Manushi Chhillar on how she prepped for her role in ‘Prithviraj’

0

Mumbai, May 20 Bollywood debutante Manushi Chhillar reveals her preparation for her role in Akshay Kumar-starrer ‘Prithviraj’ which is based on the life of Prithviraj Chauhan.

Manushi shares: “The preparation schedule for me was long and intense. Adi sir and my director Dr Chandraprakash ji wanted me to go through the drill before I even gave my first shot and looking back, I’m thankful that I put in the hard work.”

The actress shares that she also worked on her dancing skills for this movie: “I’m a trained classical dancer and this film made me brush up my dancing skills because I have three songs in the film! I had to nail the choreography, especially in ‘Hadd Kar De’. It is a beautiful Holi song and it needed me to be precise and also exhibit the fact that I could dance well. I hope that I have been able to show people that I’m a hard-working actor who is seeking perfection from my first film.”

She adds: “I have miles to go and lots to learn but my eyes are on the prize. I had to also pick up some interesting skill sets like archery and horse-riding! I have to admit that I had a lot of fun learning these. I learned horse riding as a kid because my father used to take me and my siblings for horse riding so I kind of knew the basics of it but I never had to hold the reins or gallop with the horse.”

“I have a horse riding sequence, however, I am sitting behind sir. So, it was interesting to do that sequence. I’m a student of art. So, every day was special on the sets of the film because I could learn so much and return the next day, hungry for more,” she concludes.

‘Prithviraj’ has been directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi. The film is set to release on June 3 in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

Now Amazon takes a dig at metaverse as Zuckerberg makes grand plans

0

San Francisco/New Delhi, May 20 As Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg moves ahead with his grand metaverse plans, David Limp, who is Amazon’s head of devices, has said that their company would rather focus on technology that affects the real world “here and now”.

Addressing the ‘Future of Everything Festival’ by The Wall Street Journal, Limp said that even with current technology like smartphones and wireless earbuds, it can be hard to communicate with his kids, even when they’re in the same house.

“I want to try to work on technologies that bring people’s heads up, get them to enjoy the real world, make the family a more communal experience,” he was quoted as saying at the event.

“I really do fundamentally believe, and I think it’s what we’re spending a lot of time on in my organization, that we want to enhance the here and now. I want to try and work on technologies that bring people’s heads up, get them to enjoy the real world,” Limp said late on Thursday.

The senior Amazon executive said that he doesn’t want to live in a virtual world 24/7, or even a few hours a day.

As Meta CEO Zuckerberg makes big plans around the metaverse by spending billions of dollars, Snap CEO Evan Spiegel late last month criticized the new technology, saying the concept is “pretty ambiguous and hypothetical”.

Spiegel told The Guardian that the word metaverse is never spoken in Snap’s offices.

“The reason why we don’t use that word is that it’s pretty ambiguous and hypothetical. Just ask a room of people how to define it, and everyone’s definition is totally different,” he was quoted as saying.

According to him, people would rather spend time in augmented reality (AR) rather than a totally virtual one.

Limp said that the term “metaverse” was almost impossible to define.

“If I asked these few hundred people what they thought the metaverse was, we’d get 205 different answers. We don’t have a common definition, it means a lot of different things to a lot of different people,” he said.

Limp also said that AR glasses are better than VR because you can at least see the real world.

Meta is banking upon its big-time foray into Metaverse, with plans to invest $10 billion over the coming years.

Seven-year-old raped, sodomized in Gujarat

0

Surat, May 20 In the wee hours of Friday, a seven-year-old girl was kidnapped from outside her house, raped and sodomized, and then dumped in the Pandesara police station area of Surat city. The accused is absconding.

According to an official at the Pandesara police station, a family from the Bapunagar area approached the police on Friday morning complaining that their seven-year-old daughter has been raped. She was in trauma and was immediately rushed to a government hospital for treatment. The complainants were from Bihar.

