Kim Kardashian reveals why she struggles to say ‘no’ to people

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian has unveiled that she hates being asked for favors. She shared that she has “a problem saying no to people.”

The 41-year-old star said: “I do have a problem saying no to people, so I hate when people ask me for things. It’s like, ‘Hey, will you do this work thing, it’ll just be two seconds.’ And I’m like, ‘It’s not that easy.”

“I’m coming from Calabasas, which is an hour each way.’ It takes about two hours in glam, so if someone asks me to do a five-minute cameo, it’s never just that. But, with all my friends and family, no one ever really asks me for anything or needs anything. We’re all just cool.”

Kim has enjoyed huge success during her career, and she has a massive following on social media, too. However, the ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ star still struggles with her self-confidence, reports aceshowbiz.com.

She told Interview magazine: “It’s so weird. I have a problem being super confident. I’ve always been more self-deprecating, and I get shy when it comes to, ‘Describe yourself. Talk about yourself.’ Things like that.”

Kim was married to Kanye between 2014 and 2022, and she admits that their relationship helped to transform how she’s perceived.

The reality TV star, who split from comedian Pete Davidson earlier this year, said: “I mean when I was with Kanye, and he was introducing me to a lot of people, I think that definitely got a lot of people to have a different level of respect.”

“I’ve also seen a s**t more recently – going to law school, just doing what I want and becoming my own person and people seeing that and respecting that. There are levels to it.”

Ranbir calls ‘Highway’ Alia’s best, became a fan of hers after seeing film

Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor, who is awaiting the release of his highly anticipated movie ‘Brahmastra’, recently opened up on his favorite performance of his wife, Alia Bhatt.

Alia, who made her debut with the 2012 film ‘Student Of The Year’, has had quite an eventful journey in cinema as she has constantly delivered terrific performances one after the other but, after all these years, Ranbir’s favorite performance of Alia remains her second film, ‘Highway’.

Talking about it, Ranbir said in an IMDb Original video, “She’s probably had the best year any artist has ever had, in the history of actors. She’s had ‘Gangubai’, she’s had ‘RRR’, she’s had ‘Darlings’. And now she’s going to have ‘Brahmastra’.

“The obvious choice would be ‘Gangubai’, but I actually became a fan of Alia from her second film onwards, and that was ‘Highway’

Ranbir added: “I was really looking forward to this film and I actually saw it in the edit. I just knew that this was the birth of an actor which is probably… Indian cinema and world cinema weren’t ready. I hadn’t seen an actor deliver what she did in that film and I think I became a huge admirer of her work since then.”

For Alia, Ranbir’s performance in ‘Barfi!’ (which was incidentally released in the same year when she made her screen debut) takes the cake.

Talking about her husband’s performance in ‘Barfi!’, the actress said, “I think it is just so simple, funny at the same time, so heartbreaking. He literally did not speak throughout the film, did everything through his eyes, and that was the most beautiful part. It is one of my favorite, most impactful Ranbir Kapoor performances.”

As ‘Brahmastra’ nears its release, the film has become a part of their DNA now as Ranbir mentioned in the video, “It’s been five years. Ayan, Alia, and I are also really close friends, so on every occasion in our lives, if it’s a birthday, if it’s Diwali, if it’s Christmas, if it’s our marriage, we were always talking about ‘Brahmstra’. So, it never really left our system.”

‘Brahmastra’, directed by Ayan Mukerji, will drop in theatres on September 9.

Tiafoe beats Nadal to secure quarters berth; crashes Spaniard’s dream of fifth US Open crown

0

Spanish stalwart Rafael Nadal was sent packing from the US Open on Tuesday (IST) with Frances Tiafoe accounting for the 36-year-old winner of 22 singles Grand Slam titles, as the American secured a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win and a place in the quarterfinals in New York.

This will be 24-year-old Tiafoe’s second Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance after his 2019 run at the Australian Open. Tiafoe has never progressed beyond the quarterfinals in majors.

The strongly-built Tiafoe played fearless tennis throughout the three-hour, 31-minute contest inside the Arthur Ashe Stadium to earn his third top-5 victory. He hammered the ball off both wings to become the first American man to reach the last-eight at Flushing Meadows since John Isner in 2018. He has also become the youngest to accomplish the feat since Andy Roddick in 2006.

“I’m beyond happy, almost in tears, I can’t believe it,” Tiafoe was quoted as saying by ATP after the match. “I played unbelievable tennis today. I really don’t know what happened.”

