Global 5G mobile subscriptions to cross 4.39 bn by 2027

0

As the fifth generation technology witnesses great adoption, 5G mobile subscriptions globally are expected to cross 4.39 billion by 2027, a new report said on Tuesday.

North-East Asia is likely to have the highest number of subscriptions of over 1 billion, with Central and Eastern Europe expected to record the least number of subscriptions at 230 million, according to data obtained by Stockapps.com.

“The 5th generation connectivity is quickly gaining popularity as the new age of the Internet rolls by. It is especially a crucial factor driving the Internet of Things and is expected to increase significantly in the coming years,” said Edith Reads from stockapps.com.

In 2020, North Asia accounted for 120 million of the global 216 million 5G mobile subscriptions. Central and Eastern Europe accounted for the least subscriptions, with about 220,000 subscriptions.

According to the findings, North East Asia will continue leading in the 5G adaptation.

Since 2020, adoption in the region has been growing consistently to get to over 830 million in 2022.

It is expected that the region will maintain consistent growth over the years to get to 1.6 billion in 2027, said the report.

The Middle East and Africa will also record an incredible surge, increasing from 1.46 million to 310 million subscriptions in 2027.

Data shows that by 2023, connected cars will form around 19 million endpoints, making up the most extensive base of the 5G IoT endpoints.

Other significant 5G and IoT factors include surveillance cameras and fleet telematics.

Australia to unveil Indigenous jersey in first ODI against Pakistan

0

The Australian cricket team will make history when it steps into the Gaddafi Stadium later on Tuesday for the first of the three-match ODI series against Pakistan, as they will become the first men’s side to wear Indigenous designs overseas.

However, the Aaron Finch-led side will not be the first Australians to don the new design, with Australia’s women’s team having worn it during the ODI component of the recently-completed Ashes series, according to cricket.com.au.

The jersey was supposed to make its debut in a three-match ODI series against New Zealand in February, but it got postponed due to stringent border controls in the Trans-Tasman country due to Covid-19.

“The design follows on from last summer’s predominantly black Indigenous-themed kit, which the men’s team wore against India in three T20s,” the report said, adding that the artwork was a collaboration between the manufacturers and two Indigenous women.

“The kit may also return next summer so the men’s team can wear it on home soil, but the 2022/23 summer schedule is yet to be confirmed,” the report added.

Australia, who will play their first white-ball match on Pakistan soil since 1998, will field one of the most depleted white-ball sides in a long time. The team is shorn of some of the biggest names, including Test captain Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and top-order batters Steve Smith and David Warner.

To add to their woes, Mitchell Marsh — with 63 ODIs to his name and Australia’s second-most experienced player on the tour behind skipper Finch (132 ODIs) — has been ruled out of the first ODI and possibly the entire series due to a hip flexor injury sustained at training on Sunday.

While Travis Head is back in the mix, it remains to be seen how he shapes up, given that he hasn’t played ODI cricket since 2018. Among others, Cameron Green has played just one, Sean Abbott two, while Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Josh Inglis, and Mitchell Swepson would all make their ODI debut if selected.

“This is going to be a visual treat for the audiences. The fact that we could finally pull off such a magnificent Spain schedule without any hassle whatsoever is a huge feat for the entire production!” says Siddharth.

SRK and Deepika shot a song in Mallorca as the superstar was clicked flaunting an eight-pack and Deepika her perfect bikini body. They then headed to Cadiz and Jerez in Spain where they wrapped the schedule on March 27.

“As a director, I strive to make every film of mine a bigger experience for the audience than my last film and I have a personal ambition to make ‘Pathaan’ a film that is at par with any film made anywhere in the world.”

‘Pathaan’ is set to release on January 25, 2023, in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Ranbir, Alia-starrer ‘Brahmastra’ wrapped up

The shooting for the upcoming fantasy adventure film ‘Brahmastra’ starring Bollywood couple Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt has wrapped up.

The makers wrapped their final shooting schedule in Kashi and are all set to hit the theatres on September 9.

Alia took to Instagram where she shared a video clip. The clip seems to be from a song. She also shared a picture featuring the director Ayan Mukerji and Ranbir after a temple visit.

For the caption, Alia wrote: “We started shooting in 2018. And now a finally. The filming of Brahmastra (Part One) comes to an end !! I’ve been wanting to say this for such a long time…IT’S A WRAP!”

The film apparently is set in two timeframes. The main story is set in present times where Shiva, a young man with superpowers travels 3000 years back in time to learn about weapons like Brahmastra in order to fulfill a mission.

Directed by Ayan Mukerji, produced by Fox Star Studios, Dharma Productions, Prime Focus, and Starlight Pictures, the magnum opus will release theatrically on September 9 in five Indian languages – Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.

Stalin to take up development issues of TN with PM Modi in New Delhi

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, during his four-day visit to New Delhi from March 30, will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and take up a host of issues related to the development of the state with him.

