Cold Wave Slides Up Imperceptibly In Delhi-NCR

0

Cold wave conditions sweeping across Delhi and National Capital Region(NCR)and several parts of north India, eased up slightly in the national capital, with the temperature climbing slightly on Thursday morning to 5.8° Celsius. The maximum temperature for the day is expected to cross 19° Celsius. North India has been reeling under severe cold wave conditions with minimum temperature in New Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR)plummeting to as low as 2° Celsius.

Monday marked the coldest day in 119 years in the national capital. More than 200 shelters for the homeless were filled with people unable to bear the bitingly cold conditions. Media reports put the death toll in UP alone at 28. It is believed that more people die of unbearably cold conditions in winter, as opposed to heat waves which sweep across several parts of the country in summer.

Other parts of North India have also been in the grip of cold wave conditions over the past few days with Ludhiana proving to be the coldest place in Punjab and Haryana, recording 0.3° Celsius, well below normal. Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan recorded 1.5° Celsius. Trains to and from Delhi ran late due to poor visibility, while flights also got affected.

Road traffic across most parts of northern India has been severely impacted over the last few days owing to low visibility. The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) is reported to have stated that the air-quality recorded in many parts of Delhi was in the ‘severe’ category. With insufficient sunshine, the national capital sports a bleak look.

WhatsApp for Windows Phone Will No Longer Be Officially Supported After Today

0

WhatsApp is saying goodbye to the Windows Phone world by officially ending support for the mobile platform managed by Microsoft. The Facebook-owned company has decided to withdraw support from all Windows Phone versions from today.

This means no matter which Windows Phone iteration your device has, it won’t get official support for WhatsApp starting tomorrow. The instant messaging app that has over 1.5 billion users across the globe and more than 400 million users in India alone is also set to leave its support for the devices running Android version 2.3.7 and older alongside the iPhone models running iOS 8 and older from February 1, 2020.

Despite ending support, WhatsApp will continue to work on your Windows Phone device. It is, however, important to note that you won’t receive any future updates or security fixes.

“Because we no longer actively develop for these operating systems, some features might stop functioning at any time,” WhatsApp wrote on its FAQ section defining end of support for Windows Phone versions.

Since July this year, WhatsApp has been unavailable for download through Microsoft Store. Windows 10 Mobile, which is the successor to the earlier Windows Phone versions, is also set to reach end of service from January 14, 2020. This means that the platform itself won’t receive any security updates starting early next month.

In addition to Windows Phone, WhatsApp will no longer be supported on smartphones running Android version 2.3.7 or older as well as iPhone models running iOS 8 or older from February 1, 2020. You can fairly get the idea that all this will cover millions of devices globally.

Notably, users on Android version 2.3.7 and older as well as iOS 8 and older are already being restricted from creating new WhatsApp accounts or re-verifying their existing accounts.

Realme 5i Set to Launch on January 6, Phone to be launched in Vietnam

0

Realme has confirmed that it will officially launch the Realme 5i phone on January 6. Interestingly, the phone will be launched in Vietnam first, but there is no word when it will arrive in other markets, including India. Additionally, the phone has already been listed for registration on an e-commerce platform ahead of its official launch, revealing its alleged price and key specifications in the process. It appears that Realme 5i will debut a/rea a slightly toned-down version of the Realme 5, but it will come in two new color options with a different design on the rear panel.

The official Realme Vietnam Facebook page has shared a poster, revealing that the Realme 5i will be launched in the country on January 5. Prior to the launch though, the Realme 5i has been listed on a Vietnamese e-commerce site, FPTShop, where the phone is currently up for registration priced at VND 4,290,000 (roughly Rs. 13,000).

The accompanying images show the phone itself in green and blue colors flaunting a subtle gradient finish on the rear panel. The rear panel’s design on the Realme 5i is a stark difference from the company’s signature diamond-cut design seen on the Realme 5 and Realme 5s. The specifications of Realme 5i listed on the website suggest that it will be a watered-down version of the Realme 5.

