WhatsApp to soon sync your chat history on multiple devices

0

Facebook-owned WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will soon allow it’s over two billion users to sync their chat history on at least four different devices.

Currently, WhatsApp works on a single device and it is not possible to use the account on multiple devices, the most requested demand from the users.

According to WABetainfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp in Beta, the messaging app is working on the possibility to use the same account on different devices.

“They are testing the feature in order to work with 4 devices at the same time,” the report said on Sunday.

WhatsApp is already working on creating an interface for Android as well as iOS.

“When the user wants to use WhatsApp on a second device, there is the need to copy the chat history. In this case, WhatsApp always requires a Wi-Fi connection, because it may use a large amount of your data plan,” said the report.

When WhatsApp has safely copied the chat history to the second device, it will be finally possible to use your account from it.

“Note that any message will be delivered to all your family devices, so your chat history will be always synced across platforms, and when you use or remove a device, your encryption key changes,” said the report.

When the encryption key changes during the process, all active chats will be notified.

WhatsApp has also reportedly developed an iPad app that will be released after the activation of the feature, so you will be able to use WhatsApp on your iPhone and your iPad at the same time.

The company used WhatsApp for Desktop for this test.

It is possible that WhatsApp will allow mobile devices to be connected to your main device later than WhatsApp for Desktop, according to the report.

Currently, one can simultaneously access one WhatsApp account both from a PC — through WhatsApp Web – and a smartphone.

Twitter working on new tool to help users view ‘quote retweets’

0

Twitter is working on a new feature where the users will be able to view retweets with quotes (formerly known as retweets with comments) on each of their posts.

The ‘quote retweets’ will now appear as “Quotes” under tweets, with their own counter, similar to how the number of retweets and likes are displayed.

The social network confirmed to The Verge that it is testing this new feature.

“A few months ago, we made Retweets with Comments more visible when you tap to see Retweets on a Tweet,” a Twitter spokesperson said.

“This is available to everyone. Now, we’re testing making Retweets with Comments accessible directly on the Tweet and new language (Quotes) to see if this makes them easier to access and more understandable,” the spokesperson was quoted as saying over the weekend.

In May, Twitter announced it is testing a new feature where it will show retweets with comments in a separate column or bar alongside the current retweet counter.

The move is to help users see “retweets with comments” in a simplified way.

The column will be separate from the current retweets counter but would be live in the same line underneath your post.

This feature would list all the retweets you get and separates those with comments from those without, making it easy to check if there’s somebody you can interact with.

Twitter is also working on a key feature that will let both Android and iOS users schedule a tweet to be released on a specific date and time.

Scheduling seems to be currently available only to some users on Twitter for desktop and will be available for all soon.

The micro-blogging feature is also experimenting with giving users a second opportunity to self-edit their tweets and replies if they contain harmful, abusive and hate content before they post it on the platform and face consequences for violating its policies.

UP woman commits suicide after allegedly being beaten up by police

0

A 22-year-old woman committed suicide in Uttar Pradesh’s Jalaun after she was allegedly beaten up by a police inspector.

The incident took place in the Naya Ramnagar area.

The deceased, Nishu Chaudhary, was found hanging by a noose at her house on Saturday. The family rushed her to the hospital but doctors declared her dead.

According to Nishu’s family, she had gone to the market in Baldau Chowk on Friday afternoon.

Some shopkeepers accused the victim and two of her friends of stealing passports and caught them. They called the police and handed them over to inspector Yogesh Pathak.

Police took the three to the Kotwali police station and after questioning they were handed over to their relatives.

Her family members said Yogesh Pathak beat up Nishu at the station. She was called to Kotwali by police again on Saturday and was stressed about it.

“She was very disturbed since the beating by the inspector,” said a family member.

After Nishu committed suicide, her family went to the police station and created a ruckus, demanding action against the inspector.

Circle Officer (CO) Santosh Kumar reached the spot and assured the family that the matter will be investigated.

Fiona Ferro ousts Anett Kontaveit to win Palermo Open title

0

Rising French star Fiona Ferro registered a straight-sets victory over No.4 seed Anett Kontaveit in what turned out to be a rather one-sided final of the 31st Palermo Ladies Open.

Ferro defeated Kontaveit 6-2, 7-5 in one hour and 43 minutes on Center Court on Sunday to secure her second career WTA title in an outstanding fashion.

The 23-year-old, who had been undefeated in two regional exhibition tournaments held while the WTA tour was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, rode that momentum through five more wins with the loss of just one set in Palermo.