This will be his second meeting with the Prime Minister after he assumed office in May 2021 as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu.

In a statement, the Chief Minister’s office said that while the meeting with the Prime Minister on March 31 stands confirmed, that with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh awaits confirmation.

Stalin is expected to take up several issues concerning the state, including pending bills with the Governor and other infrastructure and development issues.

During his visit, the Chief Minister will inaugurate ‘Anna Kalaignar Arivalayam’, the DMK party office in New Delhi on April 2. DMK Parliamentary party leader and former Union Minister T.R. Baalu has met Congress president Sonia Gandhi, BJP president J.P. Nadda, and other senior leaders and extended the invitation of the DMK office inauguration.

Notably, the DMK is trying to catapult Stalin to the national stage as an alternative to the BJP during the 2024 polls and the Delhi office inauguration is considered a major meeting point with senior regional chieftains to take up the coordination for an anti-NDA front at the national level.

While West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao had traveled across the country and met senior opposition leaders for a joint front, Stalin is more acceptable as he maintains an excellent relationship with the Congress, CPM, and CPI which will be of use for a national anti-BJP front.

After $55 mn fine, Apple faces bigger penalty over Dutch dating apps

0

The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) has so far fined Apple $55 million for failing to satisfy its order and if the tech giant further fails to comply with its order, the consumer watchdog may impose another periodic penalty payment with possibly higher penalties this time around.

The Dutch regulator has been levying its fines in $5.5 million increments on Apple, for failing to address its demands to allow dating apps to use alternate formats of payments.

Until last weekend, Apple still had not met ACM’s requirements.

“That is why it has to pay a 10th penalty payment, which means that Apple must pay the maximum penalty of 50 million euros ($55 million),” the Dutch regulator said in a statement late on Monday.

Apple, however, adjusted its proposal concerning compliance on Sunday with the requirements set by the Netherlands ACM under Dutch and European competition rules.

ACM said it welcomes Apple’s current step.

“The adjusted proposal should result in definitive conditions for dating-app providers that wish to use the App Store,” it said.

If ACM comes to the conclusion that Apple does not meet the requirements, it may impose another order subject to periodic penalty payments (with possibly higher penalties this time around) in order to stimulate Apple to comply with the order.

On iPhones, dating apps can only be offered through the App Store, which makes dating-app providers highly dependent on Apple.

Dating-app providers thus have little choice but to accept Apple’s conditions.

“As Apple thus has a dominant position, strict rules apply to this situation. Under Dutch and European competition rules, that dominant position cannot be abused, for example, by setting unfair conditions,” said ACM.

IPL 2022: Shami credits his success against LSG to Test match learnings

0

Gujarat Titans pace bowler Mohammad Shami’s devastating bowling in the powerplay, which fetched his team a five-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants in a match between IPL newcomers, had class written all over it, and he credited his success to “hard work” over a long period of time.

By the time Lucknow Super Giants were done with the powerplay, they had lost their top order comprising KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, and Manish Pandey, with the 31-year-old Shami having superb figures of 3-0-10-3.

Asked about his spell, Shami told Star Sports that his learnings over the years in Test cricket were the reason for his success in limited-overs cricket as well.

“I warmed up well. You need to bowl a Test match length when you have these conditions: fresh wicket, little bit in the air,” said Shami.

Shami had swing and precision of seam as he went about his task in a cool and calculated manner. Before Monday’s game, Shami had taken only 18 wickets bowling in the powerplay in IPL matches at an average of 59.94 in 139 overs. But on Monday, he was simply unplayable in powerplay. He attributed the turnaround in the most crucial overs of a 20-over game to continuous hard work.

“I worked hard for a long time, and it’s only after that, that the seam comes out like that (straight),” added Shami.

Shami started Gujarat Titans’ journey in the IPL with a first-ball wicket. The seam was upright and the ball swerved in. It then broke away sharply to take an edge off Rahul’s bat to wicketkeeper Matthew Wade.

No less spectacular was the wicket of Quinton de Kock. Shami took it away for the first couple of balls and then brought the wrist into play by getting the third ball to swing in sharply to clean bowl the South African for seven.

David Miller, who had a role in making Gujarat Titans’ chase successful with a 21-ball 30, described Shami’s effort as “match-winning”.

“He was just hitting the area where bowlers want to hit every ball. He has a knack and a gift. To lead the team from the start the way he did was incredible. Obviously with a new team, first game, you want to start well, and that’s what he did,” said Miller.

Ireland women’s cricket team to tour Pakistan in historic series

0

The Ireland women’s cricket team will undertake its maiden tour of Pakistan when it plays a white-ball series in November this year. In fact, this will be the first time a senior Ireland team — men or women — will play in Pakistan.

The tour will begin with a three-match ODI series, followed by as many T20Is between November 6 and 18.

While the venues for the matches will be announced closer to the series, the ODIs form a part of the ICC Women’s Championship.

