Akshay Kumar on scale of action in ‘Prithviraj’: ‘I was like a kid in a candy store’

0

Mumbai, May 18 Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, who is gearing up for the release of his film ‘Prithviraj’, was bowled over by the script of the film, particularly the action sequences.

The actor, who will portray king Prithviraj Chauhan in the film, admitted that he felt like “a kid in a candy store” when he got to know the scale of action that he will get to perform in ‘Prithviraj’.

Talking about the scale of the film, which happens to be YRF’s first historical film, Akshay said in a statement, “‘Prithviraj’ is mounted at a scale that will wow people, and action plays an integral part in heightening the entertainment quotient of the film. ‘Prithviraj’ is a big-screen action extravaganza that awaits to unfold in front of the eyes of the audiences.”

“It will give numerous highs given how Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan took on the responsibility of protecting the country and its people from the merciless invader Mohammad of Ghor. I was like a kid in a candy store when I realized the scale of action that I will get to perform”, he added.

Akshay is known to be an action junkie and the original action star of Hindi cinema as he has performed many daredevil stunts on his own, in the past. Commenting on the same, he mentioned, “I have always loved action films, and doing the action in my own projects gives me a high. So, for me, the film presented me with an opportunity to explore something I love.”

Speaking about the experience of pulling off the war sequences, he said, “It was really tough to pull off these elaborate war sequences, wearing heavy armor in the sweltering heat but I knew that these scenes will look spectacular on the big screen and add to the extravaganza ‘Prithviraj’ is a film that’s high on patriotism, given the valor and sacrifice of the mighty king.”

“It needed to be presented in a way that will make people gasp with excitement and I think we have achieved it. I’m proud of how ‘Prithviraj’ has shaped up and hopefully it will entertain people thoroughly (sic)”, the actor concluded.

‘Prithviraj’, directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, also stars Manushi Chhillar. The film is set to release on June 3 in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

IPL 2022: SRH’s Rahul Tripathi not far from India call-up, says Shastri

0

Mumbai, May 18 After Rahul Tripathi scored a stroke-filled 76, which laid the foundation for Sunrisers Hyderabad to score a mammoth 193/6 against Mumbai Indians and win by three runs to keep their slender hopes of making IPL 2022 playoffs alive, former India head coach Ravi Shastri claimed that the Maharashtra batter is not far from a call-up to the national team.

Tripathi’s wonderful knock of 76 came off just 44 balls, laced with nine boundaries and three sixes at a healthy strike rate of 172.73.

“He’s not far at all. If someone doesn’t get up from the bench or gets up from the wrong side of the bed and gets injured, this guy can be slotted in straight away. He can go at No. 3 or 4, he’s a dangerous player, and should be in the mix. If he’s performing season after season, I’m sure the selectors will be watching that very, very closely and giving him his due,” said Shastri on T20 Time: An out show on ESPNCricinfo.

In this season of IPL 2022, Tripathi has owned the number three spot in Hyderabad’s line-up, amassing 393 runs at an average of 39.30 and strike rate of 161.72, including three half-centuries.

Shastri further heaped praise on Tripathi’s fearless all-around game and not being intimidated by the opposition’s bowling attack.

“It’s not that one swallow that makes summer, he’s been around for a bit and what I like about his game is his fearlessness, and he’s got a tag of being a known quantity and someone the opposition wants to get out quickly. Irrespective of that, he comes out and plays his game and his shot-making ability, the all-around game that he has, he’s not overawed by any opposition or by any bowler, which is great to see.

“Tripathi is a very, very confident player. What I liked best was his shot selection, the positions he got in, the anticipation, the reading of the bowler and the lengths he is going to bowl, and then getting into positions to attack a part of the field he wanted to. He gave himself in those positions a couple of options. If the ball was up, he had a couple of shots ready once he got into that position; if the bowler altered, he had plan B in place as well. So extremely impressive and terrific innings.”

Against Mumbai on Tuesday, Tripathi came out at No. 3 after Abhishek Sharma fell in the ninth over and hit the ground running with his usage of conventional as well as reverse sweeps and dispatching pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for three boundaries in an enthralling show of batsmanship at the Wankhede Stadium. Shastri went on to explain what makes Tripathi tick at three.

“The thing with Tripathi season after season is whether he has a great or good season, or not a great season by his standards, while he’s at the crease the scoreboard is ticking and he’s scoring at a great rate, which is tremendous at No. 3 because he sets it up beautifully. If a wicket goes early, he’s ready to counterattack.”