Tiafoe had not won a set against Nadal in his previous two clashes with the Spanish great. However, he struck 49 winners to turn the game on its head, gaining revenge for his quarterfinal loss at the Australian Open in 2019.

“At 4-3 (in the fourth set), when I went up 40/0, my legs were like cement,” Tiafoe said. “I just needed to get out of the game and then pray to god that I don’t have to serve for it. I was lucky enough to get out of that game. I came out not giving Rafa all the respect. I came out to win a tennis match if front of you guys.”

Toafoe seeded 22nd, will next play Andrey Rublev after the ninth seed Russian defeated Great Britain’s Cameron Norrie 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.

Nadal was chasing his fifth US Open crown. He is currently No. 1 in the ATP Live Rankings. However, Nadal’s loss has opened the door for compatriot Carlos Alcaraz and Norway’s Casper Ruud to emerge as the new No. 1.

“When I first came on the scene I felt like a lot of people had a lot of expectations on me on how I would do,” Tiafoe said. “I wasn’t ready for it mentally. I wasn’t mature enough for it. These past couple of years, when the tension hasn’t been on me I have been able to develop. I have a great team behind me. I am just putting my head down and I am happy with where I am in life in general. I am able to do me and do it my way and enjoy the game I love.”

For the record, Tiafoe’s win against the Spaniard is the biggest by an American man at the US Open since James Blake defeated the-then world No. 2 Spaniard in the third round in 2005.

Mirabai Chanu made Big B perform Manipuri folk dance on ‘KBC 14’

Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu requested megastar Amitabh Bachchan to perform the Manipuri folk dance Thabal Chongba along with her on ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 14’.

Commonwealth Games 2022 gold medalist boxer Nikhat Zareen and weightlifter Chanu took over the hot seat on the show.

During the game, Big B asked them a question about the traditional dance performances at the Yaoshang Festival(a five-day festival celebrated during spring) in Manipur, and Chanu being from the same state was aware of the answer and she chose the correct option that is Thabal Chongba.

Later, she taught him the dance steps to perform along with her and Nikhat. She asked Bachchan: “There is a small request if you could join me on stage to perform a few steps.”

Big B also enquired the ace sports personalities about the strict diet regime that they follow while training and to this Mirabai told him that she loves pizza: “I am so fond of pizza but have to avoid it.” Nikhat said that she is a big foodie and she often misses Hyderabadi biryani.

Furthermore, at the request of Zareen, he delivered the famous dialogue, ‘Rishtey mein to hum tumhare baap lagte hai’ from his 1988 movie ‘Shahenshah’ in Hyderabadi.

She mentioned: “Please say the iconic dialogue, ‘Rishtey mein to hum tumhare baap lagte hai’ in Hyderabadi’

Bachchan laughed and replied: “You requested me to do something wrong as I am not your father firstly and I don’t know this language but If you say, I will follow you.”

He also recreated the scene from his 1990 blockbuster film ‘Agneepath’ at Chanu’s request. He enacted his character of Vijay Deenanath Chauhan, saying the line: “Vijay Deenanath Chauhan, baap ka Naam Dinanath Chauhan, Umar 36 saal, 9 Mahina, 8 dins aur ye 16 ghante chaalu hai’.

US to probe Amazon over its iRobot, One Medical acquisitions

0

E-commerce giant Amazon is facing more enormous scrutiny by the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) into its latest proposed acquisitions of robot vacuum maker iRobot and 1Life Healthcare, which operates primary care provider One Medical.

Amazon announced its proposed acquisition of One Medical for $3.9 billion in July and iRobot for $1.7 billion in August.

According to a report in Politico, the FTC has officially started a review of Amazon’s takeover of iRobot over antitrust concerns.

“The next step would be formally opening an in-depth probe of the iRobot deal, which the people said is expected given the detailed questions from agency officials,” the report mentioned.

The FTC is concerned that the data generated about a consumer’s home by iRobot’s Roomba vacuum will give Amazon an unfair advantage over market players.

“For example, Amazon could have an advantage with a consumer looking to buy a couch, by using detailed home maps generated by iRobot to suggest particular items,” the report said.

1Life Healthcare has also said that the FTC opened up an in-depth review of its takeover by Amazon.

Amazon did not comment on the FTC probes.

After the acquisition, iRobot laid off 10 percent of its workforce — nearly 140 workers.

The company said that to align its cost structure with near-term revenue better, it is in the process of initiating a “restructuring of its operations”.

