Makers of Nagarjuna-starrer ‘Ghost’ put out ‘release’ trailer

Even as actor Nagarjuna’s ‘The Ghost’ gets ready to hit screens on October 5, the makers of the film on Friday released what they called a ‘release trailer.

The initial action block in the release trailer is impressive. Nagarjuna’s character as ‘The Ghost’ is seen saying that money and success get you more enemies than happiness.

The trailer gives you the impression that the Ghost has many enemies. The list grows bigger after he assumes the responsibility of protecting his sister’s family from the underworld.

The trailer gives an idea of the intense performance that Nagarjuna has come up with for the film and it looks like the star has indeed performed some deadly stunts.

A small portion of almost every action block in the movie seems to have been presented in this latest trailer.

Praveen Sattaru is a specialist when it comes to delivering stylish action thrillers and ‘The Ghost’ is no exception.

Nagarjuna and Sonal Chauhan appear as Interpol officers in the film, while Gul Panag and Anika Surendran appear as Nagarjuna’s sister and niece respectively.

The duo of Bharath and Saurab has scored the songs for the film, which has cinematography and art direction by Mukesh G and Brahma Kadali, respectively. Dinesh Subbarayan and Kaecha have choreographed the stunts.

According to the report, maintaining its stellar performance, the insurance sector once again led the charts as it recorded a sequential growth of more than 90 percent YOY this month.

“The JobSpeak Index crossing the 3100 mark in Sep’22 is a great sign marking strong intent amongst recruiters before the festive period kicks in. It is notable to see that key sectors of Insurance and Real Estate have maintained their growth momentum and have recorded sterling performances,” Pawan Goyal, Chief Business Officer, Naukri.com, said in a statement.

Apart from Insurance, Real Estate has also shown a significant jump in hiring intent as it grew by over 66 percent YoY. Other sectors such as BFSI (64 percent), Travel and Hospitality (48 percent), Oil and Gas (43 percent), and Retail (17 percent) also continue to do well.

Among metros, Mumbai topped the hiring charts as it witnessed more than 27 percent YoY growth. Other metros exhibited positive annual hiring growth, barring Bengaluru (minus 8 percent).

RBI looks at securitisation of NPAs, provisioning on expected loss basis for banks

0

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will come out with discussion papers on adopting an expected loss-based approach for loan loss provisioning and on the securitization of stressed assets framework, Governor Shaktikanta Das said.

He also said new guidelines on the regional rural banks (RRB) allowing internet banking facilities to their customers will be issued soon.

According to Das, the proposed guidelines for securitization will be in addition to the ones that are in vogue.

In September 2021, the RBI issued the revised framework for the securitization of standard assets.

As regards securitization of non-performing assets, the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest (SARFAESI) Act, 2002, currently provides a framework for such securitizations to be undertaken by Asset Reconstruction Companies (ARCs) licensed under the Act.

However, based on market feedback, stakeholder consultations, and the recommendations of the Task Force on Development of Secondary Market for Corporate Loans, it has been decided to introduce a framework for securitization of stressed assets in addition to the ARC route, similar to the framework for securitization of standard assets.

The RBI is also looking at making banks provide for loan loss based on the expected loss approach from the incurred loss approach.

The discussion papers on the above two issues will be issued by RBI, Das said on Friday while announcing the bi-monthly monetary policy.

In order to promote the spread of digital banking, the RBI will revise its norms for RRBs allowing internet banking for its customers.

Tech giant Google has announced it is upgrading its text-to-speech (TTS) by Google speech engine by providing clearer, more natural voices.

The company said that all 421 voices in 67 languages have been upgraded with a new voice model and synthesizer.

“If you already use TTS and the Speech Services by Google engine, there is nothing to do — everything will happen behind the scenes as your users will have automatically downloaded the latest update. We have seen a significant side-by-side quality increase with this change, particularly with respect to clarity and naturalness,” the platform said on its developers’ page.

“With this upgrade, we will also be changing the default voice in en-US to one that is built using fresher speaker data, which alongside our new stack, results in a drastic improvement. If your users have not selected a system voice, and you rely on system defaults, they will hear a slightly different speaker,” it added.

