‘Karthikeya 2’ actor Nikhil Siddhartha is a huge SRK fan

Telugu actor Nikhil Siddhartha, who got a lot of positive responses for his pan-India release, ‘Karthikeya 2’, is a huge fan of the Badshah of Bollywood – Shah Rukh Khan, by his own admission.

Nikhil has been a part of ‘Karthikeya 1’ and ‘Karthikeya 2’ and will also be seen in ‘Karthikeya 3’.

The actor, who started his journey in the film industry as an assistant director, and emerged as a successful actor with ‘Karthikeya 2’, recently shared, “I am a huge Shahrukh Khan fan from the ‘Fauji’ and ‘Circus’ (television shows) time.”

He said that he has seen every single interview of Shah Rukh Khan to understand what it takes to be an outsider and still rule the hearts of millions across the world, “I have watched every interview of his and learned how he came from outside and became the King of Bollywood.”

After its theatrical run, ‘Karthikeya 2’ will soon be streaming on ZEE5 from October 5. The movie did good business in both the Northern and Southern belts. The actor has a mesmerizing line-up of films in the coming year and will be seen next in ‘Spy’, a larger-than-life action thriller.

‘Adipurush’ riles up netizens, who call it ‘Rs 500 crore temple run’ over its poor VFX

The highly anticipated teaser of the Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan-starrer Adipurush’ was unveiled in Ayodhya recently, in line with the film’s theme of the Ramayan. Although the teaser has managed to create a buzz around the film, the cost at which it has done so is something that might worry the makers. The film’s teaser is being mercilessly trolled on social media by the netizens.

The makers of ‘Adipurush’, which has been directed by Om Raut, have spent a fortune on the visual effects. The film has reportedly been made on a budget of over INR 400 crores, most of which has been spent on the VFX but, it seems like the output is far from what the audience was expecting.

People on the Internet are venting their anger after being disappointed by the VFX. The teaser has sparked a meme fest on Twitter and Instagram as the members as having a field day. One user wrote on the Internet, “Hiring Vfx artist from team ‘Oh My Friend Ganesha (sic).”

Calling it a “Pogo” film over its cartoonish look, many people have called out Prabhas for not improving his fitness and using body enhancement through computer graphics. One Twitter user wrote, “700 cr Temple Run (laughing emojis).”

Another one writes, “Exclusive: #Adipurush satellite rights bagged by POGO channel”. “#disappointed with #Adipurush trailer. Only a director like Rajamouli can do justice and portray Shri Ram the way Hindus would want. All others want to mint money in the name of Shri Ram. Plus I don’t want to watch (sic).”

There are also some genuine fans, who want the makers to rework the graphics and save the film from impending doom as it releases in 2023. One such user wrote on Instagram, “I hope they push the release by a year and hope that some wonder kid from Red Chillies VFX (Shah Rukh Khan owned VFX studio) or Prime Focus (again a renowned VFX studio) bless them by coming on board and make this abomination at least watchable on a big screen).”

Google to nurture 20 startups by Indian women founders

Google on Monday announced the first class of 20 women founded/co-founded startups, selected from close to 400 applications, for the inaugural cohort of ‘Google for Startups Accelerator-India Women Founders’.

The tech giant will place special emphasis on access to networks, access to capital, hiring challenges, mentorship, and many others which, for a variety of social reasons and low representation, prove challenging for female founders.

In addition to these, the curriculum will include workshops and support around AI/ML, Cloud, UX, Android, Web, product strategy, and growth, as well as provide access to a global community of women founders, said the company.

Some of the startups selected are Aspire for Her, Brown Living, CoLLearn Education, Commudle, Dubverse, Elda Health, Fitbots, and more.

“This program is part of a larger effort by Google towards improving the representation of women across different sections of India’s digitally-trained workforce – be it entrepreneurship, professionals looking to upskill, or young graduates seeking a head start on their career,” said Google.

While Misery startup is building a world-class review-focussed ecosystem with a mission to remove product misinformation through authentic reviews and customer feedback, OPOD Audio is a vernacular audio app that provides contextual information on trending news and current affairs in just 30 seconds.

