Sharmila offers to gift copy of Constitution to KCR

YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) president YS Sharmila on Friday offered to gift a copy of the Constitution to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to advise him to read it and govern the state accordingly.

While paying tributes to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar at Tank Bund on his birth anniversary, she lashed out at the Chief Minister for “insulting” the Constitution drafted by Babasaheb.

She slammed KCR for his utter “disregard in keeping promises” made to Dalits. She wanted to proceed to the Chief Minister’s official residence to gift him a copy of the Constitution but was stopped by the police.

“On this occasion, YSRTP is happy to gift Indian Constitution to KCR. We hope it opens his eyes and compels him to respect and implement the Constitution,” said Sharmila.

Sharmila alleged that KCR time and again insulted Babasaheb and the Constitution with his words and deeds.

“In Telangana, KCR’s constitution reigns supreme, where there is no freedom of speech and right to protest. KCR’s constitution is all about corruption, nepotism, and fake promises. From Dalit Chief Minister to Dalit Bandhu, Dalits have been cheated and neglected,” she said.

“The government has failed to keep a three-acre land promise, loans, and employment promises, empower SC Corporation, while atrocities and attacks on Dalits go unchecked in the state,” she claimed.

Google’s latest Chrome update boosts speed on Mac, Android

0

Google has announced that its Chrome web browser is getting a speed boost in the latest release due to several under-the-hood performance improvements, resulting in a significant new performance milestone across Mac and Android.

“The faster the browser, the more enjoyable your browsing experience will be. With the latest release of Chrome, we went deep under the hood of Chrome’s engine to look for every opportunity to increase the speed and efficiency, from improved caching to better memory management,” Google said in a blog post.

Over the course of three months, a series of tweaks gave Chrome a 10 percent boost on Apple’s Speedometer 2.1 browser benchmark, according to Google.

The changes include everything from improved caching to better memory management.

Moreover, the company said that Chrome on Android has always been optimised for a small footprint, but the Android ecosystem is diverse and contains devices with varying levels of capabilities.

To improve Chrome’s performance on high-end devices, Google is now targeting them with a version of Chrome that uses compiler flags optimized for speed rather than binary size.

For capable devices, these versions of Chrome run the Speedometer 2.1 benchmark 30 percent faster.

IPL 2023: Batters weren’t proactive in getting 20-30 more runs, admits PBKS’s Brad Haddin

0

Punjab Kings assistant coach Brad Haddin admitted his team was 20-30 runs short with the bat, and added that some batters could have been more proactive when they were out in the middle.

At the end of the Power-play, Punjab was cruising at 52/2. But Gujarat’s bowlers, led by Mohit Sharma’s 2-18, gave away only 42 runs in the middle overs and picked four wickets in the last five overs to keep Punjab to a below-par 153/8. Moreover, Punjab’s batters played 56 dot balls collectively as they crashed to a six-wicket defeat at home.

“It was in our batting, we probably left 20-30 runs out there. In the end, that’s probably the difference in the result. Last game, I thought Hyderabad bowled well. This time it was our fault with the bat not capitalizing on a few guys that got in, be a little more proactive to find those 20-30 runs,” said Haddin in the post-match press conference.

Young opener Prabhsimran Singh has seen a dip in form, recording two consecutive ducks in the tournament after making a rollicking fifty against Rajasthan Royals. Haddin expressed confidence that the young right-handed batter will get back to his scoring best soon.

“The thing with young guys is that they will go through that. The most important thing now is that they’re learning the reasons why. We’ve seen against Rajasthan he’s extremely talented when he gets in. He’s got a lot of power, shots around the field and he can be a match-winner.”

“So, it’s about him understanding his tempo and his role. We’re going to back him to play a style of game we need in the first six overs and it’s going to be a high-risk game. So, you’re going to see some good and bad performances,” he added.

Haddin further remarked that the Punjab side will continue to back Prabhsimran in the opening role.

“We’ve got a lot of options in the squad. But at the moment, his role is safe at the top of the order to play a proactive game. We’ve seen in this tournament if you give the guys a couple of extra games they normally come good.”