“I think it was my best match of the week,” Ferro said after the match as per the official WTA website.

“I was feeling relaxed; I don’t know why because it was a final! I wasn’t really feeling the pressure. It was a tough match because she’s a really consistent player who doesn’t give you too many points.

“I had a good intensity throughout the whole match, I didn’t miss a lot, made a lot of winners, so I’m really happy to have the trophy with me.

“This title means a lot, especially after five tough months of practice. I was already feeling so happy just to be back on the court and competing, so this is an even nicer way to finish the week with the win,” she added.

Brazilian Serie A match postponed amid coronavirus outbreak

0

Sao Paulo’s opening match of the Brazilian Serie A season at Goias was postponed after the hosts reported 10 positive coronavirus cases.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) suspended Sunday’s clash just minutes before its scheduled kick-off at the Serra Dourada stadium in Goiania, reports Xinhua news agency.

In a statement, the CBF said the decision was based on a need to “preserve the health of the players”. It did not set a new date for the fixture.

Goias said tests were conducted on their players, coaching staff, and employees last week on Thursday, in line with CBF guidelines.

However, an error by the laboratory responsible for handling and processing the samples meant a new round of tests had to be conducted on Friday, for which the results only became known on Sunday afternoon. Goias said eight first-team players were among those to test positive.

The 2020 Brazilian Serie A season started on Saturday, three months later than originally planned because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Brazil has the second-highest number of coronavirus cases in the world with more than three million confirmed infections and 101,000 deaths.

Swastika Mukherjee: People tend to get intimidated by successful women

From trolling to rape threats, popular Bengali actress Swastika Mukherjee has dealt with a lot lately. The actress says in our society, successful women are always targeted and humiliated. However, she adds, she has never let people shame her for the choices she has made in life.

“In our society, people tend to get intimidated by successful women and therefore start trolling and humiliating you. Our hard work is always discounted, our talent never appreciated. If we are pretty and successful, we have mostly gossiped about, and it is said, ‘she must be sleeping around’. If I am really working hard to earn money and then buy an expensive car, they say, ‘she must have got a gift from her boss’. When a man buys the same car, society looks at it as a result of his hard work! But honestly, I am immune to such criticism,” Swastika told IANS.

“Now, when I hear anything of that sort, I am like ‘yeah, God has given me beautiful legs, what I do with it is my call’. I do not feel ashamed of my choices in life and the success I have achieved, because I did not get anything overnight. I have been working since the year 2000.” the actress added.

Besides numerous Bangla hits, Swastika has worked in Bollywood films such as “Dil Bechara” and “Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!”, besides the web series “Paatal Lok”. Although she is the daughter of veteran Bengali actor Santu Mukherjee, Swastika never ever wanted to be an actor.

“My father never took to a film set. Whenever my sister and I asked him if we could come along to his set, Baba would reply, ‘do your friends go to their father’s office? My film set is my workplace, my office. Why would you come to my office?” recalled Swastika.

“So, until I went for the shooting of my debut TV show, I did not know anything about the shooting. But honestly, in my first show, I was very bad, and people wrote reviews slamming me taking my father’s name. That was the time I realized I have to give my 100 percent to acting. I think the show ‘Ek Akasher Neeche’ changed everything for me. I worked on it for around three years,” she said.

Swastika refuses to get into the debate of nepotism. “If people say that it was easy for me to get into films, they are wrong. I have worked in TV for a good four years before I got film offers. So, I was not a random face, dropped with a glamorous debut! By the time I did my first film, I was known on TV,” mentioned Swastika.

BJP MP urges Modi to table Population Control Bill in Parliament

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Anil Agarwal has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to introduce the Population Control Bill in the next session of the Parliament.

In a letter addressed to Modi, the BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP said “population explosion” needs to be checked, and the only way to make India ‘Atmanirbhar’ or self-reliant to is to introduce the population control law.

“Everyone wants the population control law… be Hindu or Muslim. This law will eliminate most of the country’s problems. China (the world’s most populous country) will soon be left behind by the rate at which the population in India is increasing,” Agarwal told IANS.

“Arable land in the country is also continuously decreasing. If there is no population control law in time, many problems will arise,” the BJP MP said.

The letter addressed to PM Modi reads: “On August 15, 2019, you talked about population control while addressing the country from the Red Fort. The time has now come… I urge you to bring an effective population control bill in the next session of the Parliament.”

Agarwal said Modi stays firm on his promise — whether it is on Triple Talaq, Article 370 or Ram temple.

