Over 1.25 billion people visiting Facebook Watch every month

0

Since its launch in 2018, Facebook Watch which is an on-demand service to discover videos across the social network is witnessing more than 1.25 billion people discover and share videos from millions of creators and publishers.

However, the last few months have been tough for many creators and businesses owing to the pandemic.

“To help our partners, we are continuing to build new tools so they can diversify their revenue and expand their presence on Facebook,” Paresh Rajwat, Head of Video Products, said in a blog post on Thursday.

With growing demand to connect around music on Facebook, the company has introduced music videos in Watch to everyone in the US, India and Thailand.

Last month, Katy Perry debuted her new music video “Smile,” the title track of her just released fifth album, exclusively on Facebook to millions of fans.

“We recently launched paid online events to make it easy to create an online event, set a price, promote the event, collect payment and host the event, all in one place,” Rajwat said.

To support small businesses and creators, Facebook has announced not to collect any fees from paid online events for at least the next year.

“We’ve expanded availability of fan subscriptions and Stars so fans can support their favorite creators, and in-stream ads continue to evolve, making it easier to monetise more types of videos with ads,” Facebook said.

Spain snatch late draw against Germany in Nations League

0

Jose Luis Gaya’s injury-time equaliser cancelled out Timo Werner’s opener and helped Spain snatch a last-gasp 1-1 draw with Germany in Group 4 of the UEFA Nations League.

On Thursday, Germany started brightly on home soil and created the first chance of the game as Toni Kroos’ cross into the box allowed Thilo Kehrer to test Spain goalkeeper David de Gea in the 11th minute, reports Xinhua news agency.

Spain responded with a big chance at the other end of the pitch as a misplaced return pass from Emre Can to goalkeeper Kevin Trapp allowed Rodrigo Moreno to intercept the loose ball. However, Trapp denied Moreno after blocking the shot in the nick of time in the 14th minute.

Both sides continued to exchange attacks after Leroy Sane unleashed a hammer on target to force de Gea into action once again six minutes later.

Moreno remained in the thick of things and kept Germany’s defense busy as the striker hit an effort on target from a promising position in the dying seconds of the first half.

After the restart, Germany got a perfect start as Werner broke the deadlock on 51 minutes after capitalising on Robin Gosens’ square pass into the penalty area.

Germany took the reins and pressed forward whereas Spain looked shocked and unable to respond.

As the match progressed, Joachim Low’s men retreated with their narrow lead and kept all their men behind the ball.

Meanwhile, Spain lacked in penetration and failed to pose danger in front of Germany’s goal.

Luis Enrique’s team left it late and flabbergasted the hosts when Moreno flicked on a cross before Gaya poked home with a turn shot from very close range in the closing seconds of injury-time.

“It is of course very painful if you concede a goal in the last seconds of the match but I have to say that my team gave everything. Both sides played an interesting first half with chances at both ends of the green. I am overall satisfied with the performance,” said Germany head coach Joachim Low.

With the result, Spain and Germany share the spoils and second place in Group 4. The Spaniards clash with frontrunners Ukraine while Switzerland face Germany on Sunday.

Yash Raj Films’ 50-yr celebration includes customised drive-in theatre experience

A unique and customised drive-in theatrical experience for fans through the rich library of Yash Raj Films (YRF) classics is among the upcoming 50-year celebration plans of the banner.

The plan is YRF chairman and managing director Aditya Chopra’s initiative to immerse cinephiles in a wave of nostalgia.

“This drive-in idea is to celebrate the magic of cinema, the nostalgia that brand YRF has in the minds of the audience. Aditya Chopra is currently shaping up the plan for YRF Project 50, so we expect the drive-in theatre plan to be announced sometime in 2021,” a source said.

“Aditya Chopra wants Hindi cinema lovers around the world to remember the grand 50 year celebrations of YRF by giving them a full dose of nostalgia. YRF has made so many blockbusters that have left wonderful memories in the hearts of audiences for 50 long years. Adi wants to celebrate those special memories with audiences worldwide,” a source added.