This update will be rolling out to all 64-bit Android devices via the Google Play Store over the next few weeks as a part of the Speech Services by Google apk.

Apple Watch Series 8 keeps a close health watch on you!

0

When Apple decided to make its Watch more than just a device to stay connected, the writing was clear on the wall — introduce useful health tools that keep people safe from health emergencies 24/7.

Fall detection, ECG, atrial fibrillation (A-fib) detection, heart rate and oxygen level monitoring, etc created more than a buzz and several people have documented how they received critical help from their Apple Watch which saved their lives.

Taking those learnings further, Apple Watch Series 8 has arrived with more innovative health features, including an innovative temperature sensor that enables advanced features for women’s health, and Crash Detection in case of a car crash.

The new wearable introduces temperature-sensing capabilities, retrospective ovulation estimates, low-power mode, and international roaming.

Apple Watch Series 8 is powered by watchOS 9, introducing new and more customizable watch faces like Lunar and Metropolitan, an enhanced Workout app, sleep stages, a first-of-its-kind AFib History feature, and an all-new Medications app.

Let us see if Watch Series can become your trusted doctor-companion on the go.

Crash Detection is a very useful feature on Indian killer roads. According to data collected by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), there are nearly 1.5 lakh deaths on India’s roads every year, of which one-third are accounted for by National Highways.

An advanced sensor-fusion algorithm leverages a new, more powerful gyroscope and accelerometer on Apple Watch, which now has the highest dynamic range accelerometer in any smartwatch.

To create the algorithm, data was collected from these new motion sensors at professional crash test labs with common passenger cars in simulated real-world accidents, including head-on, rear-end, side-impact, and rollovers.

In addition to motion data, Crash Detection uses the barometer, GPS, and the microphone on iPhone as inputs to detect the unique patterns that can indicate whether a severe crash has taken place.

When Apple Watch detects a severe car crash, the device will check in with the user and dial emergency services if they are unresponsive after a 10-second countdown.

Emergency responders will receive the user’s device location, which is also shared with the user’s emergency contacts, according to Apple.

Another unique offering is a new temperature-sensing capability that gives women further insights into their health.

Apple Watch Series 8 takes a unique approach to temperature sensing with a two-sensor design.

The sensors in Apple Watch Series 8 sample the wrist temperature during sleep every five seconds and measure changes as small as 0.1 degrees Celsius.

In the Health app, users can see nightly shifts in baseline temperature, which can be caused by exercise, jet lag, or even illness.

Utilizing the new temperature-sensing capabilities in Apple Watch Series 8, one can receive retrospective ovulation estimates.

Additionally, with iOS 16 and watchOS 9, all Cycle Tracking users can now receive a notification if their logged cycle history shows a possible deviation, such as irregular, infrequent, or prolonged periods, and persistent spotting, which can be symptoms of underlying health conditions.

Apple Watch uses signals from the accelerometer and heart rate sensor to estimate when users are in rapid eye movement (REM), Core, or Deep sleep.

The new Medications tool will help you manage and track medications, vitamins, and supplements, create a medication list and set up schedules and reminders.

Starting from Rs 45,900, Apple Watch Series 8 also offers an Always-On Retina display and a strong crack-resistant front crystal, with longer battery life.

It is available in India in aluminum and stainless steel cases in two sizes, 41mm and 45mm, in starlight, midnight, silver, and (PRODUCT)RED colors.

Conclusion: Apple Watch Series 8 elevates your overall fitness and health experience. Covid has taught us the importance of staying healthy and this device only supplements your daily goals, while keeping a close watch on you!

Renu Desai returns to big screen after 18 yrs with Ravi Teja’s ‘Tiger Nageswara Rao’

Nearly two decades after she dazzled on the screen in Tollywood, Renu Desai is all set to return to the big screen in the upcoming Ravi Teja-starrer ‘Tiger Nageswara Rao’, a biopic based on a notorious thief and is set in the 70s in the village named Stuartpuram.

The makers on Thursday came up with a small teaser to introduce Renu Desai’s character.