National Games badminton: Telangana’s troika of Sai, Sumeeth & Sikki ambush Prannoy’s Kerala to win gold

Telangana’s B Sai Praneeth upset Kerala’s much fancied and in-form HS Prannoy 18-21, 21-16, 22-20 to help his team annex the Badminton Mixed Team gold in the 36th National Games here on Monday.

His victory came on the heels of another brilliant show by the husband-and-wife duo of Sumeeth Reddy and Sikki Reddy who got the better of the youthful pair of MR Arjun and Treesa Jolly 21-15, 14-21, 21-14 in a thrilling battle.

Samiya Farooqui, then, beat T.R Gowrikrishna 21-5, 21-12 to give Telangana a lot to celebrate.

As much as it was a victory on the court, Telangana scored on the strategy front too. They decided to field the experienced Sumeeth and Sikki in the opening Mixed Doubles ahead of Vishnuvardhan Goud and Gayatri Gopichand, who had lost against Maharashtra.

“We only gave the coach the option of trying us out,” Sumeeth said, even though they had last played together way back in the 2021 Thailand Open.

The couple fumbled at the start as the speedy Arjun and Treesa jumped into an early 5-2 lead. “We were playing after a long time. We don’t even practice together as we quite often get into arguments. It took some time to get into a rhythm. But once we found our groove, we got into a good rhythm,” a smiling Sikki said.

The Kerala pair, however, fought back to win the second game, with Arjun sending powerful smashes from the backline and Treesa being efficient at the net.

The third game went close till 12-all before a change of strategy did the trick for Telangana.

“I think the turning point was when I went for variations in my service, not giving them any length,” Sikki explained.

The next match was crucial, with Prannoy, who is currently ranked 16th in the world and is enjoying a dream season, starting as the favorite.

“I knew it would be a tough match, especially as we know each other’s game as we often train together. But gradually I found my strokes,” Praneeth, who is enjoying a dream season, said.

The first game was played fiercely. A tentative Praneeth made a few unforced errors while Prannoy looked good with his all-around game. They went neck-and-neck till 18-18 before Prannoy clinched it with a couple of well-measured shots.

Praneeth was in full flow in the second game, with his repertoire of strokes catching Prannoy on the wrong foot. He surged ahead for a 13-7 lead and held on to it to make it 1-1. Even in the third game, Praneeth built a healthy lead of 13-7 before Prannoy made it to 18-18 all.

“I was suddenly blank as Prannoy began to play a fast game. With the shuttle also coming off slowly, I was a little taken aback. But luckily, I held on to my nerves and pulled off this crucial win. It will boost my morale,” Praneeth explained.

Pakistan overcome on Bangladesh with help of Bowlers and Sidra; reach best level of table: Women’s Asia Cup

0

An impressive bowling show coupled with Sidra Amin’s unbeaten 36 helped Pakistan defeat Bangladesh by nine wickets to win their second match in as many outings in the Women’s Asia Cup at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium (SICS) on Monday.

Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof’s decision to bowl first was hugely justified as right-arm fast bowler Diana Baig dismissed Shamima Sultana for one as Bangladesh played 30 dot balls in the power-play yielding 12/3.

Spinners once again came into play for them on a sluggish pitch with some variable bounce and turn as Nida Dar (2/19), Omaima Sohail (1/4) and Sadia Iqbal (1/20) shared four wickets between themselves to bamboozle Bangladesh’s batting.

Diana bagged two wickets for 11 runs from three overs, including Shamima’s scalp early on, to restrict the hosts to a paltry 70/8 in 20 overs.

The match was stopped for some time in the 18th over due to rain but resumed shortly without losing any overs in the match though it didn’t give the hosts and defending champions the relief they needed from an off day on the field.

In reply, the openers, Sidra and Muneeba Ali shared a solid 49-run partnership for the first wicket. The duo scored 40 runs in the powerplay which included five fours.

Muneeba was the only batter to be dismissed in Pakistan’s chase, making 14 off 19, hitting one four.

The right-handed Sidra — who was included in the squad in place of Iram Javed, remained undefeated on a 35-ball 36, smashing four boundaries, and was rightly named player of the match. Bismah scored an unbeaten 12 off 20 balls and stayed till the end to chase down the target inside 13 overs.