According to the source, only the films that are in the library will be showcased through the drive-in exercise. “All new films that are part of YRF Project 50 will go through the standard release protocols of theatricals and then satellite and digital exhibition.”

Elaborating on the timing of the global plan, the source reasoned that the Covid pandemic has restricted people to their homes right now.

“Hopefully next year, people would want to seek out opportunities that they can celebrate with their family and make new memories post the pandemic,” the source added.

“Adi wants to give Hindi film lovers a huge opportunity to relive their memories of watching movies with their families in the grandest of styles. YRF will plan on getting partners on board globally to execute this grand idea across several countries,” said the source, about the banner’s drive-in plans.

Data from Sumit Nagal-Dominic Thiem match point to Nagal’s serve as weak link

0

The 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 scoreline tells us very little about how close India’s Sumit Nagal ran World Number 3 Dominic Thiem before bowing out of the second round of the US Open in New York. Nagal pulled off forehand winners from impossible angles, ran down every ball, clawed back from 0-3 in the first set, made Thiem sweat and forced the commentators to sit up and take notice.

In the end of the match on Thursday, a couple of data points from the standard list of 13 analytics that the IBM Watson AI assistant spits out speak to the gaps between the World Number 124 and World Number 2 in a match situation like we saw at the Arthur Ashe stadium: Points won on first and second serve.

Overall, Nagal got more first serves in (71 per cent) compared with Thiem’s 64 per cent. But Nagal won less than 6 in 10 points on his first serve and less than 4 in 10 points on his second serve. Of Nagal’s total of 4 double faults, three came close to each other in the first set.

Almost immediately, Nagal seemed to cut the speed on his first serve, began curving the toss towards his left shoulder and kicking his serve more, averaging 96 mph on his first serve through the first set and around 88 mph on his second serve in all three sets. Nagal slammed in a single ace in the entire match compared with Thiem’s seven.

Of a total of 46 points won on serve, Nagal won 36 of those off his first serve and 10 came from the second. Thiem won almost the same number of points as Nagal on his first serve but a total of 18 off his second serve alone across all three sets.

Nagal clocked an average first serve speed of 102 mph, Thiem’s came in at 113 mph. Nagal’s average second serve was at least 10mph less than Thiem’s. Nagal was unable to win a single point on his second serve in all of the second set.

At one level, Nagal took the pressure off his second serve by kicking in more first serves but what that also meant is that Thiem got a lot more chances to get more balls back, stay in the point and eventually outhit Nagal. Thiem and his coach Nicholas Massu have been working on precisely those kind of high returns during practice sessions, which Nagal served up for Thiem today: Lots of spin, bounce and generally tricky to handle, especially for Thiem who plays single handed backhands.

Massu, a former No. 9 on ATP Rankings knows a thing or two about that brand of tennis: He’s a clay courter from Chile, after all.

Against Thiem, Nagal’s serve didn’t function as a weapon, it played the role normally reserved for the second serve. It began points that delighted us, the online audience, but fell well short of sealing the big points.

The first serve as a match winner is a well loved theme richly documented in tennis history. The less told story is about what happens when top players lean towards a little more spin as a safety valve against top 10 players. That, ultimately, was the top takeaway from the Nagal-Thiem match.

For someone who didn’t know Nagal or Thiem’s world ranking, today’s match highlighted the promise and depth of Indian tennis. Watching Thiem on the ropes in the first set and standing almost 10 feet behind the baseline to return Nagal’s serve, you couldn’t tell that Nagal is ranked more than 100 spots below Thiem.

When Nagal began kicking his first serve in, the gap between the World Number 3 and World Number 124 split wide open.

“He’s very dangerous when he can dictate with his forehand. I was exactly trying to avoid that. He also has very, very fast legs. I was trying to play my fastest tennis to keep him on the backhand, to not let him dictate with the forehand. I did that very well today,” Thiem said of Nagal’s game.

With a first round win here, Nagal became the first Indian man to triumph in a Grand Slam singles match in seven years, since Somdev Devvarman in 2013.

