Samsung gets US FDA nod for ECG app on Galaxy Watches

0

Samsung on Thursday said it has received the clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring app on Galaxy Watch3 and Galaxy Watch Active2.

South Korea was the only country to date where Samsung’s ECG monitoring function had been approved.

“People in the US will have access to yet another next-generation feature, as on-demand electrocardiogram (ECG) readings come to Galaxy Watch3 and Galaxy Watch Active2,” Samsung said in a statement.

This tool will soon be available through the Samsung Health Monitor app when connected to a compatible Galaxy smartphone.

The new ECG Monitor app allows users to monitor their heart rhythm for irregularities, scanning for signs of Atrial Fibrillation.

To use the ECG Monitor app, simply take a seat, open up the new Samsung Health Monitor app, and ensure your watch is snug your wrist.

Rest your arm on a flat surface, place your fingertip on the top button, and your watch will record an ECG and classify it as either Sinus Rhythm, or AFib.

“Once the reading is complete, users can record relevant symptoms like fatigue or dizziness, and send a PDF report of their ECG recording with their healthcare provider using the Samsung Health Monitor app on a compatible Galaxy smartphone,” the company said.

In addition to ECG monitoring, one can also conveniently track oxygen saturation on Galaxy Watch3.

This feature can help users get a sense of how well their respiratory system is transferring oxygen into the bloodstream for fitness or other general wellness purposes.

To help improve sleep, Galaxy Watch3 also comes with advanced sleep-tracking features, which measure breathing, vitals, and REM cycles throughout the night, then use an algorithm to score your rest for the evening.

Galaxy Watch Active2 also supports new tools like Running Analysis, VO2 max, and Fall Detection.

BBL: Ben Cutting leaves Brisbane Heat to join Sydney Thunder

0

Australia all-rounder Ben Cutting has signed a two-year deal with Sydney Thunder ahead of the upcoming edition of the Big Bash League (BBL).

Cutting’s wholehearted performances for Brisbane Heat made him a crowd favorite as he became the Heat’s highest wicket-taker with 63 scalps and its second-highest run-scorer with 1,199 runs at a formidable strike-rate of 145.50.

The former international, who represented Australia in both formats of limited-overs cricket, said while there were compelling reasons for him to join the Thunder, there was one he couldn’t ignore.

“The people,” Cutting said in an official statement. “A great cricket team is always made even better by the people that are part of it. I’ve always found in my experience that playing with good people breeds good culture and that breeds success… that’s one of the things that really attracted me to the Sydney Thunder.”

The all-rounder also said Thunder coach Shane Bond was a “very big factor” in his move.

“I had ‘Bondy’ as a bowling coach at the Heat, alongside Dan Vettori, for quite a few years. He was also my bowling coach in the IPL at the Mumbai Indians.

“So, I know him really well and he knows me – and my game – really well. He knows how to get the best out of me. He’s very diligent, which is what I like… very professional and very diligent…but he’s someone who has a lot of fun in coaching as well which is what the Big Bash is all about,” he added.

Bond said while his respect for Cutting as a talented player and decent person were key reasons for his decision to target him, he added the Queenslander’s ability to bat at No. 6 and score runs quickly was just as crucial a ‘must-have’ as his bowling.

“We were looking to bring in some experience,” said the former Black Caps pacer. “If you want to be there at the business end you need those experienced players, and we were also looking for players that can bring a unique skill set.”

Thunder are set to open their tenth BBL campaign on December 5 against the Melbourne Stars at the MCG, before playing its first game at Sydney Showground Stadium on December 8.

WhatsApp testing ‘Expiring Media’ feature in Beta app

0

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new ‘Expiring Media’ feature that will let users send self-destructing media on the popular messaging app.

The upcoming ‘Expiring Media’ feature is an extension to another under-development feature called ‘Expiring Messages’.

WABetainfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp in Beta, has spotted Expiring Media as part of WhatsApp for Android’s new beta version 2.20.201.1.

This upcoming WhatsApp feature is similar to that found in Snapchat, which was later copied by Instagram.

When this feature will be enabled, users will have an option to set expiration when they share media files, the report said.

Those who will receive any “Expiring Media” can only view them for a single time and once they exit the chat, they will disappear without any trace unlike the “This message was deleted” message when the sender deletes messages.

The feature will be visible only to admins of a group. For individual chats, the feature will offer various options that the user can select for the app to automatically delete messages.

WhatsApp will also show a ‘timer’ symbol on the profile picture when the feature is enabled in a specific chat.

