After witnessing violence, demolition drive underway in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri

0

Two shops were demolished during an anti-encroachment drive in the Jahangirpuri area of the national capital on Wednesday.

Area on April 16 bore witness to violent communal clashes that erupted between two groups of people, belonging to different communities, during a Shobha Yatra procession on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti.

At the time of filing of this report, two JCBs were demolishing the structures.

The residents in the vicinity of the demolition drive could be seen watching from the rooftops and the windows of their houses.

On Wednesday morning, Jahangirpuri was put under heavy security cover amid Municipal Corporation’s decision to conduct an anti-encroachment drive in the area.

The roads were excessively barricaded and manned by the police personnel along with the paramilitary forces. The situation was tense in the area.

To efficiently secure the area in case of any emergency, the police have divided it into five sectors — 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Police personnel in every sector were being led by Additional Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs).

Drones were also being used for surveillance.

Earlier, Special Commissioner Police Dependra Pathak while interacting with the media said that NDMC will decide what has to be removed and the police will only provide protection.

Spotify quietly shuts creator fund sans any payout

0

Swedish music streaming service Spotify has quietly shut down its Greenroom Creator Fund, a live audio app creator fund it had announced for creators last year with much fanfare.

The company had promised that the creator fund would begin payouts “later in summer” 2021 to the creators in the US, according to Podnews.

In March, the information was changed to read that the fund “goes live in 2022”.

Now, Spotify has sent emails to creators, saying it is shutting down the live audio app creator fund.

“We can find no evidence that the fund ever paid out any money,” the report said late on Tuesday.

The Greenroom Creator Fund, launched as a Clubhouse competitor, was to allow users to stream live conversations with celebrities, influencers, and other creators and pay them on a weekly basis.

“We plan to shift toward other initiatives for live creators,” the company said in an email.

Last week, the music streaming platform Spotify announced that it was changing the name of Greenroom to Spotify Live and bringing its live capabilities directly onto the Spotify app.

Spotify Live can now be found both as a stand-alone app and as a Livestream function in the Spotify app.

“This change reflects our belief in the future of live-audio creators and life experiences being provided to all 406 million Spotify listeners around the globe,” the company had said in a blog post.

Not just to deny education for a piece of cloth: K’taka girl on Hijab ban

0

Almas A.H., a second PUC (Class 12) student from Udupi Girl’s Pre-University College, one among the six girls who started a protest on hijab in Karnataka which went on to become a major crisis in the state, has said that it was not ‘just to deny’ education for a piece of cloth.

Her post, written on Tuesday, has again raised a debate on the hijab in the state.

“Being Education Minister, is it just for you to deny education for a piece of cloth?” Almas has questioned Karnataka Education Minister B.C. Nagesh on social media. She further stated that she had been preparing for her exams for a long and all that would go in vain.

Almas underlined: “Don’t do this injustice to us, sir. Allow us.”

However, the Karnataka government is all set to conduct the second PUC exam (Class 12) without allowing students to wear hijab. Karnataka High Court Special Bench has dismissed the petitions submitted by students, including Almas to permit hijab in classrooms.

Almas had earlier slammed the state government on its decision not to allow hijab protesters to write exams. She had questioned Minister Nagesh, asking, “Tell me Nagesh sir, who made us miss our exams? I have missed my practical exams, your decision is not only gonna shatter my dreams but also I am starting to lose hope in the system. Where is the justice, sir? Why do you want us to suffer?” she said.

The court has also stated that wearing of hijab is not an essential part of Islam. The Muslim organizations gave a bandh call for business establishments against the High Court order. Hindutva organizations later called for banning Muslim vendors from temples and religious fairs. The entire matter has taken a communal turn, resulting in an unrest-type situation in the state.

“I felt so disheartened after I heard the hijab verdict, felt as if my dignity, my identity was being snatched. I had least expected the judiciary to mock. I’m really at a loss of words right now. But, one thing I know is I’ll continue to fight for my hijab, in spite of all hurdles to come,” She had commented after the judgment on hijab by Karnataka High Court Special Bench.

Education Minister Nagesh has stated that not only students wearing hijab but the staff, including invigilators clad in hijab, won’t be allowed inside the exam centers. Including Almas, the other students who started the agitation at Udupi Pre-University Girl’s College have missed their practical exams insisting on the hijab.

