Raj Kumar Vaish Done ‘PG’ at 98 years

Yes, that’s right! Raj Kumar Vaish was awarded master’s degree in economics by Meghalaya Governor Ganga Prasad at the convocation function of NOU, Patna. This man, a 98-year-old has enrolled in MA economics in the year 2015. He became the recipient of a postgraduate degree at the 12th convocation of Nalanda Open University here.
“I am happy today. I worked hard. Since a long time, I had cherished the dream of completing my masters, the young should concentrate on their education and not on career alone,” Vaish told the reporters here after receiving the degree.
The University’s Registrar S P Sinha said a total of 22,100 students were awarded various degrees this year. In them, 2780 that included 29 gold medalists were invited to the convocation ceremony. Surprisingly, Vaish is one of those in 2780.
Vaish’s proud son, Santosh Kumar was present at his father’s presentation ceremony, also shared that governor told his father, that he is a source of inspiration.
The old man was offered a wheelchair since he had difficulty in climbing the stairs, but he chose to move with the help of a walker and receive his degree.
Vaish completed his graduation from Agra University in 1938, and secured a degree in LLB in the year 1940, but could not pursue post-graduation after getting a job. He retired as a general manager in early 1980’s.