Renu essays a very important and powerful character called Hemavathi Lavanam in the movie. It’s a real-life character and Hemalatha Lavanam was an Indian social worker and writer, who protested against untouchability and the imbalance in the social system.

In the video, the actress makes a powerful entry, as she walks on the road along with two other female activists who appear in white sarees.

Renu last acted in the 2003 release Telugu movie ‘Johnny’, her second movie opposite Pawan Kalyan. She has acted in only two movies in Telugu, both of them opposite Pawan Kalyan. The two went on to marry but got divorced in 2012.

While Renu has been active in other areas of filmmaking, she never donned the grease paint for the big screen till now.

Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja and director Vamsee’s ‘Tiger Nageswara Rao, to be produced by Abhishek Agarwal, is set to be one more pan-India movie from the south.

Nupur Sanon and Gayathri Bharadwaj are playing the leading ladies opposite Ravi Teja in the movie made in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi languages.

R Madhya ISC is the cinematographer and GV Prakash Kumar takes care of the music. Avinash Kolla is the production designer. Srikanth Visa is the dialogue writer, while Mayank Singhania is the co-producer.

BJP fighting family-based parties, Odisha needs double-engine govt: Nadda

BJP national President Jagat Prakash Nadda said on Thursday that the saffron party is fighting family-based parties in various parts of the country, including in Odisha.

Addressing booth-level workers at the Janata Maidan here, Nadda said BJP is the biggest political party in the world with a strength of 18 crores.

“There is no party in the world with such strength. We are an ideology-based national party. For us, it is always nation first, but keeping in mind the regional aspirations,” he said.

“This is a cadre-based party with a mass following. After the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, we formed government in Bihar, Assam, and Puducherry for the first time… So, we are a national party with the government in maximum states,” Nadda said.

“Today we are fighting against the Indian National Congress, but the party no longer remains national nor Indian as it has become a party of brother and sister,” he said.

“We are also fighting against dynasty-based parties. Abdullahs and Muftis in Jammu & Kashmir, Chautalas in Haryana, Badals in Punjab, Akhilesh in UP, Yadav in Bihar, and Soren in Jharkhanda. In Odisha it is one man party… We are fighting parties run by families,” he added.

“Dynasty politics is also prevalent in Odisha with the presence of Biju Patnaik’s party. BJP is the only party that is not family-based and is driven by ideology,” said the BJP chief.

Nadda also informed the party workers about the steps taken by the Narendra Modi government for providing safe drinking water, power supply, pucca houses, toilets, etc. for the people of Odisha.

Institutions like AIIMS, IIM, NISER, and many medical colleges have been set up by the Modi government in Odisha, he said.

“The first tribal President of India, Droupadi Murmu, is from Odisha and more than 15 persons from the state have been conferred with Padma awards. This was never the case during the UPA rule and shows PM Modi’s immense love for the state,” he added.

Taking a dig at the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government in Odisha, Nadda said, “This government puts labels on Central schemes. The PM Awas Yojana is being branded as Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana. While 50 crore people have been included under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, 60 lakh people in Odisha are deprived of it.”

The Centre has allocated Rs 15,490 crore to Odisha under MGNREGA but fake bills are being made here, he said.

“Similarly, crores of rupees are being spent under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). Yet tribal women in Odisha are going to ponds and wells to fetch drinking water. It shows that the Naveen Patnaik-led government is riddled with corruption,” the BJP chief said.

Claiming that protectors have become perpetrators of crime in Odisha, Nadda said, “The state of governance in Odisha can be gauged from the fact that three ministers are accused of murder.”

Nadda added that even the ‘Ratna Bhandar’ of Lord Jagannath is not safe in Odisha.

“Ratna Bhandar’s key was missing and later a duplicate key was found. Uproot this type of duplicate government and bring BJP to power in Odisha,” he said.

“The BJD has been ruling Odisha for 20 years, yet it has failed to ensure ambulance service for pregnant women in the remote areas,” the BJP leader claimed.

It’s time to uproot this government and bring a double-engine ‘sarkar’ for development, Nadda told the party workers.

The BJP President is on a two-day visit to the state. This is Canada’s first visit to Odisha after being appointed as BJP chief.

