With only three days remaining, the big question for unemployed youth and government job seekers in the State is whether the Congress government will fulfill its promise of announcing the Group-I notification. In their election manifesto, the Congress pledged to fill two lakh jobs within the first year of forming the government.
To honor this commitment, the government released a job calendar specifying the notification dates for various vacancies, with the Group-I notification scheduled for February 1.
The Congress also outlined plans to notify Group-II on April 1 in the first phase, with the second phase notification set for December 15. Additionally, teacher job aspirants were promised a mega District Selection Committee (DSC).
Notification dates for Group-III and IV vacancies, assistant executive engineers and AEE posts in various departments, agriculture, horticulture, and veterinary officers, assistant motor car vehicle inspectors, as well as positions in transport, excise, and police constables, polytechnic, junior and degree lecturers were also announced.
However, there are concerns that the government might miss the February 1 deadline as there have been no clearances from the Finance Department for recruiting new positions. The recruitment process involves approval from the Finance Department to the recruiting agency, such as the TSPSC. Even with everything in place, the recruiting agency takes at least one to two weeks to issue a fresh notification.
In 2022, the BRS government, through the TSPSC, announced 26 notifications for a total of 17,285 vacancies, including 503 Group-I, 783 Group-II, 1,375 Group-III, and 8,180 Group-IV. The newly formed TSPSC team, led by former Telangana DGP M Mahendar Reddy, is reportedly reviewing the commission’s functioning, recruitment process, pending notifications, and results to be declared.

A second-year engineering student allegedly took her own life in her hostel room at Luckyreddy Balireddy Engineering College in Andhra’s NTR district. The college declared a holiday in response to the tragedy, allowing students and staff time to process the news.
Concerns were raised about the role of the hostel warden, and a comprehensive investigation is underway to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident. The student’s body was transported to Mylavaram Government Hospital for post-mortem, while discussions between the management, police, and the student’s family continue.
Aditya Verma, an 18-year-old economics student, was recently acquitted in Spain after a Snapchat joke about blowing up the Taliban plane he was on landed him in hot water.
The incident occurred in July 2022, while Verma was on a trip to Menorca with friends. Before takeoff from Gatwick Airport, he sent a Snapchat message saying, “On my way to blow up the plane. I’m a member of the Taliban.”
This seemingly harmless joke backfired spectacularly. UK security services picked up the message and alerted Spanish authorities. Two Spanish fighter jets were scrambled to escort the plane, causing a major security scare.
Verma was arrested and detained for two days in Spain before being released on bail. He faced a hefty fine of up to €22,500 and an additional €95,000 to cover the cost of the fighter jet deployment if found guilty.
However, the court in Madrid ruled in Verma’s favor, finding that his message “did not constitute a real threat” and was intended as a joke among friends. The judge also noted Verma’s young age and lack of any prior criminal record.
This case highlights the potential dangers of online humor, especially when involving sensitive topics like terrorism. Even seemingly harmless jokes can have serious consequences, as Verma learned the hard way.