Amazon’s proposed acquisitions of One Medical and iRobot came after it bought movie studio MGM for $8.45 billion.

One Medical combines in-person care in inviting offices across the country with digital health and virtual care services, making it easier for patients to schedule appointments, renew prescriptions, access up-to-date health records, and advance health outcomes.

Cricket Australia appoint first-ever independent ethics commissioner

0

In a first, Cricket Australia (CA) on Tuesday appointed Simon Longstaff as an independent ethics commissioner, who will advise the national sport’s governing body on matters that might arise, “including but not limited to administration, governance, transparency and on or off-field behavior”.

Longstaff will have direct access to the CA chairman and board for advice on ethical matters, according to a statement issued by Cricket Australia.

Longstaff is not new to the role as he led the independent organizational review into Australian cricket in 2018 as executive director of The Ethics Centre.

Australian cricket was in the midst of a massive ethical crisis in 2018 when three of its players, including the-then Test skipper Steve Smith, his then deputy David Warner and Cameron Bancroft, were allegedly involved in ball-tampering during the Test series in South Africa.

The trio was banned for varying periods not exceeding a year in the wake of the scandal, which also came to be known as ‘Sandpaper-gate’.

“CA has actioned the majority of recommendations of this report and Dr. Longstaff’s pivotal role in the review makes him an ideal candidate to take up this position. The Ethics Commissioner role will work collaboratively with the CA Board, State and Territory Associations, and the Australian Cricketers’ Association,” said the CA statement.

“The creation of the role of CA Ethics Commissioner, and Dr. Longstaff’s appointment, are significant steps for Australian cricket,” said CA Chair Lachlan Henderson.

“Not only have we embraced the key recommendations of The Ethics Centre Review, but this initiative will also help to ensure the best process to review ethical issues in cricket that might arise in the future.

“The CA Board and our State and Territory colleagues are committed to improving governance structures in cricket and the Ethics Commissioner will provide a vital reference point for issues that impact CA and the game more broadly.

“Having led the 2018 review, Dr. Longstaff has a detailed understanding of the challenges the game has faced and the progress that has been made in recent times. We look forward to working with him for the betterment of cricket,” he added.

Longstaff had become the first executive Director of The Ethics Centre in 1991 and has experience in providing advice on ethics to professional organizations. In 2013 he was awarded the Order of Australia for “distinguished service to the community through the promotion of ethical standards in governance and business, to improving corporate responsibility, and to philosophy.”

Asia Cup 2022: Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Rizwan to undergo follow-up scan on right knee

0

Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan, who had scored a crucial half-century in the team’s thrilling victory against India in the Asia Cup Super Four stage at the Dubai International Stadium on September 4 (Sunday), has been sent for scans following an injury to his right knee.

Rizwan had suffered the injury in the 15th over of the India innings when he fell down awkwardly trying to collect a bouncer from Mohammad Hasnain from well over his head.

Rizwan was in pain right away and the Pakistan physio rushed to the ground to tend to him. Despite the pain and discomfort, Rizwan went on to bat and made a crucial contribution to Pakistan, acting as the chief architect in the run chase with a 51-ball 71.

Reports suggest the opening batter had undergone an MRI scan after the game, but a follow-up scan has been also recommended as a precautionary measure, according to ICC, quoting media reports.

Rizwan is the leading run-scorer in this edition of the Asia Cup with 192 runs, including two half-toms in three matches. He has scored 1,521 T20I runs since the start of 2021, the most by any player in men’s T20Is.

Pakistan has been hit by a spate of injuries during their Asia Cup campaign, with pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi ruled out before the tournament and Mohammad Wasim and Shahnawaz Dahani side-lined during the event.

Pakistan takes on Afghanistan on Wednesday in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup.

Rupee has held its own despite sharp depreciation in other currencies: RBI Governor

0

Despite extreme volatility in global stock markets, especially after US Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell’s Jackson Hole symposium remarks last week, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das said on Monday that the Indian rupee has “held its own” and moved in an “orderly manner at a time of sharp depreciation in other currencies”.

“The recent commentary from the US Fed at Jackson Hole on the future trajectory of US monetary policy has infused substantial volatility into global financial markets, with large spillovers and knock-on effects on emerging market economies (EMEs),” Das said while delivering a speech during the annual event of Fixed Income Money Market and Derivatives Association of India (FIMMDA).

