Actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas has posted an Instagram note to celebrate her mother-in-law Denise Jonas’ birthday.

“Happy Birthday MamaJ! Thank you for your constant grace and generosity. I’m So glad you are here and we can celebrate you today together. Love you so much. @mamadjonas @nickjonas,” wrote Priyanka, along with an image where she is seen with Denise.

Priyanka’s husband and American pop singer Nick Jonas also posted a photograph of himself with his mother on Instagram and captioned it: “Love you, mom. Happy birthday!”

Nick and Priyanka got married in over a series of ceremonies over three days in India in December of 2018. They later hosted multiple receptions for friends and family.

On the work front, Priyanka will be seen in “The White Tiger”, an upcoming Netflix adaptation where she features with Adarsh Gourav and Rajkummar Rao. The film is based on Aravind Adiga’s Man Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name and directed by Iranian filmmaker Ramin Bahrani.

Twenty-six staff members of Bollywood veteran Amitabh Bachchan have tested negative for Covid-19.

Big B and his son, actor Abhishek Bachchan, tested COVID positive on Saturday night and were admitted to Nanavati hospital. While Abhishek’s wife, actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and their daughter Aaradhya were confirmed COVID positive on Sunday, Amitabh Bachchan’s wife Jaya Bachchan has tested negative.

Around 54 people had come in contact with the Bachchan family, out of which 28 have been quarantined. At the Bachchans’ residence in Jalsa, 26 people were said to be at high risk. Their swab tests were done on Sunday and their Covid-19 reports have come out as negative. The 26 staff members have been kept in quarantine for two weeks, reports zeenews.india.com.

Using his verified Twitter account, Amitabh on Sunday expressed gratitude to fans, well-wishers, and colleagues for showering concern and prayers, after he and his family members tested Covid-19 positive.

Covid-19, gas price crash may push back PLL’s $2.5-bn deal with Tellurian

In what may be a big casualty of Covid-19 related market disruptions, India’s Petronet LNG Ltd. may push back its $2.5 billion investment plan in US LNG developer Tellurian’s upcoming Driftwood LNG terminal in Louisiana.

Government sources said that with spot LNG prices now crashing to about $2 per million British thermal unit (mmBtu) and gas widely available in the market, it would make little sense to sign an agreement committing to pay on sea price of $3.5 to $4.5 per mmBtu for 40 years for the gas. The delivered price of gas would be even higher.

The deal would have to be renegotiated given the current market prices, sources said.

In September last year, a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between PLL and Tellurian that gave the Indian entity PLL the option to buy 5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) LNG from Tellurian’s Driftwood project on the banks of the Calcasieu River in Louisiana. In return, Petronet was to spend $2.5 billion for an 18% equity stake in the $28 billion Driftwood LNG terminal.

The term of the MoU was to expire on March 31, 2020, which was extended to May 31 in February. But with the expiry of the second deadline for converting the MoU into a definitive agreement, doubts have surfaced whether the deal, which also saw the involvement of top government functionaries for both India and the US, will go through.

“The Tellurian deal is still under board consideration and cannot comment now. MoU has expired but may be extended. The status will be known this year,” PLL said during an analyst call last month.

But government sources said that neither PLL nor Tellurian has had talks on extending the terms of the MoU or signing an agreement on earlier agreed terms so far and if the deal is salvaged it would be based on the renegotiation of the gas price and investment terms.

As a test to determine gas prices available on a long-term contract basis now, PLL recently invited bids for one million tonnes per annum of LNG for 10 years. It asked bidders to quote a price below Japan/Korea Marker (JKM) that takes the price on the long term as well as closer to spot prices. Though Tellurian placed its bid for the supply contract, it did not qualify from a list of 13 other suppliers.

The Tellurian deal, if concluded, will be the first long-term LNG deal under the Modi government since 2014. The previous long-term gas supply deals were signed before 2014. The deal for 7.5 mtpa of LNG from Qatar, 1.44 mtpa from Australia, 2.2 mtpa from Russia, and 5.8 mtpa from the US was concluded by the previous UPA government. The landed price of some of the earlier concluded long-term LNG supply deals is higher at $9-$10 per mmBtu that is being renegotiated by PLL now.

