Users can now convert images into stickers on WhatsApp for iOS

0

Chating app WhatsApp, which is meta gained messaging platform for users to chat, is releasing a new sticker maker tool that will access customers’ change from pics into stickers on iOS.

The help of third-party applications for creating new stickers will delete by the new feature, said, WABetaInfo.

After extracting a subject out of an image, users just need to paste it within a chat to create a custom sticker from an image.

If the feature is available, the platform will instantly turn the image into a sticker that can be added to the user’s collection of stickers.

This tool was available to some users in the past few days, however, now it is rolling out to everyone on iOS 16.

Users now don’t have to switch between different applications or tools to create and use their own stickers.

“This definitely saves time and makes the process of creating and using custom stickers faster,” the report said.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, the messaging platform added some new stickers to its avatar sticker pack for Android and iOS, following its announcement of the ability to create personalised avatars.

0

The official Twitter account of the Trinamool Congress has been hacked, with the picture and logo of the handle changed.

The party’s national spokesman and Rajya Sabha member Derek O’Brien has confirmed the development and claimed that communications are being made with the Twitter authorities to bring the handle back to its original format.

In the hacked handle the name has been changed to “Yuga Labs” and the original party logo has been replaced by a symbolic picture combining the letters “Y” and “L”.

The “blue tick”, however, is still there.

Party sources said that the matter came to the notice of the leaders early Tuesday morning and they doubt that the hacking incident took place on late Monday night.

“The Twitter authorities have contacted and they have assured us of giving back the party’s official Twitter handle the original looks at the earliest,” a party leader said.

However, despite being hacked no derogatory comment slamming the party has been posted through this Twitter handle.

The last tweet posted by the handle at 9.01 p.m. on Monday night, read: “#DidirSurkshaKawach is a mammoth effort at securing basic sustenance for every resident in Bengal, irrespective of age, gender, caste or religion, to achieve state-wide inclusive- growth & expand welfare cover, Didir Doots is generating awareness across households.”

Party sources said that besides informing the Twitter authorities about the development, the leadership might also file an official complaint with the cybercrime division of the Kolkata Police.

Ukraine to fulfill EU’s additional requirements for membership talks: Official

0

Ukraine stands ready to fulfill additional European Commission’s requirements to start the membership talks by the end of the year, a senior official said.

Olha Stefanishyna, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, said that Ukraine has already completed the necessary work on seven recommendations needed for closer integration with the European Union, Xinhua news agency reported, citing Ukrinform news agency.

In particular, Ukraine made progress in fighting corruption and reforming the mass media, Stefanishyna said.

“Now we are waiting for the assessment of the European Commission and its further recommendations,” she said.

In June 2022, EU leaders accepted Ukraine as a candidate for membership in the bloc.

The European Commission put forward seven requirements to be fulfilled by Ukraine for starting the accession talks.

UK, EU reach new post-Brexit deal for N. Ireland

0

The UK and the European Union (EU) have concluded a new post-Brexit trade arrangement for Northern Ireland.

The agreement – dubbed the ‘Windsor Framework’ – struck the UK, and the EU reach a new post-Brexit deal for N. Irelandver the Northern Ireland Protocol, aiming to ease the trading issues created by the Protocol.

After months of negotiations, the deal was announced by UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen after their meeting in Windsor near London on Monday, Xinhua news agency reported.

“I’m pleased to report that we have now made a decisive breakthrough,” Sunak said at a joint press conference with von der Leyen. “Together, we have changed the original Protocol and are today announcing the new Windsor Framework.”

He said the agreement delivers the smooth flow of trade within the UK, as goods destined for Northern Ireland will travel through a new Green Lane, with a separate Red Lane for goods at risk of moving on into the EU.

In the Green Lane, burdensome customs bureaucracy will be scrapped, meaning food retailers such as supermarkets and restaurants as well as wholesalers will no longer need hundreds of certificates for every lorry, Sunak told reporters.

“This means we have removed any sense of a border in the Irish Sea,” he said.

The two sides have also amended the legal text of the Protocol to ensure the country can make critical value-added tax and excise changes for the whole of the UK, “for example on alcohol duty, meaning our reforms to cut the cost of a pint in the pub will now apply in Northern Ireland.”

