New Zealand A take opening day honours despite Gill-Vihari fifties

0

A strong, collective performance from the New Zealand A bowlers put their side on top on the opening day of the first Unofficial Test vs India A at Hagley Oval, Christchurch. Having won a good toss on a reasonably lively surface, the hosts’ new-ball pair of Jacob Duffy and Michael Rae hit the straps instantly, removing the rock-solid top order of Abhimanyu Easwaran, Mayank Agarwal, and Priyank Panchal rather cheaply with just 34 on the board.

Shubman Gill and Hanuma Vihari then threw a counter-punch through a fourth-wicket partnership of 119 that came off just 141 deliveries. The former was the aggressor, peppering the field with some sublime strokes and also going over the fence a couple of times with strong blows. Vihari was more steady in his approach, blunting the bowlers but he too didn’t shy away from punishing the loose deliveries.

The pair looked set for big scores but the gentle off-spin of Cole McConchie got rid of Vihari and shortly, Gill missed out on a deserving ton as he got dislodged by Rae. The lower middle-order and tail hardly contributed, with the last seven wickets falling for just 63 runs. To sum it up, barring the fourth-wicket partnership, there wasn’t anything much to write home about, as far as India A’s batting effort was concerned.

In reply, New Zealand A started solidly but lost Hamish Rutherford who nicked one behind off Ishan Porel in the 10th over. Will Young and Rachin Ravindra then stitched a 68-run stand to provide a stable platform for the home side. However, the latter fell towards the fag end of the day to Mohammad Siraj. Nightwatchman Ajaz Patel gave Young company, and the duo warded off further threats.

Brief scores: India A 206 (Gill 83, Vihari 51, Rae 4-51) vs New Zealand A 105/2 (Ravindra 47, Young 26*)

Injuries force NZ to name new-look pace attack for India ODIs

0

Following injuries to premium fast bowlers Trent Boult, Matt Henry, and Ferguson, New Zealand have been urged to select new-look fast bowlers for the ODI series against India. While Matt Henry sustained a broken thumb, Boult and Ferguson have been out with a broken arm and a calf strain individually. However, New Zealand is confident of Boult healing in time for the two-Test matches.

Kuggeleijn, Hamish Bennett and Kyle Jamieson have been selected in the vacancy of the lead bowlers with Southee leading the attack. Both these pacemen represented their most recent ODIs almost three years ago in 2017. Legspinner Ish Sodhi will play the first ODI at Seddon Park but will be released in time to play for New Zealand A in the four-day match against India A in Christchurch.

On the batting front, Henry Nicholls will continue to open the innings alongside Martin Guptill with the middle order also receiving a boost following the return of Tom Latham who was out with a broken finger previously. Colin de Grandomme, James Neesham, and Mitchell Santner will continue being the allrounders. This will be New Zealand’s first ODI assignment ever since the World Cup final in July last year.

coach Gary Stead said that Tim Southee has an important job leading our new-look pace attack, which has a huge opportunity against some of the very best batsmen in the world.

he further added that Jimmy and Colin continue as the pace bowling allrounders after strong campaigns in England and they will offer us plenty of firepower and versatility. Henry will remain at the top of the order after impressing in the opportunities he’s had. He’s been in good form opening for Canterbury in the latest rounds of the Ford Trophy with a hundred and a half-century to his name

Squad: Kane Williamson (c), Hamish Bennett, Tom Blundell, Colin de Grandhomme, Martin Guptill, Kyle Jamieson, Scott Kuggeleijn, Tom Latham (wk), Jimmy Neesham, Henry Nicholls, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi (only 1st ODI), Tim Southee, Ross Taylor

Rohit Sharma’s Super Over Heroics Hands India 1st T20I Series Win In NZ

0

New Zealand’s Super Over distress remained as India acquired the third T20I to seal the five-match T20I series. A glorious inning from New Zealand captain Kane Williamson was not enough to guide the home side to victory against India in the third T20I in Hamilton, as the game finished in a draw after both sides batted their 20 overs.

Williamson brought his form into the ruling over, hitting 12 off four deliveries as New Zealand set a target of 18 for India to hit. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul came in to bat for India, and Rohit, who was India’s top scorer in the match, puffed two sixes off the last two deliveries to win a thriller for the visitors.

batting first, India got off to a fantastic start, with Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul setting on an 89-run stand before the latter fell for 27 to de Grandhomme.