“They’re extremely talented players. He plays in a high-pressure role in the first six overs to take the game on. We’re comfortable where he is at. He’d obviously like some more runs but the upside is when he gets things right and finds some consistency he’d be a very dangerous player for some time,” he concluded.

WhatsApp’s new security feature to double check if it’s really you

0

Meta-owned WhatsApp has announced new security features to the platform, including — Account Protect, Device Verification, and Automatic Security Codes, which the company will be adding in the coming months.

Now, the company will double-check that it’s really you when you switch your WhatsApp account to a new device — using the ‘Account Protect’ feature.

“From now on, we may ask you on your old device to verify that you want to take this step as an extra security check. This feature can help alert you to an unauthorized attempt to move your account to another device,” WhatsApp said in a blog post.

To counter the growing menace of mobile device malware and its implications for personal privacy and security, the company has introduced a new feature called ‘Device Verification’.

This feature will add checks to help authenticate your account — with no action needed from you — and better protect you if your device is compromised, which will let you continue using WhatsApp uninterrupted.

Under ‘Automatic Security Codes’, the company is rolling out a security feature based on a process called “Key Transparency” that allows you to automatically verify that you have a secure connection, meaning you are chatting with the intended recipient.

When you click on the Encryption tab under a contact’s info, you’ll be able to verify right away that your personal conversation is secured.

0

People from all walks of life paid rich tributes to Bharat Ratna Dr. B. R. Ambedkar – the Chief Architect of the Indian Constitution – marking his 132nd birth anniversary here on Friday.

Leading the people Governor Ramesh Bais, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and other ministers went to Chaityabhoomi in Dadar to offer floral respects to the eminent jurist, economist, social reformer, and freedom fighter.

Top leaders of various major parties, including Congress state President Nana Patole, Balasaheb Thorat and Ashok Chavan, Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar, state chief Jayant Patil, Leader of Opposition (Assembly) Ajit Pawar, Supriya Sule, Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Aditya Thackeray, Leader of Opposition (Council) Ambadas Danve, Sanjay Raut, Arvind Sawant, and others paid tributes to Dr. Ambedkar.

Reports of celebrations have come in from all over Maharashtra, major cities, towns, districts, and upto block levels with commoners, men, women, school and college students, Dalits, and others remembering Dr. Ambedkar, revered as the Champion of the Downtrodden Masses.

A series of social-cultural events have been organized throughout the day to commemorate Dr. Ambedkar’s life, teachings, and contributions, by various private, government or semi-government institutions, NGOs, and organizations working towards the cause of the downtrodden.

Significant places directly linked with Dr. Ambedkar – Mumbai’s famed ‘Rajgruha’, his residential memorial in Dadar East, the south Mumbai’s Elphinstone High School and Elphinstone College where he was educated, and his final resting place of Chaityabhoomi in Dadar west, witnessed massive crowds of his excited followers trooping in here from all over the state.

Other important sites connected with Dr. Ambedkar, like Nagpur’s Deekshabhoomi where he embraced Buddhism, Raigad where he carried out the Mahad Satyagraha, and his tiny ancestral village of Ambadawe in Ratnagiri, were specially decorated with flowers, colorful rangolis and lights to mark the occasion, as thousands turned up to pay homage to his memory.

FairBreak tournament a wonderful initiative to grow women’s cricket in other nations: Marizanne Kapp

0

Marizanne Kapp has been a premier all-rounder not just for her country South Africa since 2009, but also in the women’s international cricket as well as the franchise T20 cricket arena.

Brimming with passion and persistence to be the best in her craft, Marizanne is currently playing for Falcons in the 2023 FairBreak Invitational tournament after collecting runners-up medals in the Women’s T20 World Cup on home soil and at the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) in India.

In an exclusive interview with IANS, Marizanne opened up about her participation in the ongoing FairBreak Invitational tournament in Hong Kong and what more can be done to promote women’s cricket.

Q. You have played in various T20 leagues all over. What has been the difference between playing in those leagues and featuring in the FairBreak tournament?

A. When we started, not a lot of people knew that we even played cricket. With just a bit of assistance, media and stuff, you can see where our team (South Africa) is now. It has been wonderful to see how many wonderful talented players are there within these teams. They just don’t get that exposure as they are playing for the associate nations.