“When you get a good start, he’s there to build on that. He doesn’t go behind the eight ball, rotates the strike well, has the big shots up his sleeve and he has a tremendous all-around game. This guy comes with no baggage. He’ll come out and play his shots. The time he spends at the crease, he’ll be a valuable addition to the (India) side.”

IPL 2022: Williamson flies back home for birth of his second child; to miss SRH’s last league game

0

Mumbai, May 18 Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Wednesday announced that their skipper Kane Williamson will be flying back to his home in Tauranga, New Zealand for the birth of his second child. It means that Williamson may not feature in Hyderabad’s last league match of IPL 2022 against Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.

Williamson flying back home comes after Hyderabad has just about kept their playoff hopes alive with a narrow three-run win over Mumbai Indians on Tuesday, though a lot will depend on the outcome of other matches.

“Our skipper Kane Williamson is flying back to New Zealand, to usher in the latest addition to his family. Here’s everyone at the #Riser camp wishing Kane Williamson and his wife a safe delivery and a lot of happiness!” said an official update by the franchise through their Twitter account.

In December 2020, Williamson and his partner Sarah Raheem welcomed a baby girl, with the New Zealand captain taking paternity leave, thereby missing the second Test against the West Indies.

“Overjoyed to welcome a beautiful baby girl into our family,” Williamson had posted with a picture of his newborn daughter on his official Instagram handle.

So far in IPL 2022, Williamson has featured in 13 matches after being retained by the franchise in the run-up to the Mega Auction. But the New Zealander, playing competitive cricket after recovering from a troublesome elbow injury, has been unable to set the scoring charts alight, making just 216 runs at an average of 19.64 and strike rate of 93.50.

Hyderabad is currently in eighth place in the points table, with 12 points from 13 matches.

Nawazuddin is in Cannes as part of the Indian government delegation to the festival and the rights market, where India has been named the first country of honor.

“The narration had me excited for multiple reasons. For starters, the opportunity to work in a Christmas movie is something very different and immediately had my attention. The director, Roberto Girault has shown his power and command over the camera, and the way he can unveil new sides to an actor. It is a welcome challenge that I often yearn for. And most importantly, the name, Laxman Lopez, had me instantly curious.”

“I am very excited about this collaboration. This script is close to my heart and the transition of the story and the challenges that the lead character faces are sure to have everyone intrigued,” said Girault.

“When first read the script, I started my search to find the perfect Laxman Lopez and my mind immediately navigated to Nawazuddin. I have seen a few of his works and know that this role will bring out a lesser-known vulnerable side to him. It is a project that is sure to leave people with a smile on their face, and a lot of hunger in their tummy!”

Injured KKR opener Ajinkya Rahane ruled out of remainder of IPL 2022

0

Mumbai, May 17 Kolkata Knight Riders opener Ajinkya Rahane has been ruled out for the remainder of the IPL 2022 due to a hamstring injury, the franchise confirmed on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old picked up the injury during Knight Riders’ previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He had one of his brighter starts in the game against Sunrisers, scoring 28 in 24 balls with three sixes, but looked in discomfort while taking singles.

Rahane was seen clutching his hamstring and the team physio also went out to tend to him at the end of the powerplay overs. He continued to hobble, though, before being dismissed in the eighth over by Umran Malik.

“Ajinkya Rahane is going to miss the remaining games of #IPL2022 due to a hamstring injury. Wish you a speedy recovery, @ajinkyarahane88. The Knights camp will miss you,” KKR wrote on Twitter along with the video, where coach Brendon McCullum can be seen informing the team that the veteran batsman has torn his tendon.

Before leaving the camp, Rahane said that he enjoyed his time at KKR and wished his teammates all the best for the upcoming games.

“Guys, I really enjoyed my time on and off the field with everyone. Learned a lot as a cricketer, about life, and about everything. Just want to thank all the players, the support staff, Venky sir, and management people for all your help and support. I’ll definitely come back stronger next year. I’m sure we will do well in the next games and hopefully, we will go to Kolkata and the playoffs,” the KKR opener said.

The stylish batter finished the IPL 2022 season with 133 runs from seven innings at an average of 19.00 and a strike rate of 103.90. His best innings came in KKR’s first game, the tournament-opener against Chennai Super Kings when he scored 44 in 34 balls in a six-wicket win for his team.

In Rahane’s absence, Knight Riders have options in Aaron Finch, B Indrajith, Sam Billings, and Sunil Narine, all of whom opened during the period Rahane was dropped, to partner Venkatesh at the top.