With a settlement on medicines, moreover, drugs approved for use by the UK’s medicine regulator will be automatically available in every pharmacy and hospital in Northern Ireland.

A new so-called “Stormont Brake” was also introduced. It will allow the elected Northern Ireland Assembly to stop EU goods laws that would have “significant and lasting effects on everyday lives.” When pulled, “the UK government will have a veto,” the Prime Minister said.

“This gives Northern Ireland a powerful safeguard,” he said.

Many had called for Stormont, or the Northern Ireland Assembly, to have a say over these laws, he noted. “But the Stormont Brake goes further and means that Stormont can in fact stop them from applying in Northern Ireland.”

Sunak called the Windsor Framework a “turning point” for the people of Northern Ireland, saying it fixes the practical problems they face and preserves the balance of the Belfast Good Friday Agreement.

Noting that this year will mark the 25th anniversary of the Belfast Agreement, von der Leyen said the new Windsor Framework is here to benefit people in Northern Ireland and support all communities celebrating peace on the island of Ireland.

“We were both genuinely committed to finding a practical solution for people and for all communities in Northern Ireland,” the EU chief said. “This new Framework will allow us to begin a new chapter.”

Signed in 1998 following three decades of conflict, the landmark Belfast Agreement established a power-sharing system of government, including an Executive and Assembly. It underpins Northern Ireland’s peace, constitutional settlement, and institutions.

A lengthy dispute over the Northern Ireland Protocol has recently posed a threat. Under the protocol, Northern Ireland was part of the British customs territory but subject to the EU’s customs code, value-added tax rules, and single market rules for goods.

However, a de facto Irish Sea border was thus created between the British mainland and Northern Ireland, meaning goods transported to and from Northern Ireland were subject to border controls.

Northern Ireland’s pro-Brexit Democratic Unionist Party has demanded the removal or replacement of the protocol as a precondition for it to sit in the assembly and form a devolved government.

0

In the team of the tournament post the conclusion of the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa, wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh is the lone Indian player to make the cut.

Unsurprisingly four players from champion Australia side have made it to the playing eleven, with runners-up South Africa boasting a trio, followed by England and West Indies have two players and one representative. Ireland also has a representative but as the 12th player.

Richa came into the tournament on the back of a victorious Indian campaign ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup last month in South Africa. She was not out in the first three matches and amassed 136 runs at an average of 68 and a strike rate of 130.76.

Her best score in the tournament came against England with an unbeaten 47, though India lost by 11 runs. Richa led the tournament in dismissals with seven successful chances, including five catches, and two stumpings, proving to be a pivotal player as India reached the semi-finals.

Australia all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner, also the Player of the Tournament, is joined by Alyssa Healy, Darcie Brown, and Megan Schutt while England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt has been selected as captain of the team of the tournament.

Ashleigh is selected after making 110 runs and taking 10 wickets across the tournament, to sit joint-second in the table. The off-spinner posted the best figures of the tournament, and of any Australian in T20Is, as she took five for 12 in Australia’s opener against New Zealand.

Alyssa, the wicketkeeper-batter, struck 189 runs during Australia’s victorious campaign, at an average of 47.25, and hit two fifties against New Zealand and Sri Lanka respectively. She also took one catch and three stumpings across the tournament.

Darcie took seven wickets across the tournament, ending with an economy of just five as she bowled a tournament-high 78 dot balls. Her more senior partner Megan was not to be outdone, taking 10 wickets at an average of 12.50, taking four for 24 against Sri Lanka.

Nat, the England vice-captain, is named captain of the side after winning player of the match three times having made 216 runs, the second-highest in the tournament. The all-rounder crunched a tournament-high 28 fours and ended with an average of 72.00, the best in the competition, also taking one wicket.

Her teammate, left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone, also makes the cut. She was the highest wicket-taker of the competition, claiming 11 scalps. She took at least one wicket in every game, her best figures coming against Ireland where she took three for 13.

From South Africa, Tazmin Brits, Laura Wolvaardt, and Shabnim Ismail are included. Tazmin smashed back-to-back fifties to guide South Africa to the final, making 186 runs across the tournament. She was named Player of the Match in the semi-final as she hit 68 runs from 55 balls before taking four catches in a star performance.

