Huawei P40 Series Tipped to Include Porsche Edition or Max Variant

0

Huawei P40 series is reported to include three flagship phones this time. The company is reportedly going to launch the Huawei P40 and Huawei P40 Pro as expected, as well as an additional more premium Huawei P40 Pro Porsche Edition or a Huawei P40 Pro Max variant. The newly leaked variant is not to be confused with Huawei P40 Lite that has been leaked in the past on several occasions. The Huawei P40 Lite is said to be a part of the P40-series, but it isn’t a flagship model. If the fresh rumor is any indication, the Huawei P40 Pro Porsche Edition or a Huawei P40 Pro Max will arrive as the third flagship phone in the company’s P40 lineup. The new Huawei P40 series is set to debut in March this year.

Tipster @RODENT950 on Twitter has claimed that there will be three models of the Huawei P40 series. When someone asked if he is talking about the Huawei P40, Huawei P40 Pro, and Huawei P40 Lite, he rectified that he meant three flagship models. The tipster then goes on to claim that there might be a third more premium Huawei P40 Pro Porsche Edition or a Huawei P40 Pro Max variant in the offing. He also hints that the camera design of the base model may be more like the Huawei P30 Pro, and the new rectangular camera design leaked in renders will be exclusive to the new third model only.

Apart from this, there’s little else that the tipster indicates about this new third flagship model. While he says that there will be three flagship models this time around, he doesn’t explicitly indicate that there won’t be any Huawei P40 Lite. We should get more clarity on the number of phone launches as the launch date nears.

If the tipster is to be believed, the Huawei P40 Pro Max or the Porsche Edition will come with five rear cameras at the back, and two up front as shown in past renders. The five rear cameras are expected to be integrated into a rectangular-shaped module situated on the upper-left corner of the back panel. Upfront, the phone is expected to sport a hole-punch display with a pill-shaped cut out for the two selfie cameras.

Watch James Pattinson’s Bizarre Dismissal In Sydney Test

0

Australia took control of the third and final Test against New Zealand in Sydney by amassing a score of 454 in the first innings. Marnus Labuschagne hit his maiden double Test century as the New Zealand bowlers were made to toil on the second day of the Sydney Test. However, it didn’t all go Australia’s way with James Pattinson‘s dismissal a testament to that. As he has done throughout the series, Neil Wagner dug one in short with Pattinson trying to take cover but the ball didn’t bounce as much and the Australian cricketer got into a bit of tangle. The ball struck Pattinson on the shoulder then bounced off his glove and onto the back of his bat before disturbing the stumps.

Here is the one of the strangest dismissals you will ever see:

https://twitter.com/cricketcomau/status/1213313559368593408?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1213313559368593408&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsports.ndtv.com%2Fcricket%2Faustralia-vs-new-zealand-james-pattinson-dismissed-in-bizarre-fashion-in-sydney-test-watch-video-2158667

In reply to Australia’s 454 all out, New Zealand ended Day 2 on 63 for no loss, trailing at stumps by 391 runs. Tom Latham (26 not out) and Tom Blundell (34 not out) were the two unbeaten batsmen for the visitors.

The day, however, belonged to Marnus Labuschagne. The 25-year-old reached his highest Test score of 215 as the Australians were dismissed just before tea on the second day. The right-hander was made to sweat on 199 for 20 minutes before he thick-edged Colin de Grandhomme through the vacant slips to the ropes to bring up his double ton.

Tim Cook Sees Pay Decrease Due to Apple Performance

0

Apple chief Tim Cook saw his annual payslip to $11.6 million (roughly Rs. 83.24 crores) in 2019 after the company registered a weaker financial performance compared with the previous year, according to documents filed Friday.

Cook, who took home $15.7 million (roughly Rs. 112.66 crores) in 2018, is paid a base salary of $3 million, in addition to a bonus and various compensations. His 2019 incentive bonus, which is tied to Apple’s performance, tallied about $7.7 million (roughly Rs. 55.25 crores) and was calculated based on the fact that Apple exceeded its sales target by only 28 percent.

That compared with $12 million (roughly Rs. 86.11 crores) in 2018, based on the company exceeding its sales target by 100 percent, the filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission said.