Piyush Mishra: There’s a lot of ‘dadagiri’ in Bollywood

I am a bigger star than you. You didn’t stand up when I walked in. You didn’t seek my blessings. These are some of the emotions that rule Bollywood, says actor Piyush Mishra, who feels the industry is more about bullying than nepotism.

“I don’t think there is nepotism. If there was, it didn’t hinder my growth. It didn’t come in between me and any of my work, neither did it bring any problem in any of my agreements,” Piyush told IANS.

“Until and unless I did something foolish, nothing or no one tried to hinder my work. There have been one or two instances when I suffered because I didn’t read the contract properly. That was because of my lack of knowledge. Otherwise, wherever, I am today, it is because of my work and people have also accepted me,” he added.

Mishra, a National School of Drama (NSD) product, continued: “I don’t think there is nepotism, or at least I don’t know about it. There’s dadagiri (bullying) in the industry. Dadagiri bahut hai (there’s too much of ‘dadagiri’).”

“That ‘I am a bigger star’, ‘tumne humara ashirwad nahi liya (you didn’t seek my blessing), ‘you didn’t stand when I entered’ — these type of things exist,” he added.

When it comes to nepotism, the actor feels every father wants to give a good career to his child.

“Who doesn’t want to give his kid a flourishing career? But a lot of time people have a misunderstanding that ‘hum star hai toh humara beta bhi star hoga’ (I am a star so my kid will also be a star). That doesn’t happen,” said Mishra, who is seen in SonyLIV’s new original series, “JL50”.

“My father was a clerk. It is not necessary that if parents are artistes, their children will also be artistes. One should not burden kids with such expectations, and I don’t think it is right to give a readymade career to a kid. Dhoop mein tapna chahiye (one should be roasted in the sun). They should struggle to know how their parents reached the heights of stardom. Many artistes who get this type of stardom from their parents, regret in the future but by then it is too late. They end up being aadhe adhure (incomplete) stars,” said the accomplished actor.

In Bollywood, Mishra is known for his performances in films like “Maqbool”, “Gangs Of Wasseypur”, “Pink”, and as a lyricist in “Black Friday”, “Gulaal”, and “Aaja Nachle”.

Advantages of Playing on Minimum Deposit Casinos

0

You may have heard of low deposit casinos. These are sites where you can deposit as low as $1 and play games. Low deposit casinos usually have minimum deposits between $1 and $10. The most common alternatives are $2, $5, and $10. But what are the advantages of playing at a casino like this? There are plenty of them, so let’s start.

Gamblers can test a site

One of the most common advantages you can see here is the ability for a gambler to test a site. You can deposit $1 and browse the games, offerings, bonuses, licenses, payment methods, and all of that. Without a deposit, you can get an essential overall opinion. If you don’t do this, you may encounter a site that doesn’t support a payment method you want to use, for instance. It is a significant advantage for players who want to test 10 casinos and determine which one is the right place to gamble.

You can test a game as well

It is a variation of the first advantage. Players can test a game or games they want to play. Keep in mind that some demo games are not available so you will have to deposit funds and play for real money. If you deposit $50, you will have to spend them on a game you don’t like. Once you determine that a game is right for you, deposit more funds and enjoy it.

It is excellent for occasional gamblers

Let’s say that you play games occasionally. A player may enjoy casino games a few minutes per day or week. Those who deposit a high amount will need months or even years to meet wagering requirements and withdraw their winnings. Playing with a low deposit means that you can play whenever you like, without overthinking about withdrawals, wagering requirements or anything similar.

Casinos will offer bonus despite a low deposit amount

Although a gambler deposited $10 or even lower, the casino will provide a deposit match bonus. This is a welcome offer. It means that the casino will increase your available balance. If you deposit $10 and casino offers a 100% match, you will end up with $20 to play games. In other words, you have just got 100% higher odds to gamble and win in $20 minimum deposit casinos in India. It is rare, almost impossible not to find a casino with this type of welcome offer. Many of them even provide offers for the first four deposits.

Ideal for gamblers who carefully manage their balance

Most regular gamblers and all professionals are really specific about the budgets they have for gamblers. You may know that all strategies for Poker, Slots, and some other games use brilliant and simple balance techniques. What this means is that a player can have complete control over his winnings and losses. Some players gamble at low deposit casinos just for this reason. They want to use the lowest deposit to the max and to keep their balance at control.