Muskan Khan, a student from Mandya PES College, who was praised by the Al-Qaeda global terrorist Ayman Al-Jawahiri for raising the slogan of ‘Allahu Akbar’ has also missed her exams due to the hijab verdict. However, the majority of students from the minority community have attended the recently concluded SSLC (Class 10) and practical exams of II PUC without hijab.

Karnataka government is all set to hold the II PUC examinations from April 22 to May 18 in the state. As many as 6,84,255 students have enrolled for the examinations.

Netflix loses 2 lakh paid subscribers in Q1, shares tank 20%

0

Streaming giant Netflix saw its stock tumbling by 20 percent after it reported a loss of 2 lakh paid subscribers in the first quarter of 2022 — its first subscriber loss in over a decade.

Moreover, Netflix forecasts a global paid subscriber loss of 20 lakh for the second quarter (Q2) of 2022.

The decline has brought Netflix’s subscriber base to 221.6 million, down from 221.8 million in the previous quarter.

“The suspension of our service in Russia and winding-down of all Russian paid memberships resulted in a 7 lakh impact on paid net adds; excluding this impact, paid net additions totaled 5 lakh,” the company said in a statement late on Tuesday.

The company told its shareholders that it expected to add 2.5 million net subscribers during the first quarter, compared with 4 million in the same quarter a year ago.

The main challenge for membership growth, said Netflix, is continued soft acquisition across all regions.

Netflix informed that in addition to its 222 million paying households, it estimates that the streaming service is being shared with over 100 million additional households.

“Account sharing as a percentage of our paying membership hasn’t changed much over the years, but, coupled with the first factor, means it’s harder to grow membership in many markets – an issue that was obscured by our Covid growth,” the company noted.

Netflix said it is making good progress in APAC “where we are seeing nice growth in a variety of markets including Japan, India, Philippines, Thailand, and Taiwan”.

Its revenue in the first quarter reached $7.78 billion. The net cash generated by operating activities in Q1 was $923 million.

Apple workers in NYC seek $30 per hour minimum wage

0

Employees at the iconic Apple New York City store in Grand Central Terminal are seeking a $30 an hour minimum wage, which means a full-time employee can make nearly $62,000 a year.

The Apple workers’ union, called Fruit Stand Workers United, has updated its websites with new demands, including the wage increase, health and safety research, and better education and retirement benefits, reports The Verge.

The union also wants pay calculated using a “matrix based on role, tenure, and performance”.

The union also called on Apple to “conduct research into security protocols with customer interactions, and research into track dust, health effects from building materials, and noise pollution at Grand Central”.

Organizers at Apple Grand Central are handing out signature cards so employees can express interest in forming a union.

If at least 30 per cent sign, the organisers can file a petition with the US National Labour Relations Board (NLRB) to hold a union election.

So far, no Apple store has successfully formed a union.

“Grand Central is an extraordinary store with unique working conditions that make a union necessary to ensure our team has the best possible standards of living in what have proven to be extraordinary times,” the organizers’ website reads, citing inflation rates and pandemic-related store closures.

The Washington Post had earlier reported that several Apple stores were getting ready to unionize amid complaints that wages can’t keep up with the skyrocketing rate of inflation and poor working conditions.

The Post’s recent report suggests that “at least three” other Apple store locations are progressing towards forming a union.

ACC’s consolidated net profit down 30% in Q1CY21 on YoY basis

0

Cement manufacturer ACC on Tuesday reported a decline of 30 percent in its consolidated net profit for Q1CY22 on a year-on-year basis.

The company’s consolidated net profit fell to Rs 396 crore from Rs 563 crore reported for the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal.

However, the company’s consolidated net sales were up to Rs 4,322 crore in the quarter under review from Rs 4,213 crore earned during Q1CY21.

“ACC’s focusing on capacity growth, delivering cost reduction, and sharp actions on sustainability has continued. Our execution capabilities to drive efficiencies and commission new projects have enabled us to make ACC significantly stronger,” said Sridhar Balakrishnan, Managing Director, and CEO, of ACC.