He, however, quickly went on to add that the RBI has intervened in forex markets to prevent excessive volatility in the exchange rate.

“RBI’s policy is to prevent excessive volatility of the rupee, or the exchange rate and also anchor expectations around the currency’s depreciation,” he said.

Das further indicated that the central bank’s monetary policy, going forward, will be “watchful, nimble-footed and calibrated”.

He also said that India is widely perceived to be the fastest growing economy in the world this year at a time when other major economies may actually be encountering recession or considerable moderation in their growth momentum.

Referring to Powell’s comments on keeping up with rate hikes, Das said that financial markets in India have recovered from the lows that they fell to in the immediate aftermath of the Jackson Hole event.

“In this turbulent global environment, the resilience exhibited by Indian financial markets reflects the robust macroeconomic fundamentals of the economy,” he added.

Last week, Powell, while speaking at the Jackson Hole symposium, indicated that the US Federal Reserve is likely to keep the interest rates high for some time.

The comment had led to large-scale volatility in global markets.

Next-gen GoPro likely to retain old design with new sensor

0

US-based action camera manufacturer GoPro is planning to launch its flagship Hero11 Black with a new sensor and an old design.

The upcoming action camera might look identical to the Hero10, which was launched last year. All the significant changes will be made on the inside, as revealed by photographs and specifications, reports The Verge.

The biggest upgrade sounds like a new sensor, which will reportedly be capable of 27MP still images as the current Hero10 Black, for comparison, shoots 23MP photos.

The new model will reportedly still cap out at 5.3K at 60 frames per second, or 4K at 120 fps.

According to a recent report, the new model may include two displays, one at the back and the other next to the camera sensor at the front.

Meanwhile, GoPro Hero10 Black was launched in India last year for Rs 54,500 with a new GP2 processor.

The new processor enables HyperSmooth 4.0 video stabilization for steadier shots. It also ensures higher resolution 23MP photos and improved low-light performance.

GoPro Hero10 Black also has the ability to use the camera as a webcam for Zoom and Team calls.

Abhilipsa Panda is a Karate black belt and national-level champion, and a winner of the Odisha Super Singer contest, and Jeetu Sharma is a rising YouTube star who has been making a living off the music-sharing site since 2020. Together, they have spun out a sensation produced at Jamshedpur studio.

But they are not alone. Here is the IANS selection of the five Shiva songs that are burning the Internet, riding on the extensive penetration of the 4G network.

1. Nirvana Shatakam: The track has been created by the Sadhguru-inspired Sounds of Isha from the chant that goes back to Adi Shankara. It embodies the essence of ‘vairagya’, or renunciation of worldly pleasures, or the path of Brahmacharya.

The Nirvana Shatakam’s six verses are inspired by the philosophy that attachment to one’s corporeal body and the pleasure of the sense organs is the root cause of all sorrow and needs to be abandoned to achieve self-realization.

2. Shiva Kailasho Ke Vaasi: This intensely devotional song has been composed by Hansraj Raghuwanshi in a downtempo progression. It makes good use of traditional instruments such as the tabla, bamboo flute, and the manjeera. The lyrics talk about the blessings rendered by Lord Shiva to his followers.

The song appeals to a broad audience, mainly millennials, thanks to its rhythm and relatable lyrics. Interestingly, Raghuwanshi. who also features in the music video, has dreadlocks similar to those of Lord Shiva’s ‘jatayein’. Unsurprisingly, he’s known among fans as ‘Babaji’.

3. Om Namah Shivaya – Psy Trance Mix: The track, which is popular in the party circuit from Anjuna to Ibiza, takes the basic Lord Shiva mantra and gives it a psychedelic progressive spin. It has a limited fan following in India, but it finds audiences across the world, given its psychedelic appeal and not being hemmed in by any language barrier. Shiva is going global and this psy trance track is one of the most powerful drivers of the phenomenon.

4. Mera Bhola Hai Bhandari: Another favorite of the Internet, this one, too. has been composed by Hansraj Raghuwanshi in collaboration with Suresh Verma. The music video of the song, which fuses Hindi and Pahari lyrics, features exquisite locations across North India, including the snow-clad mountains. The song has been used in countless Instagram reels as well as TikTok and other short-format content that travels with lightning speed across the Internet.

5. Har Har Shambhu Shiva Mahadeva: Coming back to the song we started with, this Shiva ‘stotra’ has been crafted by using VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins and presents an up-tempo progression as it uses elements of dubstep and hip-hop violins.