You can still win real money

Despite the fact you are playing with $5 or less, you can still win real money. For instance, if you play slots, the spin cost between a few cents and $2. Add a welcome bonus that comes with free spins, and you can play a slot for quite some time. These are all odds which can give you a jackpot. If you know that a jackpot can reach million on particular slots, you can see how profitable it can be to play at minimum deposit casinos.

They don’t have drawbacks

Although this isn’t an advantage as the ones above, it must be mentioned. Minimum deposit casinos still offer bonuses, thousand games, licenses, and all the rest as a casino where the lowest deposit is $100. They are identical. But, you can play here with any budget you have. When ready, you can deposit a higher amount and continue to enjoy it. You can play according to your budget.

As you were able to see, minimum deposit casinos are excellent sites where you can play all casino games, enjoy amazing promotions, and so much more with extremely low investment. They do not have drawbacks, and they can be the best places to test your luck online.

Permanent hair dye may up cancer risk in women: Study

0

Women who use permanent hair dye products, kindly take note. Researchers have found that permanent hair dye can slightly increase the risk of some types of breast, skin, and ovarian cancer.

The study from Harvard University in the US, published in the journal The BMJ on Thursday, also revealed that natural hair color was also found to impact on the likelihood of some cancers.

The use of hair dye is very popular, particularly among older age groups keen to cover up signs of grey. For example, it is estimated that it is used by 50-80 percent of women and 10 percent of men aged 40 and older in the US and Europe.

While the World Health Organisation’s International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified occupational exposure to hair dyes as a probable carcinogen, there is no warning about personal use because existing evidence is inconclusive.

To gain a better understanding of the risk of cancer from the use of personal hair dye, researchers analyzed data on 117,200 women from the Nurses’ Health Study, which includes assessments of hair dye exposure.

The women did not have cancer at the start of the study and were followed for 36 years.

Ever use of permanent dyes was associated with a slightly increased risk of the basal cell carcinoma of the skin, and this risk was higher in women with naturally light hair.

The results showed an increased risk of three types of breast cancer — estrogen receptor-negative, progesterone receptor-negative, and hormone receptor-negative — and ovarian cancer was also linked to the use of permanent dyes, with risk rising according to the cumulative amount of dye women were exposed to.

An increased risk of Hodgkin lymphoma was also seen with the use of permanent hair dye but only for women with naturally dark hair.

“Possible explanations could be that shades of permanent hair dyes are associated with the concentration of ingredients, with darker colors having higher concentrations,” the study authors said.

However, the results showed no increased risk of most cancers or of cancer death in women who reported having ever used permanent hair dyes compared with those who had never used such dyes.

The authors also pointed to some limitations, including the lack of racial diversity of study participants and the possibility that other unmeasured factors, such as the use of other products, may have affected the results.

Nevertheless, the authors said their findings “offer some reassurance against concerns that personal use of permanent hair dyes might be associated with increased cancer risk or mortality.”

Kerala BJP alleges ‘forged’ signature of Vijayan in govt file

0

The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that the signature of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was ‘forged’ on a government file.

Speaking to the media here on Thursday, BJP leader Sandip Warrier said Vijayan had left for the US for his medical treatment on September 2, 2018.

“He returned to the state after his treatment on September 23rd. On September 3rd, a file from the general administration department regarding a function for promotion of Malayalam, according to the records, arrived at Vijayan’s office. On 9th September, this file was signed by Vijayan,” said Warrier.

“How can this happen, when Vijayan is in the US. This clearly shows that someone else has put Vijayan’s signature. The signature also is not an e-signature. So now we all want Vijayan to explain, who is putting his signature in his absence,” said Warrier.

Warrier also said this was an insignificant file, ‘but the mystery remains on who has put his signature’.

“The finisher’s role is very crucial for any hockey side and I am delighted that I have been given the opportunity to execute the chances created by my teammates. There is certainly a lot of pressure that comes with the job, but I have certainly enjoyed the challenge so far,” the 25-year-old said.