India conducts record tests with more than 7 lakh samples in 24 hrs

0

A record number of over 7 lakh samples of COVID-19 were tested in the last 24 hours taking the total tests conducted to 2,41,06,535, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Sunday.

A total of 7,19,364 tests were conducted increasing its frequency by more than a lakh from the previous day when 5,98,778 tests were conducted.

The ministry said that such a high level of testing would also lead to a high number of daily positive cases. However, states have been advised to firmly focus on comprehensive tracking, prompt isolation, and effective treatment.

It also added that such an approach has started showing results and recoveries are also increasing exponentially.

The recovery rate of COVID-19 has improved to 68.3 percent from 48.2 percent a month earlier. Between June 6 and August 8, the recovery rate increased by 20 percent.

Meanwhile, India’s COVID caseload rose to 21,53,010 on Saturday recording the highest single-day surge in fresh infections at 64,398 and 861 deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of active cases stood at 6,28,747 and recoveries surged to 14,80,884. The death toll has increased to 43,379, the ministry said on its website.

Unique police cafe opens in Muzaffarnagar

0

After setting up a washing line for police personnel in April this year, Muzaffarnagar SSP Abhishek Yadav has now opened a ‘police cafe’ in the district.

The cafe will serve healthy organic meals, fresh fruit juices, smoothies, ‘daliya’, ‘poha’, and food cooked in olive oil. The cafe also has a gym attached to it.

“Policemen need to follow a highly exhaustive schedule of duty that seldom gives them the opportunity to avail of a proper diet. Cases of hypertension, diabetes, and stress are common among the UP police force. This facility is aimed at alleviating such health problems. Improper diet and lack of awareness for a healthy lifestyle were also the reasons behind opening such a unique cafe,” the SSP said.

The police department has hired trained chefs and deliverymen who will run the cafe along with police staff. Next to the cafe, a gym with all modern equipment was also ‘gifted’ to the cops.

The air-conditioned police cafe that has eye-catching interiors will also serve jaggery-added drinks – as using sugar in any product here is ‘banned’.

SSP Yadav said he had worked on the idea for nearly six months.

“This unique concept will be upgraded once we start getting more feedback. It may be then introduced to other police stations as well,” the SSP added.

The cafe will also deliver food orders to various city spots and will remain open till 9 pm.

Wouldn’t call it financial crisis: Ganguly on Vivo’s exit

0

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly stated that Vivo’s exit as title sponsor for the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) shouldn’t be seen as the financial crisis.

The BCCI, last week, had decided to officially announce the suspension of the partnership with title sponsors Vivo. The move came after the BCCI and the IPL Governing Council were both criticised for retaining Vivo as the title sponsor amid the raging anti-China sentiment.

“I wouldn’t call it as a financial crisis,” Ganguly said while speaking during a webinar organized by Learnflix, as per ESPNCricinfo. “It’s just a little bit of a blip. And the only way you can do it is by being professionally strong over a period of time.A

“Big things don’t come overnight. And big things don’t go away overnight. Your preparation for a long period of time gets (you) ready for losses, gets you ready for success.

“You keep your other options open. It is like Plan A and Plan B. Sensible people do it. Sensible brands do it. Sensible corporates do it. BCCI, it’s a very strong foundation – the game, the players, the administrators in the past have made this game so strong that BCCI is able to handle all these blips,” he added.

Meanwhile, the suspension of Vivo’s title sponsorship has opened up the market for a new brand to come in for the cash-rich league. Market experts believe it will be a case of one from either e-commerce or e-learning companies coming in with the telecom sector playing the role of the dark horse.

Robert Pattinson’s sneaky ‘Batman’ audition story

Actor Robert Pattinson said he lied to filmmaker Christopher Nolan to make it to the screen test for a superhero film, The Batman.

In an interview with Irish Times, Pattinson recalled his attempt to sneak away from the “Tenet” set for his “Batman” audition. He said that he cited “family emergency” for his absence from the sets of “Tenet”, but the filmmaker was quick to figure out the truth, reports ew.com.

“It’s funny because Chris is so secretive about everything to do with his movies,” Pattinson said, adding: “And then I had to be really secretive about Batman stuff. So I had to lie to Chris about having to go for a screen test an” I said I had a family emergency. And as soon as I said ‘it’s a family emergency’ he said: “You’re doing the Batman audition, aren’t you?'”

Nolan is known for putting his own spin on Batman with the “Dark Knight” trilogy.

Pattinson credits “Tenet” for helping him get in shape for the role of the caped crusader.

