India penalized for slow-over rate in fourth T20I

0

India has been penalized for keeping a slow over-rate in the fourth T20I at Wellington. Virat Kohli’s team was found to be two overs short of the target even after taking time allowances into consideration.

The match had gone down right to the wire, with the visitors emerging winners in yet another Super Over finish. Defending 165, India turned things around right at the very end as New Zealand bungled the chase under pressure.

On-field umpires Chris Brown and Shaun Haig, and third umpire Ashley Mehrotra leveled the charges, which were ratified by match referee Chris Broad.

Subsequently, the Indian players were fined 40 percent of their match-fees – 20 percent for each over in keeping with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. Captain Virat Kohli accepted the sanction so there was no need for a formal hearing.

Agarwal seized ducks but Priyank Panchal and Gill held something constant in the final session with their unbeaten 68-run stand.

Easwaran got off the line on the fourth ball before Michael Rae had Agarwal taken by Cleaver to India A early. There was a 58-run stand between Easwaran and Panchal but the former fell to Ajaz Patel in the 14th over to give New Zealand a late opening in the day.

In a tricky situation, Gill and Panchal then saw off 143 deliveries to ensure there was no further damage. Panchal completed his half-century off 71 balls with a boundary against Patel as the visitors kept their hopes alive of salvaging a draw.

Brief scores: India A 216 & 127/2 (Priyank Panchal 67*) trail by New Zealand A 562/7 (Dane Cleaver 196, Mark Chapman 114; Ishan Porel 2-90) by 219 runs.

Google’s neural-network-powered chatbot, called Meena

0

Google, with its new chat companion called Meena, wants to change that. As per a report by Venture Beat, Meena is a neural network that has around 2.6 billion parameters. We perform Meena, a multi-turn open-domain chatbot guided end-to-end on data drilled and separated from public domain social media conversations. However, Google hasn’t made it clear when correctly and how can users interact with Meena.

The report further says that Meena is trained on 40 billion words. As per Venture Beat Meena, it uses a “seq2seq model and a variation of the popular Transformer architecture.” Google also talked about the Sensibleness and Specificity Average (SSA), which is a metric created by Google researchers. The SSA helps measure the ability of a conversation agent to maintain responses in any AI-based conversation that is specific and also makes sense. According to Google, humans generally rank around 86% on SSA tests. Meena, in the initial tests he obtained a high of 79%. Of course, this is, Google’s own metric to judge conversational ability based on artificial intelligence.

Interestingly, Microsoft has a social chatbot also, and it’s called XiaoIce, which can converse in Mandarin as too.

Nick Riewoldt, Christian, and Holly Ferling will also play in the game. The event will serve as a curtain-raiser to the BBL final. The Big Bash final as well as the women’s T20I between India and Australia, on an identical day – is part of the cricket’s day of giving named The Big Proposal.

Nick Riewoldt, Dan Christian, and Holly Ferling complete the squad nicely, adding a bit of bowling depth to an extremely talented line-up. Wipro’s CEO Departs After Failing To Stanch Market Share Bleed

0

Wipro Ltd CEO Abidali Z Neemuchwala is moving after a chaotic four years during which growth hampered and the Indian IT services giant fell farther behind competitors Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).

Mr. Neemuchwala will continue at his job till a new CEO is elected, the organization stated in a report. His departure means an even more active role — at least temporarily — for Rishad Premji, Wipro’s hands-on, customer-facing executive chairman and son of outsourcing industry pioneer Azim Premji. It’s the culmination of growing dissatisfaction with Wipro’s inability to close the gap with Infosys and TCS, according to people familiar with the matter, who asked not to be named discussing a sensitive matter.

While the industry veteran presided over a 13% rise in Wipro’s stock over his tenure as of Thursday’s close, that lagged Infosys Ltd.’s 33% and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd.’s 78% rally over the same period.

“A new leadership is required to push digital acceleration, improved execution, automation and stronger large deals for Wipro going ahead,” said Thomas George, president of CyberMedia Research & Service Ltd, citing the company’s single-digit growth.

Wipro, whose clients include Levi Strauss & Co. and Pitney Bowes, slid as much as 2.3% Friday. The company said in its statement that Mr. Neemuchwala was leaving for personal reasons, while the CEO was not immediately available for comment.

Like the rest of India’s IT industry, Wipro has struggled to adapt to a slowdown in growth in recent years and rising scrutiny in the US, its largest market. Customers have applied to industrialization and cloud services, avoiding the extra labor-intensive job that India’s largest IT firms trained in. The increased cost of adapting software and hiring locally in the US — a consequence of tightening visa restrictions — weighed on margins.