As per the complaint, last night, the parents were sleeping inside the house with their son, when their daughter slipped outside the house.

At around 2 a.m., the accused from an adjacent street kidnapped her and took her to his room where he violated her. The accused then locked his house and fled. When the girl returned home, her parents were shocked at seeing her physical condition.

Officials said that on inquiry, the girl narrated the ordeal to her parents. The victim’s father works in a factory in the Pandesara industrial unit. They have been living here for some years.

The police and forensic teams are collecting evidence from the crime scene. One of the investigators requesting anonymity said that the accused, who is in his early twenties and hails from Bihar, lives close to the victim’s residence. He works in a factory in the Pandesara area.

IPL 2022: Will be watching Mumbai v Delhi pretty closely, says Maxwell after RCB’s win

0

Mumbai, May 20 After playing an all-around role in a vital eight-wicket victory for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) over Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022, all-rounder Glenn Maxwell admitted that the side will be watching Saturday’s match between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals very closely. Though Bangalore is in fourth place in the points table, their chances of sneaking into the playoffs depend totally on Delhi losing to Mumbai in the second-last league match of the tournament.

“We’ll be probably watching the Mumbai v Delhi game pretty closely. I wouldn’t mind a round of golf (Friday). There will be a bit of rehab going on. But I think the guys will stay really focused. The amount of hard work and effort that has gone into this team this year. We feel like we deserve to be in the final four and, hopefully, Mumbai will do the right thing by us and get us into the final four,” said Maxwell after the match.

It was a match where Bangalore had everything coming their way after losing the toss. Maxwell set the tone for Bangalore in power-play, completing a one-handed screamer of a catch at second slip to dismiss Shubman Gill cheaply, followed by trapping Matthew Wade lbw.

“In my mind, I was moving a little bit too slowly and wasn’t going to get there. It just hit perfectly in the fingers and stuck nicely. I’ve practiced that stuff my whole life and it’s not something that is just out of the blue. It’s one of those things I work really hard on.

“To have it stick perfectly and it gave us a great start, we were able to control the powerplay after that. It was just about holding my length. We saw Sai (Kishore) bowled beautifully there and there was a bit of hold for the finger spin. So just trying to make the most out of anything out of the surface,” stated the all-rounder.

With the bat, Maxwell unleashed a flurry of boundaries in a blazing finishing show of 40 not out off just 18 balls to finish off the chase in style. “I didn’t want to soak up any time. If I could get that first couple away and try to take the pressure off Virat at the other end, we can keep the momentum going.

“If I got out first ball, it wouldn’t have made a difference but if I soaked up a few dots, it could have given them some momentum back. Just trying to be ultra-positive and obviously leave the game with no doubt because we felt like we dominated with the bat in that innings,” remarked Maxwell.

Just like Kohli and Faf du Plessis had luck with some streaky boundaries, Maxwell had a huge slice of luck on the very first ball he faced. Leg-spinner Rashid Khan hit the top of Maxwell’s leg stump as the batter tried to swipe across the line. But the bails didn’t come off and the ball rolled away for four byes.

“I didn’t (see it), but when I missed it, I thought that’s going to be pretty close to them. The worst thing is picking a wrong-un and missing it and thinking it’s going to hit the stumps. You get those times when you need a bit of luck. Sometimes throughout this tournament, it’s been a bit up and down. You gotta take the good with the bad. It’s like a runout off the bowler’s hand. Some things you can’t do anything about but at least the bails stayed on for me this time,” concluded Maxwell.

IPL Turning Point: 115-run opening partnership between Kohli, du Plessis seals the deal for RCB

0

Mumbai, May 20 Thursday at the Wankhede Stadium was a crucial match for Royal Challengers Bangalore to keep their playoff hopes alive. Eventually, they did it in style with Virat Kohli rising to the occasion at his vintage best, starring with a 54-ball 73, laced with eight boundaries and two sixes.