Something like this was needed not only to grow the women’s game in England, Australia, India, and South Africa. But if you want the game to grow in other nations, then Fairbreak is a wonderful initiative. I can already see the difference in how much these players have improved from last year’s tournament to this year’s tournament, which I think is very amazing for the women’s game.

Q. It has been great to see players from many other countries like UAE, Brazil, and Malaysia among others playing in the tournament. Any player who’s caught your eye and you think could be a valuable player in international cricket?

A. There are quite a few. But one, obviously from being a bowling all-rounder, I saw that young, tall girl from the UAE (Mahika Gaur). She’s definitely been a standout for me. If you are that young and got that bit of pace, it can only get better and stronger from there.

But seeing a lot of UAE girls has really surprised me. We also know how good the Thailand players as well. I can already see a lot of improvement this year as compared to last year and that’s really good to see.

Q. In your opinion, what else do you think can be done in order to promote women’s cricket?

A. I don’t know if players from associate nations are contracted or not. But that’s definitely a way to go coz I know that’s ultimately helped the South African team years back. It gives you the opportunity just to focus on cricket.

Even if it’s just part-time, it will help you to train even harder. Apart from things like that, we also need more inclusion of them in tournaments. I know even in the WPL, where you could pick an associate player (which Delhi Capitals did), and then, in Fairbreak, it’s full-on associate players. Hopefully, a lot of other leagues in the world will follow in their footsteps.

Q. In the Falcons versus Tornadoes match, you had taken the wicket of Dane van Niekerk, who was playing for the first time after announcing her international retirement. How it felt like for you?

A. That wicket was extremely tough to bat on and had a bit of rain that day. So, I felt really bad because if you are a little bit slow, you won’t bother the batters much. But I would never face myself on that wicket, to be quite honest. I felt bad bowling at them, especially on that wicket.

Q. Personally speaking, how has been the experience for you of playing in a country like Hong Kong, which usually doesn’t host many prestigious tournaments?

A. I didn’t even know previously that cricket runs in a lot of countries like Hong Kong. It’s been a new experience, like in my team, all eleven players were from different countries and nothing like that has ever been done before.

It’s been a massive journey for me personally. It opens up your eyes a bit as well, coz we are so blessed that we expect things. Then, you see these associate players and see them struggle with facilities like they play a lot on Astro (pitches). It’s a massive eye-opener and just makes you feel blessed for what you have.

The live coverage of the FairBreak Invitational Tournament is on FanCode App (Android, iOS, TV) or www.fancode.com in India.

Twitter introduces 10K character long tweets amid fight with Substack

0

Before deleting all legacy Blue tick marks on April 20, Twitter on Friday introduced a feature that allows posts with 10,000 characters for paid Blue subscribers.

Twitter now supports tweets up to 10,000 characters in length, “with bold and italic text formatting,” the company informed.

In February, the micro-blogging platform introduced 4,000-character-long tweets for Blue subscribers.

“Sign up for Twitter Blue to access these new features, and apply to enable Subscriptions on your account to earn income directly on Twitter. Tap on ‘Monetization’ in settings,” said the Elon Musk-run company.

Musk on Thursday announced that ‘Subscriptions’ are now enabled on the platform — a way for people’s most engaged followers to help them earn money from Twitter for their contributions on the platform.

“We’re firing up creator subscriptions big time! Works for long-form text, pics or video,” Musk posted.

The decision to introduce 10,000-character-long tweets comes as Twitter is embroiled in a fight with popular subscription newsletter platform Substack.

Substack hit back at Twitter for blocking the ability to like or retweet any posts containing the word ‘Substack’, saying the whole situation is “very frustrating.”

The company CEO Chris Best responded to Musk with a post on Substack Notes, saying Substack links have been obviously severely throttled on Twitter.

The Twitter move has become a huge problem for Substack writers, who use the Musk-run platform to promote their newsletters.

Europa League: Florian Wirtz’s goal helps Leverkusen hold Saint-Gilloise

0

Bayern Leverkusen managed a 1-1 draw with Royale Union Saint-Gilloise at home after Florian Wirtz equalized Victor Boniface’s opener in the first leg of the quarterfinals.

