Restore movement of goods trains, Amarinder to Railways Minister

0

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Monday sought personal intervention of Railways Minister Piyush Goyal for the restoration of freight movement, which remained suspended even after the farmers’ decision to partially lift their blockade.

The Chief Minister spoke to the Minister in the light of the decision of the Railways to extend the ban on movement of goods trains for another four days till October 29.

The decision to discontinue freight movement in Punjab, subsequent to the partial success of negotiations with the farmers, had negated the efforts of the state so far, said the Chief Minister, warning that the move may, in fact, further provoke the agitated farmers protesting against the Centre’s farm laws.

Citing the grave impact of the non-restoration of freight traffic by the Railways, Amarinder Singh had written to Goyal, expressing serious concern that if the freight movement is not started immediately, “not only Punjab will face serious disruption in economic activities and shortage of essential supplies, but Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Leh and Ladakh will also face a serious economic crisis”.

He cited various requests received by the state government from different quarters, including Central ministries and departments, for immediate resumption of freight movement through Punjab.

Earlier, the state government, through constant engagement in negotiations with the Kisan Unions, had succeeded in convincing them to allow the partial resumption of services with withdrawal of their blockade from October 22.

However, after the restoration of movement of freight trains on October 23, the Railways had unilaterally stopped movement of all freight trains in Punjab, Amarinder Singh pointed out in his letter to Goyal.

“There is now no plausible reason to stop freight operations in and through Punjab,” he said, adding his government was also continuing with its efforts to persuade the protesting farmers to restore the passenger railway traffic also.

Later, on the Chief Minister’s directives, Chief Secretary Vini Mahajan also spoke to the Chairman of the Railway Board and noted that the Chief Minister had set up a committee of three ministers to discuss complete lifting of their ‘Rail Roko’ blockade to allow even passenger trains.

However, as far as goods trains are concerned, no mainline is blocked for goods trains as of date, and only a single track that goes and ends at the private thermal plant Talwandi Sabo is currently blocked, she pointed out, adding there was no justification for the continued ban by the Railways on movement of goods trains in Punjab.

Besides the shortage of essential commodities, the state also needs to urgently lift food stocks from warehouses to make way for more grain, she added.

Govt male employees entitled to child care leave: DoPT

0

In a major reform brought by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the Central government has entitled male employees of the government to Child Care Leave (CCL).

Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced the move taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government while briefing about some of the major reforms brought by DoPT.

However, Singh said that the provision and privilege of CCL will be available only for those male employees who happen to be “single male parent”, which may include male employees who are widowers or divorcees or even unmarried and may, therefore, be expected to take up the responsibility of child care as a single-handed parent.

Describing it as a path-breaking and progressive reform to bring ease of living for government servants, Singh said, the orders regarding this had been issued quite some time back but somehow did not receive enough circulation in the public.

In a further relaxation of this provision, Singh informed that an employee on CCL may now leave the headquarter with the prior approval of Competent Authority.

In addition, the Leave Travel Concession (LTC) may be availed by the employee even if he is on Child Care Leave.

Elaborating further, the Minister informed that CCL can be granted at 100 percent of leave salary for the first 365 days and 80 percent of leave salary for the next 365 days.

Based on the inputs over a period of time, Singh said, another welfare measure introduced in this regard is that in case of a disabled child, the condition of availing CCL up to the age of 22 years of the child has been removed and now Child Care Leave can be availed by a government servant for a disabled child of any age.

With the personal intervention and indulgence of Prime Minister and his special emphasis on governance reforms, the minister said, it has been possible to make several out-of-box decisions in the DoPT over the last six years.

The basic purpose behind all these decisions has always been to enable a government employee to contribute to the maximum of his potential, although at the same time there will be no leniency or tolerance toward corruption or non-performance, he said.

‘You were winners then, you are winners now’: CSK out of IPL playoffs race

0

Chennai Super Kings, three-time IPL champions, have become the first team to be eliminated from the playoffs race for the ongoing Indian Premier League being played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

On Sunday, CSK defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by eight wickets to keep their slim chances of making it to the top-four intact. However, Rajasthan Royals registered a brilliant win over Mumbai Indians to kill the hopes of the MS Dhoni-led side of making it to the playoffs.