“The January to March 2022 quarter was impacted due to the global rise in fuel costs driven by the overall geopolitical situation. The Indian story remains intact. Our ongoing initiatives on growth, sustainability, and productivity improvements will continue as we progress on the consequent execution of our strategy,” he added.

In terms of outlook, the company said that the demand situation is expected to further improve in the coming months supported by an improving domestic economic environment and the various initiatives of the government in terms of increased spending on infrastructure development.

Snapping 5-day losing streak, indices up in opening session

0

Breaking the five-day losing streak, Indian benchmark equity indices rose on Wednesday primarily due to value buying.

In the past five sessions, the Sensex and Nifty declined almost 4 per cent.

High inflation amid rising crude prices weighed on the investor’s sentiment in the past few sessions, said analysts.

At 9.31 a.m., Sensex was at 56,956, up 493 points or 0.87 percent, whereas Nifty was at 17,108 points, up 149 points or 0.88 percent.

Hesson’s batting template for RCB seems to be working well

0

When Royal Challengers Bangalore’s director of cricket operation Mike Hesson said ahead of the game against Lucknow Super Giants that from a batting perspective his side had to get its strategy right on a consistent basis, he was probably alluding to the match against Delhi Capitals a few days earlier.

Then, two batting stalwarts — Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik — had played stellar knocks and Shahbaz Ahmed had played a cameo to guide them to an imposing 189. A similar template was used against LSG in RCB’s 18-run victory at the DY Patil Stadium, where skipper Faf du Plessis smashed a belligerent 64-ball 96, and Maxwell and Ahmed too did their bit with the bat.

“So, from a batting point of view, we probably got it right once (against DC). So, here is another opportunity (against LSG) for us to get it right as a batting unit. We got enough experience to defend on that surface,” Hesson had said.

In a similar display, the Challengers ripped through the ranks of the Lucknow Super Giants in what one would call a clinical display of vision, aggression and some intelligent captaincy.

Du Plessis, who was seeing wickets tumble at the other end, took his time to get his eyes in and then started attacking. He frequently got on top of the balls, playing some exotic strokes that had his intentions of making a comeback clear.

He didn’t play one tentative shot and played the instrumental role of upping the run-rate when Shahbaz Ahmed played a silent spectator at the other end. By the time he was done, he had already garnered 96 runs from just 64 balls.

Shahbaz Ahmed too played a composed inning of 26 from 22 balls. It was his calmness that helped the Challengers turn the tide from where Faf and DK propelled them to 181.

In the bowling department too, Australian pace spearhead Josh Hazlewood has started to look invincible in just three games for RCB. After bowling a decent spell against Chennai where the other bowlers went for a toss, he was just brilliant against the Delhi Capitals. However, if that was a prelude to what was to come, then in the showdown against LSG, he claimed the wickets of Quinton de Kock, Manish Pandey, Ayush Badoni, and Marcus Stoinis.

More importantly, he kept things very tight as he bowled a spell of four overs from which he just conceded 25 runs.

With the fifth win of the season from seven games, RCB has climbed to the second position on the points table. They will be up against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their next encounter on Saturday and, hopefully, will continue to build on the template put in place by Hesson.

Disinfectant that can act as green de-contaminant for Covid developed

0

Researchers have developed a plasma-based disinfectant generated with the help of cold atmospheric pressure plasma (CAP) that can act as a green de-contaminant for Covid-19.

The Covid pandemic had brought forth the urgent need for de-contaminants that can limit the spread of infectious diseases through contact. However, most de-contaminants consisted of chemicals that are hazardous to the environment.

This encouraged the researchers’ team to look for greener alternatives. They demonstrated that the plasma generated by cold atmospheric pressure (CAP) has the potential to deactivate the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, which binds to the human ACE2 receptor for inducing viral infection and subsequent Covid-19.

Plasma, the fourth state of matter which makes up most of the universe, when produced in controlled conditions in the lab is termed Cold Atmospheric Pressure Plasma (CAP). The scientists passed plasma forming gases such as Helium, Argon, and Air through a high voltage electric field, which led to the formation of a stable plasma with a mixture of ions, and electrons emitting a pink glow of CAP inside the reaction chamber.