Realme 5i specifications:

Talking about specifications, the listing page says that the Realme 5i will feature a 6.52-inch HD+ (720 x 1600 pixels) display with a waterdrop notch. It will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, although variants with a different memory configuration might be launched as well.

The phone will come equipped with a 12-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera, a 2-megapixel depth sensor, and a 2-megapixel macro shooter. On the front is an 8-megapixel selfie snapper. The Realme 5i will come equipped with a 5,000mAh battery and will run Android Pie with ColorOS 6.0.1 on top.

To celebrate Christmas, Google introduced three doodles every day starting December 23, ringing in the festivities. The Christmas doodles had lights and decorations that you often find on the Christmas tree, a snow globe that has Santa’s sleigh flying around the tree, and candles lit up in the church to commemorate the birth of Jesus.

Just a few days ago, Google also celebrated Bangladeshi painter, educator, and activist Zainul Abedin’s105th birthday with a Google Doodle. If you wish to look at all the Google Doodles made by the tech giant, head to Google’s dedicated doodle page where you can find them all.

Rohit Sharma Sends Birthday Message For Daughter Samaira

0

Rohit Sharma is a changed man ever since the birth of his daughter Samaira. Rohit Sharma admitted that his daughter has brought excitement, laughter and bliss to his life. On Monday, Rohit Sharma took to Twitter to post a special message for his daughter along with some pictures from her birthday celebration. “Happy happy birthday to my little Cookie Monster. Your arrival has brought nothing but excitement, laughter and bliss to our lives. Here’s to more midnight dancing, rapping and showing you the world. @ritssajdeh,” Rohit Sharma tweeted.

Rohit Sharma, 32, makes it a point to spend quality time with his daughter when he is away from cricketing action. He has also made it a point to post pictures with her on his Twitter and Instagram profiles.

Last year, Rohit Sharma had missed the Sydney Test against Australia as he went home to attend his wife Ritika Sajdeh.

On the work front, Rohit Sharma will return to national duty for the One-day International (ODI) series against Australia next month. He has been rested for the Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Sri Lanka, starting from January 5, 2020.

In 2019, Rohit Sharma pipped Virat Kohli to finish as the highest ODI run-scorer. He accumulated 2,442 runs across formats this year. In the process, the Mumbai batsman had surpassed Sri Lanka great Sanath Jayasuriya’s 22-year-old record for most runs as an opener in a calendar year across formats. He scored 10 hundreds across formats, including five in the World Cup this year.

Pieter Malan set for controversial debut against England

0

Pieter Malan is set to make his debut for South Africa in the second men’s Test against England at Newlands on Friday (January 3) – a decision that would likely polarise opinion across race lines.

Malan is in the squad as a specialist opener, and would seem to be a shoe-in what with Aiden Markram ruled out of the rest of the four-match series after fracturing a finger in the field during the first Test at Centurion.

But Malan is white, and South Africa’s racial selection policy says six black players – two of them black African – should be included in the XI. There were only four blacks in action at Centurion, and just one of them was black African.

No doubt injuries were a contributing factor in the numbers not adding up, particularly in the case of Temba Bavuma, the black batter who missed the first Test with an injured hip flexor but should be fit in time to play in Cape Town. Bavuma has gone 12 innings without reaching a half-century, though he has batted grittily and contributed important chunks of runs in that time. His white replacement at No. 5 at Centurion, Rassie van der Dussen, took his chance and scored 51 in the second innings.

“It will be tough to leave a guy like Rassie out,” coach Mark Boucher said on Sunday after his team had won by 107 runs with four sessions to spare.

A way to include Bavuma, and thus improve the race equation, would be to give him back his place and promote Van der Dussen to an opening berth, a role he has often filled at first-class level.

But Boucher suggested strongly on Sunday that Malan would crack the nod: “Pieter Malan was selected in the squad. For us to go messing around with the opening position wouldn’t be clever. He has done a lot of good work over a long period of time. It’s his home ground. At the moment, we’re leaning towards a straight swap of opening batsmen.”

Malan, 30, has scored 199 runs at an average of 33.16 in six innings for the Cobras this season. In his 245 innings overall, he averages 45.16 and has made 32 centuries.