Under the Tellurian deal, the first set of gas from the Driftwood project would reach Indian shores only by FY24.

As per analyst presentations given by Tellurian, the first phase of the 27.6 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) Driftwood project will be able to deliver LNG only in 2023. This would have meant that Petronet would have to wait for the LNG under a long term contract from the US project for four long years. The wait is long given competitively priced LNG is available in plenty in the spot market to meet the immediate energy needs of the country.

The Driftwood project is a proposed LNG terminal where actual construction work is yet to start. Though Tellurian has appointed Bechtel as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) partner for the project, it is still waiting for investment commitments from partners for starting construction work. So far only French energy major Total has committed to invest $500 million in the project for 2 mtpa of LNG.

Sources said of the 5 mtpa proposed contracted quantity, Petronet may not get even full capacity from the first phase 11 mtpa Driftwood project to be ready for delivery by 2023. As the US project is proposed to be constructed in four phases, sources said full capacity may not be reached before 2030. By then the gas market may be looking a lot different and could make Petronet’s investment unproductive.

For Petronet, another issue of concern would be mobilizing the huge investment commitment of $ 2.5 billion for Driftwood. With cash and reserves of just over Rs 8,500 crore, it would have to look at other means of funding its US investment commitment. The Government could either rope in more PSUs to fund the project with Petronet or permit it to tap the overseas market to raise cheap funds.

Tellurian is selling 51 percent holding in Driftwood to third parties while it itself would retain 49 percent stake or control over 13.6 mtpa of LNG. Tellurian expects to generate $8 per share cash flow from the project.

Railways on track to go green by 2030 with many initiatives

In a bid to make itself carbon-free by 2030, the Indian Railways has initiated a number of major initiatives to mitigate global warming and combat climate change.

In a statement, a railways spokesperson said here that it has completed electrification of more than 40,000 route km (RKM), which is 63 percent of the broad- gauge routes, in which 18,605 km electrification has been done during 2014-20.

It said that previously, only 3,835 km of electrification work was completed during 2009-14. The spokesperson said that the railways has fixed a target of electrification of 7,000 RKM for 2020-21.

“All routes on the broad-gauge network have been planned to be electrified by December 2023. Indian Railways is focusing on the electrification of the last-mile connectivity and missing links. With this in mind, 365 km of major connectivity work has been commissioned during the Covid-19 period,” he said.

The official said that during the nationwide lockdown, the railways commissioned 99 RKM Katni-Satna section of the Mumbai-Howrah route via Allahabad, thus providing an alternate route to Howrah.

Similarly, 88 RKM of the Pachore-Maksi section on the Indore-Guna-Bina route has also been commissioned, providing an alternate route to Maksi-Bhopal-Bina.

He said that on the Howrah/Sealdah-SVD Katra via Patna route, 45 RKM of Bhagalpur-Shivnarayanpur section has been commissioned.

The official said that the railways have also taken a number of initiatives to promote solar energy.

“The Indian Railways is working to harness the potential of 500 Mega Watt (MW) energy through rooftop Solar panels and to date, solar plants with 100-MW capacity have been commissioned on rooftops of various buildings including 900 rail stations,” he said.

“Solar plants with a combined capacity of 400 MW are under different stages of execution. Tenders are already awarded for 245 MW and the target for the completion of these plants is December 2022,” the official said.

The railways, which has over 51,000 hectares of the land pool, is trying to produce power from land-based solar installations for running trains.

The 51,000 hectares hold the potential to set up 20 GW land-based solar plants. The solar power so generated will be fed to a central or state grid or directly to a 25 kV AC traction system.

“The Railway Energy Management Company Limited (REMCL), a Joint Venture Company of Indian Railways (49% equity) and RITES Limited (51% equity) have been mandated to take up land-based projects,” he said.

The official pointed out that one project of 1.7 MW at Bina in Madhya Pradesh in collaboration with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has been installed and is under extensive testing. “This is the first-of-its-kind solar project in the world,” he said.

Initially, as regards the land-based solar projects, the railways have taken up a 3-GW solar project in three phases.