What was more game-changing though was the 115-run opening stand between Kohli and du Plessis, the highest partnership put up by these two in IPL 2022. It was a mix of fortune and glorious shots from the duo to seal the deal for Bangalore very early.

Thanks to Kohli running quick off the blocks and quashing queries over his poor form throughout the tournament, with the crowd firmly cheering for the talismanic batter, Bangalore was able to get a flying start, amassing 55 runs in power-play, with 34 of those coming from Kohli’s bat.

It was also just the third time Gujarat failed to pick a wicket in the first six overs.

Kohli took his time to get used to the conditions where Gujarat Titans huffed and puffed to 168/5. He then began his blitz from the third over, lofting Mohammed Shami over his head and then superbly lofting him inside-out over extra-cover.

Suddenly, Thursday started to feel like luck and fortune were favoring Kohli heavily, with thoughts of ‘is this going to be that day entering the minds of viewers.

“It goes back to 2018 in England when I was dropped on 21 and the juggernaut could have started again like it did on the 2014 tour. I won’t be standing here being ungrateful for all that I have achieved. With the very first shot of Shami, I felt I could hit length balls over the fielder’s head. I knew that tonight was the night when I could kick on,” was Kohli’s revelation on how he got the feel of quashing the lean patch against Gujarat after the match.

When Hardik Pandya cramped Kohli with a slower ball, the thick inside edge rolled past the stumps for a streaky boundary. When Kohli whipped a full ball in the air, Rashid Khan, who was inches inside the square-leg boundary, dropped the catch. Kohli then produced the shot of the match, dancing down the pitch and lofting straight over Rashid’s head with impeccable timing.

With du Plessis giving solid support by hitting boundaries either by the edges or by dispatching the poor deliveries to the boundary rope, Kohli brought up his fifty in 33 balls with a nice clipped six over deep mid-wicket off Rashid.

Du Plessis brought up the century of the opening partnership by swatting a sparingly used Lockie Ferguson through mid-wicket.

“Throughout the season we haven’t done as much as have liked. But you still need to back these big players. Virat had been putting in the hard yards in the nets. I play the role with him and get him pumped up. He has got so many emotions and hype pulls you through,” stated du Plessis after the game.

But he fell six short of his fifty, as top-edge on slog sweep went to cover off Rashid, bringing the 115-run stand to a close. Though Rashid would come back to get Kohli stumped with a googly, the equation was really easy for Glenn Maxwell to take Bangalore home without any further hiccups as the duo at the top made life really easy for the side to pocket crucial two points.

Florian Hurel speaks about the struggle to create the perfect Cannes look for Tammanah

0

Mumbai, May 20 French hair and make-up expert Florian Hurel styled ‘Baahubali’ actress Tammanah Bhatia this year for the prestigious Cannes Film Festival and he couldn’t be happier with the result. However, it was no easy feat.

“Creating looks with her has been fun and yet we kept all the looks very worked on very chic, classy, and elegant. We both spoke a lot about the looks before creating one. I came up with a mood board and was functioning on hardly 4-5 hours of sleep a night! I wanted to make sure the ideas are presented to her before jumping into the glam game,” he says.

However, he adds, it was all worth it! “I am glad and very thrilled to be a part of the Cannes 2022 as it comes after a long period of the pandemic. It’s a comeback at an even higher level platform! This is a great motivation for me to work harder and bring the best looks to all my clients,” he says.

Florian, who has worked with all the big Bollywood names shares further: “I have worked with Tammanah on some very difficult commercials and other interesting red carpet looks but here, now at Cannes, it’s another level of work! An international, big platform and achievement for us. I am proud to see her shine and walk the biggest, longest, most applause-worthy red carpet in the world!”

He promises to be back next year. “I missed being with Deepika (Padukone) this year as I was booked with another artiste. I guess next year I will be with her or Priyanka Chopra. But I am so happy to be here with Tammanah this year. She is like a friend and seeing her walking the red carpet brings me a lot of joy and emotions. We’ve known each other now for 6 years since I moved to India,” he says.