Currently, there is no word on when exactly the feature will arrive for users or whether or not users will be able to screenshot the same.

Once available, the earlier ‘Expiring Message’ feature which is also in Beta currently will come with a toggle on/off button and users can choose a stipulated time — 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, or 1 year — for the messages to automatically disappear.

Google Assistant to help you stretch, walk, drink water during WFH

0

To ensure productivity along with enough self-care in between, Google has introduced a new Workday routine that makes Google Assistant help you stretch, walk, and drink water as you work from home.

Available in English, the new workday routine automatically reminds you of all the small and big things to do throughout your workday – from staying on top of your calendar to taking a break away from the desk.

After you enable the routine in the Assistant settings on your Android or iOS device, you can start with a pre-set routine.

For example, at 2 p.m., Google Assistant might suggest going for a walk, and then to grab a glass of water at 3 p.m.

“At 4:45 p.m., you’ll be reminded to start wrapping things up. Assistant will also regularly share the time with you throughout the day so that you don’t lose track of upcoming meetings,” said Alice Liang, Product Manager at Google.

Google Assistant can also help create to-do lists or set reminders to stay on top of your workload.

You’ll be able to pull up your to-do list at any time or get a notification for upcoming reminders from any of your Assistant-enabled devices.

It’s also important to take time to disconnect from work.

Simply say “Hey Google, silence my phone” to turn on Do Not Disturb.

One can also use that command for any specific Assistant-enabled devices, like Google Nest speakers or displays.

Over the next few days, Google will roll out the ‘Gentle Sleep and Wake’ feature to all smart lights at home.

In the evening, just say “Hey Google, sleep my lights at 10:00 p.m.” as a reminder to get to bed on time, and let the soothing experience lull you to sleep. Similarly, saying “Hey Google, wake my lights at 8:00 a.m”.

Microsoft announces Azure Communication Services

0

In an effort to help customers connect better with businesses in the remote working times, Microsoft has announced Azure Communication Services which is the first fully managed communication platform offering from a major Cloud provider.

With the Azure Communication Services, businesses can build and deploy on the same low latency global communication network used by Microsoft Teams to support over 5 billion meeting minutes in a single day.

It also enables developers to easily tap into other Azure services, such as Azure Cognitive Services for translation, sentiment analysis, and more.

“Additionally, companies benefit from all communications being encrypted to meet privacy and compliance needs, such as US HIPAA (The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and GDPR (in the EU),” Microsoft said in a statement on Wednesday.

Azure Communication Services makes it easy to add voice and video calling, chat, and SMS text message capabilities to mobile apps, desktop applications, and websites with just a few lines of code.

Developer-friendly APIs and SDKs make it easy to create personalized communication experiences quickly, without having to worry about complex integrations.

These capabilities can be used on virtually any platform and device, Microsoft said.

“In this remote-first world, businesses are looking to quickly adapt to customers’ needs and connect with them through engaging communication experiences. Building new communication solutions or integrating them into existing applications can be complex and time-consuming,” said Scott Van Vliet Corporate Vice President, Intelligent Communications.

Azure Communication Services brings together the best of communication technology, development efficiency, cloud-scale, and enterprise-grade security so “businesses can start creating more meaningful customer interactions on a secure, global platform in days, not months”, he added.

Google adds Covid layer in Maps for safe travel in 220 nations

0

In a bid to help people navigate safely in the pandemic times, Google has added the COVID layer in Maps that will show critical information about Covid-19 cases in an area people plan to visit in 220 countries.

The COVID layer in Google Maps will start rolling out worldwide on Android and iOS this week.

Data featured in the COVID layer comes from multiple authoritative sources, including Johns Hopkins, the New York Times, and Wikipedia who, in turn, get data from public health organizations like the World Health Organisation, government health ministries, along with state and local health agencies and hospitals.

When you open Google Maps, tap on the layers button on the top right-hand corner of the screen and click on “Covid-19 info”.

“You’ll then see a seven-day average of new COVID cases per 100,000 people for the area of the map you’re looking at, and a label that indicates whether the cases are trending up or down,” Sujoy Banerjee, Product Manager, Google Maps, said in a statement on Wednesday.

Colour coding will also help people easily distinguish the density of new cases in an area.

Trending case data is visible at the country level for all 220 countries and territories that Google Maps supports, along with state or province, county, and city-level data where available.

More than one billion people turn to Google Maps for essential information about how to get from place to place – especially during the pandemic when safety concerns are top of mind.

