Justice Loses its Character if it Becomes Revenge, Says CJI SA Bobde

0

Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde, who took oath as the 47th Chief Justice of India last month, Saturday said that justice should not be misunderstood as revenge. His statement came a day after all four accused in the rape and murder of a young Hyderabad veterinarian were shot dead in a pre-dawn encounter.

“Justice should not be revenge. I believe Justice loses its character as Justice if it becomes revenge,” he said.

He said recent events in the country had sparked off an old debate with new vigor, where there was no doubt that the criminal justice system must reconsider its position and attitude towards the time it took to dispose of a criminal matter.

“Justice is never ought to be instant. Justice must never take the form of revenge. I believe justice loses its character when it becomes revenge. There is a need in the judiciary to invoke self-correcting measures but whether or not they should be publicized is a matter of debate,” he said.

“We have to devise methods for not only speeding up litigation but all together preventing it. Some laws provide for pre-litigation mediation,” he said, adding that there was a need to consider compulsory pre-litigation mediation.

Describing last year’s press conference by four senior-most judges of the apex court as a self-corrective measure, Bobde said, “I believe the institution (judiciary) must correct itself and indeed it did when the much-criticized press conference was held. It was nothing more than a self-corrective measure and I do not wish to justify it.”

Cyberabad police on Friday said the accused, lorry workers aged between 20 and 26, were killed during an exchange of fire that took place between 5.45 am and 6.15 am when they were taken by a 10-member team to the scene of the crime at Chattanpalli, 50 km near Hyderabad, from an undisclosed location for a reconstruction of events as part of the investigation.

Prime accused Mohammed Arif(26), Chennakeshavulu, Jollu Shiva and Jollu Navin(all 20 years) were not handcuffed at the time of the incident, police said.

CV Sajjanar assured reporters his fellows resorted to “retaliatory” firing after two of the arrested started a fire at the police group after snatching weapons from them and tried to escape.

He said Arif was the first to open fire followed by Chennakeshavulu, even as the police team was attacked with stones and sticks.

0

A villager was killed and two others were injured after police opened fire to control mob pelting stones on security forces at a polling booth in Jharkhand’s Sisai assembly segment on Saturday.

Eight others, including the officer-in-charge of Sisai police station, two constables and a journalist, were also injured in the stone-pelting incident.

The incident took place at booth number 36 in Badhni village under Gumla district.

“Villagers tried to snatch arms from Rapid Protection Force (RPF) deployed at the polling booth. In order to control the mob, police had to open fire in which one person died and two others received bullet injuries on thigh and shoulder. They are reportedly out of danger and have been shifted to Ranchi hospital,” Jharkhand’s chief electoral officer Vinay Choubey said.

“Voting has been stopped at the said booth. There is all probability that a re-polling on this booth will be announced,” Choubey added.

According to police, supporters of two different political parties entered into a brawl at the booth. Police personnel deployed there interfered but they picked up a fight with the forces as well.

Villagers started snatching arms from police and pelted stones on them compelling the forces to launch a crackdown in self-defense, officials said.

The villager who died was identified as Gilani Ansari and those who received bullet injuries in the police firing as Asfaq Ansari and Khoofa Ansari.

Officer-in-charge of Sisai police station Vishnu Dev Choudhary, police constables Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul, police driver Sitaram Singh, journalist Sitaram Singh and three villagers were injured in the stone-pelting.

All the injured were rushed to Gumla Sadar Hospital for treatment.

Voting for the second phase of Jharkhand Assembly Election 2019 in 20 assembly constituencies began at 7 am on Saturday.

Realme 5i Gets Wi-Fi Alliance Certification, Tipping Imminent Launch

0

Realme might soon add yet another member to the Realme 5 series after launching the Realme 5 earlier this month. A yet-to-be-announced Realme phone tipped to debut as the Realme 5i and carrying the model number RMX2030 has received the Wi-Fi Alliance certification, hinting that its launch is imminent.

Additionally, the Realme 5i has reportedly been certified by Thailand’s NBTC, India’s BIS, and Indonesia’s TKDN, confirming that the phone might be launched soon in India, as well as a couple of other Asian countries. However, no concrete information regarding the Realme 5i has surfaced online so far.

The Realme 5i’s Wi-Fi Alliance certification listing mentions the model number RMX2030 and was awarded to the Oppo spin-off on December 5. As per the Wi-Fi Alliance database, the Realme 5i will run Android Pie out-of-the-box with the firmware version RMX2030EX_11_A.08_191130. It has been certified to support Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac standard and compatibility with the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.

DroidShout has also spotted that the Realme 5i has been certified in India, Thailand, and Indonesia as well. While the phone’s Wi-Fi certification did not mention its name, the NBTC certification clearly mentions the model number RMX2030 and the model name as Realm 5i. The RMX2030 model number has been spotted in the phone’s TKDN certification document as well. Lastly, the phone’s mandatory BIS clearance suggests that it will be launched soon in India, possibly before any other market.

The Realme 5i, as the name clearly suggests, will be another addition to the bread-and-butter Realme 5 series, and might be marketed as a more affordable version of the Realme 5. Realme did something similar with the Realme 3 series as well when it launched the Realme 3i, a toned-down version of the Realme 3, which went official in July earlier this year. Unfortunately, this is the first time the Realme 5i has emerged online, so we are yet to come across any leaks or official teasers from the company itself.

Sheffield Shield: Opening day at MCG called off due to dangerous pitch

0

The opening day of the Sheffield Shield game between Victoria and Western Australia at the MCG was abandoned due to umpires having concerns over the pitch conditions.

Western Australia was 89 for 3 in the 40th over when the on-field umpires – Phillip Gillespie and Goeff Johsua – decided to take the call of suspending the day’s play indefinitely after engaging in long discussions with the two captains, Peter Handscomb and Shaun Marsh, and curator Matt Page.