Google to shut Cloud gaming service Stadia on Jan 18, 2023

0

In shocking news to gaming fans, Google on Thursday announced to shut down its cloud gaming service Stadia, admitting that it hasn’t gained the traction the company had expected.

Many of the employees on the Stadia team will be distributed to other parts of the company.

“We’ve made the difficult decision to begin winding down our Stadia streaming service,” said Phil Harrison, Vice President and General Manager, Stadia

The service will remain life for players until January 18, 2023.

Google said it will refund all Stadia hardware purchased through the Google Store as well as all the games and add-on content purchased from the Stadia store.

Google expects those refunds will be completed in mid-January.

“While Stadia’s approach to streaming games for consumers was built on a strong technology foundation, it hasn’t gained the traction with users that we expected,” said Harrison.

Players will continue to have access to their games library and play through January 18, 2023, so they can complete the final play sessions.

“We expect to have the majority of refunds completed by mid-January, 2023,” said the company.

Google said it will continue to invest in new tools, technologies, and platforms that power the success of developers, industry partners, cloud customers, and creators.

“We’re so grateful for the groundbreaking work of the team and we look forward to continuing to have an impact across the gaming and other industries using the foundational Stadia streaming technology,” said the company.

Google said that it sees clear opportunities to apply Stadia technology across other parts like YouTube, Google Play, and our Augmented Reality (AR) efforts as well as make it available to its industry partners.

PM Modi declares 36th National Games open in Ahmedabad

0

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday declared the 36th National Games open at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

A total of 7,000 athletes from 36 states/UTs are participating in the National Games which will conclude on October 12.

Addressing the gathering, Modi said that after the BJP-led NDA formed the government at the Centre, budgetary allocation for sports has increased, as a result of which Indian sportspersons are cornering glory at the international level now.

“Earlier our sportspersons were participating in 25 disciplines in 100 international events, which has now gone up to 40 disciplines in more than 300 international events. The government is also planning to make use of retired sportspersons’ skills to train the new generation.

“Constant efforts are being made to encourage and promote sports in the country now. If the youth achieve success in the field of sports, they can succeed in other fields as well,” he said.

The Prime Minister also advised the youth to focus on the three Cs — competition, commitment, and continuity — to achieve success in life.

‘Silver-haired, balding reservists in Russia are heading to front lines’

0

Pictures show how Russian President Vladimir Putin has resorted to sending a ‘Dad’s Army’ of aging reservists to the Ukrainian front lines, the media reported.

Putin ordered the mobilization of 300,000 extra troops last week in a bid to reverse the fortunes of his botched invasion, in a move which spooked thousands who fled the country, Daily Mail reported

But other hardy civilians decided to join the war effort despite their age, health, and limited training, to bolster troop numbers after Kyiv’s stunning counter-offensive, Daily Mail reported.

In Sevastopol in Crimea, silver-haired and wrinkled recruits stood in line in their uniforms at a ceremony before they took a much-needed cigarette break and then made their way to the front lines, Daily Mail reported.

The images, taken on Tuesday less than a week after Putin’s order, show how rushed the mobilization has been, compared to the six months’ minimum training usually provided.

“Whilst exact numbers are unclear, it likely exceeds the size of the total invasion force Russia fielded in February 2022.

“The better off and well educated are over-represented amongst those attempting to leave Russia. When combined with those reservists who are being mobilized, the domestic economic impact of reduced availability of labor and the acceleration of ‘brain drain’ is likely to become increasingly significant.”

Those sent to war were already lamenting the outdated equipment and poor morale just weeks after the outbreak of war, an investigation by the New York Times claims.

Unauthorized phone calls made by soldiers to their families in March via shared cell phones among units near Bucha were intercepted by Ukraine and translated by the Times.

Many troops revealed the Kremlin had lied about the purpose of the war, showing an early insight into the reality on the ground.

One man named Sergey told his girlfriend: “Some guys took armour off of Ukrainians’ corpses and took it for themselves. Their NATO armor is better than ours.”

The dire situation for the troops led to Putin’s mobilization order, which came as Ukrainian forces dealt heavy battlefield setbacks to Moscow.