Cook’s 2019 pay was also reported to include another $885,000 (roughly Rs. 635.08 lakhs) worth of benefits, most of which were for security and use of a private jet.

Apart from his salary, Cook also saw more than $113 million (roughly Rs. 810 crores) worth of Apple shares become vested as part of his long-term compensation as head of the firm, according to the filing.

Apple reported net sales of $260.2 billion (roughly Rs. 18,67,221 crores) and operating income of $63.9 billion (roughly Rs. 4,58,552 crores) for 2019, it said in the filing.

Hyderabad: Bio-diversity flyover revived with few safety rules

0

The Bio-diversity flyover has been reopened for the traffic today by Mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan, Cyberabad CP Sajjanar and other engineering officials. The flyover has been closed on November 23 after a ghastly mishap that took the life of a woman when an overspeeding car fell down from the flyover.

The expert committee which has been appointed to check the construction and design of the flyover visited the area on Friday along with the engineering officials of GHMC and inspected the security measures. Satisfied over the measures taken up to curb the accidents, the officials have decided to open the flyover. However, the officials are planning to close the flyover during nights.

View cutters at the sharp ends, boards showing to maintain speed limit fo 40 KMPH, rubber rumble strips have been arranged on the flyover. The flyover was opened on November 4 by the minister KT Rama Rao. Five days after the launch, two youngsters were killed after being hit by a car on the flyover.

Later on November 23, a car fell down from the flyover and landed before a car showroom. A woman who was waiting at the bus stop near the showroom suffered serious injuries and died on the spot.

Post-CAA, Move To Deport Rohingya is on cards, States Jitendra Singh

0

Union Minister Jitendra Singh said Rohingya refugees settled in Jammu in a large number, would eventually face deportation now that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) has been enacted by parliament. He remarked that there is a sizeable Rohingya population in Jammu and that a detailed list would be prepared. Thereafter, Singh suggested that a due process is likely to be put in place for their eventual deportation to Myanmar, according to media reports.

The Centre would also probe how Rohingya refugees came all the way from West Bengal to settle down in Jammu in the northernmost state of the country, after passing through several states, the minister observed. Jammu and Samba region are reported to have more than 13,000 refugees comprising Rohingyas and Bangladeshi nationals.

Jitendra Singh added that Rohingyas who had settled in Jammu will be deported as they do not belong to the three countries listed—Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Moreover, they do not belong to any of the six persecuted minorities listed in the CAA.

The Union Minister further said the CAA is applicable across the country and that the Act does not give any concession or leverage to Rohingyas. The minister implied that Rohingyas would not be eligible for citizenship under the new law. Jitendra Singh stated that what would happen next would be in relation to the deportation of Rohingyas and that biometric identity cards would be given where needed.

The Union minister’s statement assumes significance in view of the fact that Rohingya refugees are currently settled in various parts of the country.

AUS Vs NZ: New Zealand Start firmly after Labuschagne’s Double

0

Marnus Labuschagne headlined the second day of the Sydney Test with a spectacular maiden Test double century. New Zealand’s openers, however, staged a resolute fightback to keep Australia at bay, going to stumps unbeaten with 63 on the board, trailing Australia’s 454 by 391 on Saturday (January 4).

The Australian pacers and Nathan Lyon created half-chances, but Australia couldn’t breach their defenses. Australian pacers’ probing lines upfront forced a quiet start from Tom Blundell and Tom Latham. Blundell took 21 deliveries to get off the mark, failing to rotate the strike as much as he would’ve liked, while Latham kept the scoreboard ticking. The left-handed opener left most deliveries outside off but poked his bat at one uncertainly as Australia thought they got an edge.

Aleem Dar thought otherwise, and Australia lost their review when the third umpire didn’t find enough evidence to overturn the decision. Lyon didn’t get much bounce and was negotiated without the batsmen trying anything fancy. They were content playing straight and seeing through the allotted overs for the day. It turned out to be a wicketless final session with Blundell unbeaten on 34, while Latham was not out on 26.

New Zealand revived themselves in the middle session with a clump of wickets as Australia batted themselves into a strong position on the back of Labuschagne’s knock. While the bulk of his runs came on the on-side on the opening day of the Test, once New Zealand’s bowlers changed their lines to him, he switched to the offside with runs coming all over the park. Tim Paine and Labuschagne added 79 runs together before New Zealand struck back with quick wickets on a pitch that was beginning to play tricks as Australia lost 7 for 171. Labuschagne belted 19 fours and a six in his innings.