“I want to keep working hard on the techniques of finishing and hopefully, I will become the best finisher in the world one day. It’s amazing to be in a position to convert goal-scoring opportunities for the team.”

Navjot said that 2019 has been one of the crucial years for the team. India finished top of the table in Pool A and thus qualified for the Olympic qualifiers where they beat the USA 6-5 in two legs to qualify for Tokyo 2020.

“Being part of the Bronze Medal and Silver Medal-winning teams at the Asian Games 2014 and 2018 respectively has to be on the top of the list, however, 2019 was one of the most crucial years for us,” she said.

SSR case: Ex-top cops rally to defend Mumbai Police

In an unprecedented gesture, eight retired IPS officers have rallied together on behalf of the Mumbai Police to save its reputation being maligned in the ongoing high-profile probe into late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case and the subsequent “media trial”.

The eight former officers — who held top positions in the Maharashtra Police — have filed public interest litigation in the Bombay High Court seeking directions to halt the “unfair, malicious and false media campaign” against the Mumbai Police in the matter.

The petitioners are M.N. Singh, P.S. Pasricha, D.N. Jadhav, D. Shivanandan, Sanjeev Dayal, K. Subramaniam, S.C. Mathur and K.P. Raghuvanshi — all Directors-General level at the time of their retirement and enjoying an envious reputation.

Home Minister Anil Deshmukh lauded the move by the retired IPS officers on Thursday.

“Maharashtra and Mumbai Police have a reputation. They are compared to the Scotland Yard… The manner in which Mumbai Police was targeted in the (Sushant) case, I welcome the PIL,” Deshmukh told media persons.

Filed through a prominent law firm, Crawford, Bayley & Company’s Senior Advocate Milind Sathe, the PIL has named the Union and State Governments, Press Council of India, and News Broadcasters Association, and is expected to come up for hearing shortly.

Among other things, the petitioners have sought guidelines or instructions for the media houses, whether print, electronic, radio, Internet or television or any other form, to refrain from publishing and circulating any false, derogatory, and scandalous comments, social media posts, news stories, etc, that could jeopardize the police’s reputation and may cause the people to lose faith in the system and the police administration, or hinder the cause of administration of justice.

They have also urged for instructions on “ethical reporting” and responsible journalism, constant monitoring by the relevant authorities, and action in case any media house violates the same.

The PIL referred to some TV channels attempting to influence the course of investigations carried out by the Central agencies through their biased reporting and false propaganda, which has created “an air of suspicion” in the minds of the people both on the facts of the (Sushant) case and also about the Mumbai Police, the health services and other support services in the state.

They pointed out that Mumbai Police is one of the oldest forces in India which has always enjoyed “a very high reputation for professional competence and public service” and any malicious or irresponsible attempts to run it down are not in the public interest.

While the PIL fully supported the role of freedom of the press, speech, and expression as an important ingredient of democracy and rule of law, they expressed grave concern over the trend in media reporting, especially TV channels, and felt it needed to be checked through suitable court directives or comprehensive guidelines.

Most Indian banking apps lag behind in functionality: Report

0

Despite the renewed push for digital due to the Covid-19 pandemic, most Indian mobile banking apps, except ICICIs iMobile app, are behind the curve on functionality, says a new report from market research firm Forrester.

About 70 percent of Indian online adults with a bank account do their banking on a mobile app or website using their smartphone, show data from Forrester.

However, compared with 2019, banks have improved their user experience only marginally and lag behind in functionality, said the report which evaluated the smartphone apps of five banks in India — Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and State Bank of India (SBI).

For the study, the researchers scored banks’ mobile apps on 39 functionality and 24 user experience criteria.

“While banks have been focusing on improving UX (user experience), they do not give equal attention to all aspects of it. ICICI Bank does a good job of streamlining payment experiences but can do better at error prevention,” said the report.

“Axis Bank offers clutter-free visual design and clear content but lacks help pages. HDFC Bank helps customers prevent errors and shares privacy information upfront but falters with unclear language and marketing material that impedes progress,” it added.