“Features like popular times and live busyness, Covid-19 alerts in transit, and COVID checkpoints in driving navigation were all designed to help you stay safe when you’re out and about,” Banerjee said.

Twitter to soon begin testing voice DMs

0

Twitter is experimenting with a new feature that will let users record and send voice messages via Direct Messages (DMs) to friends and family members on the platform.

Alex Ackerman-Greenberg who is product manager for DMs at Twitter said the company is going to test voice DMs soon, The Verge reported on Thursday.

Brazil will be the first country for the voice DMs test.

“We know people want more options for how they express themselves in conversations on Twitter — both publicly and privately,” the Twitter executive was quoted as saying in the report.

Facebook and Instagram already have audio recording feature in DMs.

In June this year, Twitter rolled out a test for a limited number of iOS users in the US to record audio snippets and attach those to tweets.

The users will soon be able to post a 140-second long audio tweet, along with the 280 characters as text, as the

Each voice Tweet captures up to 140 seconds of audio. To recall, Twitter originally had a 140-character limit for tweets, which was later increased to 280.

Audio can only be added to original tweets and the users can’t include those in replies or retweets with a comment.

People will see your voice Tweet appear on their timeline alongside other Tweets.

Twitter hopes that voice tweeting will create a more human experience for listeners and storytellers alike.

Twitter is also working on adding automated captions to audio and video by early 2021, a feature that would help people with disabilities access the service in a much meaningful way.

5th grader wins ‘2020 Doodle for Google’ for spreading kindness

Sharon Sara who is in the fifth grade in Texas has won the 2020 Doodle for Google contest who will receive a $30,000 college scholarship, and her school, Vaughn Elementary School, will receive a $50,000 technology package from the tech giant.

The Doodle made by Sara, titled ‘Together As One,’ highlights the importance of inclusion and acceptance, and was inspired by her personal experiences with friendship and her strong commitment to spreading kindness.

“I thought about my personal experiences. People have not wanted to be my friend because of how I look, so I decided to draw what I do! No matter what people look like, you look on the inside and then decide if you want to be their friend,” Sara said.

“Kindness to me means to not look at someone from the outside, but look at their personality, and be open to their friendship”.

This year’s Doodle for Google contest was one for the books.

“We received tens of thousands of entries from students all over the nation answering our prompt “I show kindness by…” The student entrants this year blew us away with their empathy, artistic talent and eloquence,” Google said in a statement on Wednesday.

Facebook steps up efforts to protect Myanmar polls

0

Facing flak for failing to prevent hate speech from spreading on its platform in Myanmar, Facebook has announced additional steps aimed at protecting the integrity of the November elections in the country.

The social network who had admitted that they have been “too slow” to prevent the spread of misinformation and hate speech in Myanmar said it will significantly reduce the distribution of content that its proactive detection technology identifies as likely hate speech.

“This content will be removed if determined to violate our policies, but its distribution will remain reduced until that determination is made,” it said in a blog post on Wednesday.

Facebook said it is using technology to identify new words and phrases associated with hate speech in Myanmar.

“We are constantly revising and updating the list of Myanmar-specific, prohibited words, and phrases,” it said.

Late last month, four human rights groups claimed that the social networking giant played a role in the 2017 violence in Myanmar that forced hundreds of thousands of Rohingyas to seek refuge in Bangladesh.

Representatives of the Voice of Rohingya, Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights, Rohingya Youth for Legal Action, and Rohingya Women for Justice and Peace said they had a phone call with Facebook Director for Human Rights Miranda Sissons, and her colleague Alex Waraofka.

“We told her that we were forced to flee from Myanmar to Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh after the violence in Myanmar, which Facebook played a role in,” said the joint statement.

“Now, it is Facebook’s duty to help us to get justice and, and to improve our lives in the camp,” it added.

Facebook said in a fresh statement that it will improve efforts to temporarily reduce the distribution of content from accounts that have recently and repeatedly violated its policies in the country. This includes providing additional information to those whose accounts are affected.

“We work with third-party fact-checkers around the world, including three partners in Myanmar who are certified by the International Fact-Checking Network, to provide people with additional context about the content they’re seeing on Facebook”.

The company said it is also working across Myanmar to train civil society organizations and reporters on journalist safety, media, and digital literacy, as well as Facebook’s Community Standards and third-party fact-checking programs.

