0

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Faf du Plessis is confident his players will not be under pressure when they clash against the Ravindra Jadeja-led Chennai Super Kings in the ‘Southern Derby later on Tuesday.

Over the years, the contest between RCB and CSK — the four-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions — has become one of the most anticipated clashes of the tournament, and pressure and emotions are high both on and off the field.

However, du Plessis, who took over the reins of the side from long-serving skipper Virat Kohli, allayed fears on Tuesday that his side would likely buckle under pressure. Speaking on RCB Bold Diaries, the former South African captain — who was also part of the CSK camp between 2018 and 2021 — said, “No, we’re obviously playing some nice cricket at the moment, so we’ve got a bit of form going into the match. But we also know that Chennai is a team that you can never write off.

“They’ve got some incredible cricketers there. So, it’s going to be a great game, and I’m looking forward to that. (Australian pace bowler Josh) Hazlewood has joined us, it’s nice for him as well; it’s his first game back, and he’s also playing against his old team.”

RCB are coming into the contest having won three of their four games and are currently third on the IPL points table, while CSK is 10th and last after losing all their four matches so far in this edition.

Speaking of Hazlewood, who has joined the camp, du Plessis said that the Australian quick had been made aware of the dynamics and environment of the side, and what the team expects of him in IPL 2022.

“We have conversations with every single player in the team, just to be clear on what we expect from them, from an overall point of view, from the team dynamics, from the environment, from the culture; just making everyone feel a part of the journey.

“And I think players enjoy that there’s communication always. I’m a big believer in over-communicating so people know exactly where they stand, what they need to do, what they’re doing well, what they need to improve on; communication for me is always really important,” added du Plessis.

Having been in the Chennai dressing room for a long time, does it make it easy for du Plessis to captain against them, knowing the players at CSK inside out?

“In theory, yes because you know the players well. But the flip side is they also know me, they know my game very well as well. There’s that balance I suppose. But, yes, it helps to know a little bit more about player strengths, areas that you can hopefully try and see as a little bit of a weakness. It’s two strong teams competing, looking forward to it,” said du Plessis.

Delhi HC junks Indian-origin fugitive rape accused’s plea against extradition

0

Terming the move as “premature”, the Delhi High Court has turned down a plea filed by an absconding Indian-origin Portuguese citizen, who is accused in a rape case in London in 2017.

Petitioner Jose Inacio Cota had approached the court challenging the extradition proceedings against him.

In the recently-passed order, Justice Asha Menon said: “It is clear from the submission made by counsel for the petitioner, that the pleas taken here are precisely those which can be raised before the court dealing with extradition proceedings.

“It will be most inappropriate for this court, at this stage, to comment on these aspects, in a manner pre-empting the Extraditing Court from applying its mind independently. That could be prejudicial to either or both sides.”

Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel had argued that there is a treaty between India and the UK, saying that the UK is bound to provide all the documents and evidence — physical and electronic — collected during the investigation against a person of Indian origin. This will include medical evidence, forensic evidence, CCTV footage, the audio recording of the interviews taken by the UK police, details of calls made to the UK police, formal police complaints, and a record of the seizure of articles.

However, counsel, appearing for the Centre, objected to the plea on the ground that the petitioner is not appearing in extradition proceedings before the lower court.

It was pointed out that the petitioner is wanted in a rape case registered against him in London on May 28, 2017, and his extradition request has been filed by the UK authorities to face trial in the matter.

The petition stated that the petitioner has been vexatiously roped into a false case in the UK, which is racially motivated and thus discriminatory and prejudicial toward the petitioner.

Non-Covid demand is expected to drive the corporate healthcare industry’s growth in FY23, as per rating agency India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra).

Within the sector, the hospital sub-sector is expected to witness robust demand drivers, a strong improvement in profitability, and calibrated capacity enhancement capex, it said, adding that together, these factors support the hospital sub-sector’s liquidity position and aid in sustaining the credit profile improvement.

“Normalisation of international travel restrictions can lead to a recovery in international patient revenue,” Ind-Ra said.

“Given that the operating procedures have been standardized across hospitals during the past two years of Covid-19, any intermittent local lockdowns owing to the resurgence of infections are unlikely to impact the hospitals significantly.”

According to the rating agency, with most of the sectoral players having expansion plans, the sector is likely to remain exposed to competition, leading to a longer gestation period in ramping-up operations at greenfield facilities.

Besides, Ind-Ra pointed out that the outlook for the diagnostic companies’ sub-sector is neutral for FY23, supported by a recovery in non-Covid-19 related revenue and moderate demand for Covid-19 tests, robust cash generation, and strong credit profiles.

“While increasing competition and acquisition-led expansion could compress margin, the headroom available to absorb shocks remains comfortable.”

During 9MFY22, the revenue of most of the listed companies in the sector surpassed that of FY21, moving up about 40 percent year-on-year for almost all players.

“While Covid-19 contributed to a sizeable share of revenue in 1QFY22, it has tapered off from 2QFY22. The growth during 9MFY22 was mainly driven by the lower base of 9MFY21 and consistent recovery in occupancy from 2HFY21.

“Ind-Ra expects continued growth in health care needs and part of the pent-up demand and price increase to drive growth in FY23.”
