Owaisi Encourages Muslim Youth to Participate in Politics and Contest Elections

Owaisi Encourages Muslim Youth to Participate in Politics and Contest Elections:

AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi encourages Muslim candidates to participate in elections, emphasizing that contesting, even if they don’t win initially, helps them discover their potential. He made these remarks at the launch of a book titled “Absent in Politics and Power: Political Exclusion of Indian Muslims” by retired IPS officer Abdur Rahman.

Owaisi pointed out that Muslim representation in Indian politics has historically been disproportionate to their population. He argued that claims of discrimination starting in 2014 are an attempt to obscure the longstanding issue of underrepresentation. He noted that even before 2014, Muslim political representation faced challenges in various elections, including in 1952, 1954, and during the emergency period.

Currently, he highlighted that only four percent of Members of Parliament are Muslims. Of these, only two MPs won from constituencies with 10 to 15 percent Muslim population, while the rest secured victory in areas with over 30 percent Muslim population, implying that secular parties did not necessarily favor them.

Women’s Reservation Bill: Sonia Gandhi Asserts, ‘It’s Ours, Apna Hai’:

Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP), responded to the news of the Union Cabinet’s approval of the Women’s Reservation Bill by asserting, “It is ours, apna hai.” She made this remark upon her arrival at Parliament on Tuesday morning.

This statement from Sonia Gandhi came following the Union Cabinet’s decision, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to approve the Constitution Amendment Bill, which paves the way for the introduction of the historic Women’s Reservation Bill in the ongoing special session of Parliament. The Congress, during its recent Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, had passed a resolution demanding the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Parliament Special Session.

On the previous day, leaders like Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, NCP leader Supriya Sule, and Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had also urged the passage of the Bill in the Special Session. It’s worth noting that the Bill, which aims to reserve 33 percent of seats for women, was initially proposed by the H.D. Deve Gowda government in 1996.

While the Rajya Sabha passed the bill in 2010, it could not secure passage in the Lok Sabha and lapsed following its dissolution in 2014.

Modi Cabinet Approves Women’s Reservation Bill

Modi Cabinet Approves Women’s Reservation Bill:

In a momentous decision, the Union Cabinet, on Monday, approved the Women’s Reservation Bill (WRB).

Prahlad Patel, the Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, and Jal Shakti confirmed this significant development on a social media platform but later deleted the post.

He had originally posted, “Only the Modi government had the moral courage to meet the demand for women’s reservation, as demonstrated by the cabinet’s approval. Kudos to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and accolades to the Modi government.”

The Constitution Amendment Bill aims to allocate one-third (33 percent) of the total seats in state legislative Assemblies and Parliament for women. The bill also suggests a sub-reservation within the 33 percent quota for SCs and STs. These reserved seats may be rotated among different constituencies in the state or union territory.

Reacting to this development, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh posted on social media, “The Congress party has long advocated for the implementation of women’s reservation. We appreciate the news of the Union Cabinet’s decision and are looking forward to the specifics of the Bill. It would have been beneficial if this matter had been deliberated in an all-party meeting prior to the Special Session, allowing for the formation of a consensus rather than operating in a secretive manner.”

Numerous governments, including those led by Rajiv Gandhi, Deve Gowda, Atal Behari Vajpayee, and Manmohan Singh, had attempted to pass a law on women’s reservation but faced strong opposition from parties in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

While most of their bills expired without becoming law, the Manmohan Singh government introduced the Bill in the Rajya Sabha on May 6, 2008, to prevent it from lapsing.

The Rajya Sabha approved the Bill on March 9, 2010, with 186 votes in favor and one opposing it. However, the Bill was not taken up in the Lok Sabha before its term ended. It’s worth noting that Bills passed in the Rajya Sabha do not expire.

Pawan Khera Clarifies, I.N.D.I.A. Didn’t Ban Anchors, Rejects Hate Agenda

I.N.D.I.A. Didn’t Ban Anchors, Rejects Hate Agenda,” Pawan Khera Clarifies:

In response to criticism from BRS MLC K. Kavitha, Pawan Khera, Chairman of the AICC Media and Publicity Department, advised her to focus on the unfulfilled promises of the BRS government and concentrate on her own electoral seat for the upcoming assembly elections. During the CWC (Congress Working Committee) meeting held in Hyderabad, Khera stated, “After the Bharat Jodo yatra, the BJP appears to be confused as discussing people’s issues is not within their purview. This is beyond their scope.

The agenda will now be determined by the people rather than from Nagpur. Modi and Shah are now compelled to address these issues.” He also mentioned that previously, the BJP would often raise imaginary controversies, but the yatra addressed the media’s concerns that Congress was not visible on the streets. He highlighted the recent historic election in which Mallikarjun Kharge was elected president, underscoring the party’s commitment to democratic processes. Regarding the party’s stance on certain anchors, Khera clarified, “We have not banned any anchors. We simply refuse to engage with the hate agenda they promote.

Pawan Khera also addressed the issue of “one nation, one poll,” suggesting that it emerged in response to revelations about Adani.