New Zealand pacer Hamish Bennett then turned the impulse New Zealand’s way when he removed Rohit Sharma and Shivam Dube in the 11th over.

Rohit, showed his masterclass with 65 off 39 at the time, was looking dangerous and his wicket stymied India’s march.

India captain Virat Kohli and the in-form Shreyas Iyer then started to rebuild for India, putting on a 46-run partnership. But Mitchell Santner ended their stand, getting Iyer stumped. Kohli was out for 38, leaving it to Jadeja and Pandey to see India to a competitive total.

The pair made 18 off the last over to take team India to 179, finishing off on a high.

Chasing 180, Williamson hit eight fours and four sixes in his innings of 95 off 48 deliveries before losing his wicket in the final over with two runs needed off three balls. Shami then bowled superbly to dismiss New Zealand a run off the last ball, exercising the game to the Super Over.

WhatsApp Reported a Dozen Security Vulnerabilities in 2019

0

WhatsApp is determined to have revealed as many as 12 vulnerabilities in 2019, significantly more crucial than the one or two security defects it proclaimed in the past few years. The latest development gets hot on the heels of the claimed hacking of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos’ Smartphone that was purportedly due to a WhatsApp loophole.

The hacking, which was reported last week, raised eyebrows for the instant messaging app that was acquired by Facebook in February 2014. WhatsApp also last year faced a controversy in India when a vulnerability was used to allegedly enable snooping of human rights activists and journalists in the country through Israeli spyware called Pegasus.

According to the records accessible on the US National Vulnerability Database (NVD), WhatsApp published 12 vulnerabilities last year. A whole of seven vulnerabilities of the total count was classed as dangerous.

The list of vulnerabilities disclosed by WhatsApp includes the CVE-2019-3568 bug that was marked critical and discovered within the VoIP (voice-over-Internet-protocol) stack of the app in May last year. It allowed hackers to remotely execute malicious code on smartphones.

Similarly, another critical flaw that was tracked by CVE-2019-11933 is a part of the US database. It was described as a heap buffer overflow bug and impacted WhatsApp for Android prior to version 2.19.291. It could permit intruders to perform malicious code or cause a DoS.

Security issues impacted WhatsApp largely in 2019. Spyware Pegasus was spotted exploiting WhatsApp’s video calling system and allegedly helped governments hack into mobile devices of more than 100 people worldwide, including journalists and human rights workers. India was amongst the essential businesses for the spyware that was rendered by Israeli surveillance organization NSO and was supposedly used in May.

An article by Check Point last month also reported a virus that could have enabled attackers to crash WhatsApp by delivering a malicious group message. The virus was identified in August and had the potential to create a crash loop.

Apple to increase it’s Online Commodity in India

0

Apple will make its awaited online commodity operations in India beginning in the third portion of this year, according to a statement. The Cupertino organization was beginning contemplated to commence selling accessories online in the country in the first quarter. Last year, the central government lifted rules that had strained foreign companies including Apple to cause at least 30 percent of their products regionally. It also conceded single-brand retailers to set up online stores before stabilizing their physical stores. That move prompted Apple to look for its online appearance before opening its brick-and-mortar stores in the nation.

The quarter between July and September is the new tentative deadline for establishing Apple’s online store in India, reports TechCrunch, citing a person familiar with the development. The company is said to be working on logistics of setting up the online store, and CEO Tim Cook would arrive in person to make its announcement.

In addition to the online store, Apple is in plans to open its first official physical store in India that is reported to be situated in Mumbai. It might not be ready by this year, the report notes. An Apple spokesperson declined to comment on the report.

Apple markets its commodities by e-commerce gateways such as Amazon, Flipkart, and Paytm Mall. However, the organization often suffers an impact on its earnings through online businesses in the country as these portals offer Apple products with heavy discounts. The organization also extends its commodities by various third-party offline stores in the country.

In August last year, Apple expressed its interest in initiating its native retail operations in India. the company had mentioned in a statement that Apple appreciates the support and hard work by Prime Minister Modi and his team to make this possible and we look forward to one day embracing consumers to India’s first Apple store. It will take them some time to get their plans started and they might announce more at a future date.

A statement by Bloomberg in late August 2019 proposed that Apple would begin online sales of its devices in India within months. The company led by Tim Cook, however, appears to have delayed the plans.

Cook during the earnings calls on Tuesday highlighted that Apple registered double-digit sales growth in India for iPhone models in the holiday quarter (October-December period). The organization collected a total revenue of $56 billion (roughly Rs. 3,98,600 crores) from its iPhone devices worldwide.