“When I’m running on screen I’m generally paired with John David (Washington) who is an ex-NFL player so it was the most unfair thing in the world. The maximum workout I do most of the time is a casual stroll. John David can run all day long. It was good that I ended up being pretty fit. But definitely, in the beginning, there were days I just could not walk afterward,” Pattinson said.

Nolan’s “Tenet” has been described as “an action epic evolving from the world of international espionage”. The second trailer of the film came with hints of ‘inversion’ versus time travel as a part of survival. The latest trailer of the action thriller gives a glimpse into the mission that the protagonist secret agents, essayed by Pattinson and Washington, embark on, in a time-bending mission to prevent World War III.

The supporting cast includes Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Kenneth Branagh, Michael Caine, Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Clemence Poesy. The film has been shot across seven countries — India, the US, the UK, Denmark, Estonia, Italy, and Norway.

Dravid was a difficult and determined batsman: Akhtar

0

Former Pakistan fast-bowler Shoaib Akhtar said that Indian batting great Rahul Dravid was a difficult proposition for him to bowl. Akhtar said that Dravid’s determination and ability meant that the latter could play him pretty easily.

“Dravid was a difficult and determined batsman. It was difficult for me as well as him. He would play me quite easily,” said Akhtar on former India batsman and commentator Aakash Chopra’s YouTube show AakashVani.

Explaining the training he got at club level during his developmental years, Akhtar said, “If a batsman used to play the ball late like Rahul Dravid, we would bowl him length balls. From close to the stump we would aim at the gap between bat and pad, try to hit the ball on the pad.”

Akhtar also recalled a time when he had managed to get Dravid out LBW in Bengaluru but the umpire did not give the decision in Pakistan’s favor.

“There was a final match in Bangalore, I had dismissed Sadagoppan Ramesh early, we took 3-4 wickets early. Sachin Tendulkar was not playing. Shahid Afridi and I said Rahul Dravid will take a lot of time and it’s Friday night today. Afridi said bowl something and take his wicket else he will play for long,” Akhtar recalled.

“I hit him directly on the pad and urged the umpire to raise his fingers. I even said it’s our Friday night. He did not give the decision in our favor but we had won in the end.”

Kohli, Azam play in straight lines like Tendulkar did: Bishop

0

Former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop said that the way Pakistan’s Babar Azam and India captain Virat Kohli play in straight lines reminds him of batting great Sachin Tendulkar.

“Virat Kohli, Babar Azam, who in terms of the straight lines, you remember Sachin Tendulkar,” Bishop told former Zimbabwe pacer Pommie Mbangwa in an Instagram live video chat.

“There’s a reason why I think he was the best batsman I bowled to as he always played in the straight lines and these two guys (Kohli, Azam) present that,” Bishop said.

Comparison between Kohli and Babar has increased over the past couple of years with the latter finding his rhythm in Test cricket as well. 25-year-old Babar is ranked no.1 in ICC’s T20I batsmen’s list while Kohli is ranked 10th.

However, Kohli is top of the rankings in ODIs, a list in which Babar is third and is second only to Steve Smith in the Test rankings. Babar is sixth in the longest format of the game.

The pair are also at very different stages of their career. While Babar is considered as a future star, 31-year-old Kohli is already recognized as one of the best batsmen in the world across formats.

Mukhtar Ansari’s aide, accomplice shot dead by STF in Lucknow

0

A dreaded shooter, said to be a close aide of mafia don turned politician Mukhtar Ansari, was gunned down along with an accomplice by a team of Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) on the outskirts of Lucknow on Sunday morning.

Officials said that shooter Rakesh Pandey aka Hanuman Pandey carried a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head.

STF IG Amitabh Yash said Pandey was gunned down in retaliatory firing when the STF team tried to arrest him after he went to an area falling in Sarojini Nagar police station limits to meet one of his accomplices.

Police said Pandey was involved in a number of murders and shootouts carried out by the Ansari’s gang in the past 23 years. He was also accused of hatching a conspiracy to kill BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai, who was shot dead in 2005.

Pandey was, however, acquitted after a trial in a subordinate court.

The police officer said Pandey had at least 10 criminal cases registered against him between 1993 and 2010. He said the criminal was untraceable for the last 10 years or so.

Police were continuously trying to track him down for the past many months, the IG said.

Hamilton fears tyres could explode again at Silverstone

0

Mercedes F1 driver Lewis Hamilton urged for more tyre management ahead of 70th Anniversary Grand Prix at Silverstone as he fears his tyres could explode again if he pushes them at the iconic circuit.