Another inspection was conducted in the afternoon with the umpires opting to call off the day’s play. An inspection is also scheduled to take place on Sunday, with play set to commence 30 minutes early at 10:00 am AEDT.

A slew of deliveries climbed awkwardly during the course of day’s play and hit WA’s batsmen. The umpires decided to halt play after yet another delivery reared up from a length to clonk Marcus Stoinis on the ribs. If in case, the game gets abandoned and there isn’t any chance of rescheduling it, the points would be split between the two teams.

“We’re very disappointed at today’s play being abandoned in the Marsh Sheffield Shield match between Victoria and Western Australia,” Peter Roach, CA’s Head of Cricket Operations, said. “But we also acknowledge that there have been two previous Shield matches at the MCG this season without incident.

“The safety of our players is always our highest priority. The decision to suspend play and roll the wicket in an effort to address the variable bounce was the correct one and I applaud umpires Gillespie and Joshua for the decisive action taken,” he added.

However, Roach noted that the Boxing Day Test between Australia and New Zealand, scheduled to take place on December 26, will be played on a different strip. “Matt Page and the MCG groundstaff have more than two weeks to ensure the Test surface, which is a different pitch strip to the one being used in this match, is of international standard.

In the recent past, the drop-in pitch at MCG has also come under scrutiny for not assisting the fast bowlers.

Pakistan’s pride hurt after loss in Australia – Captain Azhar Ali

0

Pakistan’s drubbing in Australia has left Azhar Ali hurt but the captain believes the experience will help his young bowling unit fare better in the future. They lost the three-match T20I series 0-2 and then suffered heavy defeats – by an innings and five runs and by an innings and 48 runs – in the two Tests in Brisbane and Adelaide.

Pakistan’s pace attack in the first Test included 16-year-old Naseem Shah before he was replaced by 19-year-old Musa Khan in the second Test. In the first game, Pakistan decided to go in without Mohammad Abbas and when he did return in the second Test, it made little difference. “We are a proud cricketing nation and our pride has been hurt,” Azhar said on Friday (December 6).

“We did prepare to our best of our abilities, we went there with positive intent but unfortunately sometimes results don’t come as per your expectations.

“When you play in Australia and don’t avail of your opportunities, it’s never easy to make a comeback. The bowling attack was young and couldn’t perform as expected, but still, the world is talking about them today. They have pace and with little bit more experience they will be great for Pakistan in the future.”

Azhar had scored of 35, 5, 9 and 9 in the four innings and the lack of runs only hurt the side more. He acknowledged he needs runs to justify he spot in the side.

“It’s true that after a knee injury my form is not the same, but I passed all the fitness test, I do all the sprinting and it’s not the only reason (injury),” he pointed out. “Lots of players go through surgeries and play and if there’s a fitness issue, the PCB staff do tell it. I realize I do have to score, I am working hard, I am feeling good in nets, unfortunately, runs are not coming but I know when runs do come it will be in bulk.

“As far as I am concerned, it’s not that ball is not coming onto my bat or when I am at the crease my footwork is not working. Unfortunately, it’s not working. I know I need runs whether captain or any other player nobody can play without performing.”

Azhar’s next assignment is the two-match series against Sri Lanka as Test cricket will return to Pakistan after a gap of ten years. “The next series is against Sri Lanka which is a momentous occasion for all of us, all players will be playing their first test match in Pakistan,” he said. “Sri Lanka is bringing their full-strength side and we have to play very good cricket to beat them.

“We will try our best and whatever time we have in between we have to freshen up our minds and look forward to playing good cricket and get back on track. It is very important for us and we have to play this series very good.”

The first Test will be played in Rawalpindi from December 11 with the second one in Karachi from December 19.

Fans Troll Abdul Razzaq For Calling Jasprit Bumrah “Baby Bowler”

0

Abdul Razzaq was brutally trolled on social media for his comments on premier India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Former Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, in an interview with cricketpakistan.com.pk, had said that he had faced great bowlers like Glenn Mcgrath and Wasim Akram, so Jasprit Bumrah is a baby bowler for him.

Fans, especially from India, did not waste time to remind Adul Razzaq of his batting average in Tests and One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against former Australia fast bowler Glenn McGrath. While some also reminded Abdul Razzaq of his dismissal to Munaf Patel during the 2011 World Cup Cup.

Samsung Galaxy S11 cases show crazy big cutout for rear cameras

0

Leaked renders have made it clear that the Galaxy S11 will have a rather huge housing on the back for the camera sensors. And that’s not surprising, as you would need plenty of space when you want to put up to five rear camera sensors on your device.

The Galaxy S11 will also bring about an end to a signature Samsung design by shifting the rear camera setup to the corner, and supporting these rumors and leaks are pictures of what are alleged cases for the Galaxy S11e, Galaxy S11, and Galaxy S11+.

Samsung Galaxy S11 cases show crazy big cutout for rear cameras

As seen in the pictures, the size of the camera cutout will vary on each Galaxy S11 model, with the S11e having the smallest cut out because it’s expected to have only three rear cameras. The cutout on the Galaxy S11+, meanwhile, extends horizontally past the middle of the case. That’s because the Galaxy S11+’s five cameras are placed in an X pattern instead of being vertically positioned one after the other like the cameras on the Galaxy Note 10.

Of course, what will matter at the end of the day is not how the cameras are positioned but how they perform. And there’s plenty to get excited about on that front. The Galaxy S11 is expected to come with a 5x zoom camera and a 108MP primary rear camera, along with software features such as 8K video recording and something called Space Zoom. Only time will tell how the imaging experience on the Galaxy S11 will turn out to be, but all the rumors up to this point paint a pretty rosy picture.