But Bavuma, whose disciplined, technically sound batting has earned him respect but not enough runs, would not be discarded.

Sunday’s result was South Africa’s first Test win in the wake of five losses suffered since February. They also lost five of their eight completed games at the World Cup.

Boucher hoped his team had turned a corner: “There’s a sense of belief that we can win Test matches against very good teams. We’ll enjoy this win.”

Boucher’s playing career, which comprised 147 Tests, 295 one-day internationals and 25 T20s, was ended by an eye injury in Taunton in July 2012. The Centurion Test was his first as South Africa’s coach.

“The passion is still there,” he said of his return to the dressing room.

Huawei Mate Xs Receives 3C Certification, 65W Fast Charging Support

0

Huawei recently confirmed that it will launch an updated version of the Mate X foldable phone – called the Huawei Mate Xs – in the first quarter of 2020. Now, the Huawei Mate Xs has reportedly received the mandatory 3C certification in China, which indicates that it will be unveiled soon. The Mate Xs is said to improve upon the Huawei Mate X by offering a faster processor, a refined hinge mechanism, and an overall more durable and resilient build, but the design will remain more or less the same as its predecessor.

ITHome reports that a Huawei phone carrying the model number TAH-AN00m tipped to be the Huawei Mate Xs, has been certified by 3C in China. The phone’s certification listing mentions that it will support 65W fast charging, putting it in the same league as Oppo’s proprietary 65W charging technology that we recently saw on the Oppo Reno 3C, and will also see something similar on Xiaomi phones next year.

The Huawei Mate Xs has been confirmed to pack the in-house Kirin 990 SoC that comes with an integrated 5G modem with dual-mode 5G (SA + NSA) connectivity support. On the other hand, the Huawei Mate X came equipped with the Kirin 980 SoC with a separate Balong 5000 modem to allow 5G connectivity.

In addition to a faster processor, the Huawei Mate Xs is also said to bring some design changes compared to its predecessor, such as a more efficient hinge mechanism. Moreover, it will feature a more durable display technology compared to the Huawei Mate X. The design changes won’t be major on the surface, but the Huawei Mate Xs will be a much faster phone on the inside and will possibly employ the HMS core without Google’s suite of apps installed on the phone.

Realme’s Fast Charging Technology to be named as Dart, SuperDart

0

Realme has reportedly trademarked Dart and SuperDart names for its fast charging technology. While Realme now recognizes itself as an independent company, it still uses Oppo’s ColorOS 7 and VOOC fast charging technology. The company has already confirmed that it is working on its own software, and now it’s believed to be developing its own fast charging technology as well. This could be similar to what OnePlus does currently, wherein it uses Oppo’s VOOC Flash Charge technology, but calls it with different names like Warp Charge or Dash Charge.

Tipsters like Mukul Sharma and Sudhanshu Ambhore have shared the screenshots of trademark applications from Realme. The terms ‘Dart’ and ‘SuperDart’ have been filed for trademark hinting at the name for Realme’s future fast-charge technology. There’s little detail about this fast charging technology, apart from what it’s going to be called. The company should reveal more when it’s ready to launch the technology. For now, Realme uses Oppo’s VOOC Flash Charge technology on its phones, and the Realme X2 Pro currently comes with support for SuperVOOC flash charge tech with 50W fast charging that claims to fully charge the phone’s battery in 35 minutes.

Even the upcoming Realme X50 5G will come with support for enhanced VOOC 4.0 Flash Charge technology. Realme has teased that it would take 30 minutes to get the phone 70 percent charged. This means that you can safely expect that the phone would be 100 percent charged in less than an hour. We aren’t sure whether Realme looks to rebrand Oppo’s existing VOOC Flash Charge technology just like OnePlus licenses it or introduce an entirely new proprietary charging technology altogether.

The Indian Navy has banned the use of smartphones at naval bases, dockyards and on-board ships. Naval authorities have also banned the use of the social media giant, Facebook on board ships. The Navy took the strict step after seven personnel of the Indian Navy were caught leaking sensitive information to enemy intelligence agencies using social media.