Paine was undone by a peach from Colin de Grandhomme that nipped back just a little to knock over the Australian captain’s stumps. Labuschagne fell a couple of overs later handing a return catch to Todd Astle to the leg-break that was tossed up. The batsman committed to the shot too early and ended up lobbing it back to the bowler. J

James Pattinson, in bizarre fashion, had the ball drop onto his stumps after it hit him on the shoulder, bounced off his gloves and onto the stumps. Pat Cummins perished to an attempted flick that short leg pouched. Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Starc added 24 crucial runs for the final wicket and took Australia past the 450- run mark. Wagner picked his third wicket when he castled Starc, while de Grandhomme too finished with as many.

New Zealand wasted their only remaining review against Paine earlier, who they thought they had trapped leg before, only to find there was only bat involved. However, they managed to get Travis Head and Matthew Wade. Somerville struck in the first over of play, sending back Wade, who had counterattacked with a quickfire cameo on the opening day, with the bowler breaching the batsman’s defenses to pick up his maiden Test wicket at the SCG.

They were further dealt another setback with confirmation for Matt Henry’s broken thumb. Henry who had been struck by a drive from Joe Burns in the opening session of the Test, left the field for treatment before returning to bowl. Henry is the third New Zealand pace bowler to be injured on their tour of Australia after Lockie Ferguson and Trent Boult, who suffered a calf strain and a broken hand respectively. Yet, he bowled six overs in the morning session and got Head for 10, out of a top-edge to the wicketkeeper.

Brief scores: Australia 454 (David Warner 45, Marnus Labuschagne 215, Steve Smith 65; Colin de Grandhomme 3-78, Neil Wagner 3-66, Todd Astle 2-111) lead New Zealand 63/0 (Tom Blundell 34*, Tom Latham 26*) by 391 runs.

Earlier on Saturday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had shared a picture and a video of Jasprit Bumrah practicing in the nets before India’s first match of the year at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.

https://twitter.com/BCCI/status/1213074453820661760?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1213074453820661760&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsports.ndtv.com%2Findia-vs-sri-lanka-2019-20%2Fjasprit-bumrah-back-in-comfort-zone-ahead-of-sri-lanka-t20is-2158574

“And…He’s BACK. @Jaspritbumrah93 all set for a session at the nets,” the BCCI captioned the picture of Bumrah in action with bowling coach Bharat Arun.

The BCCI followed it up with a video of Bumrah, striking the stumps with fierce bowling. “Missed this sight anyone? How’s that from @Jaspritbumrah93 #TeamIndia #INDvSL,” the BCCI captioned the video on Twitter.

https://twitter.com/BCCI/status/1213085613542576129?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1213085613542576129&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsports.ndtv.com%2Findia-vs-sri-lanka-2019-20%2Fjasprit-bumrah-back-in-comfort-zone-ahead-of-sri-lanka-t20is-2158574

Bumrah has been out since the start of the home series against South Africa in October 2019, due to a stress fracture but has made a steady recovery.

Calling 2019 a year full of “accomplishments”, Bumrah had tweeted: “2019 has been a year of accomplishments, learning, hard work and making memories, on the field and off it too.”

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite With 48-Megapixel Triple Rear Camera Setup

0

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite is official. Just a few days before CES 2020 kicks off, Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S10 Lite, a slightly diluted version of the standard Galaxy S10 that will fit in a lower price bracket. The Galaxy S10 Lite features a triple rear camera setup with a main 48-megapixel sensor. The primary camera is supported by Samsung’s in-house Super Steady OIS stabilization technology. The phone takes design cues from the Galaxy Note 10 Lite and features a flat Infinity-O display with a centrally-positioned hole-punch housing the front camera.