Mr. Neemuchwala linked Wipro as a CEO in 2015 from TCS, the industry chief where he used all of his past careers. He took the steerage precisely four years ago to the day. The then CEO prioritized cross-selling assistance to the organization’s top clients while supporting the contracting of local American expertise to change the firm from its bigger competitors. But Infosys and TCS made important investments in recent years on areas of AI to the cloud, while also moving up local operations in the US.

India Beat New Zealand In Super Over, Take 4-0 Lead In Series

0

For a second time in two games – the fourth time in the last 12 months – New Zealand opted for the scenic Super Over route towards claiming a match win when a straight forward victory was in their grasp. There was nothing pretty waiting for them at the end of that one-over eliminator as KL Rahul and Virat Kohli chased down 14 off Tim Southee’s over to put India 4-0 up in the series.

New Zealand had no business taking it there. They had India 88/6 after electing to bat and then allowed them to get to 165 on a good batting track. Then Colin Munro and Tim Seifert scored solid half-centuries, leaving the hosts on the brink of win.

When Shardul Thakur stepped out to bowl the final over, New Zealand needed 7 to win with half-centurion Seifert, Ross Taylor and five other wickets in hand. Taylor went for the glory shot off Ball 1 and holed out to a good catch from Shreyas Iyer. But even from there, when Daryl Mitchell lofted the second delivery over mid-off, the equation had come down to 3 of 4.

Seifert then was run-out while trying to sneak a bye. Mitchell then lofted a knuckleball straight to mid-off. A single off the fifth ball left New Zealand needing two to get from the final delivery. Mitchell Santner could pick up just a single to sweeper cover off the final ball forcing the Super Over.

The same guys as Hamilton. Jasprit Bumrah and Tim Southee. Curiously, Bumrah went for his patented yorker only with his final delivery. He was unlucky with a couple of dropped chances – albeit difficult ones – from Iyer and Rahul, but bowled a couple of loose deliveries that allowed New Zealand to pick up 13.

In response, Rahul and Kohli walked out to bat while Southee, the stand-in captain, backed himself to bowl another Super Over. This one didn’t go any better than his recent ones. The first ball was in the slot, Rahul heaved it beyond mid-wicket. A short ball next up was pulled away for four. India had polished 10 runs off 2 balls. To Southee’s credit, he got Rahul out off the third, forcing Kohli to play it carefully. The Indian captain used his experience to knock a ball to mid-on and drag Samson for a double and finished it a ball later with a cracking pull for four.

Brief Scores: India 165/8 in 20 overs (Manish Pandey 50*, KL Rahul 39; Ish Sodhi 3-26) tied with New Zealand 165/8 in 20 overs (Colin Munro 64, Tim Seifert 57; Shardul Thakur 2-33). India chased down 14 to win the Super Over.

Death toll reaches 54 in Brazil flooding : Authorities

0

The death toll from the severe flooding in southeast Brazil’s Minas Gerais state has reached 54, the authorities have said. Almost half of those deaths occurred in the metro area of state capital Belo Horizonte, which is facing the rainiest month of January in 110 years, said the authorities on Wednesday, Xinhua news agency reported.

On Tuesday night, it rained almost 180 mm in three hours in Belo Horizonte, causing severe damage to dozens of streets even in neighborhoods that had never flooded before. A total of 101 towns in Minas Gerais state declared a state of emergency over the past days, and at least 28,000 people had to leave their homes.

The situation is expected to get worse in the region, as the civil defense service issued a storm warning for the next hours. The weather forecast indicates even more rain and the possibility of hail in Minas Gerais. Minas Gerais has suffered the most in recent storms, while other states in Brazil’s southeastern region also registered deaths and severe damage.

Oppo Smartwatch Teased in Official Photo by VP Brian Shen

0

Oppo has been rumored to be working on a smartwatch for a while now, and the company VP Brian Shen has now shared an official photo, confirming the arrival. The photo shows a smartwatch inspired by the Apple Watch design, and even the watch face shows similarity to that of Apple. In any case, the executive mentions that the smartwatch will sport a flexible display with a curved design. Instead of the digital crown seen on the Apple Watch, the Oppo smartwatch is seen to sport two physical buttons on the side.