In the wind energy sector, 103-MW wind-based power plants have already been commissioned, including a 26-MW plant in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer, 21-MW plant in Tamil Nadu and 56.4-MW plant in Maharashtra’s Sangli.

The coming together of ATK and Mohun Bagan will not only help Indian football stride forward but it will also attract further global attention to the sport in the country, feels former England defender Russell Osman.

Indian Super League (ISL) champions ATK and I-League winners Mohun Bagan had announced in January that they would merge into one entity that would compete in the ISL from 2020-21 season slated to start in the third week of November.

ATK Mohun Bagan Pvt. Ltd. announced, in a press release last Friday, that their board had unanimously decided to retain the iconic green and maroon jersey which has been synonymous with the 131 years legacy of Mohun Bagan. The name of the club will be changed to ATK Mohun Bagan while the logo will have the Mohun Bagan boat with the addition of ‘ATK’ to it.

“From everybody’s point of view, this is a very positive move. For the ISL, it can only be a good thing. The history of the club is magnificent, Mohun Bagan,” Osman told IANS in an interview.

“Mohun Bagan has been synonymous with Kolkata. The green and maroon is a unique kit and a lot of people worldwide will have seen and recognized it. For them to actually come together with ATK and the success they have in ISL with three wins to their name…it can only be a good thing,” said the 61-year old who has played for Ipswich Town, Leicester City, Southampton, Bristol City, and Brighton & Hove Albion among other clubs in English football.

Osman, who is now an ISL pundit, added that with the league slated to take place behind closed doors this year, it would be unfortunate for the scores of fans who would be dying to see ATK-Mohun Bagan in action.

“It’s a shame that this season has been delayed. A lot of people wanted to see ATK-Mohun Bagan…their first home game…also playing in empty stadiums is a shame. Every home game would have been a full house. But when you look at the success they have (both), this new club shows how it has been put together. I can only see it being a very very good thing for Indian football. It will help the Indian game worldwide. It is now setting a way for everybody else.”

Last year, City Football Group (CFG) acquired a majority stake in its eighth club, Mumbai City FC. Osman said the ATK-Mohun Bagan marriage will further spread the brand of Indian football across the globe.

“City Football Group have taken Mumbai City so Indian football is going global. So Indian football has attracted their attention. Now, this ATK-Mohun Bagan merger will only take this outlook forward,” he added.

Speaking about FC Goa taking part in the AFC Champions League group stages, with ATK Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru FC playing in the AFC Cup group stages and play-offs respectively, he said: “I think all the stakeholders, eight clubs originally and now the ten clubs, they all deserve to give themselves a pat on the back.

“Nita Ambani, obviously the chairperson of FSDL, Martin Bain, they are all trying to push the business forward as much as they can. And I think they have got more people on their side than against them now. And you just hope that the momentum that the AFC is injecting, the Champions League position for FC Goa, which they thoroughly deserve because they have been a fantastic team over the last couple of years, keeps going.

“ATK Mohun Bagan will also get to play the AFC Cup, which is great. It is a recognition that things are being done right. If they weren’t being done right, they would not get the places.”

Indian mobile handset brand Lava on Monday extended the deadline of its ‘Design in India’ contest till July 18. The decision has been taken owing to a large number of requests from all over the country for the extension of registrations.

The applicants who missed the opportunity to register earlier can now participate in the contest by Lava which has challenged students and working professionals to design the next #ProudlyIndian smartphone.

“Keeping a large number of requests in mind, we have now extended the deadline to give another chance to people who could not participate earlier. We will reach out to the participants with further updates once all the registrations are over,” Tejinder Singh, Head- Product, Lava said in a statement.

The Design in India contest was rolled out on July 2 with an initial registration deadline of July 9. The contest is open for students of B.Tech, B.E, B.Des and M.Des and engineering professionals from ECE, IT, CS, Mech, and Industrial Design departments.

Students or professionals can choose to participate in the contest in groups of 1-3 and in the end, the top three teams will get a pre-placement interview opportunity at Lava. Additionally, they will receive a cash prize of Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000, and Rs 15,000 respectively.