CSK has eight points from 12 games and is placed at the bottom of the table whereas Rajasthan has 10 points from 12 matches and is positioned sixth.

Following CSK’s failure to secure a playoffs berth, Dhoni’s wife Sakshi made a heartfelt post saying “It’s just a game” and that CSK were “winners then” and are “winners now”.

“It’s just a game…You win some you lose some!! Years gone by are witness to many enthralling victories and a few agonizing defeats! Celebrating one and being heartbroken by the other! Some reasonable response others not so… Some win, some lose and others miss…It’s just a game!” Sakshi said in a post on Instagram.

“Many preachers and varied reactions! Allow emotions not to beat the very essence of sportsmanship…It’s just a game! No one wants to lose, but not all can be winners! When struck down, stunned, the walk back from the field seems long. Jubilant sounds and sighs add to the pain, inner strength takes control It’s all just a game! You were winners then, you are winners now! True warriors are born to fight as they will always be Super Kings in our hearts and in our minds!” she added.

After their loss against Mumbai Indians, Dhoni had also effectively accepted the three-time champions are out of the playoff race and are already looking forward to next year’s competition.

“This year hasn’t really been our year, apart from one or two games where we have batted and bowled well and fielded well together,” the CSK captain had said after their 10-wicket thumping in Sharjah.

“It doesn’t always go your way, but hopefully in the next three games, we will try to maybe put our last stand,” he added.

comfortable, secure, and economical traveling facility to 250,000 passengers daily.

41 AMU students selected as Unani Medical Officers

0

The growing interest in alternative therapies and methods of treatment have opened new avenues of employment and offered people a new ray of hope in the current dismal health scenario in the world.

A large number of students at the Aligarh Muslim University has enrolled for specialized courses in Unani Medicine. Interestingly, 41 AMU students have been selected by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission, for the posts of Unani Medical Officers.

All of them are pass outs from the Hakim Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, Faculty of Unani Medicine, AMU.

These students, who appeared for the interviews on October 13, 14, 15, and 16 were selected from among 171 candidates from across the country.

Congratulating the students for the achievement, AMU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor said that it was the result of continuous guidance by the dedicated faculty members and the hard work of students.

“It is hoped that by taking inspiration from the selected students, others will also be motivated to achieve higher goals,” said Prof Abdul Mannan, Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine.

Prof Saud Ali Khan, Principal, Tibbiya College urged achievers to celebrate their success but to keep their focus on succeeding in later stages as health workers serving the nation.

Australia’s Victoria sees first day without a case since June

0

Victoria state in Australia has recorded no new Covid-19 cases for the first time since Melbourne, the state capital, went into lockdown over 110 days ago.

The state was the epicenter of Australia’s second wave, accounting for over 90 percent of the country’s 905 deaths.

It saw cases surge to over 700 per day in July, but severe stay-at-home rules and a curfew have curbed the numbers.

State officials are expected to soon ease restrictions in Melbourne, the country’s second-largest city, the BBC reported.

An announcement had been expected on Sunday, but a small outbreak in the city’s north warranted a delay, Premier Daniel Andrews said.

But on Monday the state health department reported no new cases from the outbreak and no new deaths across the state. The state has not seen a day of no cases since 9 June.

Melbourne entered the current lockdown – it’s second for the year – on July 7.

Stay-at-home restrictions were later imposed on the rest of the state, but Melbourne has endured the toughest measures.

Australia has recorded nearly 27,500 infections and more than 900 deaths.

Most retail stores, restaurants, and workplaces remain closed and most home visits are still banned.

Until last week, Melburnians also had to endure a two-hour limit on outdoor socialising and exercise, and could only travel within 5 km of their home.

The heavily policed lockdown – one of the toughest in the world – has divided opinion among the city’s residents and prompted small protests.

As case numbers have fallen in recent weeks, business owners have been among the loudest critics calling for the state to re-open, but others have given vocal support for the restrictions.

