Despite the arrival of two much-anticipated blockbusters, Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki and Prabhas’ Salaar, Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal continues to impress at the box office. Trade experts predicted a decline for Animal, but it has defied expectations, collecting a strong 2 Cr+ net in India even on a weekday.

Bolstered by its solid performance and the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays, Animal Box Office is poised to join the exclusive 500 Cr club. It has already crossed this milestone when considering all languages and needs just 22 Cr net more in Hindi to achieve it in that category as well. Hyderabad Crime: Witnessed a rise in specific crimes

Hyderabad Crime: While the overall crime rate in Hyderabad only saw a modest 2% increase in 2023 compared to the previous year, certain categories like cyber crimes, financial scams, and offenses against women witnessed a sharp rise.

Officials, however, attribute this increase to the city’s growing population.

The Commissioner of Police, K Sreenivasa Reddy, highlighted the department’s efforts to combat crime, including establishing new police stations and forming specialized teams for prevention and detection.

Despite the overall increase, there were some positive aspects:

Increased reporting: More people felt comfortable reporting crimes, leading to a higher number of registered cases (24,821 in 2023 compared to 21,795 previously).
Focus on specific crimes: Dedicated efforts led to a rise in the detection of property offenses and recovery of stolen property.
Declining POCSO cases: There was a positive trend in the decline of cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Sreenivasa Reddy acknowledged a 16% increase in bodily offenses, attributing it partially to elections held during the year.

While the overall crime rate remained marginally higher, the significant rise in specific categories and the acknowledgment of challenges by authorities highlight the need for continued focus and targeted strategies to ensure Hyderabad’s safety and security.

COVID active cases rise above 2,900

India registered 640 new COVID-19 infections on Friday, pushing the active caseload to 2,997, a jump from 2,669 the previous day. This marks a slight rise in daily cases and active infections.

The total number of COVID cases in the country now stands at 45 million (4,50,07,212). One fatality was reported from Kerala, increasing the death toll to 5,33,328.

On a positive note, recoveries continue to outpace new infections. With 4,44,70,887 people having recovered from the disease, the national recovery rate stands at 98.81%.

The case fatality rate remains at 1.19%.

India’s vaccination program continues to make progress, with over 220.67 crore vaccine doses administered to date.

Story:

Deva (Prabhas) leads a simple life with a mysterious past, residing with his mother in Tinsukia. The peace is disrupted when a gang searches for Aadhya (Shruti Haasan), a newcomer in town. Deva discovers that his best friend Varadharaja Mannar (Prithviraj Sukumaran) in Khansaar city is behind the scheme. The conflict escalates, raising questions. Who is Aadhya? What connects her to Varadharaj? What caused the rift between the two friends? The movie unfolds the answers.

Plus Points:

After a long break, fans finally see Prabhas in a full-fledged action film, skillfully presented by Prashanth Neel, who knows how to showcase Prabhas in a way fans love.

Prabhas fits perfectly into the role of Deva aka Salaar, making it difficult to imagine another actor in the part. His character involves minimal dialogue but oozes violence, showcasing his physique, dialogue delivery, and overall fan-friendly persona. Prabhas’ intense and ruthless behavior, especially in action scenes, keeps the audience engaged.

Prithviraj Sukumaran delivers a solid performance, adding depth to the film. His proficiency in Telugu and compelling scenes with Prabhas enhance the viewing experience.

The first half has a strong impact, featuring Prashanth Neel’s signature fast-paced and engaging screenplay. Impressive action sequences, along with a good score, create moments that fans will cheer for.

Minus Points:

While the story maintains a decent pace in the first half, the second half could have benefited from a more polished narration. Some scenes in the second hour might remind viewers of KGF, affecting the film’s originality.

Despite a strong supporting cast, Prashanth Neel mainly highlights certain actors, sidelining others who could have had more significant roles.

The abundance of violence in the second half may not resonate well with family audiences.

Technical Aspects:

Prashanth Neel again showcases his directing skills, using simple scenes to highlight heroism. A more focused approach to the story and screenplay in the second half could have improved the overall narrative.

Ravi Basrur’s music adds to the scenes, and Bhuvan Gowda’s cinematography is commendable. Anbarivu’s stunts are a highlight. While Ujwal Kulkarni’s editing could have been smoother in the second half, the production values are commendable.

Verdict:

Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire stands out as an intense action drama featuring a fantastic performance by Prabhas, especially in action scenes, and Prithviraj. Well-executed stunts add to the film’s appeal. However, the simple narrative, a somewhat slow second half, and excessive violence are noticeable drawbacks. If you are a fan of Prabhas or enjoy high-energy action movies, Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire is worth watching this weekend.

Stocks in India lost ground today. The Sensex fell 586 points to 69,920, and the Nifty dropped 173 points to 20,976.

Global markets are not doing well: Other countries’ stock markets are also going down, which makes our market shaky.
Foreign investors are selling Indian stocks: They are taking their money out of India, which reduces demand for stocks and makes them cheaper.
The recent rally was too good to last: Stock prices had been going up a lot recently, so some investors are taking profits now before prices fall further.

The main losers were companies like Axis Bank, Larsen & Toubro, and ICICI Bank. The only ones that went up were Power Grid, Reliance Industries, and Nestle.

SRK Shines: Shah Rukh Khan delivers a great performance, especially in a courtroom scene. He’s not just a star, he’s a skilled actor too.
Solid Cast: Taapsee Pannu and others hold their own alongside SRK. The film also sheds light on a less-known issue.