Lava in May announced to shift its entire mobile R&D, design and manufacturing for the export market from China to India within the next six months, announcing to invest overall nearly Rs 800 crore in the due course of time.

Lava exports over 33 percent of its phones to markets such as Mexico, Africa, Southeast Asia, and West Asia.

As part of the transition, Lava will invest around Rs 80 crore this year and subsequently around Rs 800 crore over the next five years.

“We all know when Shannon is fit and healthy, he is a handful and he proved it in this game.”

Meanwhile, the 33-year-old pacer said that he was never doubtful about his fitness. “I wasn’t doubtful about my fitness. I knew I would play. I knew the work that I put in would take care of itself,” Gabriel, who was adjudged the Man of the Match, said.

“I am still a bit stiff, but there are a few days to recover for the next Test match.

“The guys were confident coming here after the win in the Caribbean last year, and we knew if we prepared well, we would be able to perform,” he added.

Telangana Raj Bhavan staff tested positive for Covid-19

Over 38 staff members in Telangana Raj Bhavan along with 10 of their family members tested positive for Covid-19. However, Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and her family members tested negative for the Coronavirus and she tweeted about the same. She encouraged people in red zones to undergo tests.

Of the 38 staff members, 28 are security personnel and 10 from other departments in the Governor’s office.

The medical personnel collected swab samples of a total of 39 people, including the Governor and the staff. While 48 tested positive, the remaining 347 tested negative.

The health officials sent 20 of the positive patients to Government Ayurveda Hospital while the remaining were advised to go for home quarantine.

With the number of positive cases increasing by the day in Telangana, Soundararajan, who is a medical doctor herself, monitored the Covid-19 pandemic situation in the state. She visited NIMS and even held discussion with the managements of private healthcare facilities recently.

She also called for Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and principal secretary (health) to meet her to enquire about the existing conditions and the precautions being taken to handle the crisis.

In June, six employees of the AP Raj Bhavan tested positive for the virus and all of them have recovered. However, AP Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan tested negative for Covid-19.

Nelson Mandela’s daughter passes away

Zindzi Mandela, the daughter of South Africa’s anti-apartheid icons Nelson Mandela and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, died here on Monday, according to the country’s public broadcaster SABC reported.

She died on Monday morning aged 59, the BBC quoted the SABC as saying citing a family member as saying

Zindzi Mandela was the South African ambassador to Denmark at the time of her death.

The cause of her death was not immediately revealed.

“The 59-year-old daughter of former president Nelson Mandela and struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, passed away at a Johannesburg hospital in the early hours of this morning,” said SABC.

She was Nelson Mandela’s sixth child and his second with Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.

The New Zealand women’s cricket team regrouped for their first camp in Lincoln on Monday after coronavirus pandemic put a halt to sport in the country in March.

The social media handle of the White Ferns announced the news on social media and their post read: “We are back! Our 1st post lockdown camp is underway in Lincoln. “I think if we are stuck with traditional formats, we’d be missing out on a lot of new players, new kids, new athletes to the game,” Devine, who was New Zealand’s highest run-getter at this year’s T20 World Cup, was quoted as saying by ICC last month.

“So, I think it’s really an exciting idea to say that we might be able to encourage people along that make it tailored towards the female side of things.

“It’s always good to have a little trial and error and see what works. I’m probably a big fan of looking at a smaller ball, but keeping the pitch the same size, where I think pacers are going to be able to bowl quicker, spinners are going be able to turn the ball more,” she added.

“Hopefully, the ball should fly a bit further as well whereas still keeping the traditional length of the pitch.”

UP Assembly’s monsoon session from August 20

The monsoon session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly will be held from August 20, official sources said on Monday.

The session is expected to have around four sittings in which the first supplementary budget of the current fiscal 2020-21 and around a dozen bills, for which ordinances have been promulgated when the Houses were not in session, will be passed.

The session will be held by observing social distancing and other health protocols.

Assembly officials said that the new norms and guidelines to be followed will be approved at an all-party meeting.

Legislators will be seated at a sufficient distance, and some may even be shifted to the visitors’ gallery.