The state government has also faced scrutiny over how the virus was able to gain hold across Melbourne, after spreading from hotel quarantine for returned travelers.

A judicial inquiry into the matter has heard there were weaknesses in contact-tracing at the start of the second wave.

The rest of Australia has seen very few virus cases in recent months.

Sydney has reported case numbers around Melbourne’s level for the past fortnight, but health officials have so far curtailed the outbreaks.

Jim Sarbh: Don’t think we give credit to all pieces that go into a film

Actor Jim Sarbh says not much credit is given to all the pieces that go into making a film.

“Everyone likes to think that actors are the greatest things on earth, but no. It’s all (about) good film, good direction, and things put together, the way it is edited,” the actor told IANS.

“I don’t think we give credit to all the pieces that go into a film. So, as long as you can stop thinking about yourself as the main and start thinking about more in terms of telling great stories I think things are fine,” he added.

Jim made his debut in Bollywood in 2016 with the film “Neerja”, and was later seen in films like “Padmaavat”, “Raabta”, “A Death In The Gunj”, “Sanju” and “House Arrest”.

Asked if he is happy with his run in Bollywood so far, Jim said: “Yeah, it is more like, ‘oh, cool! Work is happening so let’s try to do this the best way I can and move on to the next one’.”

He added: “I think all you can really do is put your head down and try to work and try to make the best of opportunities that come to you, and not be so worried about the star-based system and instead be committed to telling good stories.

Jim will soon be seen in Bejoy Nambiar’s revenge dram “Trish”, which also features Pulkit Samrat, Kriti Kharbanda, Harshvardhan Rane, and Sanjeeda Sheikh. “Trish” releases as a film as well as series on Zee5.

Agra records 142 Covid deaths, recovery rate goes up to 91.95%

0

While the number of fatalities from Covid-19 has gone up alarmingly to 142 in the Taj city, the recovery rate continues to show an encouraging trend. In the last four days, there have been four deaths, but the number of patients discharged so far after recovery has gone up to 6,450.

With 35 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, the total number of Covid-19 cases now is 7,015 cases. District magistrate PN Singh said 2,52,636 samples had been collected in the district so far. The number of active cases has come down to 423.

The daily figures for October show a declining trend and speak of the success of the multi-pronged strategy implemented by the district administration to battle Covid-19.

The Agra Model has been talked about in administrative circles. From the high of 150 odd daily cases in September, the October situation is relatively better as the daily reporting of the number of Covid-19 cases has come down to below 50, though there has been no drop in the sample testing figures.

Meanwhile, airlines that had earlier announced air connectivity from Agra to eight major cities of India, have expressed their inability to start flights as per schedule, as the number of tourists visiting Agra remains lamentably low.

Only a single flight connects Agra with Jaipur four days a week. However, the trains are running packed with no reservations available till Diwali.

Health department officials warn of a hike in the number of cases as the temperature starts falling from November. “Complacency could hit us hard,” warned IMA secretary Dr. Sanjay Chaturvedi who urged people to continue to follow the Covid-19 guidelines sincerely.

Though the famous Bankey Bihari temple in Vrindavan reopened for ‘darshan’, parents continue to show reluctance to send children to attend classes, in Mathura, Firozabad, and Agra districts.

“Ahead of Diwali, the markets are buzzing with activity and more people turning up for purchases, but the fear of violation of guidelines is very much there, as we see a large number of devotees and commoners without masks,” said Vrindavan activist Jagan Nath Poddar. The streets and bazaars are crowded with people and we expect a big turnout for the festivals ahead, Divali and Annakoot Bhoj, followed by Yam Dwitiya in Mathura when brothers and sisters take a holy dip in the Yamuna, Poddar added.

Future-RRVL deal stalled; RRVL says ‘intend to enforce rights & complete transaction’

0

E-commerce major Amazon has got a favorable ruling in Singapore regarding Reliance Retail’s buyout of the debt-laden Future Group as the deal has been temporarily stalled.

Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd in a statement said that it has entered into the transaction for the acquisition of assets and business of Future Retail Limited under proper legal advice and the rights and obligations are fully enforceable under Indian law.