Will Pucovski to lead CA XI against England Lions

0

Young Australian batsman Will Pucovski has been selected to lead the Cricket Australia XI side to face England Lions in three one-dayers in February. The series will consider the Victorian’s coming to competitive cricket after taking a leave in November last season to attend to his mental health.

Will Pucovski, the 21-year-old top-order batsman, was in contention to make a Test appearance versus Pakistan at the start of the summer. However, he retracted himself from the fray during an ‘A’ team game upon the visiting Pakistan side citing mental health issues. Pucovski took two breaks last summer to deal with his mental health while representing Victoria and then during the Canberra Test against Sri Lanka where he was a non-playing member of the squad.

National Selector Trevor Hohns said that It is pleasing to see Will Pucovski back in a national squad. Will has progressed well throughout the summer and recently captained the Victorian second XI in a Twenty20 tournament in Queensland. These three games are an invaluable opportunity for Will to gain more captaincy experience against quality opposition.

Puvovski’s comeback trail has included a stint with Victoria. He has spent the Big Bash League period playing club cricket in Melbourne as well as participating in the T20 carnival with the Victorian second XI. He will now lead a CA XI side that includes, among others, the experienced Cameron Boyce. Jake Lehmann, Alex Ross, and Will Sutherland.

Hohns also stated that several members of the team will be following the CA XI fresh from the BBL, while others will be coming from state-based competitions. The matches against the England Lions provide them all with an opportunity to impress national coaches and selectors as we look to plan for the future. Cameron fully earns his chance after several good years in domestic 50- and 20-over cricket, most recently with the Melbourne Renegades, for whom he took 14 wickets this BBL season.

CA XI squad: Will Pucovski (c), Max Bryant, Caleb Jewell, Jake Lehmann, Alex Ross, Brad Hope, Jaron Morgan, Will Sutherland, Xavier Crone, Blake Edwards, Matthew Kuhnemann, Cameron Boyce, Mitch Perry, Jack Prestwidge

Lasith Embuldeniya, de Silva pull things back for Sri Lanka

0

After a disappointing opening day where runs were leaked at a brisk rate, Sri Lanka bounced back strongly on day two by pocketing the morning session. The Zimbabweans were barely able to combine 54 runs to their overnight score, and were bowled out for 406. The spin duo of Lasith Embuldeniya and Dhananjaya de Silva shared the scalps this morning, to redeem themselves a bit after copping a lot of stick from Zimbabwe’s batsmen yesterday.

It was Embuldeniya who started things off by getting rid of Regis Chakabva with one that spun away sharply to find the edge, with Niroshan Dickwella making no mistake behind the sticks. Tinotenda Mutombodzi then fell, attempting a wild sweep shot to a delivery that was quite full and was trapped LBW. Donald Tiripano tried to use the long handle but couldn’t last long, holing out to long-off against Embuldeniya who wrapped things up by dislodging Victor Nyauchi.

Sri Lanka’s openers then negotiated the brief three-over burst before lunch to end a satisfying morning’s work but they have a solid task at hand. Despite not adding too many to their overnight score, Zimbabwe still has a healthy total on a pitch that has started to show signs of wear and tear already, with the oddball keeping low and plenty of spin also on offer.

Brief scores: Zimbabwe 406 (Williams 107, Raza 72, Embuldeniya 4-182) vs Sri Lanka 6/0

Government brought CAA to correct historical injustice: PM Modi

0

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the government has made the CAA to change historical injustice and to accomplish the BJP’s old commitment to religious minorities residing in adjoining nations. Talking at the Annual Prime Minister’s National Cadet Corps (NCC) Rally 2020, Modi stated the obstacle in Jammu and Kashmir endured since Independence and some families and state parties kept issues in the region alive, as a consequence of which terrorism flourished there.

He said the present government has been trying to solve decades-old problems plaguing the country. Slamming Pakistan, the prime minister said the neighboring country has lost three wars, but continues to wage proxy wars against India. Previous governments, he said, treated the problem as a law and order issue. “But even when out armies would ask for action, they would not go ahead,” he said, slamming the “inaction” of previous governments at the Centre.

He also said that currently, not only J&K, but other parts of the country are also peaceful and the government has managed to address the aspirations of the northeast region which were neglected for decades. Listing out the achievements of the government, the PM referred to the Bodo agreement, Triple Talaq, abrogation of Section 370 in Jammu and Kashmir among them.