The South Korean electronics giant is yet to reveal the price of the Galaxy S10 Lite. But we can expect an announcement on January 7 when CES 2020 officially kicks off, or in the subsequent days. The Galaxy S10 Lite will come in two configurations – 6GB RAM + 128GB storage, and 8GB RAM + 128GB storage. It will hit the shelves in Prism White, Prism Black, and Prism Blue color options.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite features a 6.7-inch Full HD+ (1080 x 2400 pixels) Infinity-O Super AMOLED display with a pixel density of 394ppi. The Galaxy S10 Lite looks identical to the Galaxy Note 10 Lite from the front, thanks to the similar display profile with a centrally-positioned hole-punch, slim bezels, and rounded corners. Over at the back, the Galaxy S10 Lite packs a slightly larger camera module compared to the Galaxy Note 10 Lite, thanks to a different arrangement of the camera lenses.

The Galaxy S10 Lite draws power from a 64-bit 7nm octa-core processor that has a maximum clock speed of 2.8GHz. Samsung has not specified whether the silicon powering the phone is an Exynos SoC or a Qualcomm chipset. But as per leaks, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 SoC will tick at the heart of the Galaxy S10 Lite. The Samsung phone packs up to 8GB of RAM, but a lower-end variant with 6GB of RAM is also on the table.

Samsung Galaxy S10’s triple rear camera setup includes a 48-megapixel main shooter with an f/2.0 lens and Super Steady OIS for stabilization. Samsung says the Super Steady OIS feature works in tandem with Super Steady mode in the camera app to negate hand movements for delivering smoother and blur-free videos. It is accompanied by a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture and 123-degree field of view. There is also a 5-megapixel macro camera with an f/2.4 lens for clicking close-up photos.

Selfie camera of 32 megapixels with an f/2.2 lens. The Galaxy S10 Lite packs a 4,500mAh battery with Super Fast charging support. The phone comes equipped with an in-display fingerprint sensor for authentication, but the front camera also supports face unlock. It offers 128GB of internal storage that is expandable via a microSD card (up to 1TB).

AUS Vs NZ: Australia post 454 after Labuschagne’s maiden double ton

0

Marnus Labuschagne led Australia’s quest of getting to a big score with a double century of his own, even as New Zealand revived themselves in the middle session with a clump of wickets. The visitors bowled Australia out but they were comfortably placed having posted 454 in Sydney at Tea on Day 2.

Labuschagne took his time to get to the landmark, to patiently nudge himself to his maiden double century in Tests. While the bulk of his runs came on the on-side on the opening day of the Test, once New Zealand’s bowlers changed their lines to him he milked the offside with runs coming all over the park on Saturday (January 4). Tim Paine and Labuschagne added 79 runs together before New Zealand struck back with quick wickets on a pitch that was beginning to play tricks.

Paine was undone by a peach from Colin de Grandhomme that nipped back just a little to knock over the Australian captain’s stumps. Labuschagne fell a couple of overs later, handing a return catch to Todd Astle to the leg-break that was tossed up. The batsman committed to the shot too early and ended up lobbing it back to the bowler.

James Pattinson, in bizarre fashion, had the ball drop onto his stumps after it hit him on the shoulder, bounced off the back of his bat and onto the stumps.

Yet, he bowled six overs in the morning session and got Head for 10, eking out a top-edge to the wicketkeeper.

Brief scores: Australia 454 (Marnus Labuschagne 215, Steve Smith 65; Neil Wagner 3-66, Colin de Grandhomme 3-78) vs New Zealand.

Ranji Trophy 2020: Shubman Gill refuses to leave, stirs row

0

A few school kids made it to the PCA Stadium here on a Friday morning to watch the up and coming sensation Shubman Gill bat on the first day of Punjab’s Ranji Trophy encounter against Delhi. Instead, they saw the 20-year-old get into an awkward confrontation with the umpires.

On the fourth ball of the 10th over, Shubman Gill was given out caught behind off medium-pacer Subodh Bhati. Gill refused to walk and instead got into a heated argument with umpire Mohammed Rafi (making his debut) at the bowling end.

Rafi then consulted square-leg umpire Paschim Pathak and reversed his decision. Going by Delhi vice-captain Nitish Rana’s conversation with coach KP Bhaskar, Gill allegedly abused the umpire. “Sir, umpire ko gaali de raha hai (He is abusing the umpire.),” Rana was heard telling Bhaskar.

The incident didn’t go down well in the Delhi camp. The players were visibly agitated by Gill’s behavior. Play resumed after 12 minutes after match referee P Ranganathan intervened.

