People all around the world have been affected by the novel coronavirus outbreak. Amid this time of panic, news of people, especially the elderly beating Covid-19 has been popping up on the internet.We recently came across the story of a 104-year-old woman from Minnesota, USA who fought the novel virus and emerged victorious.

Vera Muller has been staying in Sauer Health Care Home in Winona, Minnesota for 13 years. She was diagnosed with Covid-19 on March 25 after showing symptoms including cough, fever and nausea two days after her birthday.Vera’s family used to visit her regularly. They used to gather around her window at the health care home to keep her in good spirits and her morale up while she recovered. They even used to speak to Vera on the phone, her son Bob Muller told the Winona Daily News.

Even for her birthday, Vera’s family was not able to celebrate in person but everyone including her friends from the church gathered around her window and rang in her birthday on March 23.Across the globe, 20,63,161 novel coronavirus-positive cases have been recorded. In the USA, 6,41,919 people have been tested positive and over 28,000 deaths have been recorded. In India, the number of Covid-19 positive cases has crossed the 12,000 mark with over 400 fatalities.

The actor-politician is all set to tie the knot with his fiancee, Revathi on April 17 in the presence of his family members.At the time when celebrities and commoners are postponing their wedding dates due to the crisis, the couple has decided to host the wedding at their Ramanagara farmhouse in Bengaluru.

Initially, both families had plans to host a grand ceremony by inviting popular personalities. However, due to the lockdown, they have restricted the guest-list and it will be an intimate affair.Reports suggest that the wedding will happen at 10 am and the celebrations have already begun. Their family is also planning to host a gala reception in Bengaluru once the lockdown ends.

Nikhil, who is the son of former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy and grandson of former Prime Minister HD Devegowda, got engaged to Revathi in February at a plush hotel in Bengaluru. The couple was blessed by their families, friends and various leaders from political parties.

Revathi is said to be the niece of former minister N Krishnappa and its an arranged marriage. In one of Nikhil’s earlier interviews, he had said he is marrying the girl chosen by his parents and does not know much about her at this stage.On the professional front, Nikhil Kumar is currently working on a new project directed by S Krishna. Confirming the presence of Ram Charan in the film, Chiranjeevi thanked SS Rajamouli for allowing the ‘Magadheera’ actor to play the extended cameo amid the hectic schedule of RRR (Roudram Ranam Rudhiram).

Starring Kajal Aggarwal as the leading lady, Acharya will feature the senior actor as a Naxalite-turned-social reformer. While Mani Sharma is roped in to compose the music, Regina Cassandra has recently sizzled for a special number opposite Chiranjeevi.

While the Supreme Court has earlier (Apr 8th) passed an order that the coronavirus test will be free for all the citizens of the country as the country is facing the worst pandemic. But with few petitions challenging its order, on Monday the SC has issued a fresh order saying that COVID-19 test will be free only for poor people while others have to pay.

Earlier SC has fumed against collecting Rs 4500 for Coronavirus determination tests by private labs and hospitals and asked the government to look into passing an order that makes the test free. But with challengers of the order claiming that the test is being charged Rs 32,000 in the United Kingdom, and private labs will be unnecessarily burdened if tests are done for free, SC agreed with them. Now, only those who have governments Ayush ID cards will get the test done for free.

One wonders why India could not implement a South Korean model where testing is done for free for everyone, and the country successfully stopped the spread of the virus.

ICICI Group commits Rs. 100 crore to fight COVID-19 pandemic

ICICI Group today announced that it has committed Rs. 100 crore to support the nation in its fight against the COVID-19 outbreak. Of this, the Group pledges to contribute Rs. 80 crore to the ‘PM Cares Fund’ and Rs. 20 crores to state governments and local authorities in their efforts to battle the pandemic. The sum of Rs. 100 crore is being contributed by ICICI Bank and all its subsidiaries.

Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Sandeep Batra, President, ICICI Bank said, “ICICI Group has always partnered the nation—at the times of progress as well as in times of need. The outbreak of COVID-19 has thrown an unprecedented challenge to the nation and its citizens. It demands us to stand together and fight the challenge. 