Passes for the press galleries will also be curtailed for this session.

The state government is under a constitutional obligation to hold the monsoon session since there cannot be a gap of six months or more between two sessions of the Assembly.

The Assembly’s Budget Session was adjourned sine die on February 28 and hence the next session will have to be called before August 28.

Last month, Speaker Hriday Narain Dikshit had indicated that the monsoon session could be held through videoconference. He had, however, ruled out the possibility of holding a ‘hybrid session’ on the lines of the British Parliament.

In such a session, half of the members attend the House while the rest join the proceedings through videoconference.

“Due to technical reasons, such a session will not be possible. We will have a normal session, but with restrictions,” said an official.

Glenmark cuts Fabiflu price by 27%

Glenmark Pharmaceuticals has announced that it has commenced a Post Marketing Surveillance (PMS) study on FabiFlu to closely monitor the efficacy and safety of the drug in 1000 COVID patients that are prescribed with the oral antiviral.

Further, Glenmark has announced a price reduction of 27 percent for FabiFlu. The new MRP is Rs 75 per tab from the earlier Rs 103 per tab.

The price reduction has been made possible through benefits gained from higher yields and better scale, as both the API and formulations are made at Glenmark’s facilities in India, the benefits of which are being passed on to patients in the country.

Glenmark has successfully developed the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) and the formulation for FabiFlu through its own in-house R&D team within the country, ensuring self-reliance with regard to long term production and manufacturing.

Commenting on these developments, Alok Malik, Senior Vice President & Head – India business, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals said, “We expect this post-marketing surveillance study to shed more light on the drug’s clinical effectiveness and safety in a large cohort of patients prescribed FabiFlu. Our priority from the start of this pandemic has been to offer patients in India an effective treatment for COVID-19, while also ensuring access to the masses.

“Our internal research shows us that we launched FabiFlu in India at the lowest market cost as compared to the cost of Favipiravir in other countries where it is approved. And now we hope that this further price reduction will make it even more accessible for patients across the country.”

Despite investing significantly in R&D, clinical trials, and the manufacturing of FabiFlu (API and formulations), Glenmark has managed to keep the pricing of FabiFlu lower as compared to its price in other countries.

FabiFlu in India was originally launched at Rs 103 per tablet, while, its price in Indian Rupees is higher in the remaining countries like Rs 600 in Russia, Rs 378 in Japan, Rs 350 in Bangladesh and Rs 215 in China.

On June 20, Glenmark announced that it received manufacturing and marketing approval from India’s drug regulator for FabiFlu, making it the first oral Favipiravir-approved medication in India for the treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19.

The manufacturing and marketing approval was granted as part of the accelerated approval process, considering the emergency situation of the COVID-19 outbreak in India. The approval’s restricted use entails responsible medication use where every patient must have signed informed consent before treatment initiation.

With rising diesel prices more trouble for transport sector

An unexpected rise in diesel prices despite slower demand has put the transport sector at a big disadvantage as rising fuel cost has further shrunk its margins.

With 11 paise hike in diesel price in New Delhi on Monday, while petrol prices remained steady, the gap between the two auto fuels has further widened in the national capital. Last month, diesel prices overtook that of petrol in the national capital in an unprecedented development.

Diesel was priced at Rs 81.05 per liter on Monday in the capital, higher than the previous level of Rs 80.94 a liter. Petrol prices, however, remained unchanged at Rs 80.43 a liter, the same level as of June 29 when it’s pump price rose marginally by five paise over previous days price.

Along with the Capital, diesel prices marginally increased in other metro cities as well, but there the price of transportation fuel is still between Rs 6-8 per liter lower than petrol.

Oil companies began the daily revision of the two auto fuels from June 7 after keeping the price unchanged for the last 82 days during the Covid-19 related lockdown. Since then petrol and diesel prices have increased by Rs 9.5 – Rs 11.5 per liter respectively. Last week petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged for four days before diesel prices increasing on Sunday and again on Monday.

Six more corona deaths, 616 new cases in Odisha

Six more persons died of COVID-19 in Odisha took its death toll due to the virus to 70, even as 616 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours in the state, the Health Department said on Monday.