Brief scores:

Bangladesh 70/8 in 20 overs (Salma Khatun 24 not out; Diana Baig 2-11, Nida Dar 2-19) lost to Pakistan 72-1 in 12.2 overs (Sidra Amin 36 not out, Salma Khatun 1/27) by nine wickets.

Imran Khan to launch anti-govt long march within six days

0

After holding over 55 public gatherings and over two dozen conferences, and institutional events; Imran khan is geared up to launch an anti-government long march and protest sit-in choking Pakistan’s capital Islamabad until his demand of holding early elections is met.

Sources within Imran Khan’s political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have confirmed that the date for the long march will be announced within the next six days as the party is now holding consultations and engaging with sources to start preparing for the upcoming long march.

Former Information Minister and senior member of PTI, Fawad Chaudhry said that the nation should start preparing for the long march as this is the only option left to oust what he termed as an “imported government of power.”

“This government does not hold the consent of the majority of the country and has been brought into power through a regime change conspiracy. The nation now should start preparing for a long march because Imran Khan is the true leader who represents the sentiments of the whole country,” he said.

“Imran Khan will be announcing the date for the long march within the next six days and that will be the final showdown against this imported government,” he added.

PTI sources also revealed that Imran Khan has already started directing local management of the party in all provinces to prepare for the long march.

In a closed-door meeting, Imran Khan said that he will not be giving any more time to the Shehbaz Sharif government.

“I will not give any more time to oppressors and formally announce the date of the historic long march soon,” said Imran Khan.

The decision to hold a long march comes after failed attempts to reach out to coalition partners of the Shehbaz Sharif government, backdoor meetings with the military establishment higher-ups, audio leaks, and the government’s attempts to put Imran Khan behind bars in various cases including Tosha Khana case, Foreign Funding case and the ongoing talks about booking Imran Khan under Article-6 (Treason) for hatching a conspiracy narrative out of the cipher and using it to play the political game through the regime change narrative.

There are various strategies being considered for the long march, especially in view of the previous long march that dealt with tear gases, blockades, house raids, and assaults by the security forces on orders of the current federal minister for the Interior Rana Sanaullah.

Among the expected strategies and in view of the fact that Imran Khan enjoys provincial control over Punjab, Khyber Pukhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) aka Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK), his strategy to choke Islamabad may well be focused on shutting down provinces and cutting all connecting routes towards the capital Islamabad from all sides.

This will not be the first time that PTI has staged a massive protest sit-in against the then-sitting government. In 2014, Imran Khan staged a 126-days sit-in protest in Islamabad demanding the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif step down and hold early elections. However, neither Imran Khan’s demand was met nor the months-long protest prompted the ouster of the sitting government.

Sunny Leone on non-fiction shows: You have to be yourself, and that’s challenging

As Sunny Leone kicks off the new season of the youth-based reality show ‘Splitsvilla’, the actress on why is the most exciting genre to pull off. She says non-fiction is always difficult to shoot and perform as one has to be themselves and that’s the most challenging and most fun thing to do.

With the new season in Goa, she tells us that this is the toughest genre to shoot. The actress is soon going to star opposite Vishnu Manchu in the upcoming Pan-India film ‘Ginna’.

From shooting a multilingual film to doing an action-packed web series, the actress has done it all in 2022. But what turned out to be the most thrilling for her is ‘Splitsvilla’.

Revealing the reason, she said: “At its core, this reality show is about love, longing, and heartbreak. To see young people go through that journey is both heartening and sometimes tough to judge. Human beings are flawed by nature and so when we show these real emotions on screens, even as judges we find it hard to gauge who is right and who is wrong.

She added: “Moreover, every year, the attempt to do something unexpected and keep the conversations fresh. The whole team endeavors to retain the snazziness of the show and blend it with genuine emotions. Non-fiction is always difficult to shoot and perform. You have to be yourself and sometimes that’s the most challenging and most fun thing to do.”

IND v SA: Snake on field, floodlight failure cause stoppages in second T20I at Guwahati

0

The second T20I between India and South Africa at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati was an absolute run-fest, with an aggregate of 458 runs giving the capacity crowd their money’s worth.

