Kuberaa Review: Story Summary

Kuberaa begins with Neeraj Mitra (Jim Sarbh) discovering an oil reserve in the Bay of Bengal. With power on his mind, he ropes in Deepak (Nagarjuna), a former CBI officer turned prisoner, to pull off a secret operation. Deepak gathers beggars, including Deva (Dhanush), for the task, but when Deva learns the truth, he escapes. On the run, he meets Sameera (Rashmika Mandanna), and what unfolds is a journey about morality, survival, and the human cost of ambition.

Plus Points

  • Dhanush delivers one of his career-best performances, embodying innocence and strength with brilliance.

  • Nagarjuna’s layered portrayal of a conflicted officer adds emotional weight.

  • Jim Sarbh impresses in a limited but critical role.

  • Strong emotional payoff in the pre-climax and climax.

  • Sekhar Kammula’s direction brings realism and heart to a socio-political thriller.

Minus Points

  • The first half’s pacing is uneven.

  • Some scenes feel repetitive and could have used tighter editing.

  • Rashmika’s character is underwritten despite her potential.

  • Deva–Deepak bond needed deeper development.

Technical Brilliance

  • Cinematography by Niketh Bommireddy stands out with gritty realism.

  • DSP’s background score lifts key moments without overpowering them.

  • Production design and makeup enhance the authentic look and feel of the characters.

Verdict

Kuberaa is a gripping, emotional, and thought-provoking drama with standout performances. Despite its slow start, the film rewards patient viewers with a powerful second half and a strong social message. It’s not just a movie—it’s a reflection on power, poverty, and survival.

Rating: 3.75/5
Recommended for fans of realistic cinema, Dhanush admirers, and those who appreciate socially driven stories.