“RRVL intends to enforce its rights and complete the transaction in terms of the scheme and agreement with Future group without any delay,” it said.

The arbitration panel, in an interim order, has directed the Kishore Biyani-led Future Group not to proceed with the deal with Reliance Retail for now.

“We welcome the award of the Emergency Arbitrator. We are grateful for the order which grants all the reliefs that were sought. We remain committed to an expeditious conclusion of the arbitration process,” an Amazon spokesperson said.

Future Group, however, did not immediately respond to the matter.

In a major turn of events in the buyout of the businesses of the debt-laden Future Group by Reliance Retail, e-commerce giant Amazon.com earlier this month stepped in and said that Future Group violated a contract with it by entering into the sale agreement with the Mukesh Ambani-led retail major.

Last year, Amazon acquired a 49 percent stake in Future Coupons, a Future group entity.

In August, Reliance Retail Ventures Limited (RRVL), a subsidiary of RIL announced that it is acquiring the retail, wholesale, logistics, and warehousing business from the Future Group as going concerns on a slump sale basis for a lump sum aggregate consideration of Rs 24,713 crore, subject to adjustments as set out in the composite scheme of arrangement.

The acquisition is part of the scheme in which the Future Group is merging certain companies carrying on the aforesaid businesses into Future Enterprises Limited (FEL).

Centre to seek Parliament’s nod for additional Rs 37k cr infra push

0

Centre will seek the Parliament’s approval for additional spending of Rs 37,000 crore on infrastructure development in the second batch of supplementary demands for grants.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had earlier in the month announced that the Centre’s capital expenditure budget for the current fiscal has been increased by an additional Rs 25,000 crore from a level of Rs 4,13,000 crore provided for FY21.

Further, the Union government has also approved the issuance of a special interest-free 50-year loan to states of Rs 12,000 crore for infrastructure development.

According to people in the know, the approval for these additional expenditures for infrastructure push will be sought from the Parliament through the second batch of supplementary demands for grants.

The second batch of supplementary demands for grants is generally presented during the winter session of Parliament.

Would have been nice to get this form earlier, says Stokes

0

Ben Stokes roared back to form on Sunday with an unbeaten 107 that helped Rajasthan Royals (RR) race to an eight-wicket win over Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium. The win provides a filip to RR’s floundering chances of making it to the playoffs, which still depends upon the results of other matches.

“Sort of bittersweet to be honest – it took so long to get one for the team. I would have preferred to get this form two or three games before when we weren’t relying on other results to get us through to the qualifiers,” said Stokes in the post-match presentation ceremony, in which he was declared player of the match.

“It’s always nice to get back to form. We needed a result from today, so – it’s a good victory.”

Stokes comes into the match after making scores of 30, 19, 15, 41, and 5 thus far in the IPL. He said that he had his best training session on Saturday since coming to the UAE and took that confidence into the match. His innings on Sunday helped RR chase down a target of 196 with eight wickets and more than two overs to spare and was part of an unbeaten 152-run stand for the third wicket with Sanju Samson.

“Training yesterday was the best I have had for the full time I have been here. Came into the game with a lot more confidence than the other games. Nice to spend some time out in the middle and finish the game off,” he said.

Stokes, Samson power Rajasthan to big 8-wkt win over Mumbai

0

Ben Stokes (107 not out) and Sanju Samson (54 not out) made a mockery of a target of 196 Mumbai Indians (MI) had set for Rajasthan Royals (RR) as they helped overhaul it with eight wickets and nearly two overs to spare in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match here on Sunday.

It was Stokes’s second IPL century and his highest score in T20s. RR ended their innings on 196 for two wickets in 18.2 overs in reply to table-toppers MI’s 195/5 wickets in 20 overs.

Despite the defeat, MI remains perched at the top position with 14 points from 11 matches while RR moved to sixth place with 10 points from 12 games. The competition for the fourth is heating up.

Each team plays 14 league matches, at the end of which the top four teams qualify for the final, to be played on November 10.