Laura is in at number three having made the most runs in the tournament with 230, including 61 in the final. She scored 22 fours and a tournament-high five sixes as she passed fifty-three times during the World Cup.

Shabnim, the fiery pacer, took eight wickets for the Proteas. She delivered the fastest ball in the tournament during the semi-final, also bowling three maidens, with no other bowler producing more than one.

The only representative from the West Indies, Karishma Ramharack has been selected for her impressive average of just 10.00. The off-spinner took five wickets across three games with her best performance of two for 14 against India in their tournament opener.

Young Ireland star Orla Prendergast has been selected as the 12th player after a breakout World Cup for Ireland, making 109 runs including 61 against the West Indies. With the ball, she also took three wickets and looked impressive on the field as she put in a true all-around performance.

Team of the Tournament for ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023: Tazmin Brits (South Africa), Alyssa Healy (wk), Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa), Nat Sciver-Brunt (c) (England), Ashleigh Gardner (Australia), Richa Ghosh (India), Sophie Ecclestone (England), Karishma Ramharack, Shabnim Ismail (South Africa), Darcie Brown (Australia), Megan Schutt (Australia) and Orla Prendergast (Ireland, 12th player)

Fraudsters hit LinkedIn with recruitment scam wave amid tech layoffs

0

Professional networking major LinkedIn has been hit by several state-of-the-art recruitment scams after massive tech layoffs, and fraudsters are cheating those sacked by offering them jobs that do not exist.

According to the Financial Times, phony recruitments are being run by scammers pretending to be employers on Microsoft-owned LinkedIn.

“There’s certainly an increase in the sophistication of the attacks and the cleverness,” Oscar Rodriguez, LinkedIn’s vice president of product management, was quoted as saying in the report.

The platform has sought to block tens of millions of fake accounts in recent months, as regulators warn of a spike in job-related frauds.

Cyber security company Zscaler recently described a scam that targeted job aspirants, where fraudsters approached people through LinkedIn’s direct messaging feature InMail.

“They also created Skype profiles with the picture of the real recruiter from the companies to conduct interviews as well,” Deepen Desai, vice-president of security research at Zscaler, was quoted as saying.

Fraudsters are now using artificial intelligence (AI) to create profile photos that can fool human eyes very easily.

The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently said there were more than 92,000 job-related and business scams in 2022, with $367.4 million reported stolen.

“We see websites being set up, we see phone numbers with a seemingly professional operator picking up the phone and answering on the company’s behalf. We see a move to more sophisticated deception,” Rodriguez was quoted as saying.

Thousands of tech employees have lost their jobs at Big Tech and other companies in the global macroeconomic conditions.

Qualifiers go first as WTT Star Contender Goa gets all set to start

0

Three rounds of qualifying spread over two days will begin official proceedings of the first ever Stupa Sports Analytics hosted USD 2,50,000 World Table Tennis (WTT) Star Contender at Panjim’s Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium from Monday.

In what will be a huge opportunity for the next generation of Indian Table Tennis, 15 Indian paddlers led by senior pro-Harmeet Desai in men’s singles and 13, led by world number 84 Archana Kamath in the women’s singles, will look to grab one of the eight qualifying spots in each draw.

As many as 17 Indian pairs across formats, will also look to book one of the four qualifying spots available in the men’s, women’s and mixed doubles respectively. The main draw begins on March 1 with four of the five finals slated for March 5.

Leading the lines for India in the men’s singles qualifiers will be the spectacled 22-year-old Manush Shah, who is currently ranked number 109 in the world. Manish began the year with a bang, winning the UTT National Ranking Championships in Vadodara in January. He also won the Ecuador Open International title back in 2021.

Speaking ahead of the event, Manush said, “I am playing the men’s singles and also the men’s doubles and the mixed doubles. So yes, I am looking to qualify for stage two and go as far as possible in the tournament. We are really grateful that a Star Contender event is happening in India and we are all really looking forward to it.”
Also looking forward to the tournament is 16-year-old Pritha Vartikar, ranked 467 in the world and playing in her first WTT senior event.