Kotak Mahindra Bank does well with its chatbot but stumbles with poor search, the research showed.

“SBI offers good content around spending patterns but fails to provide sufficient privacy and security cues and content,” according to the report titled “The Forrester Digital Experience Review: Indian Mobile Banking Apps, Q3 2020”.

The results showed that the functionality scores of four banks fell.

Functionality scores of ICICI Bank, which emerged as the overall digital experience leader, remained unchanged, said the report.

7 more US soldiers in S.Korea test Covid-19 positive

0

Seven more American soldiers in South Korea have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the US Forces Korea (USFK) said on Thursday.

The USFK said in a statement that seven service members were infected after arriving in South Korea between August 15-29, reports Xinhua news agency.

Three service members arrived at the Osan Air Base on US government-chartered flights on August 17, 19, and 28.

The Osan Air Base is located in Pyeongtaek, 70 km south of Seoul.

The four others arrived at Incheon International Airport, west of Seoul, aboard commercial flights on August 15, 17, 28, and 29.

The patients have been transferred to designated isolation facilities at Camp Humphreys or the Osan Air Base, both in Pyeongtaek.

The total number of infections among the USFK-affiliated personnel has increased to 175, according to the Yonhap news agency.

An Indian firm to deploy at least 10 Cloud platforms by 2023: IBM

0

Business executives in India are increasingly planning to invest in Hybrid multi-Cloud platforms and by 2023, an Indian firm will deploy at least 10 Clouds particularly in the growing insurance, telecommunications, and retail industries, and IBM survey said on Thursday.

The value derived from Hybrid, multi-Cloud platform technology, and operating model at scale is 2.5 times the value derived from a single platform, single Cloud vendor.

“Public Cloud spend will reduce from 50 percent today to 43 percent by 2023,” said the IBM Institute for Business Value (IBV) survey.

According to the findings, organizations in the country will spend nearly half of their Cloud budget on Hybrid over the next three years.

Currently, they allocate 17 percent of their IT spend to Cloud and plan to increase the share of spend on Hybrid from 42 percent to 49 percent by 2023.

“Hybrid Cloud enables an improved business performance and greater ROI (return on investment). This is proven in the instance of leading businesses that have successfully achieved demonstrable competitive advantage through robust hybrid cloud management and governance platforms,” said Viswanath Ramaswamy, Vice President, IBM Cloud and Cognitive Software and Services, IBM India/South Asia.

In India, leading businesses such as Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea are achieving business transformation by leveraging Hybrid multi-Cloud platform technology and embedding AI.

“We are betting big on Hybrid Cloud which is secure, interoperable, open and free from vendor lock-in,” he said.

The survey was conducted by IBM in collaboration with Oxford Economics and covered 6,000 executives globally including 412 executives from India.

Globally, 64 percent of advanced cloud companies recognize the need for enterprise transformation and application modernization to go hand-in-hand, 2.6 times higher than the respondents from India.

“Globally, 68 percent of businesses on advanced cloud journeys are building an open-source cloud platform, compared to 46 percent of India respondents,” the findings showed.

Nearly 31 percent of IT executives in India say they are seeking Cloud Management Platforms for improved visibility and to control their cloud costs.

“Enterprises in India are seeking an application development platform that can run on any cloud, workloads that can execute seamlessly across multiple clouds,” it said.

NASA test-fires SLS rocket booster for future lunar missions

0

In preparation for the future Artemis missions to the Moon, NASA has completed a full-scale booster test for the agency’s Space Launch System (SLS) rocket.

NASA and Northrop Grumman, the SLS booster lead contractor, will use data from the test, successfully conducted on Wednesday, to evaluate the motor’s performance using potential new materials and processes that can be incorporated into future boosters, the US space agency said.

“Landing the first woman and the next man on the Moon is just the beginning of NASA’s Artemis Programme,” NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine, said in a statement.

“The SLS flight support booster firing is a crucial part of sustaining missions to the Moon. NASA’s goal is to take what we learn living and working on the Moon and use it to send humans on the first missions to Mars.”

The SLS boosters are the largest, most powerful boosters ever built for flight, according to NASA.