Stokes’s century not only garnered a much-needed win for the Royals — who are still afloat in the league — but also outshone Hardik Pandya’s blitzkrieg (60 not out, off 21 balls) which had earlier propelled MI to a competitive looking total.

Chasing the challenging target, RR lost opener Robin Uthappa (13) and Steve Smith (11) early with their scorecard reading 44/2 in 4.4 overs. Both the RR players were picked by James Pattinson (2/40).

However, both Stokes and Samson dusted off their rustiness in style as their sensible batting left the MI bowlers struggling.

The duo steered RR to 100 runs in 10.2 overs before wrapping things off in 18.2 overs.

Stokes’s masterclass was decorated with 14 fours and three sixes while Samson’s innings contained four fours and three sixes.

Earlier, Hardik Pandya’s whirlwind knock along with some valuable contributions from Ishan Kishan (37), Suryakumar Yadav (40) and Saurabh Tiwary (34) powered MI to 195/5 wickets in 20 overs.

Hardik and Tiwary accumulated 79 runs off the last five overs as MI recovered from a mini-collapse.

After losing opener Quinton de Kock (6) early, Suryakumar and Ishan shared an 83-run partnership to take MI near the 100-run mark.

Kartik Tyagi (1/45) got a breakthrough when he dismissed Kishan in the 11th over, leaving MI at 90/2.

The defending champions then went on to lose Suryakumar and Keiron Pollard (6) in quick succession that left MI at 101/4 in 13 overs. Pollard’s fall brought in Pandya, who started slowly before swiftly shifting gears.

Tiwary clobbered Jofra Archer (2/31) for 17 runs in the 17th over before Hardik, too, joined the party as he hammered Ankit Rajpoot (0/60) for 27 runs in the 18th over.

Archer got rid of Tiwary off the first delivery of the 19th over and conceded merely three runs in the next five balls.

However, Hardik was in no mood to spare RR bowlers as he smashed Kartik Tyagi for 27 runs off the final over, and in the process also notched up his half-century.

Hardik remained unbeaten on 61 as MI comfortably posted a challenging total. His carnage was laced with two fours and seven massive hits into the stands.

Brief scores: Rajasthan Royals: 196/2 wkts in 18.2 overs (Ben Stokes 107, Sanju Samson 54; James Pattinson 2/40) beat Mumbai Indians: 195/5 wkts in 20 overs (Hardik Pandya 60 not out, Suryakumar Yadav 40; Shreyas Gopal 2/30) by 8 wickets

That’s what we are crying for, says Smith after Stokes-Samson show

0

Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Steve Smith said that the manner in which they beat Mumbai Indians on Sunday at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium was exactly what they have been looking for this season. RR, whose chances of making it to the playoffs are hanging by a thread, stunned league leaders MI by chasing down a target of 196 with eight wickets and two overs to spare.

They pulled off the chase thanks to unbeaten knocks of 107 and 54 from Ben Stokes and Sanju Samson, respectively.

“Very pleased, that’s what we’re crying for, use the experience, take the game deep and that’s what both Stokes and Samson did,” said RR captain Steve Smith in the post-match presentation ceremony.

“The wicket was playing good, the ball was coming onto the bat, there was the intent – the shots were flowing, they just played good cricketing shots – I thought the partnership was fantastic,” he said.

RR looked like they could limit MI to a total close to 150 by the way they pulled things back in the middle overs, but Hardik Pandya’s 21-ball 60 propelled MI to 195/5. He was dropped in the 16th over while he was on six off seven balls.

“We played some good cricket in the first half, the dropped chance proved to be costly, perhaps we ended up giving away another 40-45 runs, but it didn’t matter in the end. I hope our batters take the confidence from this match and play knocks which will help the team win,” said Smith.

Indian fast men on fire: Tyagi, Arshdeep, Nagarkotti, Saini

0

Rajasthan Royals’ teenaged wiry pacer Kartik Tyagi cranked up the speeds in his early spell against the Mumbai Indians in an Indian Premier League match on Sunday, with his fastest ball being timed 147.9kmph.