The state’s total coronavirus cases increased to 13,737, including 4,896 active cases.

Of the six deaths, four were reported from Ganjam district, and two from Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

Of the new cases, 415 were from different quarantine centers and 201 local contacts, the department said.

Priyanka slams UP government on increasing corona cases

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Monday slammed the Uttar Pradesh government over the ‘rising’ numbers of coronavirus cases in the state.

She reeled out statistics to say that the number of cases was 1,347 on July 10, 1,403 on July 11 and 1,388 on July 12.

“To hide its failure, the government is playing while the disease is growing,” said the Congress leader.

Uttar Pradesh on Sunday had 35,092 coronavirus cases, including 11,490 active cases. As many as 22,689 patients have recovered while 913 deaths have been reported due to coronavirus.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has decided to introduce a ‘mini-lockdown’ in the state on weekends to check the spread of coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh.

A government release said that all offices, markets and commercial establishments will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays. “Sanitization of these places will take place on the weekdays and people will be required to follow all safety protocols.

Chinese smartphone brand Vivo has announced that it is going to launch a premium flagship smartphone Vivo X50 series in the Indian market on July 16.

The company is promoting this upcoming smartphone lineup by claiming the smartphone to be the “future of smartphone pro-photography.”

The series was launched in China last month with three models – the Vivo X50, Vivo X50 Pro, and Vivo X50 Pro+. However, the smartphone maker had earlier confirmed that only the Vivo X50 and Vivo X50 Pro models would be launched in India.

The Vivo X50 and X50 Pro features the same 6.56-inch fullHD+ (2376A-1080 pixels) display with a 90Hz refresh rate and are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor which is clubbed with Adreno 620 GPU, 8GB RAM, and 128GB/256GB storage.

Both smartphones were launched with Android 10 OS layered with Fun Touch OS 10 UI and houses a 32MP front-facing camera.

The two smartphones differ in terms of rear camera setup and battery. While the Vivo X50 houses a quad-camera setup of 48MP+ 13MP+8MP+5MP. As for the Vivo X50 Pro, the handset houses a 48MP+8MP+8MP +13MP.

The Vivo X50 comes backed by a 4,200mAh battery, whereas the Pro variant of the handset houses a 4,315mAh battery.

India worst hit by public Cloud security incidents: Survey

Public Cloud security incidents hit India the hardest in the last year with 93 percent of the country’s organizations experiencing such an issue, said a survey of 26 nations by cybersecurity company Sophos on Monday.

The cybersecurity incidents that Indian organizations suffered most included ransomware (53 percent) and other malware (49 percent), exposed data (49 percent), compromised accounts (48 percent), and crypto-jacking (36 percent), said the report titled “The State of Cloud Security 2020”

Europeans suffered the lowest percentage of security incidents in the Cloud, an indicator that compliance with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) guidelines are helping to protect organizations from being compromised.

India is yet to enforce a data protection law.

“Ransomware, not surprisingly, is one of the most widely reported cybercrimes in the public Cloud,” Chester Wisniewski, Principal Research Scientist at Sophos said in a statement.

“The recent increase in remote working provides extra motivation to disable Cloud infrastructure that is being relied on more than ever, so it’s worrisome that many organizations still don’t understand their responsibility in securing Cloud data and workloads,” Wisniewski said.

“Cloud security is a shared responsibility, and organizations need to carefully manage and monitor Cloud environments in order to stay one step ahead of determined attackers.”

Accidental exposure continues to plague organizations, with misconfigurations exploited in 44 percent of reported attacks on Indian organizations.

Additionally, more than 55 percent of Indian businesses reported that cybercriminals gained access through stolen Cloud provider account credentials, said the report.

Despite this, only 29 percent said managing access to Cloud accounts is a top area of concern.

With 76 percent of organizations using the public Cloud, detection and response are leading Cloud security concerns for Indian IT managers while data security remains a top concern globally for businesses.

The report is based on an independent survey involving more than 3,500 IT managers across 26 countries in Europe, the Americas, Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa that currently host data and workloads in the public Cloud.