Knight Riders’ next game, their last in the IPL 2022 league stage, will be against Lucknow Super Giants on Wednesday at DY Patil Stadium.

Experts hail PM Modi’s 5G roadmap, thrust on mobile manufacturing

0

New Delhi, May 17 Industry experts on Tuesday welcomed the launch of the self-made 5G testbed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that the transformative power of 5G will provide a significant thrust to the country’s economic growth across industries and sectors.

Prime Minister Modi dedicated an indigenous 5G Test Bed, in the form of 5Gi, to the nation during an event organized by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

“The launch of India’s first 5G Test Bed will spur an ecosystem centered around innovation in next-gen technologies. Start-ups will now be able to test and validate their technological prototypes, products, and solutions locally in a 5G network,” Prabhu Ram, Head-Industry Intelligence Group (IIG), CMR, told IANS.

Modi said that the 5G technology will facilitate governance and make a positive change in ease of doing business in many fields, creating more jobs in many sectors.

According to Tarun Pathak, Research Director, Counterpoint Research, it proves that Indigenisation is possible in an emerging and latest tech like 5G.

“This should give a boost to local talent and further support and strengthen India’s image in emerging technologies which will be built on a strong 5G ecosystem,” Pathak told IANS.

Modi said that the 2G era was full of frustration, corruption, and policy paralysis.

“After that, we came to 3G, 4G and now we are testing the 5G technology, developed by the Communication Ministry, Indian Institute of Technology at Chennai and Delhi,” the Prime Minister said.

Arvind Bali, the CEO, of the Telecom Sector Skill Council, said that for adopting new tech and infrastructure, skilling along with reskilling/upskilling of the workforce will ensure that the human resource requirement is sufficient when 5G services are live.

“We, along with all stakeholders, are already driving training of the workforce in new-age technologies and have developed NSQF-aligned courses with unified credit framework on 5G technology that will be recognized in universities and institutions to meet this huge upcoming demand in trained talent force when the time comes,” said Bali.

Giving a thrust on domestic manufacturing, Modi also said that mobile manufacturing units have increased from just two in 2014 to more than 200 in the country.

Experts said that the next challenge is to drive true local value addition.

“This will be driven by a strong regulatory and policy environment and performance-linked incentive (PLI) scheme. India currently has local value addition of around 15 percent in mobile and we need to more than double the same to generate more push,” said Pathak.

Ram added that mobile manufacturing in India has been an impressive success story of the ‘Make in India’ mission.

“Mobile production in India today caters to not just a growing domestic digital economy, but also to developed markets around the world. With enhanced value addition taking place domestically, India is now slowly becoming an integral part of the global value chains,” Ram told IANS.

Saurabh Prajapati thrilled with response for ‘Dhokebaaz’ track

0

Mumbai, May 17 Choreographer-director Saurabh Prajapati’s latest track ‘Dhokebaaz’ has been doing well. He has choreographed the song and worked with Vivek Oberoi and Tridha Choudhury on it.

The song has already reached 2.9 crore views and counting, and the team is in a celebratory mood.

“‘Dhokebaaz’ getting great response for its audio and video is a humbling feeling. In fact, in both, it has already crossed 2.9 crores in a very short time. I’m happy that people are enjoying the track, many have told us that they listen to this song on loop.”

“‘Dhokebaaz’ is a different kind of song, even the choreography is different too. We have kept much of classical dancing, lavni or Lavani, etc for which one has to be professionally trained. It’s not just any other casual Bollywood number,” he says.

Tridha is getting a lot of appreciation and has been presented really well. Sharing his experience of working with her, he says: “Tridha worked really hard for this one, although she didn’t get enough time for prep. But, she pulled it off well.”

“I worked with her for every single detail when it came to her performance because there was so much storytelling through facial expressions and dance moves in ‘Dhokebaaz’. All in all, it was a great experience working with her. She is a good dancer and grabs things in very less time.”

Saurabh is happy that apart from music lovers, even people in the industry have liked the song and appreciated his work.

“Everyone gave me positive feedback. When I showed this video to my two personal favorites, Remo D’Souza sir and Terence Lewis sir, who are always honest with me when it comes to art no matter what, they both loved it too,” he says.

He concludes: “I want to tell everyone out there thank you from the bottom of my heart. I also want to share that I am working on a new song where a lot of Indian dance forms will be showcased. This is going to be out soon.”