The incident playing on his mind, Gill lost his focus and edged one off Simarjeet Singh to wicketkeeper Anuj Rawat to be out for 23 with the team’s score on 60. This time he walked off with his head down. Punjab finished the day at 266/8.

“This is quite unacceptable. If someone is playing for India it doesn’t mean that he has got the right to intimidate an umpire. Showing dissent is a different thing but trying to intimidate an on-field umpire is way over the top”, Bhaskar said.

TOI has learned that match referee had a word with Shubman Gill and Delhi’s captain Dhruv Shorey after the match. The Delhi team has decided not to lodge an official complaint against Gill.

Matt Henry suffers broken thumb but will continue to bowl

0

If England’s tour of South Africa is “cursed”, consider New Zealand tour of Australia nothing less than that. After a host of injuries and illnesses in the visiting camp, it’s Matt Henry, the fast bowler, who’s now suffered a broken thumb. He will continue to bowl in the Test but bat depending on the situation of the match.

Henry suffered the fracture on Day 1 when he was trying to stop a drive from Joe Burns off his bowling. He was off the field for a while to deal with the split fingernail but the X-rays now have confirmed a broken thumb.

“An X-ray last night confirmed Matt Henry has broken his left thumb following a blow on day one,” a media release from New Zealand Cricket said.

Henry was picked over Tim Southee, only second to Neil Wagner in the series, for this Test match. Speaking after stumps on Day 1, head coach Gary Stead defended the decision to leave out Southee, arguing that they felt the need for more “pace” on this wicket.

Henry’s injury comes after Lockie Ferguson’s calf injury on the first day of this series which was tailgated by Trent Boult fracturing his hand in the second Test. Kane Williamson, Henry Nicholls, and Mitchell Santner are all missing this Test due to illness, with the latest player being laid low is Jeet Raval.

Raval was slotted in at No.3 for this Test in the absence of Williamson but should he not able to bat there, Glenn Phillips should take that place on his debut.

CAA: Centre, States, Politics And Law

0

When the Governor of Kerala Arif Mohammad Khan asserted that the resolution passed by the state assembly on Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) had no constitutional validity, he was reiterating a point made by many legal luminaries. Khan was referring to the resolution passed by the state assembly, tabled by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan which sought the withdrawal of the law describing it as unconstitutional.

Speaking to media persons on Thursday, the Kerala Governor remarked that the subject of citizenship clearly falls under the Union list. In other words, he implied that state governments have no jurisdiction over the law per se. However, in passing the resolution, the state government was essentially taking a stand on the subject, legality aside. Moreover, when it comes to implementation of the law, state government machinery comes into play and resistance from local state governments could prove to be a challenge on the ground.

The BJP criticized the Kerala chief minister with its national general secretary and Rajya Sabha member, GVLNarasimha Rao asserting that he would seek action against Vijayan for breach of parliamentary privileges. The Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad endorsed this view remarking that states have to implement CAA as it is a law enacted by Parliament.

Meanwhile, the Rajasthan State Cabinet also decided not to implement CAA and National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state. Other Congress states including Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Chhattisgarh have vowed to block the Act. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also spoken against it.

In Tamil Nadu, the DMK said that it would move a resolution in the assembly against the implementation of CAA-NRC in the state. Perhaps, in view of the growing opposition to the implementation of CAA by several state governments and its perceived linkage with NRC, Law Minister Prasad clarified that only after discussions with all stakeholders would the NRC roll-out take place.

A Centre-States stand-off on the issue could create an unprecedented constitutional crisis. Therefore, the sooner the Modi government clears the air on the issue through discussions with all stakeholders as stated by the Union Law Minister, the better.

Samsung One UI 2 Update Features Heading to Galaxy S20, Galaxy Fold 2: Report

0

While Samsung is busy preparing its next-generation flagship phones that may debut under the Galaxy S11 or Galaxy S20 series, an APK teardown from the latest One UI 2.0 update suggests some of the features that we would see in the upcoming Galaxy models. The teardown shows a list of new camera features as well as some battery-focussed developments that are likely to arrive on the successors to the Galaxy S10-series. Some of the suggested features are also speculated to be a part of the clamshell form-factor based new Samsung foldable phone.

