Vijay Deverakonda’s unreleased projects have always sparked curiosity among his fans, and one such forgotten film has now returned to the spotlight. As audiences gear up for the teaser of his upcoming film Ranabaali, scheduled to arrive on September 9, fresh details about his shelved 2019 project Hero have surfaced.
At the Sardar 2 pre-release event, Mythri Movie Makers producer Y. Ravi Shankar recalled the making of Hero and revealed that the team had actually completed a portion of the shoot before the project was eventually shelved.
Hero was launched in grand fashion in May 2019. Directed by Anand Annamalai, the film featured Malavika Mohanan as the female lead, while Vijay Deverakonda was set to play a biker in the sports-action drama. The project created considerable buzz at the time, particularly because of its unique storyline and Vijay’s involvement.
However, after completing one shooting schedule, the film was put on hold and eventually failed to progress. Vijay had earlier indicated that the project required more time, but Hero never returned to production and ultimately remained unreleased.
Ravi Shankar’s recent comments have once again drawn attention to the project, especially since Malavika Mohanan is now associated with Sardar 2. The revelation that a portion of Hero had already been filmed makes the shelved project even more intriguing for Vijay’s followers.
Interestingly, Hero was backed by Mythri Movie Makers, the same production house that previously collaborated with Vijay on Dear Comrade and Khushi. The banner is now working with the actor again on Ranabaali, which is directed by Rahul Sankrityan.
While Hero remains one of the unrealised projects in Vijay Deverakonda’s career, the latest revelation offers fans a glimpse into a film that had moved beyond the announcement stage and had actually begun filming before meeting an unexpected end.