But it was not just the sizzling knocks of Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul, and David Miller which made headlines from the match. There were two interruptions — one each in the first and second innings — which made waves on social media.

The first one, happened during India’s innings after South Africa inserted them into batting first. At the end of the seventh over, visuals of ground staff running quickly on the field with sticks and a bucket in hand were seen to remove a snake that was making its presence felt in the outfield.

Left-arm pace all-rounder Wayne Parnell, who was fielding at extra cover, was quick to spot the snake and alerted all on the field about it. The unusual incident left several fans amused, with former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop tweeting with a snake emoji, “I have so many questions.”

There were no further interruptions in India’s innings after the ground staff took away the uninvited intruder from the field. Eventually, Suryakumar Yadav and K.L Rahul became the stars in a collective commanding batting show from India to make 237/3, their fourth-highest score in all T20Is.

In front of a jam-packed crowd, Rahul sizzled with an eye-pleasing 57 of 28 balls, before Suryakumar brought out full carnage of 360-degree shots to make 61 off just 22 balls.

Captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Dinesh Karthik played their parts well as India made merry and enthralled the fans by feasting on an ordinary bowling performance from South Africa, barring Keshav Maharaj’s 2/23 in four overs.

Then, in defense of 237/3, the proceedings came to an abrupt halt in the third over of the second innings. One of the floodlight towers in the stadium went off, meaning the players went off the field. The play was stopped for just ten minutes before the lights came back on and the match began.

“It’s out of our control (on the floodlight failure). It kind of just gave us a little bit of time to process what happened. (It) gave us an opportunity to chat about the powerplay after the first couple of overs went India’s way. And then there was the issue with the snake as well (in India’s innings). I thought there was a lot going on there,” said South Africa batter David Miller in the post-match press conference.

Grateful for having done ‘Goodbye’ with Big B, says Rashmika Mandanna

South actress Rashmika Mandanna, who has worked with Amitabh Bachchan in ‘Goodbye’, says that she is grateful for having done the film with the Bollywood superstar.

Taking to Instagram, the actress posted a picture of herself with Big B and wrote, “I still can’t believe this is happening.

Having done a film with sir, getting to talk to him, being able to share the same stage as him, talking about the same topics, getting to take a picture with him, my God!!

“He is an absolutely brilliant performer… A gem of a person and always arguing with me as a reel papa… but my God – how grateful am I.

“I am grateful for having done ‘Goodbye’ with Amitabh Bachchan sir. It’s been an absolute honor and this will forever be super special. PS – See papa and Tara in five days on October 7 in cinemas near you!”

The actress considers the Hindi film super special as she herself mentioned in one of her posts when she wrapped up shooting for the film.

She then said, “Everyone I’ve worked with in this team will always and forever be super special to me (Guys! Let’s work again soon, like super soon. I dunno how you’ll make it happen but make it happen!) I love you guys! You are the bestest!”

Millions of Indian smartphone users have to wait till 2024 for 5G

0

As India rolls out 5G by showcasing some early use cases with telcos setting some aggressive deadlines, millions of smartphone users will only enjoy the super-fast Internet in 2024 amid infrastructure limitations, limited use cases, and low 5G handset penetration, industry experts said on Monday.

India is home to more than 500 million smartphone users and over 100 million users with 5G-ready smartphones wish to upgrade to a 5G subscription in 2023, according to the latest Ericsson report.

However, there are multiple challenges ahead for telecom service providers to meet the tough roll-out deadlines.

“In theory, there are use cases out there which really warrant and demand 5G: enterprise solutions, private networks, IoT, logistics. But it could take a year or more for those applications to really take off,” Prasanto K. Roy, leading technology and public policy expert, told in an interview.

Telcos will focus on converting existing higher-ARPU (average revenue per user) individual customers to 5G, which really limits how much more they can charge for 5G, especially in a competitive space.

“I don’t see 5G really bumping up ARPU overall in any significant way — at least not in 2023,” Roy said.

In the top four metros, consumers should be able to experience 5G in early October (according to Airtel) to late October (according to Reliance Jio), with Airtel planning to take 5G to eight cities this month.