Samsung Note 20 Case Schematics Leak Tips Design of Upcoming Flagship

0

A news has surfaced on the Chinese website Weibo, of what is considered to be prime case schematics of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20. Yes, we are talking about the Galaxy Note 20, that too at a time when the South Korean tech giant is gearing up to launch its Galaxy S20 series next month. Before probing into the reports, it should be regarded that this design seems to be a very early stage model, and you never know if we’ll get to see this figure in the ultimate product or not. We can expect the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 to be launched in August, if last year’s Galaxy Note 10 launch is an indication.

According to the post shared on Weibo, the very first thing that we notice is the similar design language the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 would have with the Samsung Galaxy S20 phones, of course, if in case this leaked design does indeed come into fruition. As can be seen in the case schematics, the Galaxy Note 20 will have a rectangular camera module on the rear, resembling the camera module design that’s been leaked on multiple occasions for the upcoming Galaxy S20 phones, and also what we have already seen on the recently launched Galaxy A-series phones, the Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71.

Further examining the leaked schematics of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20, it’s seen that the right side of the frame will be empty, while the left side of the frame will house the volume buttons along with the power button. At the downside of the Smartphone, a USB Type-C port, a down-firing speaker, and a cut for the S Pen.

With that said, the Galaxy Note 20 is still months away from its official release, so there’s still a possibility for a lot of changes to be made in this time frame.

0

In the World Test Championship, South Africa test team were decreased with 6 points and also were sanctioned with 60 percent of their test match fees. In a report, the ICC stated that it has sanctioned South Africa after match referee Andy Pycroft noticed that they were three overs short of the necessary rate throughout the Test. both South Africa and England went into the game with Seam Bowling options, without a single spinner in each side, that could be the reason for the Over rate.

South Africa are now placed seventh spot in a nine-team table with one win and six losses. They earned 30 points for their win in the first Test against England in Cape Town but their result will now be decreased to 24 after becoming the first team in the competition to have points diminished.

Jio Largest Telco in Terms of Revenue, Customer Base: India Ratings

0

Reliance Jio has grown into the largest telecommunication leader by earnings and subscriber base, India Ratings said on Monday.

Reliance Jio Infocomm has remained aggressive in subscriber acquisition and has become the largest player in terms of wireless subscriber market share, broadband subscriber base and revenue, it said.

The increase in Jio’s subscriber base is largely at the cost of Vodafone Idea, whose subscriber market share has declined consistently in the last two years.

Revenue market share of Jio’s also grew to 34.9 percent in 2QFY20, which is the highest in the industry compared to other players, the agency said.

India Ratings also stated that the business is exhibiting indications of recovery.

The average revenue per user (ARPU) published by telecommunication organizations has commenced exhibiting signs of improvement in the last two to three portions. Moreover, the recent tariff hikes by telcos in the range of 25 percent to 35 percent is likely to support the increase in ARPU over the next few quarters. Furthermore, the share of broadband subscribers in the overall subscriber base is on a continuous rise.

The rising share of data subscribers along with growing data traffic and stabilizing data tariffs augurs well for revenue growth in our view, India Ratings said.

It also said that the release of a consultation paper by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in December 2019 to evaluate setting a floor price for telecom tariffs is a decisive movement for the telecommunication enterprise in its sense. Additionally, some insight of ease to the telcos was also rendered by the length of the implementation of zero interconnect mode management regime by a year, the company stated.

TRAI has extended levy of Rs. 0.06/minute till December 2020 from December 2019 earlier. As a consequence, the operative date of implementation of the administration has been delayed to January 1, 2021.

Indian Ratings has downgraded VIL’s long-term issuer rating to ‘IND BBB-‘ from ‘IND BBB’ while maintaining it on rating watch negative. The downgrade speculates the crystallization of modified total earnings-related contracts for VIL post the Supreme Court’s unfavorable ruling on January 16, removing the revision petition registered by telcos. The SC ruling provides clarity on the liabilities that are payable by VIL to the Department of Telecom, which was earlier contingent upon the outcome of the review petition, the agency said.

Twitter told it had secured the negotiated accounts and was examining the situation. The verified Twitter account of Green Bay Packers was compromised by an object naming itself “OurMine”, which in the events has been connected to hacking of Netflix and Sony Music’s Twitter accounts.

Super Bowl, the largest televised competition of the year in America for which close to 100 million US watchers attune in, is set for February 2 in Miami where the Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers will face against each other.