According to her, “I am very excited to play this tournament, and see good players in action. It will be a really good experience for the youth. I am looking forward to playing and want to make it to the main draw.”

Another 22-year-old from Gujarat is Manav Thakkar, the world number 127, who will also be in the fray in the qualifiers. Having had some success in the WTT Contender events with Harmeet Desai, Manav is grateful that a Star Contender level tournament is being hosted in India. He also shared his views a day before the qualifiers saying, “I have been preparing in Chennai for the last two weeks. They have gone very well. We are all pumped up and it looks like I am in good shape. I think it’s a very good opportunity for me and other youngsters as we can learn from the top players by seeing them live in action. I am sure I will be watching them, how they practice and how they prepare for the matches, or how much time they are taking for recovery, or what they do post-match, or what happens if they win or lose. These are the very small things that we cannot see when we are watching online or on YouTube. So, I think these are the things which a youngster should observe and learn from.”

The likes of Manush, Pritha, and Manav will be up against some tough opponents in the qualifiers, besides their own teammates like senior pros Harmeet Desai and Sanil Shetty among men and Archana Kamath, Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee among the women.

In the men’s draw for example, world number 73 Mizuki Oikawa of Japan and world number 95, Kang Dongsoo of Korea, are experienced campaigners besides the young and exciting 16-year-old Felix Lebrun of France, who gave Chinese legend Ma Long a fight last year in Budapest. Among the women, besides world number 72 Adina Diaconu of Romania and world number 85, Zhu Chengzhu of Hong Kong, China, another exciting French teenager this time of Indian descent, Prithika Pavade, will be tough nuts to crack.

A total of 200 players from 30 countries will be participating in the WTT Star Contender Goa 2023, which will include at least five top-20 players in both the men’s and women’s singles main draws.

La Liga: Barca waste chance to move 10 clear as none of top four win in Spain

0

FC Barcelona wasted a chance to move 10 points clear at the top of La Liga when they lost 1-0 away to Almeria.

El Bilal Toure’s 23rd-minute shot, which went in off the underside of the bar, led to the only goal of the game as the forward found space between the Barcelona defenders, reports Xinhua news agency.

What followed was an exercise in frustration for Barca who tried, but failed to create clear chances against a rival that had lost three consecutive matches and started the game in the relegation zone.

Xavi Hernandez commented post-match that it was his side’s worst display of the season.

The result ends a dreadful week for Barca, who were knocked out of the Europa League on Thursday night as they wasted the chance to take an almost definitive grip on La Liga after a 1-1 draw between second-placed Real and Atletico Madrid in Saturday’s Madrid derby.

A dull Madrid derby came to life in the 64th minute when Atletico’s Angel Correa was sent off for elbowing Real Madrid defender, Antonio Rudiger in the chest, although Rudiger did go down very easily.

Atletico took the lead with a man less than 12 minutes from time when Jose Gimenez headed home following a free kick.

Real Madrid salvaged a point five minutes from time when 18-year-old forward, Alvaro Rodriguez equalized from Luka Modric’s corner.

Real Sociedad slipped to a rare away defeat in Valencia, who took three vital points when Real Sociedad defender, Igor Zubeldia slid a cross into his own net.

Celta Vigo’s impressive young midfielder, Gabri Veiga scored twice as his side won 3-0 at home to Valladolid.

Haris Seferovic had opened the scoring for Celta in the 16th minute thanks to an assist from Veiga, who could be close to earning a first international cap in March.

Osasuna ended Sevilla’s recent recovery with a 3-2 win in the Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

David Garcia put the visitors ahead in the 17th minute and although Nemanja Gudelj equalized in the 62nd minute, an own goal from Fernando put Osasuna back in front five minutes later.

Youssef En-Nesyri made it 2-2 in the 77th minute, but Ez Abde won the game for Osasuna with an angled shot in the 83rd minute.

Cadiz continued their solid home form with a 1-0 win at home to Rayo Vallecano, thanks to Sergi Guardiola’s 73rd-minute goal against his former club.

Rayo’s afternoon was made worse with an injury to the key midfielder, Santi Comesana, and a late red card for Alejandro Catena.