“We’ve also introduced tools to newsrooms in Myanmar such as CrowdTangle, a public insights tool from Facebook that makes it easy to follow, analyze and report on what’s happening with public content on social media,” Facebook said.

The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) said last month that the international community must adapt its assistance to the critical needs of those displaced and the host communities supporting them.

UNHRC spokesperson Andrej Mahecic said the UN refugee agency and the Bangladesh government have individually registered over 860,000 Rohingya refugees in the Cox’s Bazar settlements.

The country now hosts nine out of 10 Rohingya refugees registered in the Asia-Pacific region.

Prajnesh Gunneswaran fails to enter French Open main draw

0

India’s Prajnesh Gunneswaran failed to make it to the main draw of the French Open, starting Sunday, after losing to Aleksandar Vukic of Australia in the second round of the men’s singles qualifying event.

On Wednesday, Gunneswaran lost 6-4, 7-6 (4), and was knocked out of the qualifiers.

The Indian, ranked 141, began poorly as he was broken in the opening game of the match. Vukic was much stronger with his serves. However, Gunneswaran did have a chance to claw back when he had two break-points in the fourth game, but failed to convert and lost the first set.

The 30-year-old got off to a strong start in the second set and took a 2-0 lead, but the Australian broke back in the third game. Both players then held serve throughout the set, taking it to a tie-breaker where Gunneswaran lost serve four times and lost the match.

With Gunneswaran’s loss, India’s challenge in the men’s singles event comes to an end as Sumit Nagal and Ramkumar Ramanathan had already lost in the first round of the qualifiers.

Ankita Raina is now the only Indian in the competition and would be vying for a place in the women’s singles main draw when she faces Japan’s Kurumi Nara on Thursday. She had earlier beaten Jovana Jovic of Serbia 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in the first round of the qualifiers.

Double joy for Germany against Belgium in FIH Pro Hockey League

0

The men’s and women’s national teams of Germany both registered wins in the second matches of their respective doubleheaders against Belgium in the FIH Hockey Pro League.

In the first match on Wednesday, Germany’s women made it two wins from two against the Red Panthers, with Hannah Gablac, Cecile Pieper, and Rebecca Grote all hitting the target in a 3-1 victory. Ambre Ballenghien put Belgium ahead with a superb penalty corner drag-flick in the 21st minute, before Gablac restored parity three minutes later. Pieper and Grote netted penalty corners in the third and fourth quarters respectively, ensuring that the hosts claimed a second win in two days against the visitors.

With two wins from their opening two matches in the current Pro League season, Germany has moved up to the fifth spot in the standings.

Meanwhile, Germany’s men shook off the disappointment of Tuesday’s 1-6 loss at the hands of Belgium to produce an excellent display in match two, battling to a 1-1 draw before claiming the bonus point by winning the shoot-out.

The hosts took a lead when Florian Fuchs touched home a defense-splitting pass from team captain Tobias Hauke in the 24th minute, before Belgium finally pulled level eleven minutes from the end, thanks to Loick Luypaert’s deflected penalty corner drag-flick.

Belgium were denied goal-scoring opportunities on numerous occasions by goalkeeper Alexander Stadler, who produced a string of fine saves in regular time to earn a crucial point for Germany against the reigning World and European champions.

Stadler was almost single-handedly responsible for Germany’s bonus point, making some wonderful blocks to keep a clean sheet in the shoot-out, with Christopher Ruhr’s concerted effort being enough for a 1-0 win in the one-on-ones.

While Belgium remains well clear at the top of the standings, two points for Germany have seen Die Honamas move off the bottom of the table to the seventh position.

The next Pro League matches will take place in October, with the men and women of the Netherlands and Great Britain taking on each other in Amstelveen (NED).

Two-year extension of GST compensation cess levy likely to cover shortfall in tax collection

0

The GST Council is likely to approve a two-year extension of the compensation cess levy on goods and services to allow the Centre to pay the entire shortfall in GST tax collection by states expected till June 2022.

Sources in the government said that with 21 states expressing their preference for the Borrowing Option-1 proposed by the Centre to meet the GST compensation needs of states this year, the next course of action would extend the period of cess levy beyond five year GST transition period that ends in June 2022.

As the Council is likely to adopt the compensation formula suggested by the Centre in the difficult year of the Covid-19 pandemic, sources said it may also decide how long the compensation cess levy should be extended to clear all dues to states.

“A two-year extension of cess is the most likely outcome of the Council cil meeting scheduled on October 5. However, the council may decide to adopt compensation formula for FY21 in the next meeting and defer a decision on cess extension till a more appropriate study of the issue is done,” sources quoted earlier said.