The scientists’ team included Kamatchi Sankaranarayanan, Mojibur R. Khan, and H Bailung from the Life Sciences and Physical Sciences divisions from the Institute of the Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), an autonomous research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) at Guwahati, Assam.

This research was recently published in the international journal of the RSC (Royal Society of Chemistry) Advances showed that “short-lived highly reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS/RNS) generated in the plasma led to complete deactivation of the SARS-CoV-2. Spike protein occurs within two minutes of CAP treatment. The RT-PCR analysis has also established that CAP can deactivate the RNA of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.”

The researchers showed that the CAP, a plasma-based disinfection method is a better alternative to environmentally hazardous chemical-based decontamination methods. “The cold atmospheric plasma is environmentally safe since, during the entire decontamination process by plasma treatment, no chemical waste is produced,” the study said.

The lead authors Sankaranarayanan and Bailung said the disinfection method could further be extended for various bacterial or fungal infections.

The research was conducted at the Covid-19 testing and research facility of IASST, which according to director Ashis K. Mukherjee, has carried out more than 1.54 lakhs tests to date.

Fourth schedule of ‘Music School’ wrapped up in Goa

The fun-filled fourth schedule of director Papa Rao Biyyala’s upcoming film ‘Music School’ has been wrapped up in Goa.

The fourth schedule comprised scenes between actors Shriya Saran, Sharman Joshi, and Shaan in Goa.

A significant chunk of the talkie portions of the musical has been shot in scenic locales and with beaches in the backdrop.

With this wrap-up in Goa, 95 percent of the film has been completed.

‘Music School’, a one-of-a-kind bilingual (it is being made in Hindi and Telugu), is being produced by Yamini Films. It has music by Ilaiyaraaja and cinematography by Kiran Deohans.

The film stars Sharman Joshi, Shriya Saran, Shaan, Suhasini Mulay, Prakash Raj, Benjamin Gilani, Srikanth Iyengar, Vinay Varma, Mona Ambegaonkar, Gracy Goswamy, Ozu Barua, Bugs Bhargava, Mangala Bhatt and Phani Eggoti among others.

Says Shaan, “I had a wonderful time shooting for ‘Music School’. The entire cast and crew was like a big family. We had a wonderful time, especially the children. They’re always so enthusiastic and so full of life. We’re going to miss all the fun that we had. I can’t wait to see how the film shapes up. I’m hoping to meet up at the reunion party once the film is ready for release. Until then, my best wishes to Papa Rao ji and the entire crew of ‘Music School’.”

The director cast Shaan for a critical role in the film after watching him sing a song for the film in Ilaiyaraaja’s recording studio in Chennai.

Papa Rao Biyyala was looking for a flamboyant person for this role and he thought the singer fit the bill.

This schedule also wraps up the portions of the second lead of the film, Ozu Barua and Gracy Goswamy, who, the director says, did a wonderful job. This teen duo has something special in store for the audience in the film.

The director says directing veteran character actors like Benjamin Gilani and Suhasini Mulay was the ultimate experience.

Says Papa Rao, “It was a great pleasure to work with such erudite actors. Cinematographer Kiran Deohans has captured some mind-blowing shots of the scenic beauty of Goa. The fourth schedule was quite special. I’m happy that we shot here; it is one of the most visually striking states of our country. We can’t wait to get started on the final song of our musical in Hyderabad.”

Top 10 global tech CEOs’ bonuses soared 400% amid pandemic

0

The bonuses of CEOs at the top 10 tech companies soared a massive 400 percent on average during the pandemic between 2020 and 2021, a new report showed on Tuesday. However, Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai saw a drop of 14 percent in his bonuses in 2020 and 2021.

Tan Hock Eng from Broadcom was the highest gainer by a whopping 1,586 percent, from $3.6 million to $60.7 million, according to data acquired by financial news portal Feingold.

Oracle’s Safra Ada Catz ranked the second-highest, with her compensation growing 999 percent.

“With the tech sector registering significant returns amid the coronavirus pandemic, the industry’s executives are also ranking high in compensation,” the report said.

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger was third with 713.64 percent gains — from $22 million to $179 million, followed by Apple’s Tim Cook, who recorded a bonus surge of 571.63 percent — from $14.7 million to $98.7 million.