The mass exodus has created miles-long lines for days at some borders, and local Russian authorities in one area along the border with Georgia said they would start providing food, water, warming stations, and other aid to those in line, Daily Mail reported.

National Games: Gujarat women start with win in tennis; West Bengal women pip Assam in Lawn Bowls Fours

0

Gujarat began their defense of the National Games women’s team tennis title with a commanding win over Telangana while the West Bengal women’s Lawn Balls team registered a stunning 12-11 victory over Assam to maintain its winning momentum in the 36th National Games on Thursday.

Tennis action began at the picturesque Sabarmati Riverfront Sports Complex on Thursday. Gujarat women dropped just four games in securing a 2-0 verdict against Telangana. They will now meet Karnataka for a place in the final. Karnataka ran out 2-0 winners against Uttar Pradesh.

In the other semifinal, Maharashtra will lock horns with Tamil Nadu, who wriggled out of a tight spot against Haryana. Maharashtra had defeated Delhi 2-0.

At the Kensville Golf and Country Club where Lawn Balls action is taking place, the West Bengal team held their nerves to quell Assam’s fightback to register their second win in the Group and virtually assure themselves of a semifinal berth.

The Assam Fours team, led by Birmingham Commonwealth Games participant Tania Choudhary, and comprising Bangita Hazarika, Adinita Kakoty, and Ananya Saikia, were trailing 1-5 after the first two ends but clawed back to level 7-7.

Bengal, which fielded Renu Mohfa, Manisha Srivastava, Reema Pawa, and Anchor Malhotra, held their nerves to regain a slender 11-10 lead in the penultimate 11th end and kept their noses ahead at the finish.

“As expected, it was a close match between teams who have experienced campaigners. It is a setback, especially because we made our way to the semifinals. But every loss teaches you something, and we will try to pick the positives and beat Gujarat on Friday. We hope to get back stronger against the home side,” Tania Choudhary said after the loss.

In other Lawn Bowls matches, hosts Gujarat dominated the proceedings against Manipur to register a 12-10 win while Lawn Bowls powerhouse Jharkhand made light work of Odisha to record a 33-3 win. In another contest, Delhi got the better of Bihar by a 20-9 margin.

At the shooting range, 2012 Olympic Games silver medallist Vijay Kumar (Himachal Pradesh) soaked in the pressure well to be lying second behind Ankur Goel (Uttarakhand) and ahead of the in-form Anish Bhanwala (Haryana) after the first stage of the men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol competition.

Sri Karthik Sabari Raj (Tamil Nadu) topped the men’s 10m Air Rifle qualification charts with 632.2 points, leaving the likes of Aishwary PS Tomar (Madhya Pradesh) Rudranksh B Patil (Maharashtra), Divyansh Singh Panwar (Rajasthan), Hriday Hazarika (Assam) and Arjun Babuta (Punjab) in his wake.

Similarly, in the women’s 10m Air Rifle qualification, Tilottama Sen (Karnataka) finished on top with 633.6 points. Priyanka Sarangi (Odisha), Yukthi Rajendra (Karnataka) 629.3, and Nancy (Haryana) placed above Elavenil Valarivan (Gujarat) and Mehuli Ghosh (West Bengal) but the final will come with its own set of challenges.

At the EKA TransStadia Arena, the Delhi women’s team stunned West Bengal 36-0 to book a Rugby 7s semifinal berth against Maharashtra while the West Bengal men’s team showed Services the exit with a 24-12 win in the quarterfinals.

In the men’s Netball semifinals in Bhavnagar, Gujarat stretched Telangana to the limit, losing by a wafer-thin margin after opening up a 30-28 lead at half-time. Telangana turned the tables on the home side by pressing hard in the third quarter for a 45-42 advantage. Gujarat fought lion-heartedly and held the upper hand in the final quarter but lost 53-55.

Kabaddi action will restart after a day’s break on Friday with Services facing Uttar Pradesh and Haryana taking on Maharashtra in the men’s semifinals on Friday. The fight for places in the women’s final will pit Maharashtra against Tamil Nadu and Haryana against Himachal Pradesh.