The two teams also form a part of the trio — the third team being Australia — that will play a T20I tri-series at the Bready Cricket Club in Ireland in July.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better start to 2022, following the announcement of full-time contracts. We have a busy summer ahead and are greatly looking forward to the prospect of playing Pakistan in an away series,” said Ireland skipper Laura Delany to ICC.

“As a squad, we haven’t traveled to Pakistan before, but now having qualified for the ICC Women’s Championship we have been presented with this opportunity, one that no doubt will be a good challenge towards the end of the year.

“Having not played in Asian conditions for a few years now due to COVID-19, with a young squad this will be an invaluable opportunity as we are set to play more regularly in this part of the world over coming years,” Delany added.

The two have faced each other on 33 occasions across all formats, with Pakistan winning 24 times and Ireland winning nine of them. They last met in the 2018 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, with Pakistan taking the game by 38 runs.

Schedule:

Nov 6 — 1st ODI; Nov 8 — 2nd ODI; Nov 11 — 3rd ODI; Nov 14 — 1st T20I; Nov 16 — 2nd T20I; Nov 18 — 3rd T20I.

Women’s World Cup: Blow for Australia as Ellyse Perry ruled out of semifinal

0

Six-time ICC Women’s World Cup champions Australia suffered a huge blow ahead of their semifinal against the West Indies at Basin Reserve on Wednesday as their star all-rounder Ellyse Perry was ruled out due to injury.

Perry had complained of back spasm during Australia’s group match against South Africa last week, where she left the field early after bowling just three overs and then failed to beat.

The Australian team management was quite optimistic till Monday that the 31-year-old would recover in time to take on West Indies, but the last-four clash has come too soon.

“Unfortunately she (Perry) just ran out of time to prove her fitness,” Australia captain Meg Lanning was quoted as saying by the ICC on Tuesday.

“We will keep assessing her if we are to progress in the tournament so unfortunate for her and the team, obviously a big blow, but we feel like we’ve got some good depth to be able to cover it and we’re going to have to do that tomorrow.”

Lanning is hopeful that Perry can be fit for the final, should Australia overcome West Indies in Wednesday’s semifinal.

“We haven’t looked too far ahead, we’ll keep assessing her if we are to progress but the team and squad is very focussed on tomorrow,” Lanning added. “I’m sure there’s work going on in the background to get her up if we were to get through.”

Young all-rounder Annabel Sutherland will likely replace Perry, while teenage pace bowler Darcie Brown is a certain starter after she sat out their final group match against Bangladesh.

Perry was named Player of the Match when Australia defeated the West Indies earlier in the tournament, following a superb spell of fast bowling that claimed top-order wickets of Deandra Dottin, Hayley Matthews, and Kycia Knight and netted figures of 3/22.

0

Gujarat Titans won the toss and elected to bowl first against Lucknow Super Giants in their maiden IPL match at the Wankhede Stadium here on Monday.

WB Guv meets Amit Shah, briefs him on ground situation in the state

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and reportedly apprised him about the ground situation in the state.

Though the details of the meeting which was held at Shah’s residence were not shared, it is understood that the West Bengal Governor has updated the Home Minister about the situation after eight persons including three women and two children were burnt alive in Baguti village in West Bengal’s Birbhum district on March 21.

He requested Shah for a speedy investigation of the case, a source in the Ministry said.

Dhankhar has been critical of the Mamata Banerjee-led state government in West Bengal and has been expressing his deep dissatisfaction with its work.

On March 24, Mamata Banerjee had visited Bogtui village where eight people were charred to death. The Trinamool Congress chief met the affected families and some villagers.

The case has been transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by the Calcutta High Court despite the state government’s strong plea to get the case investigated by the state police.

The West Bengal Assembly on Monday witnessed unruly scenes when a clash erupted on the floor of the House between legislators of the ruling Trinamool Congress and the Opposition BJP when the BJP demanded that Mamata Banerjee speaks in the House on the state’s law and order situation.

Did Alia Bhatt unfollow Rajamouli and delete ‘RRR’ posts on Instagram?

Bollywood star Alia Bhatt made her debut in the South with Rajamouli’s recent sensation ‘RRR’. It is being said that Alia isn’t quite happy with the brief screen space she has been allotted in the final cut of ‘RRR’.

It is reported that Alia Bhatt, who seems to be unhappy about her brief role in ‘RRR’ has apparently deleted a few posts related to ‘RRR’ from her Instagram feed. It is also rumored that Alia Bhatt unfollowed S.S. Rajamouli on Instagram, but there is no authentic evidence.

Folks also point out that Alia Bhatt, who was spotted publicizing ‘RRR’ before its postponement, had gone inactive during the second leg of RRR’s promotional campaign, except for one big event.

It is true that Rajamouli failed to pen the best of characters for Alia Bhatt in ‘RRR’, if her stardom across Bollywood is to be considered. So, no wonder even the actress is upset. Anyway, it is too early to draw any conclusions.