Amazon’s Andy Jassy finished the top-five category with gains of 491.9 percent, from $35.8 million to $211.9 million.

Other executives who earned significant perks include Nvidia’s Jensen Huang (52.17 percent), Cisco’s Chuck Robbins (9.48 percent), and Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg (5.93 percent).

Elsewhere, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings recorded a drop in his compensation by 19.68 percent — from $43.2 million to $34.7 million and Pichai from Alphabet (Google) recorded a drop of 14 percent.

Overall, the combined compensation of the selected executives for 2021 was $721.13 million, a 210.88 percent growth from the 2020’s figure of $231.96 million.

“Although the increase in bonuses might be a direct impact of the tech sector’s performance in the last two years, the standard justification for allocating high perks is to retain talent amid the pandemic,” the Finbold report mentioned.

Some executives are known to create corporate value, and their parent organization has resorted to compensating them with whatever it takes, it added.

On the flip side, the significant executive payout has reignited the wealth inequality in America.

Recently, US Senator Elizabeth Warren engaged in a war of words with Tesla CEO Elon Musk over the low taxes paid by billionaires.

According to Warren, billionaires should pay forward in taxes to support the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Apple workers at NYC store hope to be next in Big Tech unionisation

0

Employees at an Apple New York City store in Grand Central Terminal have started collecting signatures to form a union.

The story was first reported by The Washington Post.

So far, no Apple store has successfully formed a union. The organizers call themselves ‘Fruit Stand Workers United’, and announced in an update on their website that they voted to affiliate themselves with the Workers United labor union on February 21, 2022.

Recently, Workers United backed the unionization efforts at Starbucks across the US.

Organizers at Apple Grand Central are handing out signature cards so employees can express interest in forming a union.

If at least 30 percent sign, the organizers can file a petition with the US National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to hold a union election.

Apple’s reaction seemed politically correct but far from supportive.

“We are fortunate to have incredible retail team members and we deeply value everything they bring to Apple,” an Apple spokesperson said in a statement to The Post.

“We are pleased to offer very strong compensation and benefits for full-time and part-time employees, including healthcare, tuition reimbursement, new parental leave, paid family leave, annual stock grants, and many other benefits,” the statement added.

Earlier this year, Apple had increased benefits for both part-time and full-time retail employees following media reports, led by The Verge, that Apple store employees are struggling over wages and working environment.

Throughout the course of the pandemic, retail workers have also dealt with changing mask guidance, store closures, as well as a requirement to submit proof of a Covid-19 booster shot or show a negative Covid-19 test report before entering the store.

Apple isn’t alone. Earlier this month, in a first for the company, Amazon workers at the Staten warehouse in Long Island succeeded in unionizing.

On Monday, Amazon workers at a small facility in New Jersey showed enough interest to hold a vote on unionizing.

At least 60 of 200 workers from Amazon’s DNK5 depot in Bayonne, New Jersey, have submitted cards seeking to organize as part of Local 713 International Brotherhood of the Trade Union, the NLRB said.

There seems growing interest among Big Tech workers to unionize — even as the employers have little patience for unions in their US operations.

LinkedIn most likely to be imitated in phishing attempts in Q1: Report

0

Professional networking platform LinkedIn has ranked first in the list of brands most likely to be imitated in phishing attempts in the first quarter of 2022, a report said on Tuesday.

According to cybersecurity firm Check Point, the report highlighted the brands that hackers most often imitated in the first three months of this year, in order to lure people into giving up their personal data.

“These phishing attempts are attacks of opportunity, plain and simple. Criminal groups orchestrate these phishing attempts on a grand scale, with a view to getting as many people to part with their personal data as possible,” Omer Dembinsky, Data Research Group Manager at Check Point Software, said in a statement.

“Some attacks will attempt to gain leverage over individuals or steal their information, such as those we are seeing with LinkedIn. Others will be attempts to deploy malware on company networks, such as the fake emails containing spoof carrier documents that we are seeing with the likes of Maersk. If there was ever any doubt that social media would become one of the most heavily targeted sectors by criminal groups, Q1 has laid those doubts to rest,” Dembinsky added.