Athletic Club Bilbao was unable to capitalize on Rayo’s slip-up after a disastrous 3-2 defeat at home to Girona which saw the home side lose three players (Unai Simon, Yeray Alvarez, and Jon Morcillo) through injury and score two own goals through Oscar de Marcos and Mikel Vesga.

Aleix Garcia scored a brilliant opening goal for Girona before Oscar de Marcos deflected into his own net following a corner, Yuri Berchiche pulled a goal back for Athletic with a shot from outside of the area, but Vesga’s own goal on the stroke of halftime made it 3-1 before Raul Garcia gave Athletic hope with a late goal.

Espanyol won 2-1 at home to Mallorca thanks to two goals from Martin Braithwaite, who scored either side of Vedat Muriqi’s 40th-minute equalizer.

There was drama at Elche on Friday night when Betis came back from 2-0 down in a match that saw the visitors given three penalties, while Elche had three players sent off.

Norrie beats Alcaraz to clinch Rio Open title

0

Fith ATP title has been owned by Cameron Norrie over top play Carlos Alcaraz 5-7,6-4, 7-5 in the final game of the Rio Open.

The British player had some uncomfortable way in the game at starting time and He was down to five double fails on the outside game clay of the Jockey Club Brasileiro, the Media firm showed.

The player had Held key points to win the games even after he used a stringless trick from the  Spanish world No. 2 and finally win the game in two hours and 41 minutes.

“It’s so special to win this one, especially because I’d lost a couple of finals already this year and I had to do it the tough way,” said Norrie, whose last title came at the Lyon Open last May.

“A set and a breakdown and 0-30 on my serve, I was looking done there and I managed to flick a switch and turn it around, so it was a good day.”

Alcaraz, who beat Norrie in the Argentina Open final last weekend, looked troubled by an unspecified injury.

“I did not seize my opportunities as I did in Buenos Aires,” said the reigning US Open champion, whose appearance in Argentina followed a three-month layoff because of an abdominal injury.

“I couldn’t finish the match at my best physical level. I’ve played each of the latest 15 days without stopping. And in tough matches like this one, you can feel some pain. To avoid something worse I wrapped my leg to protect it. But when you feel an injury you had a few months before, it is complicated.”

Part of the ATP 500 circuit, the Rio Open this year carried prize money of more than two million US dollars.

Bundesliga: Bayern recapture top spot with win over Union

0

Ruthless Bayern Munich remains atop the standings after three first-half goals from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Kingsley Coman and Jamal Musiala ended Union Berlin’s winning run following a 3-0 victory at the closing of the 22nd round Bundesliga.

The Bavarians took the reins from the kick-off knowing that only a victory would take them back atop the standings, reports Xinhua news agency.

Thomas Muller should have put the hosts ahead with just six minutes gone but the Germany veteran couldn’t finish the job despite Alphonso Davies’s good build-up work.

The visitors from the capital needed some time to gain a foothold into the game but didn’t pose a lot of danger as Aissa Laidouni’s effort wasn’t a challenge for Bayern goalkeeper Yann Sommer in the 15th minute.

Bayern kept Union’s defense busy and opened the scoring as Frederik Ronnow had to deny Muller from close range before Coman’s perfect cross to the back post allowed Choupo-Moting to nod home the opener in the 31st minute.

Union had the chance to level the scores six minutes later but for all that Laidouni pulled over the target from 11 meters.

Clinical Bayern made it two with 40 minutes played when Ronnow’s goal kick came back via Muller and Coman, who raced down the right wing and rounded Ronnow before tapping home into the empty goal.

Things went from bad to worse for Union in the dying seconds of the first half as Muller chipped the ball to the near post where Musiala poked home to lead 3-0.

Bayern kept its clean sheet as Union lacked in penetration and came only close once after Sheraldo Becker missed the target narrowly wide at the hour mark.

With the victory, Bayern is now equal in points with Dortmund but atop the standings due to a better goal difference.

“We saw a gap in classes today and we must recognize that. It is a deserved victory for Bayern. The second and third goals before the break annoy me. If you invite Bayern like that they will score,” said Union coach Urs Fischer.