The fresh teardown has been sourced from the One UI 2.0 update that recently started hitting the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, reports XDA Developers that has managed to decode various APK files of the latest proprietary platform.

One of the major new features that have been surfaced through the teardown is a Directors’s View. This appears to let users switch between different camera lenses, similar to how Filmic Pro works on the iPhone.

As per the strings available in one of the system APKs, the Directors View feature would let users select a subject to focus to track them while recording videos. It is likely to utilize the multi-camera setup of the Galaxy S20 to deliver an enhanced video recording experience.

The teardown has also revealed a Single Take Photo mode that would use artificial intelligence (AI) to optimize photography on the basis of scenes. This sounds similar to the Photobooth mode that debuted on the Google Pixel 3 models back in April last year to detect scenes such as kissing and smiles to capture the “best pictures possible” using AI-based algorithms.

Samsung also appears to have a new Pro Video mode in the pipeline that would let users adjust settings such as exposure, shutter speed, and ISO manually while recording videos. The South Korean company did offer a Pro Video mode in the past, but it’s not a part of the latest Samsung Galaxy phones. We can expect some significant enhancements to manual settings.

Alongside the new Pro Video mode, the teardown shows that Samsung has some new bokeh effects in the works that would be a part of the next-generation Galaxy phones. There are four new bokeh modes, namely Artify, Mono, Sidelight, and Vintage. These are likely to be a part of the Live Focus mode that was introduced with the Galaxy Note 8 and is a part of the Galaxy S10 models with effects such as Blur and Big circles.

The teardown also suggests Super Fast Charging support on the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 by showing a file titled “bloom_front_charging_effect_superfast.” The new technology would support a minimum of 25W fast charging and a maximum of 45W fast charging.

In addition to Super Fast Charging support, Samsung appears to have a battery heath feature that would be a part of the Settings menu. It could work similar to the battery heath feature available on the iPhone for some time and provide aging details of battery packs to users.

Samsung is likely to bring the newly spotted features on the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Fold 2 initially. However, since the company has a good historical record of providing the latest experience to its earlier flagships, we can expect them to reach at least the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 models soon after their arrival on the new flagships. There are also chances that some changes would take place to the features surfaced from the teardown.

AUS Vs NZ: Labuschagne, Smith put Australia in control

0

Australia continued to boss proceedings in Sydney as Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith effectively kept New Zealand at bay in the second session. They went to Tea on 182 for 2 with Labuschagne headlining the session with an unbeaten 73 on Friday (January 3).

New Zealand did well to keep Australia in check in the first hour after Lunch as Warner failed to convert his start. It was the short ball once again from Neil Wagner that undid the opener, who didn’t have any control of the pull and drags it to leg-gully, who obliged.

Steve Smith and Labuschagne thereafter patiently kept the bowlers at bay. Smith began slowly, taking 39 balls and 43 minutes for his first run, on quite a slow pitch where the pair were made to work hard for their runs. But soon enough, runs began to flow off their bats.

Labuschagne, particularly, was disciplined against the deliveries outside off, used his feet well against the spinners – who got quite a bit of turn – and negated the short balls deftly. He reached his 8th Test fifty and together with Smith, in their 87-run, association, the pair was unbeaten for the third wicket.

New Zealand were not very disciplined with the ball, barring Wagner. While left-armer kept things tight and build the pressure at one end, he didn’t find a company at the other. He conceded just 19 runs in 13 overs, while the others were taken for runs, much like in the opening session.

Matt Henry got some extra bounce first up, but he failed to bowl consistently at the stumps, much like the others, letting the Australian batsmen get a move on as the opening pair made a steady start. David Warner and Joe Burns added 39 runs until a change in ends for Colin de Grandhomme did the trick for New Zealand.

A bit of late seam movement had Burns squared up. He got the edge that was pouched by Ross Taylor at slip. Although de Grandhomme got the only wicket in the session, he leaked runs in his eight overs, conceding 39 runs. Wagner attacked the batsmen with his usual barrage of short-pitched deliveries.

He almost even got Warner off a pull that the batsman had no control over. But the top-edge fell just short of Will Somerville at fine leg, who misjudged the catch. Labuschagne and Warner thereafter joined hands to stitch a swift fifty-run stand to see the session through.