LinkedIn dominated the rankings for the first time ever, accounting for more than half (52 per cent) of all phishing attempts during the quarter. This represents a dramatic 44 per cent uplift from the previous quarter, where the professional networking site was in fifth position accounting for only 8 per cent of phishing attempts.

DHL is second to LinkedIn, accounting for 14 per cent of phishing attempts, followed by Google (7 per cent) and Microsoft (6 per cent). FedEx has moved from the seventh position to the fifth, now accounting for 6 per cent of all phishing attempts.

WhatsApp maintained its position in the top ten, accounting for almost one in 20 phishing-related attacks worldwide. Maersk and AliExpress have entered the top ten list for the first time.

On Monday, Mahesh and Keerthy began filming the movie’s upcoming song, which we hear is a great dance number scored by Thaman.

While Keerthy will be dazzling in some sparkling costumes, Mahesh is said to look his best in the song, whose dance steps will be another crazy thing.

It is also reported that Thaman had composed this song almost two years ago, and they are finally filming the video for it.

Mahesh and Keerthy Suresh have already completed the talkie portion. The ‘Sarkaru Vaari Paata team is currently filming one final song, and the actors are actively participating in the shoot.

After the final song shoot, ‘Sarkaru Vaari Paata’ will enter the post-production phase a few weeks before its release.

‘Sarkaru Vaari Paata,’ directed by Parasuram Petla, will be released on May 12.

Barcelona Open: Qualifier Taberner upsets Korda in opening round

0

Spanish qualifier Carlos Taberner made good use of home conditions to earn the biggest win of his season at the Barcelona Open on Tuesday, cruising past World No. 37 Sebastian Korda 6-3, 6-0 to earn just his second ATP 500 victory.

The World No. 94, who was making his debut in Barcelona, won 100 percent (8/8) of points behind his second serve in his first-round clash against Korda and saved the one break point he faced to triumph after 67 minutes in front of his home crowd.

The 24-year-old will next face third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round. The Canadian will be bidding to lift his second trophy of the season this week, after capturing the crown in Rotterdam in February.

South African Lloyd Harris booked his spot in the second round with a 6-4, 7-6(0) victory over Roberto Carballes Baena, according to a report on the ATP Tour website.

The World No. 40 lost in the first round at the Monte-Carlo Masters last week in his first clay match of the year but responded with a consistent display to set a meeting with Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Marton Fucosvics, who downed Harris in Monte Carlo, eliminated Australian Jordan Thompson 6-4, 6-2, while Emil Ruusuvuori defeated former World No. 12 Feliciano Lopez 6-0, 6-1.

Strong Kerala take on Mumbai, Hyderabad have task cut against RFYC

0

Kerala Blasters FC will have experience on their side when they take on Mumbai City FC in a second-round match at the inaugural Reliance Foundation Development League (RFDL) at the Nagoa Ground on Wednesday.

In the other match of the day, Hyderabad FC and Reliance Foundation Young Champs (RFYC) will both look to get back to winning ways at the Benaulim Ground.

Kerala had five of their starting XI players with Hero Indian Super League experience, the likes of Ayush Adhikari, Vincy Barretto, Givson Singh, and Sanjeev Stalin playing an important part in their road to the final where they lost to Hyderabad FC. It was there for all to see in their opener against the Hyderabad here, the boys in yellow scripting a 2-0 victory with Barretto getting on the scoresheet and skipper Adhikari putting in a commendable shift.

Coach Tomasz Tchorz will expect the same from his wards against a Mumbai side who do not have any first-team players who were part of their ISL campaign. Mumbai lost to Jamshedpur 0-3 in their first outing, the Islanders lacking that cutting edge and experience compared to their counterparts.

The players at Mumbai have been together for four years now, having graduated from the U18 and U15s to be part of the reserve team setup. Against Kerala, coach Mohan Dass will have to work on the team’s morale after a disappointing loss as the team looks to bounce back as early as possible starting with a stern test against the experienced Kerala who has set the early marker along with Jamshedpur.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad will be desperate to log a win after a bad day in office, losing to Kerala 0-2 in their first match of the campaign. Among the positives, Abdul Rabeeh and C. Lalchungnunga combined well upfront for the just-crowned ISL champions and coach Shameel Chembakath will hope they continue the good work against RFYC. Hyderabad also left a lot of space at the back for Kerala to exploit and will have to be more compact with Amritpal Singh and Singson, who was guilty of conceding an own goal, leaving room for improvement.