“This was an important win for us. I like how we played and how we won today. Usually, it’s hard to create chances against Union but today we were able to produce several,” said Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann.

Elsewhere, Bayer Leverkusen held Freiburg to a 1-1 stalemate as Sardar Azmoun canceled out Vincenzo Grifo’s opener.

Twitter lays off product manager who led Blue subscription project

0

Following another round of layoffs, Twitter product manager Esther Crawford is no longer employed by the company.

Crawford led various projects at Twitter, including the company’s Blue with verification subscription and its forthcoming payments platform.

More than 50 employees were impacted by the layoffs, which were spread across several departments. Martijn de Kuijper, the creator of the now-shuttered Revue newsletter platform that Twitter acquired in 2021, was also among them, reports The Verge, citing sources.

With this recent cut, Twitter CEO Elon Musk has done at least four rounds of layoffs.

This is happening despite his promise not to sack more employees after his brutal layoff exercise in November last year that affected two-thirds of the micro-blogging platform’s 7,500 employees.

On Sunday, it was reported that the Twitter CEO was laying off more Twitter employees, and affected employees received notices via email on Saturday. The recent cut targeted a number of departments, including ads and infrastructure engineering.

Now, the company likely has less than 2,000 employees, which was about 7,500 when Musk took over.

Earlier this month, Musk had laid off dozens of workers across sales and engineering departments, including one of Musk’s direct reporting executives, who was managing engineering for Twitter’s ads business.

The company also shut down two of its three India offices and directed its employees to work from home, as part of the Twitter CEO’s mission to cut costs and turn the struggling social media service profitable.

Twitter closed its offices in New Delhi and its financial hub in Mumbai. In November last year, Musk fired more than 90 percent of its staff in India, around 200-plus.

Maignan, Ibra return, Milan conquer Atalanta in Serie A

AC Milan registered their fourth consecutive win on all fronts as they cruised past Atalanta 2-0 in Serie A, with Mike Maignan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic back into action.

AC Milan entered San Siro with Maignan standing between the sticks, as the French goalkeeper hadn’t featured for the Rossoneri since last October and missed the World Cup due to a recurring calf injury, reports Xinhua news agency.

The home side broke the deadlock in the 25th minute with a stroke of luck as Theo Hernandez’s volley out of the box hit the upright, but it struck off goalie Juan Musso’s back and ricocheted into the net.

The Serie A defending champion dominated the game by creating a couple of chances and threw on Ibrahimovic in the 74th minute, it was the Swedish first appearance since last May after knee surgery.

The Diavoli sealed the win before the whistle as Rafael Leao’s pass threaded through for Junior Messias who looped it over an on-rushing Musso.

With the win, AC Milan caught Inter Milan in second place with 47 points, as the Nerazzurri were stunned by Bologna 1-0 on a waterlogged pitch.

Salernitana ended their losing streak by humiliating Monza 3-0, and Udinese shared the spoils with Spezia at 2-2.

Australian govt to overhaul cyber laws

The Australian government on Monday announced an overhaul of its cyber security strategy following a string of major data breaches.

Clare O’Neil, the Minister for Home Affairs, revealed the renewed strategy, saying the 2022 Optus and Medibank hacks exposed flaws in cyber laws, reports Xinhua news agency.

A new national coordinator for cyber security will be appointed by the government within the Department of Home Affairs to lead the implementation of the strategy, with the government given more powers to intervene following breaches.

Telecommunications giant Optus revealed in September last year that the data of up to 9.8 million customers could have been compromised in one of the largest data breaches in Australian history.

A month later, health insurance provider Medibank disclosed that hackers had accessed the personal information of 9.7 million current and former customers.

In the wake of the incidents the Labor government, which came to power in May 2022, expressed frustration at the lack of an emergency response function.

O’Neil said on Monday that having the national coordinator in place at the time would have made a significant difference.

“What we will have now is an individual in the public service who is going to coordinate the response across government and make sure that not only are we deterring and preventing cyber-attacks, but Australians can get up off that quickly,” she told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

“The other really important part of this person’s job will be to help manage cyber incidents in a proper, seamless strategic way across the Australian government.”

The government hopes to appoint someone to the new role within a month to develop a response plan.