New ‘Daredevil’ series in the works; Disney+ to bring all Marvel characters under one umbrella

0

Los Angeles, May 20 A new ‘Daredevil’ series is in the works at Disney+, with Matt Corman and Chris Ord writing and executive producing the project, reports ‘Variety’.

Corman and Ord most famously co-created the USA Network series ‘Covert Affairs’, which starred Piper Perabo and Christopher Gorham. The show aired for five seasons between 2010 and 2014. They most recently worked as executive producers and co-showrunners on the NBC drama shows ‘The Enemy Within’ and ‘The Brave’ as well as The CW series ‘Containment’.

Fans have been clamoring for more Daredevil ever since the Netflix series was canceled in 2018 after three seasons. They were in for a long wait, however, as Variety reported in 2018 that the deal with Netflix included a clause that prevented any characters from the Marvel-Netflix shows from appearing in any non-Netflix projects for two years after cancellation.

As per ‘Variety’, the move came as Disney looked to bring its Marvel heroes under one umbrella, with multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe shows having since debuted on Disney+. ‘Moon Knight’ starring Oscar Isaac was the last such show to premiere, with a trailer for the ‘She-Hulk’ series starring Tatiana Maslany dropping earlier this week.

Deborah Chow shares her excitement on making the series ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’

0

Mumbai, May 20 ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ director Deborah Chow talks about the upcoming American TV miniseries featuring the Star Wars characters.

Reprising his role as the iconic Jedi master, Ewan McGregor is set to headline the series along with Hayden Christensen, Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr, Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.

Deborah, who directed the show, is also one of the executive producers.

Deborah said: “I think the biggest thing for me that I really loved about the project, right from the beginning, is that it was character-driven. That was something that I found really, really exciting.”

Deborah, is a Canadian filmmaker, television director, and screenwriter. Her two short films, ‘Daypass’ and ‘The Hill’ have won awards at various international film festivals. Chow admits that her experiences on ‘The Mandalorian’ set helped her in doing the show.

“I don’t think I could have done this show if I hadn’t done The Mandalorian first, and there are a few reasons for that, just in terms of Star Wars. I learned so much from writer and director Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. They really mentored me in that galaxy in terms of storytelling and understanding and the tone of how to do Star Wars. And the second part of it was the technology, and Stagecraft, which I loved,” added Chow.

The story is most deeply rooted in the events of ‘Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat – the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as an evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ will premiere on May 27 on Disney+ Hotstar and run for six episodes until June 22.

‘Squid Game’ star Lee Jung-Jae debuts as a director with ‘Hunt’ at Cannes

0

Cannes, May 20 ‘Squid Game’ star Lee Jung-Jae made his directorial debut with the espionage action thriller ‘Hunt’, which premiered at the 75th Cannes Film Festival on Friday, reports Yonhap.

At Grand Theatre Lumiere, the main venue of the world’s most prestigious film festival, ‘Hunt’ was first shown as part of the non-competition Midnight Screening section and received a three-minute standing ovation.

Lee, who also starred in the movie, and lead actor Jung Woo-sung stood together and thanked the audience, who clapped and cheered for the 131-minute film that depicts the intelligence war between South and North Korea during the military regime in the 1980s.

“I wish everybody enjoyed the movie. Thank you, merci beaucoup!” Lee said after the screening.

‘Hunt’, according to Yonhap, is the story of two rival intelligence agents in South Korea, Pyong-ho (Lee) and Jung-do (Jung), who separately chase after a North Korean spy leaking top-secret information that could jeopardize national security.

Finally, the two discover a plot to assassinate the South Korean president.

It is Lee’s first film where he works behind the camera in his 30-year acting career, during which he has starred in about 40 films and TV series. He has also written the script of his maiden film.