Under the existing GST Act compensation for the shortfall in GST collection over an agreed formula is payable by the center for the first five years of the operations of the new tax system from July 2017 to June 2022. This is paid through collection made on account of cess levy on certain goods and services.

The term of the cess is co-terminus with compensation liability with the Centre. So, the Council should withdraw cess also after completion of five years. But with COVID presenting different challenge before the governments and has lead to states bleeding over GST collections, the compensation needs of the Centre has grown manifold.

As cess could not cover this high level of compensation needs this year and maybe next year, there is talk of extending the levy of cess beyond June 2022.

As per the Centre’s projection, the total amount expected to be collected from Compensation cess would be to the tune of Rs 65,000 crore in fy21 while total compensation payable to all states and union territories may be to the tune of Rs 3,00,000 crore. So there is a total shortfall of Rs 2,35,000 crore expected this year.

The Centre wants this shortfall to be met through extra borrowings under special dispensation by the states while their dues get settled after June 2022 by extending the compensation cess levy.

Tesla plans cheaper $25,000 electric car within 3 years: Musk

0

Elon Musk has said that Tesla plans to produce an electric car with a price tag of $25,000 within the next three years.

The aim, said Musk on Battery Day on Tuesday, is to make Tesla electric cars more affordable for the masses.

“That will basically be on-par or slightly better than a comparable gasoline car. This has always been our dream to make an affordable electric car,” he said during the virtual presentation.

The cheapest Tesla Model 3 that made its debut in February 2019 currently costs $35,000. it offers a 350-km range, a top speed of 210 km per hour, and acceleration from 0-100 km per hour in 5.6 seconds.

“Tesla says has only been made possible by shifting sales to an online-only platform and by winding down physical outlets,” reports ZDNet.

Tesla is known for the Model Y, Model S, Model X, and Model 3 product lines.

“For a lot of people, they want to buy a Tesla, but they simply don’t have the money. We could make the car infinitely desirable, but if someone does not have the money, they won’t buy it,” Musk said.

The Tesla CEO also announced the development of a new battery cell and a reduction in cell cost per kilowatt-hour.

The main announcement was Tesla’s new larger cylindrical cells. It was claimed the new batteries will provide five times more energy, six times more power, and a 16 percent greater driving range.

“But the technology announced is likely to take years to implement. Tesla’s approach includes integrating the battery so that it forms part of the structure of the vehicle, thereby reducing the effective weight of the battery,” reports the BBC.

Musk also announced that as well as purchasing batteries from Panasonic and LG Chem.

IPL rules: A ban plays havoc with player’s career, says Neeraj Kumar

0

Any player, player support personnel, or match official will be banned for up to three IPL matches and will be fined Rs 5 lakh if that person thrice breaches rules that bar carrying any mobile device, laptop computer, static/landline, or similar telephone capable of making calls in the Players and Match Officials Areas (PMOA) during IPL matches.

This, and other lesser penalties for these types of breaches, will be “immediately binding and non-appealable”, say rules enshrined in the BCCI’s minimum standards for PMOA during IPL matches.

The PMOA is broadly earmarked in and around the players’ dressing rooms and those occupied by match officials – umpires and match referee – at a stadium that is hosting a match. Accreditation cards, carrying the bearer’s photos, are issued to all players, match officials, and even waiters who serve in the PMOA.

For the first time breach of the relevant clauses relating to carrying of mobile/laptop devices, the fine is Rs 1 lakh while for a second breach by the same person the fine will be Rs 3 lakh. The BCCI’s Head of the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) will impose these fines. The present ACU Head is Ajit Singh, a former Rajasthan Director General of Police, who was appointed in March 2018.

“Any decision made by the ACU Head in relation to any of the above, shall be the full, final and complete disposition of the matter, immediately binding and non-appealable,” say the PMOA rules.

Some people point out that since players earn lakhs and crores of rupees while playing in the IPL, so these fines would make a little dent in their pockets. But former BCCI ACU head Neeraj Kumar says more than the monetary fine, the stigma of being banned for breach of rules sticks to players for the rest of their careers.

“These fines were always there but there was never any requirement to enforce these earlier because the breach didn’t happen. But the stain that even a temporary three-match ban leaves on you plays havoc with your career,” Kumar, a former Delhi Commissioner of Police, told IANS.

