The Delhi Airport authorities have closed one runway at the Indira Gandhi International Airport following due to the severe air pollution levels existing in Delhi-NCR region. 300 domestic flights have been canceled by the airport authorities.

Following this, Delhi-Mumbai air ticket prices have soared. It was reported that the fare touched Rs. 1 Lakh mark. Later it was found it was a rumor. The prices are touching the Rs. 50, 000 bracket from the last two days, and it is likely to touch the Rs. 60, 000 mark.

The prices in Delhi-Mumbai corridor are currently at 40% above normal. Air ticket for Delhi-Mumbai corridor on Wednesday was between Rs. 24, 000 to Rs. 29, 000 depending on the departure time and the airline.

On an average, the air ticket prices are 19% more in comparison to last month for the same ticket. With the closure of one runway at the IGI, and airlines upping the prices, the passengers would think twice before going ahead with the ticket. The normal prices in this corridor between Rs. 7,000 to Rs. 10,000.

The Delhi IGI Airport handles 67 flights per hour. After close one of its runway between November 7th and November 10th, the IGI authorities have reduced the flights to 45 per hour.