‘Hunt’ is also his first project following the global sensation ‘Squid Game’, which brought Lee a number of major acting prizes in the United States, including best lead actor at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

According to an interview with the Cannes Film Festival on Thursday, the 49-year-old director and actor said he had been the first cast only as the lead about four years ago. But he decided to write and direct the film as he was moved by the story of the two main characters who make choices for a greater cause.

“I searched for a screenwriter and a director with a similar creative vision, but in the end, I couldn’t find one, so I took on the task of writing the screenplay myself,” Jung said. “The element I focused on most was to establish convincing motivations for each character.”

He said his film seems to focus on the decades-long inter-Korean conflict, but he tried to shed light on the past wrongdoings committed by a few to instigate people to engage in fake news, propaganda, or political manipulation.

“This movie is not only about what happens in Korea but also about stopping all conflicts in the world,” Jung said. “I like to think that this film is more about people who are working to right their ill-conceived ideologies, rather than to tell a story about North and South Korea.”

Thai actress Cindy Bishop recreates Alia’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ look

0

Mumbai, May 20 Popular Thai drama actress Cindy Sirinya Bishop recently took to her social media to share her recreated look of Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt from the latter’s biographical crime-drama film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ where she played the eponymous character of the madame of a brothel.

Cindy shared a video of herself dressed in a white saree which she paired with a black purse, jewelry and a rose tucked in her bun. She wrote a long note in the caption as she expressed her liking for the film, Alia, and the film’s director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

She began her note by writing, “My cover of Gangubai, inspired by the hit film on Netflix at the moment, in one of my favorite scenes where she’s inviting to take her lover for a ride in the newly acquired car.”

Next, she made a compelling argument surrounding prostitution vs sex work as she continued in her note: “Beyond the epic sets, visually captivating scenes, stunning performances by @aliaabhatt and cast, which has fascinated so many of us here in Thailand, promoting many to take to social media to do their versions of the main character #gangubaikathiawadi.

“This film brings to the forefront the much-contested arguments about prostitution vs sex work and reveals the brutality of the sex trafficking industry, then and now, and the unending cycle of violence and abuse those in marginalized groups have to endure.”

Cindy concluded her note with the observation: “If you do watch the film, I hope it inspired you to think more on the issue of consent, the right of a woman to choose what she does with her own body, the right to safety and to education, and the right for everyone regardless of gender, race, religion or social caste to live life with dignity and respect. Kudos to the team behind this project for bringing these issues to light.”

Directed and written by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, produced by Bhansali Productions and Dr. Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studios, is loosely based on the true story of Gangubai Harjivandas, popularly known as Gangubai Kothewali, whose life was documented in the book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’ by S. Hussain Zaidi.

The film also stars Ajay Devgn, Jim Sarbh, Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari, and Seema Bhargava.

Mumbai, May 20 As his film ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ releases on Friday, Kartik Aaryan, who replaced Akshay Kumar in the sequel of the 2007 psychological horror-comedy, compared the ‘Guru’ actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to American singer-songwriter Ariana Grande.

Kartik was speaking with YouTuber and comic artist Tanmay Bhat during the promotions of ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ when he was shown a picture of Aishwarya Rai with her hair tied up in a high ponytail.

Looking at the picture Tanmay said, “Oh right, she does look like Ariana Grande,” to which, Kartik replied, “Rather, Ariana looks like Aishwarya Rai.”

The video since then has gone viral with a lot of people sharing the clip across the platform. People took to the comments section of the video and supported Kartik’s line of thought. One social media user wrote, “Totally yes!! And though I like Ariana, she can’t be compared to Goddess Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.”

Another user shared the clip of the interview and said, “I love how Kartik Aryan said Aishwarya Rai is not looking like Ariana rather Ariana looking like Aishwarya.”

Meanwhile, Aishwarya is currently in the French Riviera town along with her husband, actor Abhishek Bachchan and daughter Aaradhya. Aishwarya, who is a regular attendee at the Cannes Film Festival for years now, marked her presence at the 75th Cannes Film Festival’s red carpet recently where she was seen dressed in a black floral gown.