The Werkself controlled possession from the start on Thursday night and nearly scored seven minutes in when Wirtz navigated through Saint-Gilloise’s area before shooting wide from a promising position.

The visitors from Belgium waited for counterattacks and almost caught the hosts off guard at the half-hour mark. Boniface shook off two defenders and tested Lukas Hradecky with a dangerous low shot, reports Xinhua.

Saint-Gilloise nearly scored with the subsequent corner kick as Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah deflected the cross onto his own crossbar.

Leverkusen mounted a series of aggressive attacks before the break, but Moussa Diaby’s shot narrowly missed the target, and Piero Hincapie squandered a promising header from close range.

Saint-Gilloise punished Leverkusen for their wastefulness in front of the goal 51 minutes in when Teddy Teuma’s through ball allowed Boniface to slot home from inside the box into the far bottom corner.

Leverkusen was stunned and struggled to respond as Saint-Gilloise kept all their men behind the ball to maintain the narrow lead.

The hosts found it difficult to penetrate Saint-Gilloise’s well-organized defense and had to wait until the 83rd minute when Wirtz unleashed a 20-meter strike to secure a 1-1 draw in front of the home crowd.

“We are, of course, disappointed that we conceded a late goal. We came here to win. We will have to focus on the second leg and stay compact,” said Saint-Gilloise’s striker Boniface, who leads the Europa League scorer list with six goals.

“It’s not the worst result, given the fact we were behind. We wanted to control things, but we lacked accuracy in the final third. Everything is still possible. We must secure an away win if we want to advance to the next round,” said Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso.

IPL 2023: Tough pill to swallow, taking it this close, says Hardik after Titans beat PBKS in last-over thriller

0

Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya did not expect their clash with Punjab Kings to be a close affair after restricting their opponents to a small total and said they will go back to the drawing board to analyze the reason for that.

Opener Shubman Gill notched up his second half-century of IPL 2023 while fast bowler Mohit Sharma marked his comeback in the tournament with a stellar spell to lead the way for Gujarat Titans to beat Punjab Kings by six wickets at the IS Bindra PCA Stadium on Thursday.

Mohit Sharma shone through with his 2-18 in four overs as he led a clinical bowling performance from Gujarat to restrict Punjab to 153/8.

The defending champions were on course for a comfortable chase, thanks to Gill’s serene 67 off 49 balls. With seven runs needed off the final over, after Arshdeep Singh conceded only six runs in the 19th, Gill survived a run-out chance, before Sam Curran uprooted his off-stump on the very next ball, bringing sudden tension into the match.

After Curran nailed two back-to-back yorkers, David Miller completed the second run with a desperate dive. With four runs needed off the last two balls, Rahul Tewatia calmly finished off the chase by moving across and scooping a full ball from Curran over a short fine-leg for four to seal victory for Gujarat with a ball to spare.

“To be very honest, I would not appreciate the game going this close from the situation we were in. There was definitely a lot for us to learn from this game. That’s the beauty of sports, it’s never over till it’s over. So we will go back to the drawing board. I think we can take a couple more risks in the middle overs,” Hardik Pandya said during the post-match presentation ceremony on Thursday night.

“It will be a tough pill to swallow, taking it this close. Not a big fan of taking the game to the last over,” said Hardik Pandya.

Thursday’s victory was Gujarat’s third win of the ongoing season and takes them to third place on the points table, while Punjab were handed their second loss of the tournament. Mohit, a previous Purple Cap winner in the IPL, was a net bowler for Gujarat in clinching their maiden title last year.

“The wicket was good but because of the hardness of the soil and wicket, the ball was getting dried up. It was a belter when the new ball was playing. I was not surprised when Mohit and Alzarri came. They bowled terrific,” said Pandya.

The India T20 captain, who has led Gujarat Titans to the title in their maiden attempt in IPL 2022, praised young pacer Mohit Sharma for his performance in the match. Mohit Sharma had joined Gujarat Titans as a net bowler before getting an IPL contract.

“All credit to Mohit. To come to join us as a net bowler and then wait for his chance, knowing his time will come and today it came,” said the Gujarat Titans captain who returned to action after missing the previous game due to a niggle.