There are no 5G rollout plans from Vodafone-Idea yet.

“However, with tariffs still unclear, I do not know if current 4G customers will all be able to sample a limited trial, or will have to upgrade right away. Although Airtel (and possibly Jio) expects a revenue increase (from its current ARPU of Rs 183), I do not expect most customers to shell out much more for 5G,” Roy noted.

The Ericsson study, however, claimed that Indian smartphone users are willing to pay a 45 percent premium for a plan bundled with novel experiences, which could be a delight for Internet service providers ready with 5G.

According to Neil Shah, Vice President of Research at Counterpoint, in terms of population coverage, for all operators, India should reach the current blanket 4G coverage by the end of 2024, way sooner than the 4G or 3G era.

“Jio is in a driver’s seat with respect to its peers to likely achieve a pan India 5G network rollout over the next 15 months with no 2G, 3G, and 4G baggage,” Shah told an interview.

Not only consumers but also enterprises and the public sector will be able to benefit from 5G over the period of the next two years.

“Airtel, on the other hand, also has been building a highly upgradeable network to easily reuse the same towers for both 4G and 5G. Most of its key circles should be able to experience 5G by mid-2024,” Shah noted.

According to smartphone players, 5G has the potential to bring together the entire ecosystem and online gaming, augmented/virtual reality (AR-VR) experience, along with content creation, will take center stage with the launch of 5G services.

“With 5G being officially available now, we are looking forward to exploring the numerous opportunities it provides to us and will be directing our efforts into making this technology even more accessible to users,” said Madhav Sheth, CEO of realme India, VP, realme and President, realme International Business Group.

According to Roy, infrastructure limitations and limited use cases and revenue also pose great challenges for telcos and smartphone players.

“To really leverage 5G bandwidth and latency, towers are to be connected by fiber. Only a third of them are ‘fiberized’ so I would expect 5G service to be reserved for large cities until the fiber gets to twice that number of towers,” he explained.

Telcos have also struggled with adequate tower density even for 4G, but 5G needs a much higher tower density — increasing upfront investment.

“All this capex investment would also be limited by the telcos’ high debt and stagnant ARPU (revenues), already stretched by spectrum fees and initial 5G investments,” according to Roy.

IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expects telcos to invest Rs 2-3 lakh crore on 5G and 4G in the next two years for better voice quality and high-speed data.

There are also 5G network equipment availability challenges, because of very strict supply chain reporting mandates for cybersecurity and related reasons since June 2021 (called the NSDTS directive).

“This is slowing down approved telecom and IT equipment available for the telcos, or requiring them to apply for case-by-case exemptions,” Roy told.

Several firsts to Suryakumar’s name following his blazing knock in second T20I v South Africa

0

Charismatic India batter Suryakumar Yadav might have missed out on the ‘Man of the Match award but his 61-run effort off just 22 balls against South Africa earned him several records in the series-clinching second T20 International at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium here on Sunday night.

Suryakumar completed an 18-ball half-century, the joint-second-fastest for India in the format to push India in the middle and end overs. Yuvraj Singh still holds the record for his 12-ball fifty in the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup in 2007. Surya equaled KL Rahul’s feat to get to a brilliant fifty.

India set up a mammoth 237/3 in 20 overs in the second T20I of the three-match series and then restricted the Proteas to 221/3 to emerge victorious by 16 runs and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.

Suryakumar also created another record during his knock, getting to 1,000 T20I runs and becoming the quickest (in terms of balls faced) to the landmark. Australian allrounder Glenn Maxwell had held the record for getting there in 604 balls, but Yadav easily surpassed that, making the feat off his 573rd ball in T20Is.

The partnership between Virat Kohli and Surya Kumar (102 in 42 balls) was also India’s quickest stand of 100 runs or more in this format, according to ICC.

India also ensured their first-ever bilateral series win at home over South Africa. In the previous three series played in India, South Africa had come out on top once (2015) while the remaining two series were drawn (2019, 2022).

Put in to bat, India got off to a fine start with openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul putting on 96 in less than 10 overs. Kohli came out with good intent too, but it was Suryakumar who once again changed the entire complexion of the match.