Kumar also pointed out that for a non-established cricketer staging a comeback to the team after a ban could be more difficult than a seasoned player who is punished for the same offense. He cited the example of three Australian players — Steve Smith, David Warner, and Cameron Bancroft — who was banned for being involved in a ball-tampering episode during the third Test against South Africa at Newlands, Cape Town, in March 2018.

While Cricket Australia, the governing body, banned Smith and Warner for 12 months each from international and domestic cricket, Bancroft, playing only his eighth Test, was handed a nine-month ban. Smith and Warner staged successful comebacks to international cricket and are presently captaining Rajasthan Royals and SunRisers Hyderabad respectively. However, Bancroft has so far not been able to become a permanent fixture in the Australian Test XI after the ban, though he played two Tests against England in August last year.

“If you are a Steve Smith, you may come back after the ban is over. But if you are a lesser player, you will probably never be able to return. The third player [Cameron Bancroft] along with Smith and Warner, suffered the most,” said Kumar, referring to the ban of three IPL matches.

“If there’s a struggling player and he undergoes difficulties, and then he is banned, it is as good as his career getting over. Unless you are a Steve Smith or a David Warner, you would not be able to come back,” he emphasized.

Is the quantum of punishment for this particular breach in IPL enough? “Rs 5 lakh is a very little amount for a top rung player who earns his match fee in crores. This amount wouldn’t make a difference to him. But if somebody is on the fringes and who earns a total of Rs 10 lakh or Rs 20 lakh, it becomes a big amount for him,” said Kumar.

The IPL was mired in controversy in 2013 when allegations of betting and match-fixing emerged, and several players, including S. Sreesanth, were banned for various periods. The issue eventually reached the Supreme Court and the court expanded the scope of the case to include governance reforms in the BCCI. It led to a new BCCI constitution being framed, though a final verdict is yet to come.

Playing video games as child may improve working memory later

0

In good news to video game lovers, researchers have found that playing video games as a child can improve working memory years later.

The study, published in the journal Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, shows how cognitive changes can take place even years after people stop playing.

For the findings, the research team involved 27 people between the ages of 18 and 40 with and without any kind of experience with video gaming.

“People who were avid gamers before adolescence, despite no longer playing, performed better with the working memory tasks,” said study author Marc Palaus from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) in Spain.

The researchers analyzed participants’ cognitive skills, including working memory, at three points: before starting the training in video gaming, at the end of the training, and 15 days later.

The video game used was Nintendo’s Super Mario 64.

The study also included 10 sessions of transcranial magnetic stimulation. This is non-invasive brain stimulation through the skin without the need to get to the brain tissue that temporarily changes the brain’s activity.

“It uses magnetic waves which, when applied to the surface of the skull, are able to produce electrical currents in underlying neural populations and modify their activity,” explained Palaus.

The results show that people without experience of playing video games as a child did not benefit from improvements in processing and inhibiting irrelevant stimuli.

They were slower than those who had played games as children.

“We aimed to achieve lasting changes. Under normal circumstances, the effects of this stimulation can last from milliseconds to tens of minutes,” Palaus said.

We wanted to achieve improved performance of certain brain functions that lasted longer than this,” Palaus added.

“Video games are a perfect recipe for strengthening our cognitive skills, almost without our noticing,” the study authors wrote.

In another first, the team also announced Livinguard as its hygiene partner and associated with Indian innerwear brand Bodycare.

Delhi HC seeks Centre’s response on plea by BPSL ex-chief against IBC proceedings

The Delhi High Court has sought a response from the Centre and others on a petition filed by ex-Chairman of Bhushan Power and Steel Ltd. (BPSL) Sanjay Singal challenging the provisions of personal insolvency proceedings against personal guarantors under the Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code, 2016.

A division bench of the high court presided by Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan issued notice to the Modi government, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India, and the State Bank of India on Singal’s plea which has sought the striking down of Sections 95, 96, 97, 99, 100 and 101 of the IBC, insofar as they apply to personal guarantors of corporate debtors, and the consequent rules.

The bench, however, refused to pass any order of stay with respect to the SBI’s notice to Singal under the impugned provisions.

Notwithstanding the pendency of the corporate insolvency resolution process of Bhushan Power and Steel, the SBI had initiated recovery proceedings before the Debt Recovery Tribunal against Singal in relation to several guarantees.

In the meantime, the Central government notified the provisions on personal insolvency against personal guarantors to corporate debtors and a notice was issued by the SBI to Singal under them.

After hearing the parties, the court listed the matter for further hearing on October 6.