The RF Young Champs were second-best against Bengaluru in their first encounter, still giving a good account of themselves with the likes of Chirag Bhujel and Sanan Mohammed trying their best to conjure up opportunities. The youngest team in the tournament, RFYC, looked good in the second half against Bengaluru and coach Arata Izumi will have his task cut out against Hyderabad.

0

Eyeing a massive 65 percent market share in the QLED TV segment, Samsung on Tuesday brought its latest range of Neo QLED 8K and Neo QLED TVs to the Indian consumers to further elevate their viewing experience.

The South Korean giant currently has about 50 percent market share in the premium TV segment in India.

“As disposable income rises and Indians, especially the aspirational young consumers, aim to have next-gen experiences with their TVs, We wanted to have them the best in the segment that takes the watching experience beyond to a wholesome connected lifestyle where they can video chat, stream, play games and even work on their TVs,” Mohandeep Singh, Senior Vice President, Consumer Electronics Business, Samsung India, told IANS.

“We have seen 2 times growth in the QLED TV segment in 2021 and are confident of achieving 3 times growth this year,” Singh added.

The Neo QLED TVs come with a built-in IoT Hub that lets you control multiple devices in your home and Smart Hub for content curation, video calls, on-screen multitasking, and more.

While Neo QLED 8K TVs start from Rs 3,24,990 (with screen sizes ranging from 65-inch to 85-inch), Neo QLED TVs (ranging from 50-inch to 85-inch screens) will be available from Rs 1,14,990 at all Samsung retail stores, leading consumer electronics stores and online platforms.

Consumers buying Neo QLED TVs will be offered a 10-year, no screen burn-in warranty, said the company.

Samsung was the first to launch an 8K TV in India.

“We saw strong sales of the QLED 8K TVs last year and are confident of achieving 5X growth in QLED 8K sales this year,” informed Singh.

In the 55-inch and above, 65-inch and above, and 75-inch and above segments, Samsung saw 70 percent, 110 percent, and 100 percent growth in 2021 over 2020.

“With this new launch, we aim to take our overall TV market share from 31.7 percent to 36 percent by the end of the year, backed by a strong channel strategy where the company plans to double the number of stores that will sell Neo QLED TVs across the country,” said Singh.

The Neo QLED 8K is powered by the Neural Quantum Processor 8K with a real depth enhancer which determines and enhances objects to create three-dimensional depth with the help of AI-based deep learning.

For an enhanced viewing experience, Neo QLED features ‘EyeComfort’ mode which automatically adjusts the screen’s brightness and tone based on built-in sensors.

As a limited period offer, consumers buying Neo QLED 8K TVs between April 19-30will get a Samsung Soundbar worth Rs 1,49,900 free, along with the SlimFit Cam worth Rs 8,900. The consumers who purchase Neo QLED TVs will get a ‘SlimFit Cam’.

Google Pixel 6 bug automatically rejects some calls

The Google Pixel 6 series appears to be suffering from another bug as some Pixel owners have reported that their phones are failing to ring when there is an incoming call.

According to Android Central, the Google Pixel 6 series never seems to run out of bugs and the latest one appears to be a major source of concern, especially for users who rely heavily on phone calls all the time.

The device apparently declines calls at random without your knowledge, the report said.

According to a growing number of users who have taken to Reddit to voice their complaints, their Pixel 6 and 6 Pro automatically reject some phone calls from their saved contacts without even ringing their devices.

“At least 4+ times a week, I will have someone telling me they tried to call me but I have no missed call notification. When I check my call log, it says the call was declined which obviously I did not do. My phone is usually face-up on my desk or table when this happens and I do not even see the call come through,” a user wrote on Reddit.

What makes matters worse is the lack of a missed call notification. To the surprise of affected users, their call log displays a history of attempted calls that were marked as declined, even though no phone call went through on their screen.

The tech giant is yet to comment on the matter.

The problem persists even after turning off every possible setting that could affect phone calls, including Do Not Disturb and Wi-Fi calling.