India put on 237/3 batting first, their fourth-highest T20I total, a massive 141 runs coming in the last 10 overs. This was also the highest T20I total made against South Africa in T20Is.

In response, South Africa was reduced to 5/2 after Arshdeep Singh took two wickets in his first over, but Quinton de Kock and David Miller rebuilt with a century stand that gave South Africa a distant chance of scaling the target down.

Miller completed his second T20I ton off just 46 balls, but in the end, the target was too high for South Africa to chase down. The unbeaten 174-run stand between Miller and de Kock is now the highest for the fourth wicket or lower in T20Is.

Coinbase paused transactions in US for hours, restored now

0

Leading crypto exchange Coinbase paused transactions for users in the US owing to some technical issues and resolved them hours later.

In a tweet, the company said they were unable to take payments or make withdrawals involving US bank accounts.

“Our team is aware of this issue and is working on getting everything back to normal as soon as possible. You may use a debit card or PayPal account to make direct buys on your account should you wish,” it posted late on Sunday.

Coinbase said that users’ funds were “safe”.

A user posted: “Also unable to use our Coinbase cards to pay bills! Will this be resolved today?”

Another Coinbase user tweeted: “I have already called and spoke with a support member and have been told the transactions are not even making it to the card! I will wait till the end of the day but after that I have no choice but to move on from your platform!”

The company later announced that the ACH withdrawals, deposits, and buys failures were fixed and “this incident has been resolved”.

Coinbase users had to deal with delayed transactions with Solana for some days after its network suffered an outage on September 30.

Coinbase reported a massive loss in both revenue and profit in the June quarter — logging $1.1 billion in a net loss as revenue declined from $2.033 billion to $803 million from a year-ago quarter which is a sharp drop of nearly 60 percent. It also laid off 1,100 employees.

IND v SA: Surprised over getting man-of-the-match award, Suryakumar should have got it: KL Rahul

0

The second T20I match between India and South Africa at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium yielded an aggregate of 458 runs. From the run-fest, India opener KL Rahul made an eye-pleasing 57 off 28 balls, laced with five fours and four sixes, to set the foundation for 237/3.

It was Suryakumar Yadav who brought out full carnage of 360-degree shots with a sizzling 61 off just 22 balls, helped by five fours and as many hits over the fence, to power India towards a mammoth score.

But Rahul expressed surprise over him getting the Player-of-the-Match award in India’s 16-run win, which also clinched the series in their favor.

“I am surprised I am getting the Man-of-the-Match award, Surya should have gotten it. He changed the game. Having batted in the middle order, I have realized that it is difficult. DK doesn’t always get too many balls to face, and he was phenomenal, and so were Surya and Virat,” said Rahul in the post-match presentation ceremony.

In the last match against the Proteas at Thiruvananthapuram, Rahul had to hang around to making an unbeaten 51 off 56 balls. But in Guwahati, he was at his attacking best and taking the bowlers to the cleaners.

“It is important as an opener to understand what is required on a day and give it your best. It is the mindset I have always played in and will continue to do the same. Satisfying to test yourself in different conditions.

“The back-foot punch off the first ball set me up. When I play both sides of the wicket, I know my balance is good. It tells me my head is stable,” added Rahul.

Rahul admitted that during the 96-run opening stand, he and Rohit were looking at a total of around 180-185, but it went above that.

“Quite honestly, after the first two overs, the chat between me and Rohit was that the pitch was gripping. We thought 180-185 would be a good target. But the game surprises us.

“The crowds always turn up in India. It has been a while since cricket has been played in full stadiums. Phenomenal to see.”

Suryakumar, on the other hand, said it was important for him to maintain the tempo which Rahul and Rohit had set in the fiery start for India.

“We were batting first, so it was very clear that I had to keep the tempo that was set by Rahul and Rohit and I just went and enjoyed myself.

“He (David Miller) batted beautifully (for his 106) and I loved it. You just have to be planning really well when you are having the practice sessions (to second-guessing the bowlers). I didn’t think of any score as par, just wanted to bat as deep as possible and get as many runs.”

