“Link to Windows” feature in Galaxy Note 10

Galaxy Note 10 has added an interesting link” feature and thus becomes a popular smartphone and does sell well. Samsung and Microsoft have been contributing well.
If a person has been watching Samsung’s Unpacked event last week, the person may have got surprised to see Microsoft being a big focus. CEO Satya Nadella had spoken on the occasion and Samsung highlighted a few Microsoft integrations for the Galaxy Note 10. One of those features highlighted is a “Link to Windows” Quick Settings shortcut. It is already operational on older Samsung phones too.

The “Link to Windows” tile works in conjunction with the Microsoft Your Phone app. Tapping the shortcut quickly does activate a connection to one’s PC. Users on Reddit did discover that single APK from the Galaxy Note 10 can indeed bring the feature to older Samsung phones. They need to side-load the APK.

The Galaxy Note 10’s “Link to Windows” feature works on older Samsung phones

Up-till now the APK has been working for users with the Galaxy S10 series, Galaxy Note 9, and others. One’s Samsung phone will indeed need to be running One UI (Android Pie). A person will also require the Your Phone app from the Play Store. It is only a matter of side-loading the “Link to Windows service” APK, going into the Quick Settings edit menu, and dragging the “Link to Windows” tile wherever one wants. Tapping the tile the initially to start with and one can ask for permission and then set it up. Galaxy Note 10 has also become popular in this context.

“Link to Windows” feature in Galaxy Note 10

Samsung and Microsoft have announced an expansion of their strategic partnership at the Unpacked event last week. As part of the deal, Samsung will be preloading or continue to preload much depending on the market scene some of the Microsoft apps on its Galaxy devices. Beginning with the Galaxy Note 10, the list of preloaded apps will include Link to Windows as well, which happens to be Microsoft’s Your Phone Companion app under a different name.

From what we have seen so far, the Link to Windows feature on the Galaxy Note 10 is a glorified shortcut that does hide the Your Phone app icon and does offer a toggle in the Quick Settings panel to connect to one’s PC instantly. Currently, the app does not seem to offer any extra features on the Note 10, but that could change in the future on account of the partnership between Samsung and Microsoft.

It is possible to set up a Windows PC through the Your Phone app.

The Microsoft Your Phone app has indeed been around for some time but not offered some essential functionality. However, the app was rather updated in July to add the ability for connected Android users to see their texts, notifications and social media alerts on the PC.

Amazon Alexa is getting better faster

Amazon Alexa is indeed doing well as a leading smartphone and is operating faster. It is competing well with other smartphones operating in the field.

It is interesting to know that all of the three of the leading smartphone-based digital assistants are indeed getting better at accurately answering questions. This is revealed by a new study by Loup Ventures.  It has also been observed that Amazon Alexa is getting better faster.

Google Assistant does of course still take the lead over Apple’s Siri, followed by Amazon’s Alexa.

But Siri outperformed Google Assistant as it correctly responded to the commands, say the study’s authors. Amazon Alexa is getting better faster indeed.

All three of the leading digital assistants are of course getting better at responding to human questions, but one still does hold the top spot.

For the second year in a row, Loup Ventures did find that Google Assistant did answer more questions correctly as compared to Apple’s Siri or Amazon’s Alexa in its annual IQ test. The study tested smartphone-based digital assistants by asking each the same 800 questions about finding nearby places, ordering goods, navigating as well as more. The study does evaluate whether the assistants correctly understood the question and the accuracy of their responses. It has been observed that Amazon Alexa is getting better faster.

Google Assistant did correctly answer 93% of the questions and understood all 800, according to Loup Ventures. Siri came in second, answering 83% correctly and also misunderstanding two questions. Alexa answered 80% correctly but only misunderstood one, according to the study.

Amazon Alexa is getting better faster

The ranking did remain consistent with that of last year’s study, but all three assistants did show improvement in their scores, Loup Ventures said. In July 2018, Google Assistant did answer 86% of questions correctly while Siri answered 79% correctly. Alexa made the biggest jump from year to year, thus improving nearly 19 percentage points from an accuracy score of just 61% in 2018.

Many of the same trends do continue; Google rather outperforms in information-related questions, does handle commands best, and the ranking of utility based on the number of questions’ answer have remained the same. This year, Siri outperformed Google Assistant in the command category. Both outperformed Amazon’s Alexa.

While one does expect Alexa to be best at questions about ordering goods, Google Assistant had the widest lead in the commerce category.

Apple does cancel Siri’s grading program that did pry on private conversations. Quality control does frequently come across recordings which should not have existed to start with.

Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri, and Google Assistant are all rather getting better at understanding and answering questions.

Cortana although being removed and the isolation of assistants, the smartphone usages have not changed the order of the rankings.

Google Assistant is indeed at the top, but now with a score of 92.9% for answering questions correctly. Siri does correctly answer 83.1% of questions, while Alexa gets 79.8% correct.

The questions are varied and pertain to various issues such as things, businesses, navigation, and information, as well as executing commands. These observations about smartphones do inform how they operate and function with each other.

Google to Integrate Password Checkup Feature

Google is making an all-out effort to integrate password checkup features into Chrome Browser and this will indeed prove to be a great impact on its operations.

Google’s Password Checkup extension for its Chrome will indeed be having two new features.

The extension from Google displays a warning to the effect that a user is signing into a site with a username or password that is rather unsafe.

Google to Integrate Password Checkup Feature

This is so in case it has been compromised in any earlier third-party data breach. Google to integrate password checkup feature does need to be taken note of.

One of the reasons why Google had come up with the Password Checkup extension is that the users still tend to recycle their passwords, even the ones that are unsafe and may have been compromised in the past.

Google to integrate password checkup features cannot be side-tracked.

The second feature to Password Checkup extension will indeed ensure more control over the data to users by letting them opt-out of the anonymous telemetry that the extension does report.

The anonymous telemetry does include the number of lookups that do surface an unsafe credential, whether an alert leads to a password.

Google does say that the given Password Checkup extension is rather designed to ensure that the company does not learn of the username or even password, in case the telemetry feature is enabled.

The second feature to Password Checkup extension will ensure more control over data provided to the users by letting them opt-out of the anonymous telemetry that the extension reports.

The anonymous telemetry does include the number of lookups that surface an unsafe credential, whether an alert leads to a password change, and the domain involved for improving site coverage notes the blog.

Google does say that the Password Checkup extension is designed to ensure that the company does not learn of the username or password, even if the telemetry feature is enabled.

The option is already live and can be seen in the advanced settings of the extension.
It has been observed that Google to Integrate Password Checkup Feature is a fact.

The leak detection feature of Password Checkup, which rather checks if a user’s password is indeed compromised and also alerts the users by a drop-down menu box, would, of course, become a default feature of Google Chrome browser instead of remaining an optional extension.

Based on the Chromium Bug Tracker reports, Google is looking to change things by integrating Password Checkup’s leak detection directly into Chrome.
While the design documents are indeed currently private, there are enough code changes available to piece together how it be working.

Earlier this year the Google, the Internet giant, did create Password Checkup which is essentially a step up from services such as “Have I Been Pawned” that do offer insight into whether or not a user’s password has ever been compromised at the time of a data breach.

For those who do not want Google checking out for password safety, they will, of course, allow disabling these Password Checkup features from the browser.

This is primarily done for the sake of enterprise customers, but the setting will in all probability also be available for others as well.