Tyagi is not the only Indian to have impressed one and all in the ongoing T20 tournament. While seasoned pros like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami are only adding to their reputations, the likes of Tyagi, Arshdeep, Kamlesh Nagarkotti, and Navdeep Saini among others have put in valuable shifts for their teams.

Saini continues to be ranked among the fastest Indian bowlers. At the moment, he is at the 13th place in the fastest ball list, having clocked 147.92kmph in one of the three matches he has played in this IPL.

Tyagi, 19, was handed the ball for the first time by captain Steve Smith to bowl the fifth over in which he bowled four balls above the 140kmph mark.

A member of the Indian team for the 2020 under-19 World Cup, Tyagi’s fifth ball of the over, to Suryakumar Yadav, was timed 147.9kmph on Sunday. It was, however, short of a length just outside off stump that Suryakumar put away for four.

Tyagi was brought back for the 11th over and ended up delivering the wicket that his team had been looking for the in-form Ishan Kishan’s. While his first two balls in the over crossed 140kmph, he then pulled back to 127.7kmph, before sending the fourth ball of the over at just a mark below 140kmph. The delivery did the trick as he dismissed Kishan and thus ended a blossoming 83-run partnership between Ishan and Suryakumar.

A right-arm pacer from Uttar Pradesh, Tyagi made his IPL debut this season, in RR’s previous match against Mumbai Indians, and got his first wicket in his very first over, accounting for the wicket of Quinton de Kock.

Tyagi’s teammate from that tournament, Arshdeep Singh, also made his mark on Saturday for Kings XI Punjab, playing an integral role in the team extraordinarily defending a target of 127 against SunRisers Hyderabad.

Unlike Arshdeep, however, the speeds and the wicket of Kishan were the only positive notes of an otherwise forgettable day for Tyagi. While his 16th overproduced only five runs, it featured a dropped catch off Hardik Pandya off the last ball.

Pandya was on six off seven balls and he took off after that. Tyagi was brought back to bowl the last over of the innings when he bore the brunt of Pandya’s carnage and ended up conceding 27 runs in the over.

Stokes, Samson roar back to form as RR beat MI by 8 wickets

0

Ben Stokes and Sanju Samson made a mockery of a target of 196 set for them by the Mumbai Indians (MI) by helping Rajasthan Royals (RR) chase down with eight wickets and nearly two overs to spare. Stokes remained unbeaten on 107, thus scoring his second Indian Premier League (IPL) century and his highest score in T20s yet, while Samson was unbeaten on 54 as they ended their innings on 196/2 in reply to MI’s 195/5.

Stokes and Samson’s stunning assault produced as many as 65 runs between the 11th and 16th overs, thus leaving them needing 24 runs to chase off the last 24 balls. Their unbeaten third-wicket partnership was worth a whopping 152 runs off just 82 balls after Stokes hit a six and a four off the first two balls of the 19th over bowled by James Pattinson to end the game. Pattinson was the only bowler to take wickets for MI, dismissing Stokes’ opener Robin Uthappa and RR captain Steve Smith early on in the innings.

Stokes is the first England player to have scored two centuries to his name in the IPL. He had earlier scored an unbeaten 103 for Rising Pune Supergiant against Gujarat Lions in the 2017 season. RR has also broken the record for the highest successful chase by any team against MI in the IPL. The win keeps RR’s slender hopes of making it to the playoffs alive as they remain level on points with fifth-placed Kings XI Punjab and two points behind fourth-placed Kolkata Knight Riders.

Earlier, it was Hardik Pandya’s 21-ball 60 that propelled MI to 195/5. Pandya’s carnage meant that MI, who had been reeled in by RR after a good start, milked 79 runs off the last five overs. He hit four sixes in the 18th overs bowled by Ankit Rajpoot and the overproduced 27 runs. Kartik Tyagi bowled the last over in which Pandya hit three sixes and two fours, thus sending another over for 27 runs.

Brief scores: MI 195/5 in 20 overs (Hardik Pandya 60 not out, Suryakumar Yadav 40; Shreyas Gopal 2/30) vs RR 196/2 in 20 overs (Ben Stokes 107 not out, Sanju Samson 54 not out; James Pattinson 2/40).