IND v SA, 2nd T20I: Death overs an area where we will be challenged with bat & ball, says Rohit Sharma

Though India eventually prevailed over South Africa in a run-fest to win the second T20I by 16 runs and take an unassailable 2-0 lead, skipper Rohit Sharma feels that death overs will continue to be an area where his side will be challenged with the bat as well as with the ball.

In a match yielding an aggregate of 458 runs at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, India’s batters made 82/1 in the death overs with the bat, feasting on South Africa’s ordinary bowling.

In response, the Indian bowlers also got some pasting from a whirlwind David Miller and Quinton de Kock, with Arshdeep Singh conceding 26 runs in the 19th over and Axar Patel giving away 20 runs in the final over.

However, it is to be noted that the bowlers struggled to grip the ball well in highly humid conditions, where the humidity levels were as high as 94% during the match in Guwahati.

“Yes, there is a concern to be honest, as we have not bowled well at the death in the last five or six games. We are doing the same to the opposition as well. To bowl and bat at the death is very tough. That is where the game is decided.”

“But that is the area where we will be challenged. We do it with the bat too. The expectations are high. It is not concerning, but we need to pick ourselves and get our act together,” said Sharma in the post-match presentation ceremony.

One thing which really stood out for India was the collective effort with the bat as they continued with their high-attacking approach in the format. Opener K.L Rahul made an eye-pleasing 57 of 28 balls before Suryakumar Yadav brought to put on display his full repertoire of 360-degree shots for a sizzling 61 off just 22 balls. Skipper Sharma himself made 43 while Virat Kohli was unbeaten on 49 and Dinesh Karthik applied to finish touches with two sixes and a four in his 17-not-out.

“It is something that all of came together for and said ‘this is what we wanted to do as a team. It might not come across at times, but we want to stick to it. What I have seen in the last 8-10 months is individuals putting their hand up and getting the job done for the team.”

“In the recent past, the focus has been on each individual to come in and do the job, we’ve moved forward from there. Guys without too much experience did this as well. The team wants to play and bowl in a certain way and we want to give them that confidence,” added Sharma.

Sharma signed off jokingly saying that he’s considering getting Suryakumar to skip matches until their T20 World Cup opener against Pakistan on October 23 at MCG. “I am thinking of not playing Surya anymore and playing him directly on the 23rd. This is how his game is and we just want to keep him happy.”

‘Adipurush’ teaser out; most precious film, says Prabhas

“Adipurush”, one of the most anticipated Indian films of 2023, whose first teaser was released here on Sunday, unites the talents of Prabhas (of the “Baahubali” franchise) and Om Raut, who directed the Ajay Devgn-starrer “Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior”, the biggest Indian box office hit of 2020, reports ‘Variety’.

“Adipurush” is Raut’s take on the ‘Ramayana’ by Valmiki. The film is set 7,000 years ago and in the film, Prabhas’s character is not called Lord Ram, he is Raghav, which is another name for Ram.

Sita, played by Kriti Sanon, is called Janaki (as in King Janaka’s daughter), while Saif Ali Khan’s Ravana is Lankesh (lord of Lanka), which are also derivatives of their ‘Ramayana’ names, notes ‘Variety’.

Adipurush literally means ‘first man, but here the interpretation is that of ‘best man.

Post “Tanhaji”, Raut could have called any Indian A-lister for his next film but he chose Prabhas. “I always had Prabhas in my mind when I was writing Raghav’s character — it became so compelling for me,” Raut said in a conversation with ‘Variety’. “If it was not him, I would have not made the film.”

Raut made it to Hyderabad from Mumbai in the middle of India’s first Covid-19 lockdown to discuss the film with Prabhas in person. The actor describes the meeting as a “super exciting day”.

“After three days, I got a little stressed because I thought it’s the most precious film for the country — can I do it?” Prabhas told ‘Variety’. “Om said not to worry and so it was a beautiful thing that happened. I think it’s the most prestigious film in my life.”

Prabhas says he signed on because of Raut’s intriguing screenplay and how it integrates the history and culture of India. “The way he designed the film was amazing, huge. And I think he made it very well,” Prabhas said.