New Zealand, earlier, were forced to make as many as five changes to their XI owing to the illness that struck the visitors’ camp in the lead-up to the Test. Regular skipper Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls were in with a chance to play until the morning but were forced out eventually.

They handed Glenn Philips his maiden Test cap while recalling dropped opener Jeet Raval. Tim Southee missed out, Mitchell Santner was forced out with illness and Trent Boult’s injury meant inclusions of Matt Henry, Todd Astle, and Will Somerville, who returned to his home ground, having played several seasons for New South Wales earlier.

Brief scores: Australia 182/2 (Marnus Labuschagne 73*, David Warner 45, Steve Smith 42*; Colin de Grandhomme 1-48, Neil Wagner 1-19) vs New Zealand.

US Army Bans Soldiers From Using TikTok

0

The US Army has banned service members from using the Chinese-owned short video-making app TikTok on government-issued phones citing security concerns. The move comes amid ongoing worries that the video app could compromise national security or be used to influence or snoop on Americans. TikTok has seen nearly 1.5 billion downloads globally and the US market with 37.6 million downloads is at third sport, after India and China.

“It is considered a cyber threat,” Lt Col Robin Ochoa, a US Army spokesperson told US-based news portal Military.com. “We do not allow it on government phones.”

Last month, the US Navy and Defense Department told its members not to download the app and delete it from government-issued devices if it was already installed.

According to The Verge, Beijing-based company ByteDance has been under scrutiny from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) after lawmakers demanded an investigation to see whether the Chinese government can collect users’ data or control the content that is shared.

To recall, TikTok became the first Chinese-owned app to reach first place in the US Apple App Store last November.

Its servers are not based in China but rather in countries where the app is available.

AUS Vs NZ: Williamson doubtful for SCG Test

0

New Zealand is running short of players as they approach the third and final Test against Australia, at the Sydney Cricket Ground, set to begin on Friday (January 3), with three of their players – Kane Williamson, Henry Nicholls, and Mitchell Santner – falling ill. While the first two missed their second training sessions in a row, Santner was down with a bug on Thursday.

However, Tom Latham said he is hopeful that Williamson will be available for the Test even if there is a small chance.”[Kane] is a great leader amongst this group and he’s passionate about this group so I’m sure if there’s any chance of him playing, even if it is a small chance, he’ll certainly be playing,” Latham said on Thursday (January 2).

If the three players are unavailable for the Test, New Zealand will be left with only 12 players to choose from for the New Year’s Test. While there are ample options in the pace attack, Matt Henry should come in as a replacement for the injured Trent Boult. Jeet Raval, despite his poor form, should also return to the side to make up for the two lost batsmen, while Todd Astle and William Somerville will go uncontested if New Zealand play two spinners.

That combination, however, won’t do much good to New Zealand’s batting that has already struggled in this series, further damaging their efforts to bag a consolation win to push their case in the World Test Championship table.”We haven’t played our best brand of cricket and I know the guys are excited about getting out there over the next five days and trying to put a good performance on the board,” Latham admitted.

CAA Protests Related Violence In UP: 25 PFI Members Held

0

The UP police said that 25 people have been arrested with alleged links to the Popular Front of India (PFI), for their role in violence which marred protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act(CAA). According to UP police, PFI is another manifestation of the banned militant organization, SIMI. UP minister Mohsin Raza stated that PFI members tried to incite violence through their propaganda network and that SIMI, in any form would not be allowed to resurface in the state.

Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also stated that the Centre was keeping a close watch on the activities of PFI and its SIMI link. The UP government had sought a ban on the organization for its role behind violence which broke out in many parts of UP, including Lucknow, Meerut, Sambhal, Kanpur and Muzaffarnagar. The Yogi Adityanath government has asked the Union Home Ministry to ban PFI for its SIMI link and for its role in the violence related to protests against CAA in many parts of the state.

The UP government stated that it had conducted a probe into the violence which erupted during the protests leading to loss of lives and causing injuries to many. Meanwhile, the PFI has denied any hand in the violence which marred anti-CAA protests in UP. The organization’s general secretary, Mohd. Ali Jinnah described the UP government’s charges as ‘absurd’.