The two boosters on the rocket provide more than 75 percent of the thrust needed to launch NASA’s future deep-space missions through the Artemis lunar program.

NASA and Northrop Grumman have previously completed three development motor tests and two qualification motor tests.

“NASA is simultaneously making progress on assembling and manufacturing the solid rocket boosters for the first three Artemis missions and looking ahead toward missions beyond the initial Moon landing,” said John Honeycutt, the SLS Program Manager at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

“Today marks the first flight support booster test to confirm the rocket motor’s performance using potential new materials for Artemis IV and beyond.”

NASA is working to land the first woman and next man on the Moon by 2024.

The SLS rocket, Orion spacecraft, Gateway, and human landing system are part of NASA’s backbone for deep space exploration.

SLS is the only rocket that can send Orion, astronauts, and supplies to the Moon in a single mission, NASA said.

Sushant’s billboard removed in Hollywood, sister Shweta blames ‘paid PR’

A billboard in Hollywood that was set up to campaign for justice for Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput has been pulled down, and his sister Shweta Singh Kirti has claimed that paid PR working against the campaign is behind the act.

Shweta took to Instagram and shared a snapshot of mail exchange between the American billboard company in question and her.

In the mail, the company stated: “The team had not done their research on what the campaign was regarding. It is their interpretation that this is a smear campaign of the woman that is “associated” with Sushant.”

Although the company did not name her, the “woman” in question seems to be Rhea Chakraborty, Sushant’s girlfriend. The “smear campaign” they seem to be referring to could be about an FIR that the late actor’s family has filed against Rhea and her family, accusing them with abetment to Sushant’s suicide among other charges. A few days ago, a leaked video actually had Sushant and Shweta’s father KK Singh claiming Rhea was Sushant’s murderer and should be arrested.

The mail continued: “(Company name struck off) is choosing to cut ties with any involvement of the campaign. You will be given a refund for the days remaining. Thank you.”

Shweta replied saying: “Okay, In that case, I will be expecting a full reimbursement for the week of September 1-6. Additionally, I assume you are willing to go on record with this statement. as I will be required to share it with my donors as an explanation for why the billboard is no longer up. Thanks.

Expressing her disapproval, Shweta captioned the snapshot on Instagram: “It seems the paid PR has it reaches everywhere. Hollywood Billboard company reached out telling they will not keep the Billboard any longer! The wordings on the billboard only demanded fair trial and justice! #Report4SSR #JusticeForSushantSinghRajputt #Warriors4SSR”

Billboards campaigning for justice for Sushant were put up all over the US including New Jersey and Chicago.

Sushant was found dead in his Bandra flat on June 14. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is probing the death.

Telugu v/s English in Andhra schools: SC declines to stay HC order

The Supreme Court on Thursday declined an interim stay on an Andhra Pradesh High Court order quashing its decision making compulsory for students of government schools to study in English medium from Class 1 to 6 in the ongoing academic year.

The apex court will hear arguments on this on the next date of hearing three weeks later.

A bench comprising Justices D.Y. Chandrachud, K.M. Joseph and Indu Malhotra noted that Section 29(2)(f) of the Act says the medium should be in the mother tongue “so far as it is applicable” unless not possible, and it seems the High Court had considered this.

Senior advocate K.V. Viswanathan, appearing for the state government, argued that the government’s decision is a progressive measure and sought a stay on the High Court order.

He submitted before the bench that nothing in the Right to Education Act, which says that the medium has to be in the mother tongue. Viswanathan said the government undertook a survey and the majority of parents desire English medium.

Senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayan, who is on caveat, opposed the stay on the High Court and submitted that the state should be fostering its mother tongue. Sankaranarayan argued that the choice is being taken away from parents and children, as Telugu speaking schools are being replaced with English medium.

Viswanathan reiterated that the top court should stay the High Court order. The bench allowed Sankaranarayan to file a reply and declined to stay the High Court order.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court had on April 15 struck down the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy-government’s decision making English medium mandatory and termed the order “unconstitutional and violative of several Acts, including the Right to Education Act”.

The government had issued the orders on November 20, 2019.