Hamilton’s teammate Valtteri Bottas saw his tyre deflate two laps before the finish at the British Grand Prix last week and the same fate awaited the Brit on the final lap.

Hamilton somehow managed to drag the car over the line, as sparks kept flying underneath his vehicle, just five seconds ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. Before the tyre mishap, Hamilton held a 32-second lead over the Belgian-Dutch racer, going into the final lap.

“I honestly haven’t even looked into a race scenario with the soft tyres so I don’t really know,” Hamilton told reporters as per Daily Mail.

“I would imagine there’s going to be some sort of management. We don’t want to push these things because they might explode,” he added.

Hamilton, meanwhile, will be starting at second place on the grid as teammate Bottas took the pole position at the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix.

Bottas managed a time of 1:25.154 while Hamilton was marginally behind him with 1:25.217. Racing Points’ Nico Hulkenberg did a time of 1:26.082, beating his teammate Lance Stroll in all segments of qualifying. Stroll finished sixth with a time of 1:27.187.

For Bottas, this is the 13th pole position as he gets some much-needed momentum in the fight for the Championship. The Finn has won the last two races he has started from P1.

Rajnath promised a bang, but ended with whimper: Chidambaram

0

After Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced an import embargo on 101 defense items, senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram took a dig at him on Sunday and called his announcement a “whimper”.

“The Defence Minister promised a ‘bang’ on a Sunday morning and ended with a ‘whimper’!” Chidambaram said in a statement.

Earlier in the day, Rajnath said: “The Ministry of Defence is now ready for a big push to the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The MoD will introduce an import embargo on 101 items beyond the given timeline to boost indigenization of defense production.”

Chidambaram pointed out that the only importer of defense equipment in India is the Defence Ministry. “Any import embargo is really an embargo on oneself.”

“What the Defence Minister said in his historic Sunday announcement deserved only an office order from the minister to his secretaries!” he added.

The Congress leader also said that the ‘import embargo’ is “high-sounding jargon”.

“But what it means is we will try to make the same equipment (that we import today) in 2 to 4 years and stop imports thereafter!” the former Finance Minister said.

Rajnath on Sunday announced the ban on import of 101 items to make the Indian defense industry self-reliant and boost indigenization.

The list of 101 embargoed items comprises not just simple parts but also some high technology weapon systems like artillery guns, assault rifles, corvettes, sonar systems, transport aircraft, light combat helicopters, and radars.

PM launches Rs 1 lakh cr Agriculture Infrastructure Fund

0

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched the financing facility under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund worth Rs 1 lakh crore.

The agriculture infrastructure fund was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat economic package in May.

It will provide for funding of agriculture infrastructure projects at the farm-gate and aggregation points such as primary agricultural cooperative societies, farmer producer organizations, and agriculture entrepreneurs, among others. Infrastructure to be created through the fund would include post-harvest infrastructures and community farming assets such as cold storage, collection centers, and processing units.

This will provide an impetus for the development of other financially viable post-harvest management infrastructure, as per the government.

It was announced in view of the lack of adequate cold chain and post-harvest management infrastructure in the vicinity of farm-gate that causes gaps in value chains.

The Prime Minister also initiated the transfer of Rs 17,100 crore benefit to bank accounts of 8.55 crore farmers under the PM-KISAN scheme.

During the virtual launch program, Modi also talked to farmers across states through video conferencing.

Lili Reinhart on her decision to come out as bisexual

Actress Lili Reinhart said she was attracted to women from a young age, and people close to her knew her truth all along.

In an interview to Flaunt magazine, the “Riverdale” star revealed that she felt comfortable coming out after experiencing an abundance of solidarity while marching at a protest alongside the LGBTQ community, reported people.com.

“I knew full well that I was attracted to women from a young age,” she said, adding: “I felt that since I’ve exclusively been in hetero-normative relationships, it would be too easy for any outsider, especially the media, to vilify me and accuse me of faking it to get attention.”

The 23-year-old added: “That’s not something I wanted to deal with. But to my close friends, and those in my life, my bisexuality has been no secret.”

In June, the “Riverdale” star shared in an Instagram Story that she would be attending an LGBTQ for Black Lives Matter protest in Los Angeles, which was meant for members of the LGBTQ community who were standing in solidarity with the anti-racism movement.

“Although I’ve never announced it publicly before, I am a proud bisexual woman,” she wrote at the time, adding: “And I will be joining this protest today. Come join.”

Reinhart most recently dated her “Riverdale” co-star Cole Sprouse. The pair were first linked in July 2017 and seemingly split for the first time in July 2019 before they rekindled their romance two months later.