Our pledge to the ‘PM Cares Fund’ as well as state governments and local authorities is part of our commitment to join the Central Government and the local authorities in their fight against the pandemic. This is our humble way to salute the heroic efforts of the people, who are at the forefront of this challenge. We are confident that the country will win this battle and emerge victoriously.”

As part of the contribution to state governments and other authorities, ICICI Group including the ICICI Foundation, the CSR arm of ICICI Group, is working actively to assist them in their tireless efforts to safeguard citizens of the country.

So far, the ICICI Group has provided over 2.13 lakh surgical masks, over 40,000 N95 masks, 20,000 liters of sanitizers, 16,000 gloves, 5,300 personal protection equipment (PPE) suits, 2,600 protective eye gear and equipment like 50 thermal scanners and 3 non-invasive category ventilators to various state departments and hospitals. The Group will continue to serve the people who are at the forefront of the fight against the COVID -19 pandemic.

ICICI Bank is also assisting the central government, state governments, and municipal corporations in their efforts to collect donations digitally. The Bank has received the mandate of collections for the ‘PM CARES Fund’. Further, several state governments and local bodies have provided similar mandates to the Bank to receive donations/ contributions.

Adding that more discipline and lockdown will eventually help us win the battle, Modi stated that the lockdown will be extended till May 3, while some relaxations in few areas will be implemented with lots of conditions from April 20.

Asking the citizens of the country, to follow seven principles, Modi says, “You have to be with me on these seven points”. And the points include,

1) Take care of elderly people at home who already have ailments.

2) Use homemade masks and follow strict social distancing.

3) Increase your immunity, by following the guidelines given by Ayush Ministry.

4) Download the Arogya Setu mobile app to check if you have crossed paths.

5) Help the poor with their needs, give them food and essentials.

6) Don’t remove employees from jobs and show compassion towards colleagues.

7) Respect and pray for Healthcare workers, Doctors and Sanitation workers

Asking every to stay home and stay safe, Modi gave an assurance that centre and states are working together such that supply chain will not get hit, and ensured that there is no shortage of food grains or any other commodities in India.

Almost all the media reports and almost all the state governments had information that the lockdown would be extended till April 30th which was fair and all were prepared for this sort of lockdown extension since the situation is only worsening.

However, no one had predicted before Modi‘s address to nation that he had different plan. Instead of extending upto April 30th, Prime Minister went a step further and stated that the lockdown would be in force until May 3rd. This has come as a shocker to many including media houses who didn’t expect this.

It is learnt that this information has been kept highly confidential and no one leaked to media or any state governments as it could leak to media. This has been kept confidential at the top brass of Union Government. Until Modi himself announced, this was kept as secret.

The main reasons for this May 3rd deadlineis, May 1st is naturally a holiday being Labour Day. May 2nd and May 3rd are Saturday and Sunday respectively where most private jobs have holidays.

Since lifting lockdown on April 30th could lead public to come out free in large numbers on May 1st, 2nd and May 3rd had the lockdown is lifted on April 30th and this could defeat the purpose of lockdown as there could be further spread of Corona positive cases, Prime Minister and Home Ministry have extended the lockdown to 3 more days and kept May 3rd as the deadline.

If the relief would come on May 4th or not would purely depend on then circumstances. But given the stern measures being taken up by Union Government and respective state governments across the nation, it is expected that the Corona could come into absolute control as all the positive cases could come to standstill if lockdown is strictly implemented. But this is just an idea. One has to wait and watch as no one could predict what is going to happen in coming days.

Looks like the director is rehashing a similar storyline for ‘Alludu Adhurs’ too, and with Anu Emmanuel playing the role of what Aksha did then.

After Kandireega, Aksha’s future in Tollywood got washed out, while Nargis Fakhri who did the same role in Hindi remake Main Tera Hero also got vanished. We have to see what happens to Anu Emmanuel now.
