical feminist activist organiSation Scum posted on Twitter: “This activist exposed the war rapes and sexual torture committed on Ukrainian women by Russian soldiers.”

Blood-red paint also appeared on her lower back and legs.

The colors of the Ukrainian flag were spray-painted across the woman’s torso, as were the words: “Stop raping us.”

Security guards quickly covered up the woman and removed her from the red carpet.

The incident occurred on the red carpet in front of the Palais for the premiere of ‘Three Thousand Years of Longing’, Miller’s first directorial effort since dazzling the film industry with ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’.

The film stars Tilda Swinton as a scholar who encounters a magical Djinn (Idris Elba) while in a hotel room in Istanbul and learns of his fantastical past while contemplating the three wishes she can make in his presence. Miller, Swinton, and Elba appeared on the Cannes red carpet after the woman was already removed.

Getting into Cannes’ Lumiere theater in the Palais requires multiple security checks.

Guards are positioned outside of the carpet at stations that require attendees to walk through a metal detector.

Once an attendee gets through that checkpoint, they meet more guards at the start of the carpet that directs them when they are allowed to enter the theater. The red carpet itself is lined with security.

Vijay Babu slips out of Dubai? Red Corner notice to be issued on Tuesday

0

Kochi, May 20 Police in Kerala suspect that actor-producer Vijay Babu, who is on the run after being accused of rape, has fled Dubai where he was hiding, for another country.

“We suspect that he has left Dubai for another country and we are waiting for the confirmation. Based on the court warrant, the Regional Passport Officer has impounded his passport. If he doesn’t surrender before Tuesday, then we will be issuing a red corner notice,” said Kochi City Police Commissioner C.H. Nagaraju who is heading the probe to track down Vijay Babu.

Babu, according to the police, is on the run after an actress from Kozhikode filed a complaint in Ernakulam on April 22 that she was raped and beaten up by him several times at a flat in Kochi.

Soon after the news surfaced, Babu appeared live on his social media handle claiming that he was the “real victim” in this case, adding that he would take appropriate legal steps against the complainant, whom he also named.

The police apart from her complaint, have registered a second case against the actor for disclosing the name of the complainant.

She has also accused the actor of giving her intoxicants before sexually abusing her.

As soon as the case was registered, Babu who was in Goa slipped out of the country to Dubai and he also filed an anticipatory bail plea in the Kerala High Court which is expected to be heard soon.

Babu, knowing that the Kerala Police was out to get him, reportedly slipped out of Dubai to another country, which does not have an extradition treaty with India.

Babu is doing everything he can to get anticipatory bail and he is expected to move the Supreme Court, if he fails to get relief from the Kerala High Court.

The Kerala Police have failed to get Babu from Dubai despite approaching the Indian Embassy in the UAE.

Manushi Chhillar on how she prepped for her role in ‘Prithviraj’

0

Mumbai, May 20 Bollywood debutante Manushi Chhillar reveals her preparation for her role in Akshay Kumar-starrer ‘Prithviraj’ which is based on the life of Prithviraj Chauhan.

Manushi shares: “The preparation schedule for me was long and intense. Adi sir and my director Dr Chandraprakash ji wanted me to go through the drill before I even gave my first shot and looking back, I’m thankful that I put in the hard work.”

The actress shares that she also worked on her dancing skills for this movie: “I’m a trained classical dancer and this film made me brush up my dancing skills because I have three songs in the film! I had to nail the choreography, especially in ‘Hadd Kar De’. It is a beautiful Holi song and it needed me to be precise and also exhibit the fact that I could dance well. I hope that I have been able to show people that I’m a hard-working actor who is seeking perfection from my first film.”

She adds: “I have miles to go and lots to learn but my eyes are on the prize. I had to also pick up some interesting skill sets like archery and horse-riding! I have to admit that I had a lot of fun learning these. I learned horse riding as a kid because my father used to take me and my siblings for horse riding so I kind of knew the basics of it but I never had to hold the reins or gallop with the horse.”

“I have a horse riding sequence, however, I am sitting behind sir. So, it was interesting to do that sequence. I’m a student of art. So, every day was special on the sets of the film because I could learn so much and return the next day, hungry for more,” she concludes.

‘Prithviraj’ has been directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi. The film is set to release on June 3 in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