Shen took to Weibo to share an official photo of the upcoming smartwatch. He refrains from giving out details regarding the name of the Oppo smartwatch, or the key features it will integrate, but he does note that the smartwatch will sport a flexible display with curved edges. In the official photo, we can see that the Oppo smartwatch will sport metal edges in gold and a cream silicone strap. The two physical buttons can be seen on the sides, and Shen says that it could possibly be the ‘best looking smartwatch to launch this year’. The watch face has a flower design at the back with the time displayed in the center. We can expect more watch faces and more color options when the smartwatch is officially unveiled.

The Oppo smartwatch is tipped to come with ECG support – again similar to that of the Apple Watch. At Inno Day last month, Oppo first announced its plans to launch smartwatches, and confirmed that it should launch it in the first quarter of 2020. To recall, Xiaomi also launched its Mi Watch last year, and the design seemed heavily inspired by the Apple Watch as well. At the time, Oppo’s Shen took a dig at Xiaomi for aping Apple’s design. However, it looks like Oppo is taking a similar route, and is even looking to copy the ECG feature.

Realme X series and Realme 3 Pro, Realme 5 Pro to Get Android 11, CMO Confirms

0

In the latest #AskMadhav episode, Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth said that phones will get at least one major Android update and security patches for two years. Hearing this, users took to Twitter to confirm whether the Realme X and Realme Pro series will get the Android 11 update or not. To this, Realme India CMO Francis Wang confirmed that both the Realme X series and Realme Pro series are entitled to two major Android updates and that they will receive Android 11 as well.

Wang replied to users’ queries on Twitter to clear all the confusion regarding software updates. He confirmed that the Realme X series of phones will get the Android 11 update as well – which means that the Realme X2 Pro, Realme X2, Realme XT, and Realme X phones will receive two major Android updates. Realme XT has already started receiving the Android 10 update, and the Realme X phone is slated to receive the update next month. The Realme X2 and Realme X2 Pro phones will receive the update in March 2020. These phones are now confirmed to receive Android 11 updates as well.

To this confirmation, another user asserted that the Pro series should also get two major Android updates, given that the Realme 2 Pro got two major updates. To this, Wang conceded and said, “Haha. Ok ok. Agree. Confirmed for Pro series.

As for the Android 10 update, the Realme 3 Pro has already started to receive the update, while the Realme 5 Pro is slated to receive it in February. Other phones like the Realme 3 and Realme 3i will receive the update in April, and the Realme 5 and Realme 5s will receive the update in May. The Realme 2 Pro is expected to receive the update in June, while the Realme C2 will receive it sometime in Q3 2020.

To recall, the confusion began because Sheth said in his AskMadhav episode that Realme phones will receive at least one major Android update. Wang notes that this applied to phones like Realme 1, Realme C1 and Realme U1, and not the X series and Pro series of phones.

Poco X2 Live Images Leak, Suggest Similarities With Redmi K30

0

Poco X2 India launch is just a few days away. But ahead of the official launch, the rumor mill has added a few live images suggesting the design of the upcoming Poco phone. The Poco X2 is so far speculated as a tweaked version of the Redmi K30 that Xiaomi launched in China last month. The live images also hint at some of its similarities with the latest Redmi K-series phone. Additionally, the images suggest some hardware specifications and software details of the Poco X2.

A tipster who goes by the pseudonym TechDroider on Twitter has leaked four distinct live images that are claimed to be of the Poco X2. The images show the design of the smartphone that has a hole-punch display with a room for dual selfie cameras. One of the leaked images also highlights a large earpiece that could include a loudspeaker — hints at dual speakers on the new Poco phone. This is unlike the Poco F1 that had just one loudspeaker.

Another image shared by the tipster shows a system setting screen that includes the name of the Poco X2 as well as highlights the presence of MIUI 11.0.2 on the smartphone. The unit appears to have the dated, November 2019 Android security patch, though it could be due to a prototype. We may get a fresh Android security patch on the commercial unit launching next week.

Separately, another tipster on Twitter with handle @andrei_eclynoh has posted another live image that purportedly shows the Poco X2 with a screen showing AnTuTu benchmark. It suggests that the phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G SoC, the processor that’s already powering the 4G variant of the Redmi K30. The screen shared by the tipster also shows the presence of Android 10 on the smartphone.

To recall, the Poco X2 launch in India is scheduled for Tuesday, February 4. The smartphone has been teased on Flipkart and confirmed to feature a 120Hz display. Moreover, it will be the first model by Poco India that has recently been separated by Xiaomi.