JUH approaches SC against new Assam NRC coordinator order

0

Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has alleged that a new game to exclude Muslims from NRC in Assam has begun and has approached the Supreme Court against the controversial notification of a new state coordinator, Hitesh Dev Sarma, on Sunday.

The JUH alleged that the new state coordinator, Hitesh Dev Sarma, has issued a notification to all the District Registrars of Citizen Registration (DRSR) of the state on October 13, saying that “it has come to our notice that the names of many such illegal persons and their ancestors have included in NRC. Those who are either suspicious or de-voters or have been declared foreigners by the foreign tribunal, all such people should be removed from NRC because they are foreigners.”

The new coordinator had referred to Section 4 (3) of the Citizenship Act (Registration of Citizens and Issuance of National Identity Card) 2003, in which he said that before the publishing of the final list of NRC in Assam, the names of such people can be verified, while the reality is that after the publishing of the partial list of NRC on July 23, 2019, the Centre and Assam Government were seeking re-verification against people whose relatives are not included in the NRC.

But the JUH says that at that time the Supreme Court rejected their petitions, saying that there is no need for re-verification or NRC, the final list of NRC should be published by August 31, 2019.

Although the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind had filed an appeal in Supreme Court to keep D-Voter on hold, the state coordinator says that they cannot be put on hold, they are foreigners so their names should be removed from NRC.

JUH chief Arshad Madani has alleged that “this is the same Hitesh Dev Sarma who had made a controversial statements regarding Assam citizenship even before he became the state coordinator. Immediately after he became the state coordinator, Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind filed a petition in Supreme Court questioning his appointment. ”

“Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, Jamiat Ulama Assam and All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) have approached the court for challenging the latest order of the State Coordinator in Supreme Court today,” said advocate Fuzail Ayyubi

The people of Jamiat Ulama Assam are also providing legal aid to the people at the local level.

Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind is going to the Supreme Court with full preparation against it as well. Madani said that first of all, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind will take up the matter challenging the appointment of the new coordinator in the court, which has been pending since last January.

Madani said that the Assam citizenship case is being monitored by a monitoring bench of the Supreme Court and the status of the state coordinator is merely a mediator. In such a situation, the basic question arises, in the presence of the monitoring bench, in what capacity did the state coordinator issue such an order? Did they take the monitoring bench into confidence? If not, did they not exceed their authority by doing so?

Maulana Madani said that in principle, his order is a clear violation of the directive given by the Supreme Court from time to time. He explained that out of the 1.9 million people who have been left out of the NRC, according to our information, a large number of them are real citizens of Assam. They also have all the documents but still, their names were not included in NRC.

In that case, the state coordinator should have ensured their access to the legal process.

I was waiting for this, says Pandya after 21-ball 60

Hardik Pandya was at his explosive best on Sunday as he smashed 60 off 21 balls against the Rajasthan Royals (RR). It is his highest score thus far in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and with that, he propelled Mumbai Indians to a total of 195/5. He hit as many as seven sixes at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, which has proven to be a difficult ground for batsmen to clear.

“I was waiting for this. Was trying for it but it wasn’t coming. Hard work before this IPL has been fantastic from my side. So I was waiting for that one hit may be to get the rhythm and get back to hitting sixes which I love,” he told the broadcasters after the innings.

A back injury Hardik, 27, had suffered in 2018 resurfaced in 2019. Surgery and the subsequent lockdown due to Covid-19 kept him from the game for well over a year before the start of the tournament. Pandya is still working his way into full fitness, indicated by the fact that the fast-bowling all-rounder has not bowled a single over thus far in the tournament.

He has put in some valuable performances for MI in the lower middle order, notably being one half of a partnership with Kieron Pollard against Kings XI Punjab earlier this season in which the pair creamed 62 off 18 balls. He said that on Sunday, he was trying to hit from closer to his body.

“I thought that before this game I was trying to hit in front of my body too much. Today I was focusing on making sure that I don’t overhit it because I think I have enough power to clear the boundary. So I was more trying to time the ball and making sure I hit close to my body because I feel that’s where I have more control,” he said.
